The flashback continues. A young Nami is being scolded by Genzo. He yells, "You never learn, do you, you little cat burglar!" Nami cheekily replies, "Let me go! I promise I'll pay for it next time! With my body. <3" Genzo is horrified and shouts, "Don't go around learning idiotic lines!" In the next scene, Bellemere is scolding Nami and Nojiko. "Jeez, did you two make the boys cry again?" Nojiko defends them, "But they started it!" Nami adds, "They said that Bellemere's oranges tasted bad!" A villager tries to calm her down, "It's fine, Bellemere. It's just a little kid's fight." But Bellemere is already furiously beating up the boys who insulted her oranges, yelling, "Why you little brat!" while the villagers cry out her name. Later, Bellemere is shown smiling, carrying a basket of oranges alongside Nami and Nojiko, who are happily holding oranges. Bellemere tells them, "Nojiko! Nami! Don't let anyone beat you! Even girls have to be strong!"

The scene shifts back to the tragic moment of Bellemere's death. A flintlock pistol is shown firing with a loud "BANG". Bellemere's voice echoes, "No matter what happens, don't ever hate the world you were born under!" Bellemere is shown smiling brightly despite the blood splattering from her wound. "It's alright if people don't praise or compliment you! Don't ever lose the strength to smile no matter when..." Arlong stands over her, having just shot her. She falls backward as the gunshot rings out. Nami and Nojiko are shown crying hysterically. Bellemere's final words resonate: "Because if you continue to live on, you'll surely come across fun times as well...!"

A wide, dramatic shot shows Bellemere's house and the tangerine orchard from above. The villagers' screams echo across the area: "BELLEMERE!" "Uwaaaah" "Nhaaaah". Below, Arlong throws his head back and laughs maniacally, his sharp teeth on full display. "SHA HAH AHA! Under my rule, those without money shall all die! HAHAHAHA!"

Arlong's crew stands victorious over the defeated villagers. Arlong shouts, "Is that clear, you pathetic humans!?" Hatchan, holding a stack of papers, calls out, "Arlong, look! I found some sea charts in this house! Look at all this!" Nami runs toward him in a panic, yelling, "Give'em back! I drew those maps! I'm gonna... set sail with those maps...!" Arlong looks at the maps with interest. "Oh? Colour me impressed... A little girl was able to draw these excellent maps...!?" Nojiko reaches out desperately, crying, "Nami, no! Get away from them!"

Hatchan grabs Nami, who struggles in his grip. Arlong commands, "She's a valuable talent. Bring her along, Hachi!" Hatchan agrees, "Sure thing!" Nami cries out, "Noooo! Let go of me!" Nojiko shouts, "Let go of Nami, you...!" Genzo, witnessing this, yells, "Stop right there! Didn't you say you wouldn't harm anyone, as long as we made the payment!?" Arlong casually replies, "Ah, don't worry. We won't harm her in any way. We're only borrowing her, that's all." Genzo draws his sword, demanding, "Let go of that girl right now!" Nami pleads, "Gen! Help!" Arlong simply says, "Kuroobi."

Kuroobi swiftly attacks Genzo, slashing him across the face and chest. Genzo screams in pain as blood sprays. Despite his severe injuries, Genzo tries to stand, gripping his sword. "I'm.. I'm coming to save you, Nami!" Nami screams his name in terror. She then cries out, "It's fine! Don't worry about me! You don't have to come and help me! So please! I don't want anyone to die anymore!" Arlong stands menacingly in front of the villagers, blocking their path. The villagers shout, "We won't let you through! So just leave Nami here and go!"

The Arlong Pirates brutally beat the remaining villagers. Arlong watches with a sinister grin, instructing his crew, "Go lightly on them... They are our first source of income, after all." A villager is shown being crushed under a fishman's foot. Hatchan spins his swords rapidly. The final panel shows a wide view of Cocoyasi Village, now quiet, damaged, and littered with debris after the pirates' assault.

In the aftermath, Genzo is lying in a bed, heavily bandaged. Dr. Nako is tending to him. Genzo speaks grimly, "All the ships in the village have been sunk... Even our idea, of sending Nami and Nojiko away on a boat is now... We were naive...! The Marines won't come to save us either. This island is now completely under their control..." He continues, "Bellemere must've already realized back then, that it was impossible for us to escape from this situation...! And that the only way to survive was to live under their rule..." Outside, Nojiko sits alone by Bellemere's makeshift grave, looking despondent. "Bellemere...! Nami's been taken away too... What am I supposed to do...?"

The villagers gather in the center of the village. One of them announces, "We've figured out where the Arlong Pirates are. It seems they're planning on setting up base on this island! The time for us to decide is now...!" Genzo, covered in bandages, addresses the crowd. "Shall we go out fighting, braving death, or accept their rule, under which we'll live under constant fear of death, and hope that the government will one day come to save us!?" He continues, "No... the only ones in the government that can hope to match these monsters, are those from the Marine Headquarters in Grand Line...! But the Marine Headquarters already have their hands full with the Grand Line, so hoping for them to come all the way out to these remote regions is useless!"

Genzo makes his decision clear. "I, for one, will not abandon Nami! I'll fight!" Another villager agrees, "Me too! I wouldn't be able to live with myself, if I abandoned a helpless child just to save myself!" The rest of the villagers rally together, raising their weapons. "Well if you're going to fight, the rest of us are going to get blamed anyways! So we might as well all fight!" Suddenly, Nami appears walking down the path. "Nacchan! Are you alright!? Thank God...!" Nami smiles brightly at them.

Nami stands before the villagers with a forced smile. "I... I've decided to join the Arlong Pirates... and become their cartographer." The villagers are stunned into silence, then erupt in disbelief. "Nami, what're you saying? Are you out of your mind!?" "Did they do anything horrible to you!? Did they do something to you!?" Nojiko steps forward, demanding, "Then they must've threatened you! Right!? Tell me the truth!" Nami yells back, "NO!" Nojiko looks at her in shock. Nami looks down and quietly says, "No..."

Nami pulls off her left sleeve, shouting, "Let go of me!" She reveals the Arlong Pirates' mark tattooed on her shoulder. The villagers gasp in horror. "Nami!" "That's... the tattoo of the Arlong Pirates!" "It can't be..." Nami then pulls out a thick stack of money, holding it up with a strained smile. "L-look... Look at all this money I got... They said they'll buy me anything I like...!"

Enraged, Nojiko tackles Nami to the ground, pinning her down. "NAMI! I won't ever forgive you! How could I after you joined those pirates! Do you have any idea what they're like!?" Nojiko continues to yell, "If living honestly means getting killed like Bellemere... then I want no part of it!" Genzo intervenes, saying, "That's enough, Nojiko..." Nojiko turns to him, furious. "How could you say such a thing!? Did you forget that Bellemere... Bellemere died for our sake!?"

Nojiko glares at Nami and shouts, "Get out of my sight, Nami! I don't ever want to see you step foot in this village again!" Nami runs away, tears streaming down her face. Nojiko watches her go, murmuring her name. A villager mutters, "How could she do such a stupid thing..." Genzo asks Nojiko, "Did she never consider Bellemere as her mother...!?" Nojiko replies firmly, "That's not it...! Nami loved Bellemere!"

Later, Nojiko finds Nami sitting alone by Bellemere's grave on the cliff. Nami asks, "Do you remember what Bellemere said to us once?" Nojiko replies, "Hm?" Nami continues, "She said as long as we continue to live on, we'll surely come across fun times as well...!" Nojiko agrees, "...Yeah." Nami explains her situation, "After Arlong took me to their ship, 5 Marine ships came after them. But they were all so easily sunk. Because the Arlong Pirates would easily destroy them! That's why we have to help ourselves...! I'm certain... that the government won't ever send help to this island."

Nami continues explaining her plan to Nojiko. "And if I ask anyone for help again... they'll just end up injured...! In return, I have to join their crew and draw maps for them...!" Nojiko asks in disbelief, "You're going to buy the village from them with 100 million beli!?" Nami confirms, "Yup. But even an adult working his entire life away probably couldn't raise up that much money! Because I know everyone is doing their best just to pay the tribute. Well I have no choice but to do it myself!" Nami looks down, "I... I don't ever want that to happen again...!" Nojiko asks, "But... won't it be hard? You'll have to work with the one who killed Bellemere..." Nami forces a smile, "It's fine! I can still smile even when looking at his face...!" With tears welling in her eyes, Nami declares, "I've decided to never cry again! And that I'll fight alone!"
