To Reach the Future

"PROTECT THE BOOKS!!!" another calls. Explosions and flames consume the structures as books tumble everywhere. "EVERYTHING WILL BE BURNED!!!" a voice warns. "THIS ISLAND ISN'T GONNA MAKE IT!!!" another adds. A marine replies, "I HAVE NO IDEA, SIR!!!" as the giant continues his assault amid the inferno.

Young Nico Robin screams desperately at the rampaging giant. "SAUL!! PLEASE, STOP, OR YOU'LL DIE!!!" Saul continues smashing through the library as books and debris fly. Scholars and civilians scramble to save the texts. "THAT'S BETTER THAN HAVING EVERYTHING BURNED TO ASHES!!!" one shouts. "THROW THEM OUT THE WINDOWS, INTO THE LAKE!!!" another orders. "KOHH!!" Saul grunts amid the destruction. "HURRY!!!" voices urge. "PROTECT AS MANY SENTENCES AS WE CAN!!!" a scholar yells while carrying books. "AS MANY BOOKS AS WE CAN!!!" another echoes. "DUMP THE DOCUMENTS OUTSIDE!!!" comes the command as books tumble from windows. In a large circular panel, Robin clutches books tightly with a determined expression. The narration states, "WILL FIND A WAY TO REACH THE FUTURE!" Nearby, a scholar hopes, "HOPE THAT THIS SEVERAL THOUSAND YEARS WORTH OF ANCIENT TEXTS..." as the evacuation continues amid smoke and falling debris.

Explosions tear through Ohara as a massive mushroom cloud rises from the burning island. A voice shouts urgently, "RUN TO DA EVACUATION SHIP WHILE YA CAN!!!" Robin stares in horror from the foreground, tears streaming down her face. Another voice warns, "IF YA STAY ON DIS ISLAND!!! YA AIN'T GONNA SURVIVE...!!!" The ground shakes violently. A giant figure is hurled backward by a colossal blast, crying out "AHH!!!" as debris and smoke engulf the scene. Multiple impact sounds echo: ドカン ドドドドド and ドドド!!. Young Robin stands amid the chaos, breathing heavily with "HAA..." visible, her eyes wide with fear as buildings crumble around her.

A deafening "MOO-OOOM!!!" shakes the island as smoke and debris fill the sky. Young Robin watches in terror, sweat and tears on her face. A giant voice roars, "LIVE, ROBIN!!!" Another demands, "WAT'S YER MOM'S WISH!I" Robin is called out again: "ROBIN!!!" Someone orders, "AIM FOR SAUL!!!" On the shore, Robin runs desperately toward the evacuation ship, shouting "WAIT!! SOME-BODY'S COMING!!!" while the vessel's crew yells, "EVACUATION SHIP WILL BE DEPARTING NOW!!!" The ship begins to pull away amid the continuing blasts and smoke.

Panicked Ohara villagers recognize the small girl trying to board the evacuation ship. "NO, WAIT, I RECOGNIZE HER!!! I READ ABOUT HER IN THE NEWSPAPER!" "HEY!! DON'T BE A FOOL!!" "OH YEAH, GO AWAY, MONSTER!!!" "THE MONSTER GIRL'S STILL ON THE ISLAND!!!" "A MONSTER!!!" "ISN'T SHE THE DAUGHTER OF OLIVIA, THE CRIMINAL!!I" Crew members argue on deck: "I'LL PREPARE A ROPE!" "DON'T BE SILLY!!! SHE'S JUST A CHILD!!! LET HER ON!!" "WHAT!II" "IF WE LET HER ON THE SHIP, WE'LL BE KILLED, TOO!!" The girl stares in shock, hands raised, as screams erupt: "KYAAAH!" "OOWAAAAH!! SHE'S ALSO A TARGET OF THIS ATTACK!!!" A distant figure on the cliff spots the girl and shouts, "OH!!! I'VE FOUND HER!!!" Onlookers react in horror: "CHIEF SPANDYNE!!" "UGH....!!" "... IS... IS THAT TRUE!I" "... SEE!!! IF WE ALLOW HER ONBOARD, WE'LL BE IN DANGER!!" The giant man on the evacuation ship roars, "WAT NON-SENSE....!!" "CP9," HUHI" as the girl turns in surprise. A voice calls out, "ROBIN!I"

Marines open fire in panic as explosions rock the island. "SHOOT!!! SHOOT!!! FIRE!!!" one officer yells while another shouts, "... WE DIDN'T HAVE TO BOTHER OLIVIA FOR HIS WHEREABOUTS!!" A soldier cries out, "WHOA!! VICE ADMIRAL SAUL REALLY IS ON THIS ISLAND!!" and "CHIEF!!!" Another warns, "VICE ADMIRAL SAUL IS COMING THIS WAY!!!" Saul charges forward swinging his massive partisan, roaring "PAR-TISAN*!!!" as the weapon smashes through the air. Kuzan counters with his power, slamming an enormous "ICE BLOCK" into Saul and sending shockwaves and debris flying. Young Robin stands nearby, eyes wide with fear. In close-up, Kuzan’s face twists in shock as he yells, "....!! KUZAN!!!" A marine screams "KUZAN-SAN!!!" while Robin cries out "SAUL!!!" *PARTISAN IS A TYPE OF POLEARM THAT WAS USED IN EUROPE DURING MEDIEVAL TIME.

A massive Buster Call bombardment erupts across the shore, with giant cannon fire and smoke engulfing the area. Someone shouts, "THIS ATTACK!!I" as another voice calls, "KUZAN....!! CAN YOU BE PROUD OF" while orders ring out, "EVERYONE, RETREAT!!" Young Robin watches the destruction. In the next panels, Kuzan declares, "IF THIS IS FOR THE GREATER GOOD OF THE WORLD, I HAVE NO OPINION." A marine retorts, "YOU SHOULD KNOW IT WELL!!! THIS IS JUST TO CREATE AN 'EXAMPLE'....!!!" Another adds, "THE SCHOLARS ARE BREAKING THE LAW, AFTER ALL....!!!" and "THEY'RE GOING TO OBLITERATE OHARA FOR THAT PURPOSE!!!" Kuzan finishes coldly, "IT'S STRANGE.....!!!"

Narration states, "THE THING CALLED 'JUSTICE' CHANGES ITS SHAPE DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU STAND." Warships burn and sink amid smoke and debris. A massive explosion erupts from the sea with a huge "ドン" impact, sending shockwaves and smoke everywhere. Vice Admiral Sakazuki stands on the shore, fist clenched. Panicked civilians and Marines react in horror: "FROM VICE ADMIRAL SAKAZUKI'S WARSHIP!!!", "IT'S A BOMBARDMENT!!! WHY DID THAT HAPPEN...!!!", "WHAT...!I WHY DID THAT HAPPEN!I", "OO-WAAAH!!! THE EVACUATION SHIP EXPLODED!!", and "!!!! BASTARD...!!!"

Vice Admiral Sakazuki stands with fist raised, declaring, "ALL SACRIFICES WOULD'VE BEEN A COMPLETE WASTE....!! EVIL NEEDS TO BE ROOTED OUT!!!" A sign identifies him: "Marine Headquarters Vice Admiral Sakazuki (Later known as Admiral Akainu)". He continues, "IF ANY OF THE SCHOLARS HAD MANAGED TO SNEAK ONBOARD, IF WE'RE GOING TO DO IT, WE DO IT THOROUGHLY....!!!" A massive close-up shows his gritted teeth. Jaguar D. Saul erupts from the water in rage, shouting, "CAN YOU STILL BE PROUD OF YOURSELF AFTER THIS!!! IS THIS A DEED OF YOUR JUSTICE...!!I" Saul's strength sends water and debris flying with "ドン" and "バキ" effects. He yells, "HIS STRENGTH IS EXTRAORDINARY!!!" and "LET'S RUN, ROBIN!!!" Sakazuki smirks, "....!! I WASN'T GONNA OVERDO IT AS MUCH AS THAT FOOL!!!"

Explosions rock the burning harbor as Marine warships fire on the fleeing giant. A voice cries out, "HE'S GOT ONE OF THE SCHOLARS WITH HIM...!!!" Another shouts, "SAUL FLED!!!" Massive sound effects rumble across the water: ゴォォォォォ...オォ...オォ...!!! Saul, carrying young Robin, charges through the chaos. He roars "OGH!!!" and unleashes his attack, "ICE TIME CAPSULE"!!! Freezing waves erupt around the ships with a loud CRACKLE!!! and the massive SFX ビシィィィィィ...!!! The giant's ice spreads rapidly. In the aftermath, Saul sets Robin down on the shore and urges her, "ROBIN... RUN!!" coughing "KAFF... HAA..." as he looks back. Robin stares up in shock, tears forming, and cries "SAUL!!!" while small TMP TMP... footsteps echo and a distant "!I" marks the tension.

Saul looms over Robin on the ruined shore, bloodied and exhausted, shouting "IF YA STAY ON DIS ISLAND, YA AIN'T GONNA SURVIVE...!!! JUST... USE MY RAFT AND SAIL OUT!!" with heavy "HAA" breaths. He urges her, "RUN WIF ALL YER MIGHT!!!" Robin looks up and asks, "WHAT ABOUT YOU, SAUL!!I" Saul continues, "EVEN THOUGH YER ALONE NOW...!!! LISTEN UP, ROBIN..." as more "HAA" sounds escape him. He declares, "NOBODY'S ON THE SEA ANYMORE!!" Robin screams "NO!!" while Saul pushes her onward: "GO!!! DIS IS AS FAR AS I'M GONNA GET. I'M CAUGHT!!" In a final moment of encouragement, Saul tells her, "YER "NAKAMA" WILL APPEAR TO PROTECT YOU!!! THE SEA IS VAST... SUMDAY, SURELY YE'R GONNA MEET YER "NAKAMA"!!!" Robin stands alone, tears streaming, whispering "... NAKAMAI" as the giant's words echo and the devastated landscape stretches behind her.

Young Robin stares up in terror as Jaguar D. Saul looms above her, his massive face contorted with pain and determination. "YER NEVA GONNA BE ALONE!!!" he roars. SUMWHERE OUT DER, IN DA SEA," while ice spreads across his body. Robin screams "WAAAAAAA-AAAAAAAH!!!" as Saul shouts her name one last time: "SAUL!!!" The narration notes "ICE TIME"...

Saul's massive frozen form crashes down amid explosions and debris. "WITH THEM!!!" he bellows as ice and smoke erupt around him. Robin weeps, "I'M SORRY, ROBIN... I COULDN'T EVEN LEAVE YOU ANY WORDS," Saul's voice echoes. Marines and scholars react in horror as the Tree of Knowledge burns. "IT'S NO USE!" someone shouts. Saul's final words ring out: "HUMANS ARE... HOW...SHALL... LOW..." "THIS IS YET ANOTHER HISTORY... THAT HUMANITY HAS CHOSEN." "THE TREE OF OMNI-SCIENCE IS FALLING...!!!" "IT'S FALLING...!!" Robin stands frozen in grief as the narration states "AS YOUR MOTHER..." while the island crumbles around her.

A young girl with short black hair walks away from the shore carrying a small bag, leaving a distant figure behind near a boat. SFX crackle as she moves. In close-up, the girl stares with wide, tear-streaked eyes while a tall man in a dark cap speaks to her. He says, "BUT BE GLAD THAT YOU HAVE YOUR LIFE NOW. IT'S NONE OF MY BUSINESS AGAINST WHOM YOU'LL BEAR A GRUDGE," then adds, "IN THE FUTURE... TRY TO LIVE A LIFE AS ORDINARY AS POSSIBLE." The man continues, "... I'VE DECIDED TO LET YOU ESCAPE FROM THIS ISLAND... A 'SEED' THAT SAUL PROTECTED... I WONDER WHAT IT'LL BECOME..." He warns, "I'M NOT YOUR FRIEND... IF YOU DO ANYTHING, I'M THE 'ENEMY' WHO'LL BE THE FIRST TO CATCH YOU. AND REMEMBER THIS: IF YOU TRAVEL STRAIGHT WITH THIS BOAT, YOU'LL REACH LAND. I'VE PREPARED A PATH OF ICE ON THE SEA." The burning ruins of Ohara stretch in the background as he concludes, "IF YOU WISH TO DIE OF BITTERNESS, WELL, THAT'S UP TO YOU, AS WELL." The girl cries out desperately, "NO ONE COULD SURVIVE...... A smiling older man asks the young girl, "DO YOU LIKE BOOKSI" The burning library of Ohara blazes with the caption "THIS IS THE WORLD'S GREATEST LIBRARY. OHARA." The girl looks on with a sad expression. Flashback panels show her alongside a blonde girl as voices cheer, "THAT YOU'LL BE LIVING IN!!! WE SHOULDN'T GIVE UP ON THE FUTURE BE PROUD, ROBIN!!! OHARA IS HONORABLE!!! CONGRATULATIONS, ROBIN!!! TODAY IS ROBIN'S BIRTHDAY--!!" A small child shouts, "WE GOT YOU A CAKE, TOO! A CAKE!!" The scene erupts into chaos with massive flames and debris; the girl weeps while laughter echoes, "DERESHI-SHISHI... IT WON'T BE LIKE DAT. I'D BE AN IDIOT IF I LAUGH WHEN I HAVE A HARD TIME, JUS' LAFF. SO JUS' LAFF! WHEN YA HAVE A HARD TIME, JUS' LAFF." SFX of roaring fire and impact fill the panels as the memory overwhelms her.

A battered figure nearby coughs violently, "...!!!" and "SOB", muttering "... DERE-SHI-SHI...!!!" while clutching their face. In a vast, dramatic spread, a lone figure plummets toward the churning sea between jagged ice cliffs. A powerful voice rings out, "YA WILL SURELY MEET YER NAKAMA, ROBIN!!!"
