Log Pose

A massive, crudely painted Straw Hat jolly roger now covers the front of Laboon's scarred head. The skull and crossbones are drawn with thick, uneven lines, and jagged lines radiate outward from the design, covering the whale's previous scars. Laboon lets out a low sound, "BUOOHH". In the foreground, Luffy stands on Laboon's head, holding a giant paintbrush dripping with black paint. He has his arms crossed and a satisfied expression on his face. He declares loudly, "THIS WILL BE A SIGN OF OUR PROMISE TO FIGHT AGAIN!" and then adds, "AND... DONE!"

Laboon is shown in full view, the giant jolly roger prominent on his head. Luffy yells up to him, "BY THE TIME WE COME BACK, YOU HEAR!? SO DON'T YOU BASH YOUR HEAD AGAINST THE WALL AND MAKE IT DISAPPEAR," Laboon replies with a deep "BUOOHHH." Luffy smiles broadly, "GOOD!" Crocus watches the interaction with a slight, knowing smile. Meanwhile, on the deck of the Going Merry, Zoro is sleeping soundly, snoring "ZZZZ". Usopp is sweating and hammering away at the ship's broken railing, complaining loudly, "HEY, I COULD USE A LITTLE HELP OVER HERE, ZORO! HOW COULD THAT IDIOT JUST DESTROY OUR SHIP! I AIN'T NO SHIPWRIGHT, YOU KNOW!" Nearby, Sanji is happily preparing food, holding a large piece of meat on a bone, "THIS ELEPHANT TROUT IS JUST PERFECT FOR COOKING!" Nami sits at a table with a map spread out before her, stating, "ALRIGHT THEN, TIME TO CHART OUT OUR NAVIGATION ROUTE."

A piercing scream shatters the peace: "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" In the background, Laboon splashes playfully in the water near the lighthouse. On the ship, Usopp, startled by the scream, drops his hammer and sighs, "UGH... I'LL TAKE A BRIEF BREAK FROM THE SHIP REPAIRS AND EAT." Sanji rushes over to the table carrying a plate of food, asking with concern, "IF IT'S ABOUT THE MEAL, THEN IT'S ALL READY! <3 WHAT'S THE MATTER, MY DEAR NAMI!?" Luffy, holding a large piece of meat, looks over casually, "WHAT? YOU'RE BEING SO NOISY." Nami is standing at the table, pointing frantically at a compass. She yells, "IT'S BROKEN! IT'S POINTING ALL OVER THE PLACE! THE COMPASS...!" A close-up shows the compass needle spinning wildly in circles. Crocus observes the commotion from a distance.

Crocus explains calmly to the crew, "I'VE SAID BEFORE THAT COMMON SENSE FAILS TO UPHOLD IN THIS OCEAN. THAT COMPASS ISN'T BROKEN." Sanji tells Luffy, "IN YOUR CASE, IT'S TIME FOR FEEDING." Luffy, drooling over his food, says, "AH, TIME FOR FOOD?" Crocus continues, "HMM.. IT APPEARS YOU'VE COME HERE WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING. I'M QUITE AMAZED. DID YOU COME HERE TO JUST THROW YOUR LIVES AWAY?" A diagram illustrates a compass needle spinning erratically over a cluster of islands. Crocus elaborates, "DUE TO MANY ISLANDS HERE BEING RICH WITH VARIOUS MINERALS. YES... THERE EXISTS A GEOMAGNETIC ANOMALY ACROSS GRAND LINE," Nami, looking worried, asks, "THEN IS IT... THE MAGNETIC FIELD!?" Crocus confirms, "NOT ONLY THAT, THE CURRENTS AND THE WINDS HERE ARE AS UNPREDICTABLE AS THEY CAN BE. AS A NAVIGATOR, YOU SHOULD WELL UNDERSTAND HOW TERRIFYING THAT CAN BE. IF YOU VENTURE OUT INTO THIS OCEAN WITHOUT KNOWING ANYTHING, YOU'LL DIE FOR SURE." Nami looks downcast, "TRUE... WITHOUT A RELIABLE WAY TO TELL ONE'S DIRECTIONS, IT'S ALL HOPELESS."

Luffy happily devours a massive chunk of meat, exclaiming with his mouth full, "THIS ELEPHANT TROUT TRUNK IS ESPECIALLY DELICIOUS!" Nami, frustrated by their lack of concern, yells at him and Sanji, "YOU TWO JUST QUIET DOWN!" Luffy asks, "HUH? JUST WHAT ABOUT THIS FISH IS BAD?" Sanji swoons over Nami's anger, "AH, NAMI'S SO CUTE EVEN WHEN SHE DOESN'T KNOW! <3" Usopp panics, "WHAT!? ISN'T THAT LIKE REALLY REALLY BAD? ARE WE GONNA BE OK!?" Nami admits quietly, "I... HAD NO IDEA." Crocus states, "TO NAVIGATE THROUGH GRAND LINE, YOU'LL NEED A LOG POSE." Nami looks confused, "A LOG POSE? I'VE NEVER HEARD OF IT." Sanji holds up his wrist, showing a device strapped to it, "YOU MEAN SOMETHING LIKE THIS?" Luffy confirms, "YES, THAT'S IT." Nami looks at it, "SO IT'S A WEIRD-LOOKING COMPASS?" Crocus explains, "IT'S A SPECIAL TYPE OF COMPASS THAT RECORDS THE MAGNETIC FIELD."

Nami furiously punches both Sanji and Luffy on the head, yelling, "WHY THE HECK DO YOU HAVE ONE!?" Sanji, rubbing his bruised head, says, "I SEE, BUT HANG ON JUST A SECOND..." Crocus continues his explanation, "OF COURSE, IT IS QUITE HARD TO OBTAIN ONE OUTSIDE GRAND LINE. WITHOUT A LOG POSE, IT'D BE IMPOSSIBLE TO NAVIGATE ON THIS OCEAN." Nami examines the Log Pose closely; it's a spherical glass dome containing a needle suspended in liquid, strapped to a wristband. "SO THIS IS A LOG POSE... THERE'S NO MARKING ON IT OR ANYTHING..." She asks Sanji, "WHY'D YOU HIT ME?" Sanji replies, "JUST FELT I HAD TO. OH." Luffy points, "THEM? THOSE TWO WEIRDOS FROM EARLIER, ACCIDENTALLY LEFT IT ON OUR SHIP." Crocus explains further, "THE VARIOUS ISLANDS ACROSS GRAND LINE, ALL HAVE THEIR OWN MAGNETIC FIELDS SURROUNDING THEM. SO IN SHORT, YOU'LL HAVE TO RECORD THE MAGNETIC FIELD INTERACTION BETWEEN ANY TWO ISLANDS, BEFORE YOU CAN PROGRESS ON TO THE NEXT ISLAND." A diagram shows the Log Pose recording magnetic fields as a ship travels between islands.

Crocus continues his detailed explanation, "IN THIS OCEAN WHERE ONE CAN'T USE ANY NORMAL MEANS OF PATH-FINDING, THIS LOG POSE REPRESENTS THE ONLY RELIABLE WAY FOR ONE TO FIND HIS WAY. FROM THIS MOUNTAIN, YOU'LL CHOOSE 1 OUT OF 7 MAGNETIC FIELDS TO RECORD, WHICH'LL LEAD YOU TO DIFFERENT ISLANDS." A map illustrates seven distinct, winding paths originating from Reverse Mountain, crossing the Grand Line, and eventually converging into a single point. "BUT NO MATTER WHICH ISLAND YOU START WITH, THE PATHS WILL ALL CONVERGE INTO ONE EVENTUALLY... AND THE NAME OF THE VERY LAST ISLAND ONE CAN REACH IN GRAND LINE IS... RAFTEL, THE FINAL STOP IN GRAND LINE. THE ONLY ONES WHO'VE EVER CONFIRMED ITS EXISTENCE IN HISTORY IS THE PIRATE KING AND HIS CREW. IT IS AN ISLAND OF LEGENDS."

Usopp's jaw drops in shock as he realizes the implication, "ONE PIECE IS ON THAT ISLAND!?" Sanji, smoking a cigarette, adds thoughtfully, "THEN DOES THAT MEAN..." Crocus replies cryptically, "WHO KNOWS. ALTHOUGH THAT IS THE MOST LIKELY THEORY, NOBODY HAS EVER REACHED THERE TO CONFIRM IT." Luffy breaks into a wide, excited grin, his eyes shining with anticipation. "ENOUGH THINKING. WE CAN SEE FOR OURSELVES ONCE WE'RE THERE!"

Nami smiles confidently, looking at the Log Pose now strapped to her wrist. "ALRIGHT, LOG POSE... I'LL MAKE SURE TO TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOU. THE FATE OF OUR JOURNEY IS ALL UP TO YOU, AFTER ALL." Suddenly, Usopp yells in horror, "AGHHH! EVEN THE BONES ARE GONE!" Sanji angrily confronts Luffy, "DID YOU JUST EAT EVERYTHING ALL BY YOURSELF!?" Luffy, looking stuffed and satisfied, replies casually, "I'M FINISHED EATING AND ALL. AHHH... SHOULD WE GET GOING NOW?" Sanji furiously kicks Luffy in the face, yelling, "WHY YOU RUBBER CRAP HEAD! THAT FOOD WAS... WAS... FOR NAMI TO ENJOY!" The powerful kick sends Luffy flying backward with an "AGH!". He crashes violently into the table where Nami is sitting, smashing it to pieces in a cloud of dust. Nami looks up in surprise, "HUH?"

Sanji realizes his terrible mistake and freezes in terror. Nami glares at him with a menacing, forced smile, cracking her knuckles ominously. Sanji tries to tip-toe away quietly. In the next panel, a massive splash erupts from the sea as Nami throws both Sanji and Luffy into the water. She yells furiously, "YOU TWO CAN JUST GO COOL YOUR HEADS DOWN IN THE SEA!" Luffy and Sanji flail in the water, yelling "BUGAH!" and "AGHH!" as they sink.

Crocus says to the crew, "DON'T WORRY. I'LL GIVE YOU ONE AS A SIGN OF THANKS FOR THE MATTER WITH LABOON." Usopp, crying comically, yells, "AHHH! WASN'T THAT COMPASS, LIKE, SUPER-DUPER IMPORTANT!?" Nami worries, "WHAT DO WE DO, CROCUS!? OUR PRECIOUS LOG POSE IS...!" Meanwhile, Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 are shown hiding behind some rocks. Miss Wednesday scolds him, "HOW COULD YOU HAVE BEEN SO CARELESS TO ACCIDENTALLY DROP OUR PRECIOUS LOG POSE!" Mr. 9 apologizes, "I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE FOR MY ERR, MISS WEDNESDAY. I KNOW WELL THAT WE CAN'T RETURN BACK TO OUR TOWN WITHOUT IT." Miss Wednesday asks, "WELL? CAN YOU SEE THEM, MR.9?" Mr. 9 replies, "...I CAN'T REALLY MAKE OUT WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED JUST NOW BUT... I THINK THAT WOMAN HAS OUR LOG POSE." Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday conclude that they are overdue in their mission, have lost their weapons, and must take the Log Pose back by force.

Miss Wednesday looks up in horror, sweating profusely, "OH NO, WE'RE TOO LATE!" Mr. 9 looks confused, "!?" Miss Wednesday continues, "IT CAN'T BE... THAT'S... THE UNLUCKIES!" A large vulture wearing aviator goggles and a sea otter wearing a matching helmet fly overhead. Text boxes identify them: "MYSTERIOUS SEA OTTER MR.13" and "MYSTERIOUS VULTURE MS. FRIDAY". Miss Wednesday yells up at them frantically, "MR. 13! MISS FRIDAY!" Mr. 9 stammers nervously, "W-WE WERE JUST ON OUR WAY BACK TO MAKE A REPORT TO THE BOSS! WE HAVEN'T BETRAYED THE ORGANIZATION...!" Miss Wednesday adds, "NO WAIT! THERE'S A PERFECTLY GOOD REASON WHY WE'RE LATE! IT'S ALL BECAUSE THOSE DAMN PIRATES INTERFERED...!"

The sea otter, Mr. 13, sitting on the vulture's back, drops a bomb with a lit fuse. Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 look on in terror as the bomb falls towards them. The bomb explodes violently on the rocky shore, sending debris flying. The vulture, Ms. Friday, screeches "GYAAAAA!" as it flies away from the explosion.

Luffy, Sanji, and Nami burst out of the water, gasping for air ("DOBAGHH!", "GASP!", "GASP!", "GASP!"). They are soaking wet and panting heavily. Nearby, Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday also emerge from the water, coughing and covered in soot from the explosion. Sanji notices them, "HM?" Mr. 9, looking battered, says, "I HAVE A REQUEST." Sanji responds, "HEY!" Mr. 9 turns to his partner, "MISS WEDNESDAY." Miss Wednesday offers her hand, "YOUR HAND, WHY THANK YOU."

Nami asks, "WHISKEY PEAK? WHAT'S THAT?" Miss Wednesday explains, "IT'S... THE NAME OF OUR TOWN." Nami clarifies, "SO YOU WANT US TO TAKE YOU THERE BECAUSE YOU LOST YOUR SHIP?" Mr. 9 proudly states, "I'M A KING." Nami bluntly replies, "LIAR." Usopp questions them suspiciously, "JUST WHO ARE YOU GUYS ANYWAYS?" Sanji adds, "ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING YOU TRIED TO KILL THE WHALE AND ALL." Miss Wednesday insists, "WE CANNOT SAY!" Nami says, "MR.9? DON'T YOU THINK THAT'S ASKING A BIT TOO MUCH," Suddenly, Mr. 9 and Miss Wednesday prostrate themselves on the ground, bowing deeply. Mr. 9 begs, "BUT PLEASE! PLEASE TAKE US BACK TO OUR TOWN AND WE SWEAR WE'LL RETURN THE FAVOUR!"

Crocus advises the crew, "DON'T LISTEN TO THEM. THEY'RE NOTHING BUT TROUBLE." Miss Wednesday, still bowing, says, "AND SO WE ABSOLUTELY CANNOT TELL YOU ANYTHING MORE. PLEASE HELP US OUT FROM THE KINDNESS OF YOUR HEARTS...!" Mr. 9 adds, "WE'D REALLY RATHER NOT KEEP THINGS HUSH-HUSH ABOUT EVERYTHING, BUT 'MYSTERY' IS OUR ORGANIZATION'S MOTTO." Nami says, "WELL... WE ACCIDENTALLY BROKE OUR LOG POSE," She then asks, "BUT DO YOU STILL WANT A RIDE?" Miss Wednesday yells in shock, "W-WHAT!? YOU BROKE IT!? AND ISN'T THAT OURS!?" Mr. 9 yells angrily, "HOW DARE YOU TRY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR MISFORTUNE WHEN YOU'RE JUST AS MISFORTUNATE AS WE ARE!?" Nami cheerfully adds, "OH RIGHT! I FORGOT TO MENTION THAT CROCUS HERE GAVE US ANOTHER LOG POSE." Miss Wednesday immediately changes her tune, "WE BESEECH YOUR KINDNESS, MADAM..." Mr. 9 thinks to himself, "DAMN THIS WOMAN! SHE WAS TOYING WITH US!" Luffy casually agrees, "OK. THEY CAN COME ALONG IF THEY WANT."

Nami checks the new Log Pose on her wrist. "YUP! IT'S POINTING TOWARDS WHISKEY PEAK." Crocus asks, "IS IT PROPERLY POINTING TOWARDS A PLACE INDICATED ON THE MAP?" He then confirms, "ALRIGHT THEN... YOUR LOG SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECORDED BY NOW." The Going Merry is shown ready to set sail. Crocus questions the decision, "THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN CHOOSE WHICH ROUTE YOU WANT TO TAKE IS HERE, YOU KNOW. YOU SURE ABOUT THIS, KID? PICKING WHISKEY PEAK ALL JUST BECAUSE OF THESE RUFFIANS..." Nami confidently replies, "IT'S FINE. IF I DON'T LIKE THE ROUTE, I CAN ALWAYS SAIL ONCE AROUND AND CHOOSE A DIFFERENT ROUTE." Luffy waves goodbye, "THANKS FOR THE LOG POSE!" He adds, "BYE THEN, FLOWER GRAMPS. SEE YA THEN." On the ship, Miss Wednesday and Mr. 9 snicker maliciously, "PUKUKUKU! IDIOTIC PIRATES...!" Crocus watches them, thinking, "I SEE...."

The Going Merry sails away from Reverse Mountain. Laboon the giant whale rises from the water, roaring loudly, "BUOOHHHHH!" Luffy stands on the ship's figurehead, yelling back, "WE'RE GOING NOW, WHALE!" Crocus watches the ship depart, a serious expression on his face. He thinks to himself, "PERHAPS THEY'RE THE PIRATES WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR... THAT CAPTAIN HAS GOT QUITE A MYSTERIOUS AURA ABOUT HIM. WHAT DO YOU THINK, ROGER...?"
