One Piece Chapter 1, page 41-43: Romance Dawn

Desperate, Higuma throws a smoke bomb onto the ground with a loud "POOF!!". Shanks coughs in the thick smoke: "Smoke bomb!!! Luffy!!" When the smoke clears, Higuma and Luffy are gone. Shanks panics, grabbing his head: "Oh no! I let him escape! We've gotta save Luffy!!" Beckman tries to calm him down: "Calm down, captain! We'll all go out and look for him! We'll find him!!

Out on the open sea, Higuma has escaped on a small rowboat. He laughs hysterically: "Ha ha ha ha! What a brilliant escape! And nobody would ever expect a mountain bandit to hide out at sea!!" He looks down at Luffy, who is tied up: "I brought you along as a hostage... but I no longer have a use for you!" With a cruel smile, Higuma kicks Luffy off the boat into the water: "Goodbye..." Luffy splashes into the sea, struggling: "You die! Unh

Luffy thrashes in the water, unable to swim: "Jerk!! Brat... That guy is scum! And I didn't even get one punch in! Darn it!" Higuma watches him drown from the boat, laughing: "Ha ha ha ha ha!! Did you see the look on those pirates' faces? I broke a bottle over his head, and not one word of protest!! How pathetic!! Ha ha ha ha ha!! Cowards like that make me sick! I wanted to kill him!" Luffy screams back through the water: "Take that back! Take back what you said about Shanks!! He's not a coward!! Stop talking bad about Shanks!!!!
