Shanks looks at Luffy, surprised, then smiles gently: "Hmm... You're gonna be better than us, huh?" He takes off his trademark straw hat and places it firmly on Luffy's head, shadowing the boy's eyes. Shanks says: "Well then... Do me a favor... Keep this hat safe for me?

Shanks tells Luffy: "This hat means a lot to me. Promise that you'll give it back to me someday......when you've become a great pirate." Luffy grips the hat, tears streaming down his face as he silently cries. Shanks turns and walks back to his ship. Benn Beckman remarks: "That kid's gonna make something of himself." Shanks smiles: "Yeah... He acts just like I did when I was a kid." The crew shouts: "Weigh the anchor! Raise the sails! We're off with the tide!!" A narration box reads: "Luffy's adventure......begins 10 years later from this very same spot.

A sign reads: "Ten years later...". At the harbor, Makino and Mayor Woop Slap stand together. Makino smiles: "Well, he's finally setting out, eh, Mayor?" Woop Slap grumbles: "I'll miss that rascal. But if he does become a pirate, he'll bring shame to the village." Other villagers wave: "I never thought he'd really do it!" Out on the water, a now 17-year-old Luffy sits in a small rowboat, smiling: "It's a good day to set out to sea!
