Sabo's Adventure

At night on a hill in Dressrosa’s eastern city of Carta, Robin stands before Kyros’ house and says, "I JUST CAME TO SEE HIS FACE ONE LAST TIME." A voice replies, "ROBIN! THERE'S NO NEED TO WAKE HIM." A caption notes "KYROS' HOUSE" and "A HILL IN DRESSROSA'S EASTERN CITY, CARTA" with "WITH THEIR PERILOUS BATTLES OVER, THE WARRIORS...". In a later scene a blonde man exclaims "THEY'RE AFTER US..." while another states "CP ZERO HAVE TURNED BACK AND ARE HEADING FOR DRESSROSA AGAIN." A dark-haired woman asks "ARE YOU LEAVING DRESSROSA ALREADYI". Inside a room an older man advises "YOU GUYS SHOULD ALSO SET SAIL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE" as another warns "WITHIN A DAY OR TWO, DRESSROSA'S GONNA BE QUITE THE HECTIC PLACE." A figure on the floor thinks "STILL... TO THINK THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER BROTHER BESIDES ACE..." while drinking with a "SLURP" sound effect.

A bandaged man with an eyepatch reflects on the past. "LUFFY WAS PROBABLY THE MOST SURPRISED, TO BE HONEST." In another panel he continues, "I'M SURE..." while another voice exclaims, "SERIOUSLY! THIS IS THE FIRST I'VE EVER HEARD OF IT." The scene shifts to a scarred man lying down who says, "I'VE BEEN DEAD ALL THIS TIME." The bandaged man replies, "WELL, I... I'VE..." and then reacts with "HMI" The flashback shows young Luffy, Ace, and Sabo as children. Narration states, "THE THREE OF US EXCHANGED VOWS OF BROTHERHOOD OVER CUPS OF SAKE." The bandaged man adds, "BUT ONCE WE AGREED ON BECOMING PIRATES..." "OLD MAN GARP DID HIS BEST TO KEEP US ON A SHORT LEASH..." "WHEN WE WERE KIDS, ACE AND LUFFY AND I, THE THREE OF US, WE WERE QUITE THE HANDFUL..."

In the chaos of a burning town, a voice shouts "LUFFY! RUN!" and "ACE!" Young Sabo cries out as flames rage. A man in a top hat asks, "WHAT IS THE MATTER, BOYI" Young Luffy appears shocked. Sabo explains, "I MET WITH AN ACCIDENT. OR, WELL, AN 'INCIDENT.'" A monstrous figure with a wide grin declares, "I CAN NEVER BE FREE!" "AS LONG AS I'M HERE..." "IT REEKS OF ROTTING HUMANS!" "HAA... THIS COUNTRY STINKS MORE THAN A GARBAGE DUMP!" "THIS PLACE IS ALMOST LIKE A BIRD CAGE..." Explosions rock a ship as young Luffy yells, "WHAT EVEN IS FREEDOMI" "WHERE IS ITI I WONDER..."

Explosions and debris fill the air as a desperate voice cries, "SAVE ME... SOMEONE... PLEASE... SA-" Young Ace and Luffy shout "ACE!" and "LUFFY!" A cloaked figure with a top hat watches from the shadows. A bearded man in a dark cloak lies injured while another figure looms. Onlookers react: "HE'S IN CRITICAL CONDITION!" "OI! SOMEONE! GET THIS KID A DOCTOR!" A woman with curly hair says, "AH..." "SORRY." A scarred man with a wide grin taunts, "HOW LONG ARE YOU GONNA MAKE US WAIT!I" "YOU SURE TOOK YOUR SWEET ASS TIME, DIDN'T YOU, DRAGON!"

Bandaged Sabo lies in bed, eyes wide. "WHA-I" A voice notes, "HIS CONDITION IS... QUITE PECULIAR..." "HE'S REGAINED CONSCIOUSNESS BUT..." A cloaked figure with a stitched face leans in and says, "THERE'S THE NAME 'SABO' WRITTEN ON YOUR PERSONAL BELONGINGS... IS THAT YOUR NAME, BOYI" "YES, HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW HIS OWN NAME." "HIS MEMORIES... WON'T RETURN!I" Sabo replies, "SABO!I HELL IF I KNOW..." He protests, "I DON'T WANT TO GO BACK! JUST TAKE ME AWAY WITH YOU! SOMEWHERE! ANYWHERE!" The cloaked figure responds, "WHA... NO!" "WELL THEN, WE SHOULD SEND HIM BACK. I'LL CONTACT HIS PARENTS." "HE'S PART OF A FAMILY FROM THE GOA KINGDOM... OF THAT I AM SURE."

Sabo sits on the floor in a dark room, head bowed, recalling his past. "WAS THAT I, AT NO COST, WANTED TO RETURN TO MY PARENTS. I DIDN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING ELSE..." A close-up shows his scarred face as he realizes, "THE ONLY THING CLEAR TO ME... SO YOU REALLY WERE COMPLETELY AMNESIC!I" Outside at night, Sabo reacts with shock. "!I" A voice explains, "ACE FILLED ME IN ON EVERYTHING. 'YOU'RE SABO! LUFFY'S BROTHER!' HE SAID. THAT'S WHAT I'VE COME TO REALIZE." Sabo clutches his head in anguish. "WOW, GOOD THING YOUR MEMORIES EVENTUALLY RETURNED." Inside a bustling bar filled with revolutionaries, someone asks, "IS IVA-SAN OKAY!I HE ISN'T LISTED AMONG THE FATALITIES... THOSE WHO PASSED AWAY ARE..." Sabo reads a newspaper with wide eyes. "THERE'S EVEN AN ARTICLE ABOUT WHITEBEARD'S DEFEAT! THE LATEST NEWS ABOUT THE 'WAR OF THE GREATEST' ARE HOT OFF THE PRESSES! HIS TIMING COULDN'T HAVE BEEN ANY WORSE, BUT... I GUESS THAT'S EXACTLY WHY... HE ACTUALLY BROUGHT IT ALL BACK FOR ME!"

Sabo stares at the newspaper in disbelief. "IS THIS TRUE!I ARE YOU REALLY STRAW HAT LUFFY'S FATHER!I YOU GOTTA BE SHITTIN' ME!" Dragon replies calmly, "HMI OH. YEAH." Sabo shouts, "WHA- AAT!I" The paper shows Dragon's face. "MORE IMPORTANTLY... LOOK AT THIS! DRAGON-SAN... FIRE FIST ACE! THE YONKOU, WHITEBEARD, AND..." Young Sabo, Ace, and Luffy react with shock and excitement. "THEN I'M GONNA BECOME A BIGSHOT PIRATE! I'M GONNA SHOW THE WORLD!" "I'M GONNA BECOME A PIRATE!" Sabo collapses in the bar, overwhelmed. "SABO-KUN, WHAT'S THE MATTERI YOU'RE ACTING WEIRDER THAN USUAL..." Koala watches with concern as Sabo sweats and gasps, "HAA- HAA-... HAA- HAA-"

Sabo's eye widens in horror. "THAT'S RIGHT..." A flashback shows Ace and others. "IF YOU EXCHANGE VOWS OVER A CUP OF SAKE WITH SOMEONE, YOU BECOME BROTHERS! APPARENTLY ACE WAS... RAN THROUGH BY AKAINU! HEY GUYS, DID YOU KNOWI" The bar erupts in chaos as Sabo screams, "THE PERSON WHO WAS KILLED... ISN'T SOME NAMELESS PIRATE... NOT SOME MUST-ELIMINATE MAJOR PLAYER IN THE PIRATE AGE... SABO-KUN! SABO! WAAAA AAAAAA AGGGGG GGGHHH HHHH!!!!" Sabo collapses to his knees, clutching his head. "MY BROTHER! ACE IS..."

Sabo wakes up with a start. "SERIOUSLY!I WHAT A RELIEF! THE CHIEF OF STAFF'S AWAKE! OPEN" He sits up, determined. "AND I AIN'T GONNA LOSE TO ANYONE! I AIN'T GONNA RUN FROM ANYONE!" Koala cries with relief. "DID YOUR MEMORIES COME BACK!I ARE YOU GONNA QUIT THE REVOLUTIONARY ARMY!I" Sabo answers, "YOU HAD AN INCREDIBLE FEVER. YOU WERE OUT FOR THREE DAYS STRAIGHT. YOU HAD US REALLY WORRIED! WAAAAAAAAAAH!! WE THOUGHT YOU WERE GONNA DIE, SABO-KUN..." Dragon speaks, "IS DRAGON-SAN HEREI THERE ARE SOME THINGS I'D LIKE TO TALK TO HIM ABOUT. NO. NO, I'M NOT... ALSO..." The scene shifts to a massive colosseum. "TWO YEARS LATER, DRESSROSA. THERE IS A CERTAIN DEVIL FRUIT THAT I SIMPLY MUST HAVE. I'D LIKE TO ASK THIS OF THE REVOLUTIONARY ARMY."

In the stone corridor, a furious bearded man in a helmet roars at the cloaked figure, "YOU GOT SOME NERVE ADDRESSING LUFFY-SENPAI SO DIRECTLY! AND WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU!I" Nearby, voices shout "STRAW HAT LUFFY!" and "THE MERA MERA NO MI! THERE'S NO WAY I CAN GIVE YOU..." The cloaked man with a long beard and hat insists, "ALSO, YOU KEEP CALLING ME LUFFY, BUT YOU'RE MISTAKEN! LOOK CLOSELY AT THIS BEARD! I'M LUCY! THERE'S NO WAY I'D FAIL TO RECOGNIZE MY LITTLE BROTHER. EVEN IF HE'S WEARING A DISGUISE." Luffy stares in shock, "!I" as the bearded man continues, "HMI WHO IS 'ME'!I THE MERA MERA NO MI... IT'S ME, LUFFY!" The true cloaked figure with wavy hair stands calmly opposite a tall man in a dark coat. A voice wonders, "SOMEONE WHO PASSED AWAY A REALLY LONG TIME AGO... LITTLE BROTHERI THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO EVER CALLED ME THEIR LITTLE BROTHER WAS ACE AND..."

Luffy's eyes widen in disbelief, "NO WAY!" as memories flash of two boys stealing sake and exchanging cups. The cloaked figure lunges forward with a dramatic impact, "SABO!I" Sabo appears clearly, pipe in hand, striking with force as "SABO!" echoes and "SABO 0000 0000!" rings out. The bearded man gapes in shock, sweat flying, while Sabo lands a blow, "OOF." Luffy cries out, "LUFFY!" Sabo replies warmly, "I'M GLAD TOO..." The bearded man panics, "BWAAAGH GWAGH YOUHB AHH! WHABAT'S BLOING GON!I I BLEENGT YOU WAGH AAAH!" as chaos erupts around them with impact lines and debris.

Sabo embraces Luffy tightly, "BUT... SABO! I... I SAW ACE MURDERED RIGHT BEFORE MY OWN EYES!" Luffy trembles, tears forming. Sabo smiles gently, "I'M GLAD YOU'RE STILL ALIVE!" In a flashback panel, a younger Luffy cries out about nearly losing his brothers. Sabo continues, "YEAH. ACE HAS DIED, BUT... I'M GLAD YOU MANAGED TO MAKE IT OUT OF THERE!" Luffy, overwhelmed, says, "I WAS ABOUT TO LOSE MY ONLY TWO BROTHERS WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT!" Sabo replies earnestly, "THANK YOU FOR STAYING ALIVE, LUFFY! IF YOU WOULD'VE GOTTEN KILLED AS WELL... I'D HAVE BEEN ALL ALONE!" A loud "THUD" sounds as they stand together amid rubble.

The bearded man sweats nervously, "MMHMMM! THAT'D BE FOR THE BEST!" while Sabo asks Luffy, "IS IT OKAY IF I... EAT THE MERA MERA NO MI!" In another area, Sabo stands over fallen figures, saying, "I GOT TO SEE HIS FACE. ALREADYI WELL THEN, I'M OFF!" A voice responds, "THAT'S HOW IT SHOULD BE!" Luffy lies bandaged in bed, reacting with shock. A woman with dark hair smiles, "GOTCHA! DON'T YOU WORRY!" Sabo holds up a Vivre Card, "I'VE TAKEN A PIECE FOR MYSELF. BY THE WAY, THIS IS A VIVRE CARD FOR LUFFY. WHEN'D YOU GET THE TIME TO..." Luffy grins, "I WENT AHEAD AND MADE ONE. AND, WELL... I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT IT'S LIKE TRYING TO KEEP THE REIGNS ON LUFFY, BUT..."

Sabo stands in a flower-filled field at night, speaking into a Den Den Mushi. "Yeah, I've just left. I'll be there soon!" A voice replies, "SaboI This is Hack." The snail flashes "GA CHA PURURU" as the call connects. Sabo smiles, noting, "Man, that's almost the exact same thing Ace said to us..." Hack reacts in alarm, "WAY TOO CLOSE! THAT WAS TOO CLOSE FOR COMFORT, HACK! WHY THE HELL DID YOU HANG UP, OPERATORI!" as the line cuts to "DIAL TONE." Elsewhere, a man in a top hat asks, "Roger. How was itI Luffy-kun was quite..." while a fishman-like figure glares. In a wide panel, the elder brother figure rides a large bird through the sky amid a flock, replying to a companion, "Shall we hurry thenI" with "Yes. Whenever." The narration box states the chapter will be on hiatus after this issue.
