The story begins with a grand view of the ocean-going restaurant, the Baratie, floating on the sea. A caption reads: "RESTAURANT OF THE SEAS, 'BARATIE'". Inside, Monkey D. Luffy is negotiating his chore-boy sentence with the head chef, Zeff. Luffy holds up a single finger and confidently demands to cut his service down "TO JUST 1 WEEK." Zeff, sporting his signature braided mustache and chef's hat, reacts with intense anger, shouting: "WHAT DID YOU SAY PUNK? YOU THINK YOU CAN DESTROY MY RESTAURANT WITH A CANNONBALL, LEAVE ME CRITICALLY INJURED, AND THEN MAKE IT UP BY ONLY WORKING 1 WEEK WITHOUT PAY...?"
