One Piece Chapter 1.1, page 36-37: Romance Dawn (Version 1)

On the pier, Gyari raises his arms and cheers, "SET SAIL!!!" as his crew laughs. Meanwhile, the village headman notices Shiruku running toward the edge of the pier. He screams, "OI, SHIRUKU, WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO DO!!". Shiruku dives headfirst into the ocean. The headman panics, "THAT SHIRUKU, SHE'S REALLY RISKING IT!! IF THEY NOTICE HER, SHE'LL GET KILLED!". Underwater, Shiruku swims down and grabs the sinking Luffy, pulling him back toward the surface. She encourages him, "HANG ON, IT'S JUST A BIT FARTHER!!".

Shiruku drags Luffy onto the sandy beach. Luffy coughs up water, gasping, "THANK YOU, I OWE YOU MY LIFE!!". Shiruku asks, "ARE YOU ALL RIGHT?". Luffy immediately looks around, demanding, "WHERE IS HE!!?". Shiruku tries to stop him, saying, "IT'S NO USE NOW!! YOU CAN'T REACH THEM. UNDERSTAND HOW PRECIOUS SOMETHING YOU TREASURE IS BUT...". Luffy grinds his teeth in fury, shouting, "IF YOU UNDERSTAND, YOU KNOW THERE'S NO WAY I CAN FORGIVE HIM!! IT'S THE SAME...!!!!". He runs back into the village, looking up at the tall clock tower: "THAT, HUH? I WON'T LET YOU ESCAPE...!!". Luffy climbs to the top of the tower, looking out at the pirate ship sailing away. He grins determinedly, saying, "OKAY, THIS SEEMS ABOUT RIGHT."
