One Piece Chapter 1.1, page 34-35: Romance Dawn (Version 1)

Gyari stomps his foot directly onto the straw hat, grinding it into the dirt with a loud crushing sound. Luffy screams in absolute agony and rage, "GYAAAAA!!! I SAID DON'T STEP ON IT!!!!". Gyari laughs mockingly, "DAMNIT!!! I REALLY HATE YOU!!! ORA ORA ORA!!!" as he continues to stomp on the hat. Luffy's face is distorted with fury as he yells, "SMASHING MY HAT WITH YOUR DIRTY FOOT!! OKAY!! GYARI, RIGHT!? I REMEMBERED! I'LL KILL YOU IN THE FUTURE!!!!". Gyari ignores him, ordering his men, "THROW HIM IN THE OCEAN! HE'S A PEST!!!".

Gyari's pirates throw the tied-up Luffy off the pier. Luffy splashes into the deep ocean. Gyari watches from the pier, muttering, "AN ANNOYING BASTARD EVEN TIL DEATH.". Luffy sinks rapidly into the dark water, unable to swim. He cries out in frustration and grief, thinking, "DAMN...!! EVEN THOUGH IT'S THE HAT I PROMISED TO RETURN...!! HE SMASHED IT!!! I WON'T FORGIVE THAT GUY!!! SMASHING MY TREASURE!!!". As he sinks, he remembers Shanks' smiling face and his promise: "COME AND RETURN IT SOME DAY. IT'S MY TREASURED HAT."
