Opening and key page summaries: The chapter title page features Nami sitting comfortably on the coils of a massive, bandaged snake in a forest clearing. She is holding a staff and eating a dark apple, while a small bird nest with two chicks sits on the snake's tail nearby. The title reads: CHAPTER 24 "THINGS THAT YOU CAN'T LIE ABOUT". In Syrup Village, three young boys run down a dirt path between houses. The boy with glasses, Tamanegi, shouts, "CAPTAIN BROUGHT THE PIRATES HERE!" The spiky-haired boy, Ninjin, asks, "HEY TAMANEGI! DID THE PIRATES REALLY GO INTO THIS SHOP?" The boy with the skullcap confirms, "YUP, I SAW THEM." They worry that real pirates are savages and might have eaten their captain, Usopp. They resolve to save him, declaring, "THIS IS GOING TO BE THE MOST DANGEROUS BATTLE SINCE WE STARTED THE 'USOPP PIRATE GROUP'!" The three boys slam open the door of the shop with a loud "SLAM!!" (SFX: ばんっ!!). They shout, "USOPP PIRATE GROUP... IS HERE!!" only to find Luffy, Zoro, and Nami sitting at a table. Luffy is drinking from a cup, and Nami looks back in confusion. The boys realize their captain isn't there and panic, thinking he has been eaten. They point their wooden swords at the group, demanding, "H... HEY PIRATES!! WHAT DID YOU DO TO OUR CAPTAIN USOPP?! GIVE US BACK OUR CAPTAIN!!" Luffy happily chews on a piece of meat, saying, "YUM YUM! WHAT A DELICIOUS MEAT!" The boys gasp in horror, thinking he ate Usopp. Zoro, resting his head on his hand with a sly grin, plays along with a dramatic "DO--N" (どーん) sound effect, saying, "WE JUST... ATE HIM." The boys scream in terror, "GYAAAAAA-AAAAAHHHHH! ONIBABA!! AAAA....!!!" pointing at Nami. Nami, furious, yells, "WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME?!!" and hits Zoro and Luffy, leaving them with bumps on their heads. She yells at Zoro, "WHY DID YOU TELL THEM THOSE WEIRD THINGS?!" while the boys lie fainted on the floor. After calming down, the boys sit at the table with Nami, Zoro, and Luffy. They explain that Usopp left the shop saying, "It's that time again." They reveal that he went to the mansion where a sick girl lives. Luffy asks why he goes there, and Nami asks if it's to tell lies. The boys happily confirm, saying, "THAT'S NOT BAD! ACTUALLY, IT'S GREAT!" Luffy is confused, asking, "ISN'T THAT A BAD THING TO DO?" but the kids insist it's very good. Outside a large, luxurious mansion, the butler Clahador stands tall, adjusting his glasses with his palm. He is talking to the young lady of the house, Kaya, who is visible in a window. Clahador tells her that she shouldn't talk to Usopp anymore because he is the biggest liar in the village and she might catch his bad influence. Kaya looks sad but determined, asking what is wrong with wanting to talk to him. Inside her room, Kaya sits in her bed, calling Clahador "PETTY!" and stating she won't change her mind because Usopp's stories are exciting and make her feel better. Clahador, looking serious, explains that when her parents passed away, they specifically instructed him to protect her. He adjusts his glasses with the side of his palm (SFX: SRET) and insists on keeping her safe. Clahador explains that he hired guards to ensure her safety, showing two suited guards standing at the mansion's iron gates. Kaya looks down sadly, saying, "I KNOW..." Clahador adjusts his glasses again, saying it is all for her own good. He places her medicine on a table, saying, "I'LL PUT YOUR MEDICINE HERE, PLEASE TAKE IT," and leaves the room, closing the door with a "SLAM..!" Kaya sighs, "OKAY..." Later page summaries: Clahador sneers, saying Usopp certainly lies well. He then coldly says, "I'M NOT SURPRISED THAT YOU TURNED OUT THIS WAY. YOU'RE THE SON OF A FILTHY PIRATE." Usopp's expression turns to shock and anger. Luffy, Zoro, and Nami look on in surprise as Luffy asks, "HIS DAD WAS A PIRATE?" Clahador continues his verbal assault, telling Usopp to stay away from Kaya because they belong to totally different worlds, asking if it's money he is looking for and telling him to name his price. Kaya is outraged by Clahador's cruelty and screams, "THAT'S ENOUGH CLAHADOR!!! APOLOGIZE TO USOPP-SAN AT ONCE!!" Clahador calmly refuses, saying there is no need to apologize to an uncivilized person. He looks at Usopp and says he feels sorry for him because he must hate his father, a "dumb treasure hunter" who deserted his family and village. He mockingly suggests Usopp should have lied and said his father was a traveling merchant or not blood-related. Usopp, trembling with rage, growls, "I WON'T LET YOU SAY ANOTHER BAD THING ABOUT MY FATHER!" In a sudden burst of anger, Usopp lunges forward and punches Clahador squarely in the face, shouting, "SHUT UP!!!!" Clahador is knocked to the ground, his glasses flying off. Kaya gasps in shock, covering her mouth. Luffy watches with a serious expression. The three kids scream, "CAPTAIN!" in terror, while Zoro and Nami look on silently. Clahador, holding his bruised face, mutters, "UH.... GRH!! SEE... YOU'RE SO VIOLENT! LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON!!" Usopp stands over him, yelling, "SHUT UP!!!!" Usopp screams with absolute pride and fury, "I'M PROUD THAT MY DAD WAS A PIRATE!!! I'M PROUD THAT HE WAS A BRAVE WARRIOR OF THE SEA!" He glares down at Clahador, declaring, "YOU'RE RIGHT THAT I LIKE TO LIE, BUT I'M PROUD OF HAVING A PIRATE'S BLOOD IN ME!! I DON'T HAVE TO PRETEND THAT I'M NOT!!! I AM THE SON OF A PIRATE!!!" Luffy, Zoro, and Nami watch him. Hearing Usopp's words, Luffy's eyes widen in realization as he says, "OH YEAH!! THAT GUY..!! NOW I REMEMBER...!!"
