CAPTAIN KURO'S PLAN. This chapter has 19 searchable pages. Opening and key page summaries: The title page for Chapter 26, titled "CAPTAIN KURO'S PLAN," features Monkey D. Luffy sitting in the crow's nest of their ship, looking through a pair of binoculars with a wide, curious expression. A large black crow is perched on his straw hat, and another sits on the edge of the nest. Below on the deck, Roronoa Zoro is running while Nami stands near the railing looking out at the sea. Scanlation credits and website links are visible at the bottom of the page. On the cliffside overlooking the shore, Jango and Kuro (still dressed as the butler Clahador) are talking. Jango says, "'ASSASSINATE' IS SUCH AN UGLY WORD! AH! YEAH! ACCIDENT! WE'LL CALL IT AN ACCIDENT! ISN'T THAT RIGHT CAPTAIN KURO?" Kuro turns back with a sharp glare, adjusting his glasses with the palm of his hand, and snaps, "DON'T CALL ME BY THAT NAME AGAIN! CAPTAIN KURO... I GAVE UP THAT NAME 3 YEARS AGO, YOU ARE THE CAPTAIN NOW!" Below them, hiding in the bushes, Usopp and Luffy are spying on their conversation. Usopp whispers, "I THINK I'VE HEARD THE NAME CAPTAIN KURO SOMEWHERE...." Luffy, looking confused, asks, "HEY, WHAT ARE THOSE TWO TALKING ABOUT?" Usopp replies, "YOU HEARD THEM YOURSELF, WHY ARE YOU ASKING ME?" Usopp tries to recall what he knows about Captain Kuro, thinking, "BUT I HEARD HE GOT CAUGHT BY THE MARINES THREE YEARS AGO, AND GOT EXECUTED... I THINK HE'S THE PIRATE FAMOUS FOR HIS CAREFUL PLANNING BEFORE ROBBING AND PLUNDERING..." Meanwhile, Jango continues talking to Kuro on the cliff: "YOU SAID YOU WERE GOING TO GIVE UP BEING A PIRATE, AND MADE ME THE CAPTAIN! HMM? IT SIMPLY SHOCKED ME... I STILL REMEMBER THAT DAY... BUT ACTUALLY, YOU HID IN THIS LITTLE VILLAGE, AND TOLD US TO COME HERE IN THREE YEAR'S TIME. EVERYONE THINKS THAT CAPTAIN KURO HAS BEEN EXECUTED BY THE MARINES!" Jango sits on a rock and says, "BEFORE, WHEN I WORKED FOR YOU, THERE WERE ALWAYS A LOT OF 'BENEFITS'. THAT'S THE ONLY REASON I WORKED FOR YOU! I CAN GET A GOOD SHARE THIS TIME RIGHT?" Kuro, standing with his back to Jango, replies, "YES! IF YOU SUCCEED, YOU'LL GET YOUR SHARE!" Jango smiles greedily and says, "GOOD! LEAVE THAT GIRL TO ME!" Kuro turns slightly and warns him, "YOU HAVE TO MAKE SURE IT LOOKS LIKE AN ACCIDENT! KILLING HER IS NOT ENOUGH..."

  • Kuro explains the crucial part of his plan

BEFORE YOU KILL HER, YOU HAVE TO HYPNOTIZE HER... AND MAKE HER WRITE MY NAME INTO THE WILL! 'I WILL LEAVE ALL MY WEALTH TO MY BUTLER, CLAHADOR.'! THEN YOU CAN OPENLY CLAIM HER INHERITANCE....AND KILL THE OJOUSAMA, SIMPLE AS THAT!" Jango responds, "WHEN YOU SEND THE SIGNAL, WE'LL CHARGE INTO THE VILLAGE... SHUTUP! I'M COMPLETELY READY! IT LOOKS LIKE YOU'RE NOT READY YET!" Kuro retorts, "I WONDER IF YOUR MOM ACTUALLY GAVE YOU A BRAIN! I HAVE NO RELATION TO HER FAMILY, HOW CAN THERE BE INHERITANCE FOR ME? WE CAN WORK ON IT! IT'S NO USE! THE MOST IMPORTANT PART IS...

  • Kuro continues explaining his scheme

I'VE SPENT THREE YEARS GETTING EVERYONE TO TRUST ME, AND AS SOON AS SHE WRITES THE WILL, NO ONE WILL SUSPECT ME! THIS WAY, I CAN OPENLY... CLAIM HER WEALTH!" Jango, looking skeptical, asks, "JUST FOR THIS YOU SPENT THREE YEARS BEING A BUTLER...? IF I WERE YOU, I WOULD HAVE JUST ROBBED THEM STRAIGHT ON!" Kuro replies, "IF I HAD DONE THAT, I'D STILL BE AN OUTLAW, AND THE MARINES WOULD STILL BE CHASING ME! THIS PLAN CAN GET ME TONS OF MONEY, PLUS I WON'T HAVE THE MARINES CHASING ME. I LIKE USING MY HEAD TO FIND A PEACEFUL WAY TO SETTLE THINGS! Jango bursts out laughing, "HAHAHAHA! PEACEFUL WAY TO SETTLE THINGS? YOU MEAN MURDERING HER ENTIRE FAMILY IS A PEACEFUL WAY?" Kuro replies coldly, "HEY! WHAT ENTIRE FAMILY? KAYA'S PARENTS DIED NATURALLY! THAT WAS OUTSIDE MY PLANS!" Jango waves it off, "WHATEVER, LET'S NOT ARGUE OVER THIS. ANYWAYS, YOU JUST NEED TO SEND THE SIGNAL! OUR SHIP HAS BEEN ANCHORED CLOSE BY... FOR ALMOST A WEEK! THEY CAN'T HOLD BACK ANY LONGER...." A dark silhouette of the Black Cat Pirates is shown. Below, Luffy and Usopp listen in stunned silence. Usopp is overwhelmed with terror as the truth sinks in: "HORRIBLE... I'VE HEARD A HORRIBLE PLAN... SO, FOR THREE YEARS... THEY ALREADY LUSTED AFTER KAYA'S FAMILY WEALTH! AND THAT BUTLER... NO! CAPTAIN KURO IS STILL ALIVE... AND I PUNCHED HIM BEFORE... HE'LL KILL ME FOR SURE! KAYA WILL BE KILLED TOO! THE VILLAGE WILL BE UNDER ATTACK...." He is sweating and shaking. Suddenly, Luffy stands up. Usopp panics, whispering frantically, "DONT STAND UP! THEY'LL SEE YOU! NOT GOOD... NOT GOOD AT ALL!" Later page summaries: Zoro and Nami are sitting on a wooden fence in the village when they see Usopp running past in a panic. The three young boys from Usopp's "pirate crew" are also there. One boy with a striped shirt and cap points and says, "AH! THAT'S THE CAPTAIN!" Another boy with a skull hat asks, "WASN'T LUFFY WITH HIM?" Zoro and Nami wonder if Usopp is still upset about the butler, but the third boy with spiky hair notes, "NO! HIS EXPRESSION IS DIFFERENT! SOMETHING MUST HAVE HAPPENED AT THE SHORE!" Zoro jumps down and asks, "HEY KIDS, HOW DO I GET TO THE SHORE?" The boys tell him that something big must have happened and mention that the hypnotist went that way earlier. Usopp runs through the village streets, screaming at the top of his lungs, "BAD NEWS!! BAD NEWS.....!!! PIRATES ARE COMING....!!! PIRATES ARE GOING TO ATTACK THIS VILLAGE TOMORROW MORNING! EVERYONE, EVACUATE......!" However, the villagers do not take him seriously. An angry villager holding a broom yells, "DAMN! IT'S THAT BIG FAT LIAR AGAIN!" Others chime in, "IT'S THE SECOND TIME TODAY!" "JUST IGNORE HIM, PIRATES WON'T COME!" and "HE'S BEEN DOING IT A BIT TOO MUCH LATELY!" The villagers gather around Usopp, angry and dismissive. One yells, "HEY USOPP, SHUT YOUR MOUTH! WE'LL TEACH YOU A LESSON TODAY!" Usopp pleads desperately, "NO... IT'S THE TRUTH THIS TIME!" but they reply, "YOU SAY THE SAME THING EVERYTIME! YOU'RE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OUR TRUST!" Usopp admits, "I KNOW I JOKED AROUND BEFORE! BUT THIS TIME IT'S THE TRUTH! BELIEVE ME!" A villager retorts, "IF YOU WERE AN HONEST MAN LIKE CLAHADOR, THEN MAYBE I'D BELIEVE YOU!" Usopp is left devastated as Kuro's words echo in his mind: "NO MATTER WHAT HE SAYS, NO ONE WILL EVER BELIEVE HIM!" Usopp realizes with horror that Kuro was right. On the Black Cat Pirates' ship, Kuro stands before his crew, who are cheering wildly. Kuro says, "YOU GUYS... THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HELP. WE HAVEN'T MET IN THREE YEARS. WHEN THIS PLAN IS THROUGH, WE'LL BE RICH FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES!" The crew shouts, "TOMORROW MORNING, WE'LL DESTROY THIS VILLAGE! WOO-HOO YEAH YEAH!! HAIL TO CAPTAIN KURO!" Meanwhile, inside the mansion, Kaya asks her maid, "WHERE'S CLAHADOR?" and the maid answers, "HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO THE NEXT TOWN." Down at the shore, Luffy is still fast asleep, face down in the dirt.
