Luffy and the Impel Down escapees are still trapped in a falling battleship inside the giant frozen wave. Someone screams, "What the heck just happened!!?" and another shouts, "What are we doing up here!!?" A prisoner explains, "I don't know!! We suddenly got picked up by some stupidly huge wave and then the ocean surface suddenly froze over and the ship got stuck in it!!" Jinbe tells them, "Take a look down there. You'll see the answer." They realize, "Old man!! It would seem the war is already underway!!!" Luffy refuses to stop, saying, "Listen up, guys!!! I have an idea, and it's gonna get us out of this!! We can't let this stop us when we've got this far! There are only three hours left until Ace's execution!!!"

Luffy's plan is to ride the ship down the frozen wave. The escapees yell, "Whaaat!!? Slide down this frozen wave, ship and all!?" and ask if he is out of his mind because this is a battleship and there is no way to move it. Luffy answers, "It's our only chance!!! First of all, we've gotta get the ship unstuck from this ice!! If we all work together, we can do it!!!" Buggy suddenly takes heart and says, "I...!! I suddenly have the feeling I can do this...!!" while his followers shout, "Yeah! We have Captain Buggy, the man who's going to rule the world, on our side!!!" At the same time, a Marine strategy transmission calls all ships and troops: "Objective TOTTZ! Change formation and prepare for General Strategy 3! Preparations are to be executed flawlessly! Once preparations are made, we will be executing Ace before the scheduled time!" Luffy hears only fragments and reacts, "Wha?"

Luffy and the escapees shout, "We've gotta hurry~!!!" as the ship finally breaks free with huge cracking SFX. The battleship slides down the frozen wave, but the descent goes wrong. The passengers panic, crying "Aaaa-aaghhh...!!" and shouting, "The other way! The other way!!" and "We're gonna fall--!!" The page is driven by motion and sound effects as the ship tips away from the intended path, turning Luffy's improvised rescue plan into a barely controlled plunge toward Marineford.

Ace looks up from the execution platform and sees the falling ship. The Marines and pirates below also notice the shadow and the screaming voices from above. The battleship drops between the ice, the warships and the frozen wave, landing with a tremendous splash and impact SFX. The huge crash splits the water open and sends waves and broken ice outward. The page contains little dialogue beyond Ace's alarmed reaction, but it marks Luffy's chaotic entrance into the Marineford battlefield.

Fighters on both sides stop to stare at the crash site. Marines yell, "What just happened!?" and "Did a battleship just fall out of the sky!?" while Whitebeard and Aokiji silently register the impossible arrival. In the water, the escapees cough and complain: "Th... the ocean!!! Thank god, we fell into the ocean!" "I thought we were gonna smash straight into the ice and die!!" and "Why is this the only spot not covered in ice!?" The ship floats in the narrow open-water gap, battered but intact, with the prisoners still alive after their wild descent.

The escapees begin climbing from the water, with someone yelling, "Up! Get up on the ice!" and another comparing the ocean to prison: "This water's nothing compared to the water torture back in hell!" Crocodile mutters, "Honestly, these fruit users..." as Devil Fruit users struggle in the water. Luffy spots the execution platform and roars, "A~~ce~~~!!! ...!!! I finally found you!!!" Ace cries back, "Luffy!!!" Marines nearby shout, "No time to be dwelling on just him!! Who the hell are these guys!?" and someone recognizes Crocodile, saying, "Oi!! That can't be... Crocodile!!?"

Luffy and the Impel Down escapees stand revealed before Marineford. Ivankov, Crocodile, Jinbe, Buggy, Mr. 3 and the prisoners gather around Luffy as he declares to Ace, "We're here to save you!!!" Buggy laughs, "Gyahahahaha!!! Are you ready for me, world!!?" while another observer says, "So this is a battle of the great powers!! Certainly a force to be reckoned with!!!" Their arrival is absurd, loud and impossible to ignore, throwing a third force onto the battlefield just as the Marines are preparing their operation.

Sengoku explodes in anger and shouts, "Luffy~!!!" then turns on Garp: "Garp!! Is that another member of your family!!?" Marines identify the new arrivals: "Jinbe!! Crocodile!! Even Ivankov of the Revolutionary Army!!!" and "It's the escaped convicts from Impel Down!!" Another Marine says to look behind them, because the rest are all pirates who used to be plenty infamous themselves. Mihawk watches and says, "You never fail to make a scene worth witnessing... Strawhat..." Moria hisses in fury, while Hancock clasps her hands and thinks, "Luffy...!! It is such a relief to see you safe...!!!" Other Marines ask what Luffy is doing in a place like this and say that is not his usual crew.

Helmeppo points toward the battlefield and shouts, "Look, Helmeppo-san!! Over there!" as Coby realizes, "Strawhat~!!? Even though I heard he had been captured at Impel Down...!! He really is... just incredible!!!" Kuma, Kizaru and Aokiji all react to the new alliance. Kizaru smiles, "To think that we'd see each other again so soon~!" Kuma notes, "That's certainly some group you've got there..." Doflamingo laughs, "Current and former Shichibukai all gathered here...!! Fuffuffu... And then... him... The outrageous rookie everyone's been talking about... Strawhat...!!!" Marco guesses, "That must be the brother Ace was talking about!" while Smoker and Tashigi see both Straw Hat and Crocodile and wonder what kind of alliance this is. Meanwhile a Marine reminds everyone, "This is no time to be distracted!!!"

Akainu identifies Luffy and says, "So that is him... Grandson of Garp the hero... and son of Dragon... That is one pirate who most certainly needs to be eliminated..." The fallen ship rests in the open water before the battlefield. Sengoku sees Jinbe and shouts, "So this is your answer, is it, Jinbe...?" Jinbe answers firmly, "Indeed! I resign as a Shichibukai!!!" His words make clear that his loyalty now stands against the World Government, beside Luffy and the effort to save Ace.

Whitebeard examines the group and says, "That's a screwed-up team if I ever saw one... It barely seems possible that they all share a common objective... particularly on this battlefield..." Ivankov asks, "Where is Croco-boy?" just as Crocodile lunges toward Whitebeard. Someone yells, "Crocodile is after Whitebeard!!!" and Ivankov notices, "Over there!!! Why, that little... trying to steal my glory...!!!" Crocodile calls out, "It's been a while, Whitebeard!" but Luffy intercepts him and shouts, "Old man!!!" stopping Crocodile's immediate attack before it can reach Whitebeard.

Luffy kicks Crocodile away from Whitebeard, and Crocodile snaps, "We had an arrangement, did we not!? Why do you defend Whitebeard?" Luffy answers, "So this guy really is Whitebeard, huh? Then you're not touching him! This is the one guy Ace really cares about!" Whitebeard studies Luffy and realizes, "That brother of Ace's isn't half bad..." He then notices the straw hat and remembers Shanks. In East Blue, Shanks once showed Whitebeard Luffy's wanted poster and said, "Check it out, old man! This kid is my brother!" Whitebeard asks, "Boy... that straw hat you wear... Oh, hey! You know Shanks, huh? It bears a strong resemblance to the hat Red Hair once wore..." Luffy says, "I'm borrowing this hat from him!" and Whitebeard asks, "Are you here to save your brother?" Luffy answers, "That's right!" while Whitebeard thinks, "What manner of enemy took that left arm from you?" and remembers Shanks saying, "Oh, this...? I bet it on a new age..."

Whitebeard sizes Luffy up and warns, "I hope you understand who you're up against. You will simply be throwing your life away!!" Luffy fires back, "Shut up!!! It's not your job to decide that!!! I've heard about you... You want to be the Pirate King, right!!? Well, the one who's gonna be the Pirate King is me!!!" Ivankov panics, "He's competing with Whitebeard...!!!" while others freeze at Luffy's nerve. On the side, Tsuru asks, "Dear me... May I assume that all of these intruders may be executed, Sengoku-san...?" and Sengoku answers, "Naturally!!!" Luffy stays crouched at Whitebeard's feet and tells him, "I'll do this however I damn well want!! I'm saving Ace myself!!! You'd better not get in my way, green-horn!!!" Whitebeard grins and mutters, "...Well, I'll be damned..."
