One Piece Chapter 2.3, page 1-2: That Boy "The Straw Hat Wearing Luffy"

Under a bright, clear sky filled with seagulls, Monkey D. Luffy is sailing alone on a small wooden boat. He is smiling widely, resting his arms on the side of the boat. A narration box reads: "AFTER RECKLESSLY GOING OUT TO SEA WITH A LITTLE BOAT, THIS YOUNG MAN PLANS ON 'MAKING SOME FRIENDS' AND FORMING HIS OWN FLEET OF PIRATES." Luffy happily says, "AH! THE WEATHER IS PRETTY NICE TODAY." However, another narration box warns: "WHO WOULD'VE THOUGHT I'D GET INTO SUCH A DISASTER!?" Luffy continues, "ON A NICE DAY LIKE THIS." A label identifies him as "MONKEY D. LUFFY." At the bottom, the Japanese chapter title is displayed: "第2話 その男"麦わらのルフィ"" (Chapter 2: That Boy "Straw Hat Luffy").

Luffy's small boat is suddenly caught in a massive, roaring whirlpool in the middle of the ocean. Luffy looks down at the swirling water and says, "WHAT A HUGE WHIRLPOOL. HOW CARELESS OF ME." He looks around and notes, "THERE'S NO ONE AROUND ME. IT'LL BE REALLY BAD IF THIS BOAT WRECKS... AND ON TOP OF THAT, I CAN'T EVEN SWIM." He then pauses, realizing, "AH! WAIT A MINUTE! IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER IF I KNOW HOW TO SWIM IN A SITUATION LIKE THIS. SWIMMING WON'T SAVE YOU HERE." The boat is violently sucked down into the center of the vortex as he screams, "WA!! AHHHH!!
