THE 3 COOKS

The same colorful scene repeats: Luffy happily eats his giant apple in the foreground. Nami drinks from her glass on the apple slice. The headband cook pours from the bottle with an angry expression. The spiky-haired man relaxes on the branch. Large red apples and green foliage fill the vibrant background.

The Baratie, a grand ship-shaped restaurant, floats on the sea with waves around it and a sign reading RESTAURANT OF THE SEAS, “BARATIE”. Luffy appears in close-up, pointing forward with a determined glare, declaring “TO JUST 1 WEEK.” and “CUT IT DOWN,”. Below, the mustached head chef Zeff glares back furiously and retorts “AND THEN MAKE IT UP BY ONLY WORKING 1 WEEK WITHOUT PAY…I” and “WHAT DID YOU SAY PUNKI YOU THINK YOU CAN DESTROY MY RESTAURANT WITH A CANNONBALL, LEAVE ME CRITICALLY INJURED,”.

Inside the damaged Baratie, Luffy and Zeff argue intensely. Luffy pleads “I’LL WORK JUST 1 WEEK AND THEN YOU’LL FORGIVE ME!” while Zeff refuses “I’M NOT WAITING ANOTHER YEAR!” “NO! I WAITED 10 YEARS JUST TO FINALLY BECOME A PIRATE!” and “YOU’RE WORKING 1 YEAR AND THAT’S FINAL! GOT ITI”. Zeff then delivers a powerful “HEAD CHEF’S KICK OF JUSTICE!!!” sending Luffy flying with “OFU!”. Luffy counters “JUST WHO GAVE YOU THE RIGHT TO DECIDE!I TAKE THIS,”. Zeff insists “THEN I’LL TELL YOU A FASTER WAY TO GET OUT OF HERE.” and “ALRIGHT, KID. IF YOU’RE SO READY TO GET OUT FOR TIME,” while Luffy yells “LOOK, YOU’RE PERFECTLY FINE.” “SHUT UP!” “I’M THE ONE WHO’LL DECIDE WHETHER I FORGIVE YOU OR NOT!”.

Luffy stands with a massive, carefree grin stretching across his face, eyes wide and sparkling with excitement beneath the brim of his straw hat. His black hair sticks out wildly and a scar marks his left cheek as he looks straight ahead, radiating pure enthusiasm in the otherwise empty white space of the page.

Zeff glares down with a fierce scowl, gripping a massive knife as he growls, "YOU'LL HAVE TO LEAVE BEHIND, ONE OF YOUR LEGS!" Luffy, back to the viewer in his straw hat, refuses firmly. "DON'T THINK YOU CAN MAKE IT IN THIS WORLD BY ONLY SAYING NO, YOU LITTLE BRAT!" Zeff retorts while a bystander wonders if the boy is dumb. Luffy stands his ground, replying he isn't budging. Zeff then launches a devastating spinning kick, sending Luffy flying with a loud impact as the head chef yells "HEAD CHEF DROP KICK!" Luffy crashes hard, crying out in pain.

Patty, the towering cook of the Baratie, looms in the hallway with an intense glare, plucking a hair while declaring "SERVICE IS LOVE! LOVE IS LOVE THIS RESTAURANT!" and "ARE GODS!" A small sign identifies him as "BARATIE'S COOK, PATTY." In the background a nervous customer peeks from a doorway as Patty continues chanting "SERVICE MOTTO! MOTTO, MOTTO!" The restaurant's restroom sign is visible behind him.

Zeff welcomes a squid-faced customer with a wide grin, shouting "WELCOME, YOU SQUID-FACED BASTARD!" Nearby in the restroom he politely tells another patron "IS A KIND AND PLEASANT WELCOME! AND THE FOUNDATIONS OF GOOD SERVICE." The customer replies with a strained smile. Zeff then roars at someone, "THAT'LL COME TO 10,000 BELIS!" and "PARDON ME, DUMBASS," followed by "PLEASE NEVER COME BACK AGAIN!" Meanwhile Patty strides through the hall repeating the restaurant motto "SERVICE MOTTO! THE CUSTOMERS ARE GODS! MOTTO, MOTTO!" and happily notes "I FEEL GREAT AGAIN TODAY!" after a good dump.

Inside the Baratie dining hall, chaos erupts as a massive impact shakes the room. "ナガーン!!" "あああああ" The customer is being...!!! someone shouts in alarm. "WHAT!I" Sanji stands over the fallen marine lieutenant Fullbody, who is sprawled on the floor. Sanji grabs Fullbody by the head, cigarette in mouth. "DON'T CALL MY NAME SO CASUALLY LIKE THAT." Fullbody looks up, "HMI OH, IT'S JUST YOU, THE SHITTY COOK." A furious chef yells from the side, "YOU AGAIN, SANJI!I THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING TO OUR CUSTOMER!I" Fullbody roars back, "I AIN'T GONNA STAND BY AND LET A SHITTY COOK CALL ME A SHITTY COOK! NOT ONLY THAT, THAT MAN'S ALSO A MARINE LIEUTENANT!"

Sanji exhales smoke calmly. "I WAS ONLY TEACHING HIM A LESSON. SO WHAT IF HE'S THE CUSTOMERI HE DARED TO WASTE OUR PRECIOUS FOOD AND INSULTED A COOK!" Fullbody explodes in rage, "JUST HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN YOU INJURING OUR PRECIOUS CUSTOMERI IT'S A RESTAURANT'S DUTY TO SERVE ITS CUSTOMERS!" Fullbody threatens, "I'LL CLOSE THE RESTAURANT! I'LL REPORT THIS PLACE TO THE GOVERNMENT!" Nearby patrons react in shock. "NO, STOP!" "W-WHA...!I" Sanji stares coldly, "WELL, THEN I GUESS I HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO KILL YOU RIGHT NOW. YOU'RE GOING TO REPORT US, ARE YOU NOW...I" "ズイ...."

Sanji launches a powerful kick at Fullbody. "ガバっっ!!" "TO SEE A DAMN SPOILED SON OF A BITCH LIKE YOU!" "STOP, SANJI! YOU'VE WENT TOO FAR!" "GOD, IT JUST GETS ME SO ANGRY..." Fullbody is slammed hard. "W-WHAT'S WITH THIS GUY!I" "ACK!" "JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU ARE!I" The fight spills violently; Fullbody crashes through the floor into the lower level. "WHAT IS IT THIS TIME!I" "アグハハハハハ!" Debris flies as the marine lieutenant is driven downward.

The ceiling of the Baratie cracks open from the impact. "どよ どよ" "SHIT! THE CEILING OF MY BEAUTIFUL RESTAURANT IS...!" "S-SIR, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!I" Fullbody groans, "UGH..." Luffy appears, peeking through the hole with a grin. "THIS DESTROYED IT YOURSELF! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT, YOU DAMN BRAT!" "WHEW, THAT SCARED THE CRAP OUTTA ME." Zeff and other cooks rush in. "IT'S EXACTLY AS IT SEEMS, SIR! AND THIS TIME, SANJI BEAT UP SOME IDIOT MARINE LIEUTENANT!" "SHUT UP, YOU SHITTY GEEZER..." "SANJI! ARE YOU RUNNING WILD IN MY RESTAURANT AGAIN...I" "HMMI" "SIR! PLEASE STOP SANJI FOR US!"

Luffy stares in shock at the brawl unfolding before him. "AH, ISN'T THAT THE GUY WHO FIRED THE CANNONBALL EARLIERI" he blurts. "WHY'S HE ALL BLOODIED-UP...I" The braided-haired owner of the restaurant, Zeff, has the bloodied pirate in a crushing grip and roars, "ARE YOU TRYING TO RUIN MY RESTAURANT, YOU LITTLE SHIT!I" The pirate is slammed violently into the floor as Zeff continues his assault. Nearby customers gape in horror. "E-EVEN THE OWNER OF THIS PLACE IS VIOLENT!I" one stammers. The beaten pirate howls "GYAAAAA!" A wide shot shows the restaurant in chaos, the pirate sprawled on the ground as narration reads, "THIS BARBARIC AND VIOLENT RESTAURANT IS... JUST LIKE A PIRATE SHIP!" The pirate groans, "JUST WHAT DO THEY THINK THEIR CUSTOMERS ARE!I JUST WHAT DO THEY THINK I AM!I"

Inside the kitchen area, Zeff barks at his cooks, "PATTY! SANJI! IF YOU'RE GONNA FIGHT, THEN DO IT IN THE KITCHEN!" Sanji retorts coolly, "NOT SURPRISING YOU'D CALL THEM YOUR GODS, CONSIDERING THAT THEY CAN ACTUALLY STOMACH YOUR SHITTY FOOD..." Zeff snaps back, "THE CUSTOMERS ARE OUR GODS!" The three cooks glare at one another amid loud impact sounds. Elsewhere in the dining hall a frantic waiter rushes in shouting, "IT'S AN EMERGENCY!" A marine lieutenant named Fullbody is alerted, "LIEUTENANT! LT. FULLBODY!" Luffy watches the commotion with mild surprise, thinking, "THIS PLACE IS SURE NOISY..." The marine soldier reports nervously, "HE'S ESCAPED FROM THE SHIP'S PRISON! FORGIVE ME SIR BUT..."

The marine soldier panics, "IT TOOK 7 OF US JUST TO CAPTURE HIM IN THE FIRST PLACE, BUT NOW HE'S GONE! THE UNDERLING OF PIRATE KRIEG HAS ESCAPED!" Diners react in alarm. "THE SAME PIRATE KRIEG WHOSE CREW IS SAID TO BE THE STRONGEST IN ALL OF EAST BLUE!I A MEMBER OF K-KRIEG'S CREW...!I" one customer cries. Another adds, "HE WAS ON THE VERGE OF DEATH WHEN WE CAPTURED HIM 3 DAYS AGO, NOT TO MENTION HE HASN'T HAD A SINGLE SCRAP OF FOOD SINCE THEN!" Sanji's eyes widen in disbelief, "THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE! HE SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE THE STRENGTH TO MOVE!" Outside on the deck the escaped prisoner is violently kicked through the air with a loud "DON" and a scream of "KYAAAA!" The marine pleads, "PLEASE FORG..."

The prisoner crashes through the restaurant doors and collapses in a heap as customers scream "AGHHHH!" and "KYAAAAA!" A large "COLLAPSE" sound effect echoes. Zeff stands over the fallen man while Sanji and Luffy look on. Luffy exclaims, "A PIRATEI" Zeff warns coldly, "HE BETTER NOT START ANY TROUBLE IN MY RESTAURANT." Patty adds, "ONE CUSTOMER, COMING THIS WAY." The bloodied escapee lies motionless on the floor, emitting only faint groans and ellipsis marks as the cooks and Luffy stare down at him.

Inside the Baratie restaurant, an awkward silence falls over the dining room as tension builds. Customers glance nervously toward the back. A desperate customer pleads, "ANYTHING WILL DO... JUST BRING ME SOME FOOD..." while a large speech bubble looms ominously near the counter. In the foreground, the ragged pirate customer with a striped headband sweats heavily and demands, "THIS PLACE IS A RESTAURANT, RIGHT!I" as dramatic speed lines and SFX emphasize his exhaustion and frustration.

Patty bursts in with a massive grin, flexing and shouting, "WELCOME, YOU SQUID-FACED BASTARD!" The broke pirate customer, now revealed as Gin, glares back. A flashback-style panel shows the earlier customer complaining, "IS AS GOOD AS DEAD!" and "I'M A CUSTOMER, AND AS SUCH, YOU'LL BRING ME FOOD THIS INSTANT!" while a woman reacts with shock, "W-WHAT!I" Gin then points his gun directly at Patty and growls, "SO YOU DON'T HAVE ANY MONEYI" Patty retorts, "YOU ACCEPT LEADI" and "DO YOU HAVE ANY MONEYI" before adding, "PARDON ME, DUMBASS, BUT..."

Patty delivers a devastating punch that sends Gin flying backward through the air, his gun spinning away amid massive impact SFX and debris. The force shatters part of the restaurant interior. Nearby, a shocked customer yells, "DAMN THAT PATTY, HOW DARE HE BREAK THE TABLE!" Luffy watches wide-eyed and exclaims, "WOAH, HE'S PRETTY STRONG." Other patrons react with surprise, "WHAT!I" and "OHHHH!"

The Baratie staff and customers cheer wildly as Patty stands triumphant. One shouts, "SHOW THAT PIRATE WHO'S BOSS, PATTY!" and another calls, "NICE GOING, COOK!" A woman in a dress warns, "IF YOU CAN'T PAY THE BILL, THEN YOU AIN'T NO CUSTOMER!" Gin, still on the floor, snaps back, "IF YOU'RE NOT A PAYING CUSTOMER, THEN GET THE HELL OUTTA HERE!" and "SO HURRY UP... AND BRING ME SOME FOOD, YOU BASTARD." He continues, "I'VE HAD ENOUGH...! I AIN'T EVEN GONNA GIVE YOU A SINGLE BREAD CRUMB TO A BROKE-ASS PIRATE SCUM LIKE YOU!" while kicking violently. Sanji watches silently from the side with a cigarette as the chaos peaks.

The Baratie dining hall is wrecked after the brawl. A voice booms, "PLEASE ENJOY THE REST OF YOUR MEALS!" as a massive figure swings from the rafters. Luffy stands watching while a suited man is hurled through the air amid flying debris and startled patrons. In a quiet side room, the large customer in the striped shirt lies flat on the wooden floor, stomach growling loudly with "GUURGLEEE..." and "RUMBLE...". Sanji sits nearby, cigarette in mouth, and calmly says "EAT." as he sets down a steaming bowl with a "CLUNK".

The starving customer devours the meal in huge gulps, tears streaming down his face. "I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY..." he manages between bites. Sanji watches with a slight smile. The man continues, "I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE...! I THOUGHT IT WAS ALL OVER FOR ME...!" as he shovels food in with frantic "ガツガツ" sounds. "I'M SO GRATEFUL...!" he cries. In the background Luffy grins widely and declares, "A GOOD COOK!" while Sanji replies, "IT'S DAMN GOOD, RIGHTI" The customer adds, "I'VE NEVER HAD SUCH DELICIOUS FOOD..."
