Adventure in the Country of Sand

A close-up shows a man in a turban-like hat and dark sunglasses gripping a staff tightly, his mouth open wide in exhaustion as he utters "UGH...". Small sound effects "..." and "ジリ..." appear near him. The scene cuts to a vast, empty desert landscape under a bright sun. Distant figures walk across the dunes. Scattered sound effects fill the air: large Japanese characters "てりっ!!" dominate the sky, while smaller ones like "ジリ" and speech bubbles with "UGH..." and "ジリ..." emphasize the oppressive heat and fatigue.

The Straw Hats trudge through the desert. Luffy, in a hooded coat and sunglasses, groans while holding his staff: "UGH... I'M ROASTING UP..." and "CAN'T EVEN SWEAT ANYMORE...". Vivi, in a hooded robe, pleads, "Just hearing it is tiring me out... Can you please stop panting like that, LuffyI". Usopp, Chopper (in a small form), Sanji, and others follow wearily. In the next panels, Chopper yells at Luffy, "CHOPPER! I'M NOT GONNA MOOOVE IF YOU TURN BIG!" while Luffy retorts playfully. The group collapses from heat; Luffy lies on the ground complaining, "I'M DONE FOR... I'M FINE WITH THE COLD, BUT THE HEAT'S NO GOOD...". Vivi notes, "It's like I'm hiking up a mountain here...". Sanji remarks on the hills, and Vivi replies that she was born and raised in this country, adding that Sanji seems to be holding up well.

Nami, hooded, explains, "This is a very old desert. Some of the larger sand dunes here reach over 300 meters." Luffy reacts in shock: "T-three hundred!I I thought this was a desert, not a mountain range...". Usopp drinks from a barrel with a loud "GULP!" while Luffy begs for water. Vivi advises, "Remember, Luffy. One gulp, just enough to moisten your throat." Luffy pulls the barrel and gulps excessively. Chaos erupts as the crew fights over the water: "PLEASE STOP FIGHTING! YOU'LL ONLY TIRES YOURSELVES OUT EVEN MORE!", "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT FOR! I SPAT OUT THE WATER 'CAUSE OF YOU SO IT DOESN'T COUNT!", "GIVE ME SOME WATER! YOU JUST HAD LIKE, 13 GULPS!", and "THAT'S WAY TOO MUCH!". Luffy spits dramatically with "PFFFF!" amid impact effects.

The Straw Hats trudge through the endless desert dunes under the blazing sun. Vivi apologizes, "I'm sorry Luffy, but we're only a quarter of the way to Yuba right now." Sanji pleads, "Vivi, let's have lunch already. I don't have any strength..." Luffy refuses, "No. Not until Vivi says ok." He then excitedly points at Sanji, "Hey Sanji, let's open up that special 'Pirate Lunchbox' now!" In the next panel Vivi suggests, "Alright, how does a break at the next rock we walk by soundI" Usopp protests, "Hey, don't just make up stuff now." Luffy shouts, "EAT WHEN THE STOMACH GROWLS." Sanji retorts, "Well that's a pretty stupid reason. Haven't you ever heard of the proverb." Luffy wanders off calling, "RockI Where are you, rock...I" The group cheers, "Woohoo! To a rock we go!" as they press onward across the sand.

Luffy and Usopp strain under the weight of their massive backpacks, sweat pouring down as they groan, "HEAVY... AND HOT..." and "so HEAVY..." with SFX ズル... ズル.... Someone warns from behind, "Make sure not to drop our bags!" Usopp complains, "UGH..." The group continues across the dunes. Suddenly Luffy spots something and yells, "HOLY CRAP, HE'S FAST!" as a figure dashes away with impact SFX ドヒュン!! and ガバーン. The crew reacts in shock: "BREAK TIME!" "REALLY!I" "AGHHH! ROCK SIGHTED AT 12 O'CLOCK!"

The exhausted crew reaches ancient stone ruins. Luffy collapses with relief, "FINALLY, A SHADE! AWWW... IT FEELS GREAT!" as he slumps down with a loud THUD and SFX ズザザザー...!! Nearby a large bird lies injured, groaning "GOH..." Luffy peeks out curiously, "HmmI" Vivi calls out, "HuhI Why's he running back hereI" Luffy waves frantically, "GUYS, COME QUICK!" Nami shouts in alarm, "NO, LUFFY! WAIT!" as Chopper cries, "INJURED BIRDSI COULD IT BE...I" Luffy yells, "Chopper! You've gotta help them! There's some injured birds over here!" with SFX はっ!!

The crew stares in horror at the empty spot where their luggage once sat. Someone yells, "AGHH! OUR STUFF IS ALL GONE!" with large SFX ガラン...!! Vivi realizes, "We've been had... AND THE BIRDS THAT WERE HERE JUST A MOMENT AGO ARE GONE TOO!" A footnote notes the Japanese pun on heron and swindler. In the next scene the hooded figures discuss: "HERONS PRETENDING TO BE HURT...!I WHAT A FLOCK OF SWINDLERS!" "It's my fault for not warning you earlier..." "Those were swindle-herons. They trick passing travellers to steal their luggage for food and water." One replies, "Yes." The other concludes, "Hence the name." with SFX どーん.

Luffy and a hooded companion argue furiously in the desert heat. "WELL IT'S TOO LATE TO COMPLAIN NOW! I'VE ALREADY BEEN TRICKED!" "HOW THE HELL DO YOU EXPECT US TO SURVIVE WITHOUT ANY FOOD OR WATER IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS DESERT!I" "AND YOU JUST HAD TO LOSE IT TO SOME DAMN BIRDS OUT OF ALL THINGS!" "THERE WERE 3-DAYS' WORTH OF SUPPLIES IN THERE!" "OH, SO YOU'RE DUMBER THAN A BIRD NOW, IS THAT IT!I" "WHAT WAS THAT!I" An unseen voice orders, "PIPE DOWN, YOU TWO!" The group reaches a shaded rocky area. Vivi says, "Yes. Since Yuba's an oasis town, all we have to do is hold out until then. Losing those supplies won't be the death of us." Sanji suggests, "Let's rest here for a bit. The heat's making you all lose your temper so just cool your heads in the shades here....We'll be able to reach Yuba by night, right ViviI" Luffy gulps water loudly from a barrel, "GULP GULP!" He declares, "We'll head out again after 10 minutes of rest. So let's just forget about what happened, lest we tire ourselves out even more."

A giant bird-like creature snatches their supplies and flees. Luffy yells, "GIVE BACK OUR STUFF!" while the bird squawks "GOHHH!" Luffy charges after it shouting "DAMMIT!" Nami calls out, "...Idiot." She warns, "NAMI'S RIGHT! AND YOU'LL ONLY TIRE YOURSELF OUT!" "NO, LUFFY! DON'T CHASE AFTER THEM! YOU'RE ONLY GOING TO GET YOURSELF LOST!" Luffy presses on through the sandstorm as massive impact lines and dust clouds erupt. He shouts, "WHAT IS IT THIS TIME!I" while the creature continues its rampage with loud "ZUDODODODO" effects and Luffy screams "AAAAA AGHHH HHHHH HHHHH HHHHH!"

Sanji's eyes widen in shock. "It's a Sandora Monitor Lizard!" Vivi cries, "He's being chased by something!" A colossal lizard bursts from the dunes with a thunderous "DON!!" roar, its jaws gaping wide. "IT'S HUUUGE!" The Straw Hats stare up at the monster in awe. Luffy growls, "DAMN THIS LIZARD..." Sanji mutters, "Just what kind of star was he born under to be fated to so much trouble..." while shielding his face. "Let's set aside the fact that there's a camel running beside him for now while we take care of this..."

Luffy launches a furious assault on the giant Sandora Monitor Lizard. He stretches his limbs and unleashes a barrage of Gum-Gum attacks: "WHIP!" "MAKI!" (Dragon Tornado) "SHOOT!" (Shoulder Shoot) The lizard thrashes violently as Luffy's rubber limbs whip and slam into it with massive impact effects. The creature's jaws snap shut around empty air while Luffy continues striking from multiple angles. Sanji watches and comments, "GOMU GOMU... TATSU... ÉPAULE..." The lizard reels from the rapid strikes as dust and debris fly everywhere.

The Straw Hats pause in the desert as a massive lizard flees into the distance. Sanji remarks, "Yeah, looks like it." Usopp suggests, "Hey Sanji, we can eat this, rightI" while another voice adds, "Yeah, you really gotta sympathize with the poor beast when it's up against those 3..." and "To think they'd go so far against a poor animal..." A narration box notes, "Great! Perfect time for a lunch too!" The group then encounters a camel stuck among frying-pan-shaped rocks. Sanji explains, "And before I knew it, there was this big lizard in front of me chasing after this camel. That's about when I started running back here." Usopp says, "I dunno. I was busy chasing those birds earlier but they flew away." Someone asks, "So... What's up with this camelI" The rocks are identified as nature's frying pans. The camel reacts wildly as the crew considers riding it. Sanji declares, "Alright, then I'll just..." while the camel protests with "VOOOO!" and "AGH! WHAT'S UP WITH THIS CAMELI" The group concludes, "Oh, that'll be useful. It looks like up to 2 people can ride on it." and "Hey, that means we can ride it! Especially since there's already a saddle on it and all. It doesn't look like a wild camel." Usopp adds, "Nothing beats a camel when walking across the desert!"

The camel refuses, stating, "I'm not the type to give males a ride... Is what he just said." Chopper translates the camel's words: "Now, although I can give you humans a ride..." and "I'm a harmless camel passing-by. I must thank you for saving my life back there just now." The crew pets and comforts the camel. Nami asks, "There, there. You're a good boy, aren't youI Now what should you call youI" The camel reacts with hearts as Chopper suggests names. The group debates: "How about 'Eyelashes'I" "Octopus." "Dumbass." "Idiot." Vivi comments, "I think that was the weirdest name suggested yet." With the camel secured, Nami smiles and says, "We should be able to reach Yuba a little sooner now that we have a camel." Vivi urges, "Oh, just get on." The camel is labeled "Perverted camel" by the crew. Vivi insists, "Vivi, get on!" but replies, "No, I'm fine. I can still walk some more."

Luffy mounts the camel named Eyelashes and charges ahead, shouting, "HEY, WAIT FOR US!" and "LET'S GO, EYE-LASHES!" The camel bolts with speed lines and "UOO!" cries. In the distance, a voice calls, "Hurry up, you guys! If you guys keep lagging behind, you might not survive the desert, you knowI" A rock formation seems to form a face, with text noting, "Oh, you too are still just as lovely when you're being cruel, Nami!" Suddenly Luffy reacts in panic, yelling, "ARE YOU FOR REAL!I" The scene cuts to Luffy convulsing and shouting, "OH, FOR THE LOVE OF...! WHAT IS IT THIS TIMEI WHAT'S GOTTEN INTO YOU, LUFFYI" as his eyes spiral and he screams, "TSUNAMI ALERT!"

Chopper examines Luffy and exclaims, "HE WHAT!I You mean this one hereI" Someone explains, "I tried to stop him but Luffy ate some weird cactus around here along with the lizard meat." Luffy wonders, "Because of whatI" and panics, "Ahhh! Crap, maybe it's because of that...!" Chopper identifies the plant: "OH NO! THIS IS THE MESCAL CACTUS! HAL-LUCINOGENS ARE MADE FROM IT!" Luffy begins transforming, roaring, "GOMU GOMU..." and "ALRIGHT GUYS! LET'S COMBINE OUR STRENGTH AND BLOW IT AWAY!" The crew reacts in alarm. Sanji yells, "C'MON! WE'VE GOT TO CATCH UP TO THEM!" while noting the camel has run off. Chopper uses a syringe, declaring, "GOOD JOB, CHOPPER! Tranquilized!" as Luffy is knocked out with "FWIP!" and "くぉー" sound effects.

Under a blazing sun, two robed figures stand in the desert as a small creature floats nearby with speech bubbles reading "D..." and "A...". A fallen person lies at their feet. The scene shifts to a rocky canyon where the robed group tends to the injured. Distant figures flee from a roaring striped beast. Close-ups show a masked face and a circular object. Luffy appears with wide eyes and a question mark, then clutches his face in shock. The group rides camels across the dunes with Vivi and others. Night falls as the moon rises over the desert; the caravan continues under moonlight with long shadows stretching across the sand.

The desert night brings a sudden chill. Voices exclaim, "SUB-ZERO!I" "WHATI" and "That's normal. It can reach sub-zero temperatures in the desert at nighttime." Another asks, "What's with the sudden drop in temperatureI" and notes, "It's finally night..." SFX rumble with "ヒュオオオオ...". The camel caravan presses on through blowing sand. Luffy shields his eyes and complains, "I can't see with all this sand blowing in my face...". Vivi points ahead and shouts, "Are we finally here at Yuba!I" A companion replies, "Over there! I think I can see something!". A close-up shows a sweating face with wide eyes declaring, "...SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT WITH THE TOWN!". Distant rumbling echoes as someone wonders, "What's that weird rumbling sound...I" accompanied by large SFX "ブォォォォ".
