One Piece Chapter 1.2, page 0-2: Romance Dawn (Version 2)

The title page features Monkey D. Luffy standing proudly on the bow of a small boat, holding a large black pirate flag bearing his signature straw-hat-wearing skull and crossbones. Standing back-to-back with him is Anne, a young woman with short hair wearing a striped shirt, looking out toward the horizon with a bright smile. Below them, the bold title reads 'ROMANCE DAWN' with the Japanese subtitle 'ロマンス ドーン'.

Out on the calm, open sea under a clear sky, Monkey D. Luffy wakes up on his tiny wooden boat. He stretches his arms wide, yawning loudly, 'FWAAAH! I SLEPT WELL. I FEEL GREAT!' A text box introduces him: 'NAME: MONKEY D. LUFFY'. Suddenly, a sharp, echoing gunshot sound, 'PAAN...!', rings out across the water, startling him as he sits up and wonders, 'WHA?

Luffy hears a strange whistling sound from above, 'WHAT'S THAT SOUND?', just before a massive, bizarre-looking bird crashes violently into his small boat with a loud splash. Luffy is bewildered: 'A BIRD? WHAT A HUGE BIRD. IS IT AN OSTRICH? NO, MAYBE A PANDA?' The bird, which has panda-like markings around its eyes, cries out in pain, 'Gwaaah'. Luffy notices the impact has smashed a hole in the bottom of his boat, causing water to gush in: 'AH!! THE IMPACT JUST NOW MADE A HOLE ON THE BOAT!!' Desperate to keep from sinking, Luffy grabs the struggling bird and stuffs its rear end into the breach: 'HEY!! DON'T MOVE AROUND, OKAY...!? I'M PLUGGING THE HOLE WITH YOUR BUTT. IF THE BOAT SINKS, I'M SCREWED 'CAUSE I CAN'T SWIM.' He then notices the bird is bleeding: 'YOU'RE HURT. WHAT HAPPENED!?
