Helmeppo snatches a rice ball from the little girl and takes a bite, only to spit it out in disgust because she used sugar instead of salt. He then throws the rice balls onto the ground and stomps on them repeatedly, completely crushing them into the dirt while laughing cruelly, leaving the little girl devastated.

The little girl cries over her ruined food. Helmeppo points to a Marine sign stating that anyone helping the prisoner will be executed. He threatens her, saying she would be executed if she were an adult. He then orders a Marine guard to throw her over the high courtyard wall. When the guard hesitates, Helmeppo threatens to tell his father, forcing the guard to comply.
