One Piece Chapter 27, page 20-21: The Plot

Usopp quickly wipes his tears with his sleeve, trying to act tough: "Hey! Hi everybody!" Luffy looks at him blankly and asks, "Still alive? How can you still be alive?" Nami explains, "He was asleep the whole time," and Luffy adds, "I just woke up." Just then, Ninjin, Piiman, and Tamanegi run up to them, shouting, "Captain! We heard about the pirates! We've got to warn everyone!" Usopp freezes, remembering Kaya's tearful face and the villagers chasing him. He forces a loud, fake laugh: "Wahahaha! What pirates...? Warn everyone...?

Usopp laughs hysterically, throwing his head back: "Just like all the other times, of course it was just a lie! I was just having my revenge on that butler, by making up stories about him being a pirate!" Luffy, Zoro, and Nami watch him in silence. The three kids are completely dumbfounded. Ninjin screams, "Whatttt!? It was just a lie?" and Piiman sighs, "Man! I thought something big was going to happen!" Tamanegi points at Luffy, saying, "Even the Straw-hat niichan helped Captain Usopp lie to us!" Luffy just says, "Eh??" The kids look at Usopp with deep disappointment, saying, "Captain shouldn't make up lies just because of this. That's not honorable!" and "No matter how mean that butler is... Captain, I never thought you would make up lies to hurt others.
