Slopes. This chapter has 21 searchable pages. Opening and key page summaries: The title page of Chapter 29, titled "Slopes," features Monkey D. Luffy and Nami snowboarding down a snowy mountain. Luffy is performing an impressive handstand trick on his snowboard, wearing a winter hat and a shirt that reads "WHITE OUT!". Nami snowboards alongside him, smiling cheerfully while wearing a plaid shirt, a checkered beanie, and carrying a backpack. In the background, another snowboarder is visible on the slopes. The snowboard in the foreground has the word "BÉLLOCCOS" written on it. Usopp stands at the top of the slope, looking down at the massive crew of the Black Cat Pirates gathered below near their ship. He is sweating and panting heavily, wondering where Luffy went since he was supposed to be running ahead of him. Jango, wearing his heart-shaped sunglasses and coat, steps forward and confronts him, saying, "You're the one... who overheard our plans. What do you want?" Usopp tries to bluff, pointing dramatically and shouting, "I'm warning you! Retreat now!! I have a 100 million crewmen waiting to kill you all!" Jango is initially shocked and gullible, crying out, "What!? 100 million crewmen?!" and his crewmen panic. However, the smarter crewmen quickly point out that Usopp is lying, saying, "Captain! He's only lying!" and "Only an idiot would fall for that..." Jango realizes he's been fooled and gets angry, yelling, "You bastard, how dare you lie to me... Do you think we're 2 year-olds?" while Usopp sweats, realizing his bluff failed instantly. A pirate runs up to Jango to report, "Captain Jango! Good news! We found treasure on that weird boat over there! It's quite a lot... probably worth around 4... no, 5 million Beli!" Jango is surprised, and Usopp is shocked to hear they found 5 million Beli on their ship, wondering, "5 million? Why would those guys have so much money..." Desperate, Usopp yells out, "That is my treasure! But! I can give it to you!!" Usopp points and bargains, saying, "I will give you the treasure, but you must retreat!!" The pirates are excited at first, but Jango calls Usopp an idiot. Jango declares, "Of course we're going to take the treasure! But, we don't have to retreat!" Usopp is horrified by Jango's ruthless logic, thinking, "That sly bastard!" Jango pulls out his pendulum to hypnotize Usopp, starting his count: "Look at this... after I say '1, 2, Jango', you will let us pass! One... Two...". Usopp recognizes it with dread. But before Jango can finish, Nami suddenly leaps in from the side and whacks Jango on the head with her staff, interrupting him. The pirates are shocked, and one yells, "Captain! This isn't the time to let us pass!" while others wonder, "Who the heck is that girl?" Nami angrily points at the pirates, declaring, "Don't you dare take anything! Put it all back! Do you hear me? All the treasure on that boat belongs to me!" She then turns on Usopp, hitting him and scolding him, "How can you give away someone else's treasure!" Usopp protests, "Ouch... you could have just told me! I just saved you!" Nami warns Usopp, "Like I said, don't look at his pendulum! He's a hypnotist!" Nami asks where Luffy is, and Usopp explains that Luffy ran ahead so fast he lost sight of him. They realize Luffy must have gotten lost. Usopp tells Nami to charge ahead while he covers her, but Nami refuses, pointing out that she is weak too. Usopp admits he is shaking in fear and can't even move his legs, though Nami suspects he's lying. Meanwhile, the pirates are ignoring them and talking amongst themselves. Later page summaries: Jango screams at his crew, warning them that Kuro will kill them all if they mess up the plan. Terrified of Kuro, the pirates, including a large, heavy-set cat-eared pirate and the skinny one, charge forward up the slope. Usopp, still on the ground, weakly tries to stop them. Usopp desperately grabs the leg of the large cat-eared pirate to stop him. The large pirate kicks Usopp away brutally, calling him annoying. Usopp is sent flying through the air, crying out and begging them not to kill the villagers. Nami watches in horror. Suddenly, a massive crash echoes as the charging pirates are sent flying backward down the slope, screaming. Usopp, Nami, and Jango look on in utter shock. The pirates at the bottom of the slope are terrified, stammering that they didn't know the village had people like this. Standing triumphantly at the top of the slope are Luffy and Zoro. Zoro is furious at Nami for kicking him down the well/slope earlier, while Luffy is yelling at Usopp for not telling him which way north was. Jango and his pirates stare at them in confusion, wondering who these powerful newcomers are.
