Pants from Franky House

At the Galley-La Company headquarters, the Straw Hats prepare to deal with Usopp. Someone reminds them, "REMEMBER, THAT IS HOW IT SHOULD BE DONE..." and they answer, "... OKAY." But the mood quickly slips into bounty-poster chaos. Luffy laughs at Sanji's hand-drawn poster and says, "HEY, HOW MUCH LONGER ARE YOU GONNA STAY DEPRESSED? IT'S PRETTY GOOD TO GET A BOUNTY THAT HIGH FOR THE FIRST TIME, YOU KNOW." Sanji explodes, "SHUT UP!!! WHY IS MY PICTURE THE ONLY ONE HAND-DRAWN!!? TELL ME, WHICH PART OF THIS IS ME!!?" Zoro dryly says, "THAT PICTURE LOOKS JUST LIKE YOU," while Chopper screams that he fought like a brave man and is not satisfied with "THIS 50 BERI!!" Nami worries that she now has a bounty too, and Robin jokes, "I'LL BE A LAUGHING-STOCK... OF ALL THE LADIES OUT THERE."

Outside, the group leaves Galley-La to collect Franky and the new ship. A voice calls, "HURRY UP! BRO'S WAITING FOR YOU," and another tells Nami, "YOU'RE LEAVING ALREADY, PIRATE NEE-CHAN?" Sanji still has not recovered from the insult of his poster, so someone snaps, "JUST LEAVE THAT SPIRALLY IDIOT BEHIND," while another notes, "SANJI'S NOT MOVING." At Marine Headquarters, officers study the aftermath of Enies Lobby and say, "THIS IS A VERY EXTRA-ORDINARY CASE." Even though the Straw Hats are few, their total bounty exceeds 600 million. Then the awkward issue appears: "THIS 'BLACK LEG' GUY... WHY DOESN'T HE HAVE A PHOTOGRAPH?" The photographer says he did take a picture, but what came out after developing is "surprising" and "mysterious," so the photo is indeed the strange drawing.

The Straw Hats and the Franky Family reach the water around docks 5 and 6. The family cries, "BRO!!" and "THEY'RE HERE--!!" Franky lies exhausted among the wreckage, groaning until he hears them. Luffy and the others look toward the rubble and say, "WOW!! THERE'S SOMETHING HUGE OVER THERE!!" Chopper asks, "IS THAT IT!?" The new ship is not yet fully revealed, but its scale already dominates Shipwreck Island. Franky's body is battered from the work, yet the thing he built is waiting behind him like a promise.

Luffy rushes forward, fist raised, and shouts, "HEEEY!! WE'RE HERE, FRANKY!!! GIVE US THE SHIP!!!" Iceburg greets them with "NMAAA" and says, "WELCOME... UNFORTUNATELY, FRANKY'S NOT AROUND, BUT THE SHIP IS READY. ALLOW ME TO SHOW YOU THE SHIP INSTEAD." He praises it as amazing and says he was astonished when he saw the blueprints: "IT WILL BE ABLE TO CROSS ANY KIND OF SEA." The words make Luffy shine with excitement, and Iceburg adds that Franky left him a message. The message is for the future Pirate King: "IF YOU WILL BE THE PIRATE KING ONE DAY," then "SET SAIL WITH THE 'KING OF BEASTS'!!!"

The new ship bursts into view, towering over the Straw Hats. Luffy cries, "IT'S HUGE!!! IT'S BEYOND AMAZING!!!" and Chopper stammers, "WUOOOH, HE'S GIVING US THIS!!?" Zoro notes that it is twice as big as Merry. Nami points out, "IT HAS A BIG GAFF SAIL!!" and asks whether it is a sloop, while Sanji immediately demands, "SHOW ME THE KITCHEN!! KITCHEN!!" Robin smiles and says, "IT'S A FABULOUS SHIP...." The ship's lion figurehead, tall mast, domed rooms, lawn, and broad deck make it feel like a whole new home rather than a simple replacement for the Going Merry.

The crew begins exploring the ship's details. Someone wonders what kind of flower Franky used for the figurehead, and Iceburg corrects the idea: "NMAAA, I THINK IT'S A LION, NOT A FLOWER." Chopper finds the inside wonderful, and Nami discovers a lawned deck with trees and even "A SLIDE--!!" She says it seems they can do some gardening there. Looking up at the rigging, Nami calls the huge sail a "BRIGANTINE SAIL" and says a sloop can sail wherever it wants, though whether they can actually do so is up to the navigator. She accepts the challenge with a smile: "YUP, THE CHALLENGE EXCITES ME!! I'LL TRY MY BEST!!"

More dreamlike features appear one after another. Someone points to "THE BRIDGE WITH A LOCK THAT I'VE BEEN DREAMING OF!!" and another finds "A HUGE OVEN, TOO!!" Luffy leans over the deck and asks Iceburg, "WHERE'S FRANKY? I WANT TO THANK HIM!" Iceburg realizes what Franky is doing. He says Franky has no intention of seeing them anymore and asks whether they are trying to recruit him as shipwright. Luffy admits, "YUP!! HOW DID YOU KNOW!? I'VE DECIDED TO HAVE HIM AS A SHIPWRIGHT!!" Iceburg says Franky probably noticed. He explains that Franky really likes being with them, but believes he has a duty to stay on the island forever. By entrusting them with the dream ship he treasures so much, Franky's true wish should be obvious.

Iceburg names Franky's stubbornness for what it is. When Luffy asks, "A DUTY?" Iceburg answers, "NOTHING MORE THAN A SILLY TENACITY, IF YOU ASK ME." If the Straw Hats really intend to bring Franky along, he tells them not to choose their means: "JUST TAKE HIM BY FORCE. THAT'S THE ONLY WAY TO SET HIM FREE." Meanwhile, at Backstreet Franky House, the Franky Family returns and finds Franky sitting outside. Franky asks, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING BACK HERE?" and when they try to speak, he cuts them off: "I'LL STOP WITH THE CHIT-CHAT, BRO...!!" They shout the truth at him anyway: "BRO!! YOU WANT TO GO WITH THE STRAWHATS, DON'T YOU?"

Franky rejects the idea loudly, saying, "OF COURSE NOT...!! LOOK AT THIS, WITH YOUR SKILLS, YOU CAN'T EVEN BUILD A DECENT ENOUGH HOUSE." The family answers that they only asked the Straw Hats to take him to sea as a favor, but Franky calls them idiots and tells them to mind their own business. He says, "HE ALREADY DECIDED IT!! YOU'RE GONNA BE THEIR SHIP, WRIGHT!!" and someone challenges him, "AND JUST WHY DO I HAVE TO BE A PIRATE?" The Franky Family cuts past the excuses. Seeing him actually build a ship was their first time realizing he could smile so happily, and they know he ran from the Straw Hats because they were looking for a ship.

The Franky Family forces Franky to face his new reality. "LOOK AT THIS, BRO!!!" they shout, showing his wanted poster. Franky already knows: "WANTED POSTER...!! I KNEW I'D GET ONE." The family says, "YOU CAN'T STAY WITH US ANYMORE. WE DON'T WANT TO BE A BURDEN TO YOU!!" Franky refuses the emotional attack and growls, "DON'T GIVE ME ANY OF THAT CRAP!! WHO CARES ABOUT THE MARINES!?" He reminds them they were all about to die in the backstreet, but he found them, and they would not have survived without him. The family does not argue. Instead, someone grabs the one thing that will make him move and yells, "I GOT HIS PANTS!!!"

Franky freezes as the family holds up his stolen pants. The usually fearless cyborg suddenly looks monstrous from behind and says, "... GIVE ME BACK MY PANTS, PUNK." His followers scatter at once. "SPLIT UP!! LET'S GO!!!" they shout, turning the backstreet into a full chase. Franky tells them, "BRING IT ON!! YOU KNOW YOU'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO DEFEAT ME. EVEN IF YOU GANG UP ON ME, DON'T YOU!!?" The plan becomes a relay: "JUST ONE SURVIVOR IS ENOUGH!!! BRING THE PANTS TO STRAWHAT-SAN!!! BRING THE PANTS TO THE SHIPWRECK ISLAND!!!" The family runs through town screaming "STRONG RIGHT!!!" and "PASS IT OVER HERE, BUDDY!!!" while Franky pursues them half-naked.

The chase erupts through the streets of Water Seven. Townspeople shout, "WHAT'S GOING ON...!?" and "FRANKY'S GOING WILD!!" Someone cries that "A PERVERT!!!" is loose and that the town will fall apart. Franky bursts into the open wearing nothing below the waist, and the crowd screams, "OH, HEY, WAIT--!! HE ISN'T WEARING ANYTHING!!!" Mothers yell, "TAKE THE KIDS INSIDE!!!" and others shout, "DON'T LET THEM SEE THE PERVERT!!!" Even lawmen join the chaos, yelling, "YOU'RE UNDER ARREST FOR 'INDECENT EXPOSURE'!!" and "DELIVER THE PANTS!!!" The Franky Family's ridiculous rescue plan turns into a citywide emergency.

The backstreet becomes a warzone. The pants are passed from one runner to another, with shouts of "PASS IT OVER HERE!!" and "GO AHEAD OF HIM WITH THE YAGARA!!" Franky charges after them, but someone trips him, crying, "SHIT!! MY LEG...!" A runner collapses and says, "I CAN'T TAKE IT ANY-MORE!! IS THIS IT...!?" Another yells, "HEYY!! PASS IT OVER!!! THIS WAY!!!" until the pants finally reach Luffy. A battered member of the family screams, "STRAW-HAT!!! TOSS IT OVER!!!" and Luffy, grinning, stretches his hand out to receive the final pass.

Franky sees Luffy with the pants and yells, "PUNK...!!" but Luffy asks the only question that matters: "DID YOU LIKE THE SHIP!!?" Franky answers from the heart, "YEAH!!! I'VE NEVER SEEN SUCH AN INCREDIBLE SHIP! THANKS!!!" Then he tries to return to the real issue: "NOW GIMME BACK MY PANTS!!!" Luffy ignores the demand and says, "THE SHIP IS THE GREATEST 'DREAM SHIP'." Franky proudly explains that he put in everything Luffy requested, plus his own super planning, including his new invention, the "SOLDIER DOCK SYSTEM." Luffy asks about the fish preserve, and Franky says it is the special feature Luffy will like. Before Franky can reclaim anything, Luffy orders, "NOT YET!!"

Franky explains the fish preserve in detail: if they put fish into the preserve, they can enjoy them in the large fish tank downstairs, and the room is like an aquarium where they can have dinner. "YOU'LL GET TO EAT FRESH FISH ALL THE TIME!!" he says. Luffy's verdict is simple: "THE SHIP IS THE GREATEST 'DREAM SHIP'. FOR BOTH YOU AND ME!!!" Franky again demands, "NOW GIMME BACK MY PANTS!!!" but Luffy passes command to the crew. Zoro and Chopper move, and Luffy shouts, "FIRE!! 'NANDEMO CANNON'!!! AIM AT THE SHIPWRECK ISLAND!!" Franky screams that it is a "FRANKY FAMILY SPECIALTY!!" and asks what they are doing as the cannon launches him away.

Franky rockets toward Shipwreck Island before he can reclaim his pants. Chopper realizes, "HE GOT THERE BEFORE HIS PANTS!!" and Luffy grabs him, shouting, "HOLD ONTO ME, CHOPPER!!" He launches himself with "GOMU GOMU NO ROCKET!!" and shoots after Franky. The crowd sees the naked cyborg crash back into the wreckage and screams, "LOOK, THE PERVERT!!" Down below, Franky lands upside down in the debris with a thunderous impact. His pants flutter down later, marked by soft "basa" sounds, and he raises a hand as people call, "FRANKY!!" The comedy has carried him exactly where Iceburg said he needed to be: back before the ship and the people trying to free him.

The ship stands in full view as Luffy thanks Franky openly: "THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE SHIP!!!" and "IT'S THE GREATEST. WE'LL TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT!!!" Franky answers, "YEAH." Luffy says, "I WISH YOU ALL A SAFE JOURNEY WITH THE SHIP," but the sentence stops him from hiding behind farewell. Luffy holds Franky's pants and gives the real condition: "IF YOU WANT THESE BACK, THEN BE OUR NAKAMA!!!" Franky stares at him, caught between pride, embarrassment, and the dream he tried to hand away. The chapter ends with Luffy making the invitation as bluntly as possible.
