One Piece Chapter 27, page 20: The Plot

Usopp quickly wipes his tears with his sleeve, trying to act tough: "Hey! Hi everybody!" Luffy looks at him blankly and asks, "Still alive? How can you still be alive?" Nami explains, "He was asleep the whole time," and Luffy adds, "I just woke up." Just then, Ninjin, Piiman, and Tamanegi run up to them, shouting, "Captain! We heard about the pirates! We've got to warn everyone!" Usopp freezes, remembering Kaya's tearful face and the villagers chasing him. He forces a loud, fake laugh: "Wahahaha! What pirates...? Warn everyone...?"
