The Theory-Building Method

Theorydeck uses a structured method for creating theories. The goal is not to make every theory sound convincing. The goal is to make the reasoning visible.

Core principle

Evidence Chips still carry the argument. Narrative Lens explains why the argument fits the story.

01

Start with a specific claim

A theory starts with a specific claim. From there, the creator gathers evidence, separates support from challenges, and tests the idea through Narrative Lens.

02

Pattern

What rule, setup, or repeated story behavior already exists?

03

Subversion

Where does the story break that pattern, and why does the break matter?

04

Theme

What larger idea is the theory connected to?

05

Parallel

What earlier scene, arc, character, myth, or story structure mirrors this claim?

06

Symbol

What object, gesture, image, or visual opposition gives the theory narrative weight?

07

Publish as a Theory Card

When a theory is published, it becomes a Theory Card with a summary, supporting and challenging chips, method structure, confidence score, history, and discussion. The theory can then improve as the community adds evidence, votes on chip strength, and challenges weak assumptions.
