The Marine guard throws the little girl over the wall, but Luffy leaps down and catches her safely. Koby rushes over to check on her. Meanwhile, in the courtyard, Helmeppo mocks Zolo's stubbornness. Zolo insists he will survive the full month as agreed, and Helmeppo laughs, reiterating his promise to free Zolo if he survives the month.

Luffy approaches Zolo, who is still tied to the post. Zolo warns Luffy to leave before Helmeppo's father catches him. Luffy reveals he is looking for crewmates for his pirate crew. Zolo flatly refuses, saying he would never lower himself to become a pirate. Luffy defends his dream, and when Zolo asks if Luffy expects him to join just for untying him, Luffy replies that he hasn't even decided to ask him yet because of Zolo's bad reputation.

Zolo explains that he doesn't need Luffy's help because he has his own plans and will be freed after surviving the month, as promised by Helmeppo. Luffy is skeptical about surviving a month without food, but Zolo boasts about his superior willpower and tells Luffy to look elsewhere. As Luffy turns to leave, Zolo calls him back, asking him to pick up something from the ground.
