One Piece Chapter 1.1, page 8-9: Romance Dawn (Version 1)

Gyari screams in denial of his defeat, his face comically distorted with rage: "I DIDN'T LOSE!!! AS IF I COULD LOSE, IDIOT!!!" and "I MUST LET DOWN MY GUARD!! I LOST BECAUSE MY GUARD WAS DOWN!!! WAIT, WHAT!?". A caption introduces him: "NAME: MIKAZUKI NO GYARI (CRESCENT MOON GYARI)". Luffy stands on the ship's deck, looking completely unfazed. Gyari demands, "I HEARD A RUMOR THAT THERE WAS A GUY GOING AROUND TAKING OVER PIRATE SHIPS BUT... WHAT GRUDGE DO YOU HAVE AGAINST US TO DO SUCH CRAP!!". Luffy calmly replies, "I WASN'T PLANNING ON FIGHTING. YOU GUY STARTED ATTACKING ME, REMEMBER?" and points at Gyari's mustache, calling him "'WEIRD BEARD,' RIGHT?". Gyari snaps, "WHO'S THE ONE PICKING A FIGHT!!". Luffy adds, "ALL THE PIRATES UP TO NOW DID THE SAME THING."

Gyari glares menacingly at Luffy, warning him, "BUT THIS TIME YOU PICKED THE WRONG ENEMY. YOU HAVE ANGERED A PERSON NO ONE IN THE WORLD WANTS TO MAKES AN ENEMY OF - THE MAN WHO WILL ENTER THE 'BEST 3,' GYARI..". However, Luffy has already walked away, leaving Gyari talking to empty air. Gyari's subordinate sweatdrops, saying, "HE'S GONE." and "OH, HE IS. Gyari furiously punches his subordinate with a loud "BONK" and screams, "I'LL KILL HIM!!!" Luffy walks down the quiet streets of the village, thinking, "THIS IS A QUIET VILLAGE, HUH... I'LL SET THOSE GUYS FREE SOMEWHERE FAR AWAY OUT AT SEA. IF THEY GOT OUT HERE AND STARTED RAMPAGING ABOUT, IT'D SEEM LIKE I BROUGHT THEM HERE." Suddenly, the village headman pops up in front of him, startled. Luffy blinks and says, "WAH" and "OH, HI. YOU HAVE A STRANGE HEAD, HUH?". The headman, sweating, bows and says, "I AM THIS VILLAGE'S HEADMAN! WE'LL LISTEN TO YOUR DEMANDS."
