Natural Born Destroyer

Other children say, 'AS MANY CANDIES FROM YOUR KNAPSACK AS YOU WANT! IN EXCHANGE, WE'LL LET YOU EAT' and 'I WANNA GO TOO!'. A label identifies her as 'CHARLOTTE LINLIN 5-YEAR-OLD HUMAN'.

On a ship fleeing Elbaf's dangerous waters, worried villagers discuss the crisis. "THE HOLY MOTHER THEY SAY RESIDES IN THESE LANDS WILL SURELY SAVE LINLIN," one declares. Another adds, "IT'S A MIRACLE WE WERE ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH JUST SENDING HER OUT OF THE COUNTRY! WE CAN'T DEAL WITH THAT CHILD!" A man snaps, "QUIT CRYING ALREADY! SHE CAUSED SO MANY CASUALTIES," while a tearful voice cries, "NOO... LINLIN!" The captain orders, "WE'RE SETTING OFF NOW! WE CAN'T STAY IN THESE DANGEROUS WATERS FOR LONG!" In the sea below, massive fish leap as a polka-dot dressed woman stares in shock. "THERE'S SO MANY HUGE FISH HERE!" she exclaims amid splashing chaos and a startled "WHOA!" On the rocky shore, the same woman sits with two small children who complain, "PAPA! MAMA!" "I'M HUNGRY." "THEY'RE SO LATE~" and "THIS IS WEIRD." A narration box notes, "ONE CAN SCARCELY SPEAK OF ELBAF WITHOUT MENTIONING THAT..."

The page recounts an old legend in framed boxes: "THE 'GIANT SOLDIER PIRATE CREW' SUDDENLY LOST THEIR TWO CAPTAINS! IT'S A LEGEND." It continues, "SOME 100 YEARS AGO, THE GIANT WARRIORS THAT TERRORIZED THE WORLD... NOT LONG AFTER... AND WERE CAPTURED BY THE MARINES. AS THEY STOOD AT THE GALLOWS, HAVING LOST THEIR LEADER, SEVERAL STRAGGLERS OF THE CREW LET DOWN THEIR GUARD..." A massive "わああああああああ!!" cry echoes. Suddenly a beautiful woman in a dark hooded cloak appears, raising her hand. "THE HEAVENS CRY FOR PEACE!" she proclaims. "STOP!" she commands. Text identifies her: "HER NAME WAS SISTER CARAMEL."

Sister Carmel confronts the giants at the gallows. "IF YOU KILL THESE MEN, THE WARRIORS OF ELBAF WILL YET AGAIN TAKE UP ARMS! THEY WILL SWEAR REVENGE AGAINST HUMANITY!" she warns. The giants react with shock as dark clouds cover the sky. "AT THAT VERY MOMENT, DARK CLOUDS COVERED THE SKY," reads one box. "ALL THE MORE REASON! WHY DO YOU NOT SEE ITI!" she continues. "THE HEAVENSI! THE HELL ARE YOU ON ABOUTI!" a giant roars. "HAVE YOU ANY IDEA WHAT TERROR THESE MONSTERS HAVE INFLICTED ON THIS WORLDI" She pleads, "UNTO A WORLD WHERE THE MANY PEOPLES OF THIS EARTH CAN JOIN HANDS AND SMILE TOGETHER, AS ONE! FORGIVE THEIR SINS! I WILL LEAD THEM!" Later narration explains she took in orphaned children and "SHE OPENED A HOME CALLED 'THE LAMB'S HOUSE.'" Another box adds, "CARAMEL EVENTUALLY CAME TO BE CALLED HOLY MOTHER, OR JUST MOTHER."

Sister Carmel, now called Mother Carmel, stands with the children of the Lamb's House on Elbaf. "SHE DEVOTED HER LIFE TO THE BUILDING OF A BRIDGE OF FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN MAN AND GIANT," a box states. Another notes, "37 YEARS SINCE THAT DAY, 'THE LAMB'S HOUSE.'" She smiles warmly at the children and says, "YOU'LL BE OKAY NOW, LINLIN! COME BE FRIENDS WITH ALL OF US, UNTIL YOUR MOTHER AND FATHER COME BACK!" Young Linlin clings to her while other children grin. A box labels her, "MOTHER CARMEL (30 YEARS OLD) AND THE CHILDREN OF THE LAMB'S HOUSE." One child remarks, "EVERYONE HERE'S A BIT UNIQUE, BUT..." Carmel laughs, "UNIQUE ENOUGH FOR THEIR PARENTS TO NOT WANT 'EM, HAHAHA! YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO BEFRIEND THEM IN NO TIME." Other children shout, "THEY DUMPED YOU HERE LIKE A LOAD OF GARBAGE!" and "THEY AIN'T COMIN' BACK, IDIOT!"

In the giant village of Elbaf, young Linlin beams with excitement. "WELL, LET'S HAVE SOME FOOD, THEN!" she declares. A giant woman replies, "ARE YOU A GIANT OR SOMETHIN'I! YOU'RE FREAKIN' HUGE!" Linlin answers happily, "OKAY! THANKS! I'M SO HUNGRY!" Narration boxes explain her situation: "HERE THESE YOUNG ONES COULD LIVE AMONGST THE GIANTS, UNFETTERED BY STATUS OR LINEAGE." "PROBLEM CHILDREN RECALCITRANT BEYOND EVEN THE PATIENCE OF THEIR PARENTS." "CHILDREN FORCED INTO NEAR-SLAVERY BY POVERTY." "A PRINCE DRIVEN OUT OF HIS COUNTRY BY RIOTS AND REVOLUTIONS." Someone wonders, "A NEW GIRLI" Another box continues: "PEOPLE, HOUSES, AND SCENERY THAT SEEMED MADE FOR HER SIZE. IT WAS AN INDESCRIBABLY COMFORTING FEELING." "FIRST SAW IN ELBAF BUT ABOVE ALL, LINLIN, WHO HAD SPENT HER WHOLE LIFE BEING BIGGER THAN EVERYONE AROUND HER." Linlin cries out in joy, "WHOAAA" as the giants welcome her.

Linlin suddenly bursts into tears. "WHY... WHY... WAAA AHHH!" A giant woman comforts her, "OH NO! WHAT'S THE MATTER, LINLINI" A small giant child explains, "MOTHER! YOU KNOW, MISTER BEAR AND MISTER WOLF WERE FIGHTING IN THE FOREST! AND BECAUSE HE WAS BEING BAD, I GAVE MISTER BEAR A SPANKY! BUT THAT SILLY MISTER BEAR ATE MISTER WOLF! SO I PUT THEM IN THE SAME CAGE! AND BECAUSE IT'S NOT GOOD TO FIGHT, I DECIDED I NEEDED TO MAKE THEM BE FRIENDS!" The bear lies dead. A giant man mutters, "SHE KILLED IT INSTANTLY..." Linlin sobs, "JUST ONCE!" with a fierce expression.

The giant woman smiles warmly. "OF ALL THE PEOPLE LINLIN HAD MET IN HER LIFE, THIS WAS THE FIRST THAT ACTUALLY UNDERSTOOD HER." "MM! YES! YOU'RE SUCH A KIND GIRL, LINLIN! YOU WANTED BOTH OF THEM TO BE FRIENDS, DIDN'T YOUI" Villagers gossip in panic: "APPARENTLY THERE WAS A MOSQUITO SO SHE TRIED TO SMACK IT!" "DID YOU HEARI SHE GOT IN A HUGE FIGHT WITH EYRI!" "SHE'S CRAZY!" "LINLIN KILLED THAT BEAR IN ONE HIT!" "I SAW IT! SHE BROKE A BUNCH OF HIS BONES!" Linlin pleads, "EVERYONE! FORGIVE HER! LINLIN IS A KIND GIRL!" A box notes, "CARAMEL FORGAVE EVERYTHING SHE DID." The giants react in horror as Linlin tries to "help" by tearing fins and joints from a fish-man and a longarm, shouting "NO! THE MERPEOPLE LOOK LIKE FISH! THAT'S HOW THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE!" "NO! HE'S FROM THE LONGARM TRIBE! THAT'S HOW HE'S SUPPOSED TO BE!" The victims scream, "GYAAAAAH! SAVE ME, MOTHER!"

Ten months later in Elbaf, the giants prepare for the Winter Solstice Festival. A girl tells Linlin, "THE 12 DAYS START TOMORROW! THE ONLY THING THAT CAN PASS YOUR LIPS IS WATER! WE DON'T EAT ANYTHING!" Linlin reacts, "EH~I! FASTI" Narration reads, "NEW WORLD, WARLAND, ELBAF. THE GREAT WARRIORS OF THE LAND TOOK LINLIN IN WITH TOLERANCE AND GENEROSITY." A giant shouts, "IT'S NEARING 40 YEARS! HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF A DUEL THAT TAKES THAT LONGI!" Hajrudin battles fiercely while a giant encourages him, "FIGHT WITH YOURSELF, HAJRUDIN! BUT IF YOU JUST BEAR THAT FOR A LITTLE, YOU GET TO ENJOY THE FESTIVAL! I'M GONNA GET SO HUNGRY!" Linlin runs forward crying, "LINLIN'S GONNA KILL US!" The giants cheer, "YOU ARE A WARRIOR! KEEP FIGHTING, HAJRUDIN!" "THEY WILL REVIVE THE GIANT WARRIOR PIRATES!" Linlin is welcomed: "AH! ISN'T THIS YOUR FIRST TIME, LINLINI" "ARE YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS READYI" "YO! LINLIN!"

In the giant village, excited children point at the towering warriors and cheer, "They're so cool! All giantfolk respect those two warriors!" "LORD YARLE! LORD YORLE!" The massive figures of Lord Mount-Beard and Lord Fall-Beard loom as one declares, "ZABABABA! I LIKE THAT SPIRIT OF YOURS, HAJRUDIN!" Linlin and the townsfolk gather as the elders explain, "Good to see you here, Linlin. We've come to call the children of the town. It's time to eat Semla!" "Why are the two of you here in town todayI" The giants reply, "Caramel and her talk of trade are all well and good, but we mustn't forget the way of the warrior!" Children beg, "Are we gonna eat it nowI" "That sweet dessertI" while others describe the treat: "It's a sweet and sluuuuper delicious dessert! Right before the fast, we eat Semla to get in our nutrients! They stuff a sweeeet dough made with marzipan with whipped cream and cover the top with powdered sugar! It's our final treat before the fast!" Signs identify the giants as "YARLE MONTBEARD (345 YEARS OLD)" and "YORLE FALLBEARD (344 YEARS OLD)", former captains of the Giant Warrior Pirates.

The village celebrates with a feast as voices ring out, "YUMMMM-MMMMY!" "WE THANK THE SUN FOR THE GROWTH OF OUR CHILDREN!" "AND FOR ROLd! GOLD! AND BALG!" "FOR PRINCE LOKI, WHO WAS BORN JUST THE OTHER DAY IN THE CASTLE!" "YAAAY! SEMLA!" Linlin devours the sweets in ecstasy, "I'M SO HAPPY~" "IT'S SO GOOD!" while others cry, "SWEE-EEEET!" The giants warn, "YOU CAN'T EAT THEM AT THAT SPEED! WE'RE NOT GOING TO HAVE ENOUGH TO GO AROUND!" but the feasting continues with "YUUUUMM-MMMYYY!" "SEMla ARE SO YUMMY!" "IT'S DELICIOUS! DELICIOUS!" and frantic chomping sounds as everyone stuffs themselves before the fast.

Narration explains the festival: "THE SUN WILL PASS THROUGH THE HARSH WINTER, AND ONCE AGAIN WILL WARM US WITH ITS BENEVOLENT LIGHT. THE WINTER SOLSTICE FESTIVAL CELEBRATES THE DEATH AND REBIRTH OF THE SUN." Linlin, looking frail, cries, "MOTHER! I'M SO HUNGRY I FEEL LIKE I'M GOING TO DIE." The days of the fast are marked: "THE THIRD DAY OF THE FAST", "FOURTH DAY", "SIXTH DAY". Linlin begs, "I WANNA EAT SOME SEMLA NOW..." while Caramel notes, "LINLIN HAD COME TO LOVE MOTHER WITH ALL HER HEART." On the seventh day, Linlin collapses in agony, screaming, "IT'S HORRIBLE, MOTHER! HELP!" as the village reacts in shock.

Lord Yarle confronts the rampaging child, "THERE'S A LIMIT TO HOW MUCH WE CAN FORGIVE, EVEN FOR A CHILD." "YOU'VE FINALLY GONE AND DONE IT, LINLIN." Linlin's uncontrollable hunger erupts in massive destruction as she rampages through Elbaf village, smashing buildings and warriors with "AAAAA AAA!" "LAAAAAAA" "SEEEEEM" and enormous impact effects. Voices scream, "STOP! LORD YORLE!" "CARAMEL, MY APOLOGIES, BUT THIS ONE IS NO CHILD." "SHE'S A DEMON!" "AN UNSTOPPABLE APPETITE..." The narration reveals, "LINLIN'S DESTROYED THE VILLAGE OF ELBAF!" as survivors cry, "THIS IS A NIGHTMARE!" "MY GOD..." "LIN-LIN!" and the chapter ends with the devastated landscape.
