One Piece Chapter 44, page 2-3: The 3 Cooks

The story begins with a grand view of the ocean-going restaurant, the Baratie, floating on the sea. A caption reads: "RESTAURANT OF THE SEAS, 'BARATIE'". Inside, Monkey D. Luffy is negotiating his chore-boy sentence with the head chef, Zeff. Luffy holds up a single finger and confidently demands to cut his service down "TO JUST 1 WEEK." Zeff, sporting his signature braided mustache and chef's hat, reacts with intense anger, shouting: "WHAT DID YOU SAY PUNK? YOU THINK YOU CAN DESTROY MY RESTAURANT WITH A CANNONBALL, LEAVE ME CRITICALLY INJURED, AND THEN MAKE IT UP BY ONLY WORKING 1 WEEK WITHOUT PAY...?

Zeff continues to yell at Luffy, declaring: "YOU'RE WORKING 1 YEAR AND THAT'S FINAL! GOT IT?" Luffy stubbornly refuses, shouting back: "NO! I WAITED 10 YEARS JUST TO FINALLY BECOME A PIRATE! I'M NOT WAITING ANOTHER YEAR!" Luffy insists, "ALRIGHT, IT'S SETTLED! I'LL WORK JUST 1 WEEK AND THEN YOU'LL FORGIVE ME!" Angered by Luffy's self-centered decision, Zeff delivers a powerful kick to Luffy's face, yelling: "JUST WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT TO DECIDE!? TAKE THIS, HEAD CHEF'S KICK OF JUSTICE!!!" Luffy is sent flying, crying out "OFU!" Zeff stands over him, pointing a finger and saying, "I'M THE ONE WHO'LL DECIDE WHETHER I FORGIVE YOU OR NOT!" Luffy sits up, rubbing his head, and Zeff remarks, "LOOK, YOU'RE PERFECTLY FINE." Luffy snaps back, "SHUT UP!" Zeff then offers a compromise: "ALRIGHT, KID. IF YOU'RE SO STRAPPED FOR TIME, THEN I'LL TELL YOU A FASTER WAY TO GET OUT OF HERE.
