The Crimson Hell

A massive explosion erupts as a striped arm swings a jagged weapon, black smoke and impact lines bursting outward while a skull-faced figure yells "UHOHO!!!". In the next panel a wide-eyed character with rabbit-ear hair leaps forward shouting "SUPON!!" as another figure yells "BARA BARA EMERGENCY ESCAPE!!!". The scene cuts to close-ups: a shocked skull face exclaims "!I", a screaming prisoner cries "NUARY-AAAAA!!", and Buggy recoils with a startled "!" as debris flies.

From above, a voice commands "FALL AND SPLIT YOUR HEAD OPEN!!!". Buggy plummets through the air, arms raised in panic. A large speech bubble declares "AERIAL TAILSPIN BIG CIRCUS"!!! as the striped figure spins wildly downward through the prison levels, trailing motion lines and debris. Another character laughs "GYAHA-HAHA-HAHA!!" while the spinning body crashes through railings with massive impact effects "!!!!" and "ドドド".

The long-haired escapee shouts "GEH!! IT DIDN'T WORK!!!" as Buggy groans "UHOHO...". The striped prisoner laughs triumphantly "YOU'RE DONE FOR, YOU SEA GORILLA!" and "MGYAHA-HAHA!!" while the other figure yells "DOWAH, THAT WAS CLOSE!!!". Buggy tumbles through the air amid flying debris and impact lines, narrowly avoiding attacks as the chaotic descent continues through the prison.

Luffy stands over a defeated Blugori as the creature lies sprawled on the stone floor amid swirling dust and debris. Someone remarks, "...!!!" A voice notes, "I... LOOKS LIKE YOU GOT A LITTLE STRONGER..." Buggy stares in shock from the side. Luffy clenches his fist and declares, "THEY'RE STRONG. WHAT KIND OF ANIMAL ARE THEY!I" Buggy explains, "THEY'RE THE MARTIAL ARTISTS OF THE OCEAN, THE BLUE GORILLAS, OR 'BLUGORI.' DON'T GET CARELESS; THERE ARE STILL FOUR MORE..." The pair then burst into a massive hall where multiple Blugori lie defeated. Luffy shouts, "WOW! THEY... THEY BEAT THE BLUGORI!!" Buggy yells, "THEY'RE ALREADY DOWN!!!" Voices from the cells cry out, "HEY!! WHO ARE YOU GUYS!I OPEN THE DOOR!! OPEN IT!!!" Luffy replies, "BUT I DON'T HAVE TIME TO FIGHT THEM ALL LIKE THIS!!"

Prison guards react in panic at their monitors. One reports, "FIVE BLUGORI HAVE BEEN BEATEN!!" Another says, "ANYWAY, IN FRONT OF MIXED RESIDENCE CELL NUMBER 10,...I THERE SHOULD BE JUST ONE... ISN'T THERE ONLY ONE ESCAPEEI" A guard questions, "BUT I THINK I SAW TWO SHADOWS... I MIGHT HAVE SEEN IT WRONG..." The chief guard shouts, "YOU WANT TO SAVE ACE!!I" He continues, "THERE SHOULDN'T BE ANYBODY ON LEVEL 1 WHO CAN TAKE OUT FIVE BLUGORI!!! FIVE OF THEM!I THAT CAN'T BE..." Buggy and Luffy argue in the corridor. Buggy snaps, "JEEZ YOU'RE NOISY! SHUT UP!!!" Luffy retorts, "HEY, GUYS, OPEN THE CELL... YOU'RE THE ONE WHO WAS YELLING." Buggy hisses, "SHHHHH!!! THEY'LL FIND US!!" Luffy adds, "YEAH... UNLIKE YOU, YOUR BROTHER SEEMS LIKE A GOOD GUY!!" Buggy explains, "IT'S PURE FOOLISHNESS TO LAY A HAND ON ONE OF WHITEBEARD'S GUYS, MARINES...! SO I WAS REALLY BUMMED OUT WHEN I HEARD WHAT HAPPENED. WE WERE DRINKING BUDDIES FOR A WHILE."

Buggy warns Luffy, "EVEN THOUGH THERE ARE TEN WARSHIPS OUTSIDE! CAN YOU REALLY ESCAPEI" Luffy answers, "HOW SHOULD I KNOW!!!I IF YOU WANNA GO, THEN GO ON YOUR OWN! DO YOU THINK WE'RE FRIENDS OR SOMETHING!I I'M NOT GOING SOMEWHERE THAT DANGEROUS!" Buggy storms off up the stairs. Luffy calls after him, "GUESS I'LL HAVE TO ASK SOMEONE ELSE...!!!" A woman with a Den Den Mushi gasps, "...!!! NO, NO, IT CAN'T BE. THAT'S TOTALLY RIDICULOUS..." Luffy asks her, "GET US THE KEY..." Brook the skeleton appears, exclaiming, "T... TEN OF THEM!I I SEE...!!! IT'S TO DEFEND AGAINST WHITEBEARD......THIS IS A BAD TIME...!!! WELL THEN, I'LL JUST KILL SOME TIME HERE..." The woman stares in disbelief as Luffy waves and says, "WELL, SEE YOU LATER! GOOD LUCK ESCAPING!"

Buggy grabs Luffy by the collar and roars, "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU!!!I HOLD IT RIGHT THERE, STRAWHAT!!!" Luffy yells back, "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOU ALL OF A SUDDEN!I" Buggy demands, "H... HEY... THAT ARMBAND!! IT... IT'S AMAZING!! HAND IT OVER!!" Luffy replies, "I GOT THIS FROM NAMI." They tumble down the stairs in a chaotic fight as guards appear. Buggy shouts, "WHY ARE YOU YELLING!I" Luffy answers, "THEY FOUND US!!!" Buggy cries, "THERE THEY ARE!!!" Impact sounds echo with "DON! DOOON!!" Luffy declares, "FIRST, LET'S TAKE CARE OF THE ENEMIES!" Buggy agrees, "SURE!! IF THAT'S WHAT YOU WANT!!" Luffy asks, "IN RETURN, WILL YOU GIVE ME THE ARM-BAND!I" Buggy yells, "REALLY!I" Luffy adds, "I'LL TELL YOU HOW TO GET TO WHERE ACE IS!!" Buggy cheers, "ALL RIGHT!!!"

Buggy rockets forward through the stone corridors of Impel Down, body parts separated and flying. "I'LL SHOW YOU THE WAY TO THE ENTRANCE OF LEVEL 2!!!" he shouts. "RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!" A diagram explains his Bara Bara no Mi: the parts are controllable within a set area, but the feet have to stay on the ground. Buggy the Clown's Bara Bara power explanation notes he can split his body and move each part freely, though the feet can't fly. On the stairs below, Buggy points and tells Luffy, "THIS IS THE FIRST FLOOR UNDERGROUND, SO IT'S CALLED LEVEL 1..." Luffy replies, "LISTEN, THE IMPEL DOWN PRISON IS SET UP LIKE THIS..." Buggy insists, "I'M TELLING YOU, STRAWHAT, YOU CAN'T GO STRAIGHT THERE!!" Luffy yells back, "LEVEL 2!I NO, NO, I WANT TO GO TO LEVEL 5!!"

Buggy continues explaining the prison layout while Luffy listens. A diagram shows the towering structure: Level 1 at the top down to Level 5 at the bottom. Buggy says, "I'VE BEEN SENT TO LEVEL 4 FOR THE BURNING TORTURE. I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT THE NEXT LEVEL DOWN WOULD BE LIKE!!!" He adds, "LEVEL 2, LEVEL 3... THE CRIMINALS GET MORE AND MORE POWERFUL AS YOU GO FARTHER DOWN...!!!" Buggy warns, "THE MONSTERS SLEEPING THERE ARE SO EVIL THAT THEY'VE BEEN COMPLETELY ERASED FROM HISTORY... IT'S JUST A RUMOR, BUT ACE MIGHT BE THERE." Another panel notes some prisoners say there's another floor below that. Buggy offers, "ANYWAY!! I CAN LEAD YOU AS FAR AS LEVEL 4!" Luffy runs ahead through the halls. Buggy then grabs Luffy's armband, exclaiming, "KYAHAHAHA, THAT'S BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO GIVE ME THAT TREASURE MARK THAT SHOWS YOU THE WAY TO CAPTAIN JOHN'S TREASURE..." Luffy replies, "I SEE! YOU GOT ALL OF A SUDDEN."

Buggy and Luffy argue over the armband. Luffy thinks, "HUH, SO THIS ARMBAND IS LIKE A TREASURE MAP. I DIDN'T KNOW AT ALL!!!" Buggy snaps, "SHUT UP!!! DON'T SAY THAT!!!" and "YOU... YOU'RE HERE BECAUSE YOU'RE WEAK, RIGHTI" Buggy lunges with a weapon, yelling, "SO YOU HEARD!!! DAMN IT!!! THERE'S NO HELPING THAT IT'S OUT!! I'LL JUST TAKE IT BY FORCE..." Luffy dodges and says, "ALL RIGHT, JUST TAKE IT." Buggy grabs the armband. Luffy smiles and replies, "YEAH, I GUESS! BUT YOU SAID YOU'D SHOW ME THE WAY!" Buggy growls, "...BUT... IF YOU GIVE IT TO ME NOW, I CAN JUST TAKE OFF WITHOUT HELPING YOU, YOU KNOW!!I" Luffy answers, "YEAH, I JUST WANT TO SAVE ACE!!" Buggy stares in shock, thinking, "YOU...!!! EVEN THOUGH YOU KNOW IT'S TREASURE... YOU'LL GIVE IT TO ME...!I"

Buggy breaks down in tears, face covered in sweat and snot, shouting, "YOU SHOULDN'T... BE TRUSTING A GUY LIKE ME..." Large text reads "ごわわわあっ..." He continues, "YOU CAN'T TRUST ME THAT MUCH... IT'S NOT FAIR TO ME...!!! I'M NOT EXACTLY A GOOD GUY, YOU KNOW...!!!" In close-ups Buggy laughs and cries, thinking, "NOW, HOW DO I GET AWAY FROM THIS GUY...I GYAHAHAHA!!!" and "I'M SO GRATEFUL...!!! STRAWHAT!!!" He hands over the armband, thinking, "AND... HE'S JUST GIVING IT TO ME...!!!" and "MY HEART'S DESIRE, THE TREASURE MAP, CAPTAIN JOHN'S TREASURE MARK!!...!!!" Buggy then smashes through a wall with a massive attack, yelling "BOGE-BA-BUDOW!!!" and "IS THE QUICKEST WAY THROUGH THAT WALL!I" Luffy reacts with "HM!I" as debris flies. Large SFX "ナリゴォォン!!!!" erupts from the impact.

A massive explosion rocks the guard room as Buggy is blasted backward, arms flailing. "GE-BOOH!!!" someone yells amid the smoke and debris. A guard shouts, "ALL RIGHT, LEAVE IT TO ME!!!" while another screams "NOOOOOO!" in panic. Two figures tumble through the wreckage. Guards react in shock: "WHO'S THAT!I THERE ARE TWO OF THEM!!" "THAT'S THE ESCAPING BUGGY THE CLOWN AND..." "WHO ARE THESE GUYS...!I" A voice yells "STOP, STRAWHAT!!!" as the chaos spills into the ruined corridor. The scene shows the guard room in ruins with a figure in a striped outfit sprawled amid rubble. "THIS IS THE WORST PLACE TO BE!!!" a voice cries. Another notes, "THIS IS... THE GUARD'S ROOM...!!! SO..."

The escapees crash into an enormous underground forest. "THERE'S A FOREST... IN THE PRISON!!I" someone exclaims as rocks and dust fly. A monitor voice reports, "MONITOR ROOM!! THERE REALLY IS ANOTHER GUY!! RIGHT NOW THEY ARE..." Luffy stares in disbelief: "WHERE'S THIS!I" The forest is revealed to be deadly blade trees with leaves sharp as knives. "THEY'RE BLADE TREES. THE LEAVES ON THE TREES CUT YOU LIKE KNIVES," a prisoner explains. Luffy shouts, "THE FOREST IS ALL RED...!!! AND THERE'S A BUNCH OF PEOPLE DOWN THERE." Prisoners flee through the crimson foliage, chased by poisonous spiders and jailers. "THE PRISONERS ARE CHASED BY POISONOUS SPIDERS AND JAILERS ALL AROUND THE FOREST, CUT BY THE LEAVES AND GRASS, STAINING THE FOREST WITH THEIR BLOOD," the narration continues. "SUFFERING FROM BEING SLICED ALL OVER...!!!" The grass below is needle needle grass that pierces like needles.

The full horror of Level 1 is revealed: countless prisoners writhe in agony among the towering blade trees and needle grass, chained and bleeding. "THIS IS IMPEL DOWN!!!" Luffy realizes. "THIS IS LEVEL 1, THE CRIMSON HELL!!!" Prisoners scream in pain: "IT'S REALLY HELL...!!!" "IT'S THE PAAAIN...!!" "IT HUUUURTS...!!" "HELP ME-" "HELP- HAAH- AAAHH-" Luffy thinks, "THIS IS WHAT ACE IS GOING THROUGH TOOI" Below, Buggy plummets through the deadly foliage. "THROW MY FEET TO THE GROUND!!!" he yells. "I CAN'T BE CUT!!!" "JUST BE QUIET AND HOLD ON!!" a small figure replies. "WHAT!I WE'RE GOING TO GET CUT UP!!!" Buggy panics as the razor leaves slice around him. "RIGHT, THIS IS GOOD!! JUST KEEP FALLING LIKE THIS!!!"

Buggy tumbles wildly through the slashing blade leaves. "BUUN!" a small sound effect marks his spin. Observers on a ledge react: "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT...!I" Buggy yells, "LIWAH, THAT WAS CLOSE!!" as he narrowly avoids being sliced. He laughs triumphantly, "KYAHAHA-HAHA, IF MY FEET ARE ON THE GROUND, I'M LAUGHING!!!" while the deadly grass and trees continue to cut at the falling prisoners below. The forest floor is a storm of motion lines and impact effects as the escapees descend deeper into the Crimson Hell.

Prisoners spot a hole in the ground. "LOOK, RIGHT HERE!! EVEN THOUGH NOBODY EVER USES IT..." "AN ESCAPE ROUTE FROM HELL!I" Luffy and Buggy stand at the edge. Luffy declares, "I REMEMBERED THAT IN ORDER TO ESCAPE THE CRIMSON HELL, THEY PREPARED AN ESCAPE ROUTE. WE'RE GOING DOWN FROM THIS FLOOR, BUT WE DON'T NEED STAIRS!! WE WON'T NEED THE KEY FOR THE GATE!!" They leap into the dark shaft. "LIWAH!! IT'S TOTALLY BLACK!!" "THERE ARE PLENTY OF GUYS WHO HOPE TO ESCAPE TO THE SURFACE. BUT THERE ISN'T A BIG ENOUGH IDIOT WHO WOULD WILLINGLY GO THE OTHER WAY!!" "AND THAT'S BECAUSE THE ESCAPE ROUTE GOES DOWN TO LEVEL 2...!!! IT'S CONNECTED TO AN EVEN MORE FEARSOME HELL!!!" Far below, a tiny figure plummets. "AH!! HEY!!!" "YO!" Luffy grins at the bottom. "YEAH... BUT DOWN THERE... I SEE! THIS IS GREAT!! WE CAN JUST FLY DOWN!!"

Luffy plummets alone through the shaft. "ISN'T HE AFRAID OF ANYTHING...I" "WHAT AN IMPATIENT BASTARD....!!" "BUT ANYWAY..." "HEY!! IT'S DEEP. I WONDER WHAT'S DOWN HERE." Buggy clings to the wall higher up. A massive striped beast with an axe roars below. "WHO'S GONNA SHOW YOU THE WAY NOW!I SEE YA LATER, STRAWHAT!! GO TO LEVEL 3 OR 4 AND DIE!! GYAAAHAHA-HAHA!! I MANAGED TO GET AWAY!! AND NOW I FINALLY HAVE MY HEART'S DESIRE, THE TREASURE MARK!!" Buggy laughs, "GURUFU... NOW... IF I RUN, HE CAN'T COME AFTER ME..." The beast lunges. "HMI IT APPEARS THAT THE TWO OF THEM HAVE FALLEN TO LEVEL 2. PLEASE CONFIRM!!!" Buggy is struck. "BLUGORI!! IDIOTS!! YOU CAN'T EVER CUT ME, I'M A SPLIT SPLIT MAN! NU!!!"

Massive jaws snap in the darkness. "GYAAA! GYAAA!!!" "VARU-RURU-RURU!!!" A chained prisoner in stripes sweats as beasts prowl the stone corridors. "...!!!" "ARE THEY ALL HUNGRY....!!!I" "...WHAT!!I THE BEASTS ARE WILDER THAN USUAL." The narration box reads: "Sea Floor Prison Impel Down Level 2 The Floor of Demon Beasts". A stern man with glasses and a scar speaks grimly. "I DON'T EVEN HAVE THE ENERGY TO BE AFRAID ANYMORE....!!! WE'RE ALL JUST GONNA BE EATEN BY THOSE BEASTS EVENTUALLY....!!!"
