The God Valley Incident

Thirty-nine years ago on Hachinosu (Pirate Island), total chaos erupts. A massive skull-shaped structure looms over the town as rain pours and impact lines fill the air. Pirates shout in panic: '...I!', 'DID YOU LOOK EVERYWHEREI!', and 'ALL HELL HAS BROKEN LOOSE!'. A large muscular pirate with a scarred face growls in shock. Others yell: 'IT CAN'T BE!! WHO THE HELL DID THISI!', 'THE DON COULDN'T PROTECT HERI!', and 'THEY WERE ON GUARD DUTY LAST NIGHT!! DON MARLON AND THE OTHERS WERE KILLED!!'. A box notes: 'IT ONLY TOOK THE PERPETRATING PARTY A FEW HOURS, BUT...'. In the next panel, a voice cries out: 'SOMEONE KIDNAPPED OUR SHAKKY!!!'. A long-haired woman looks on in surprise as a furious man with wild hair and a scar roars: 'HUHI! WHAT ARE YOU SAYIN'I!'.

The pirates are distraught and shaking with rage. One cries: 'PLEASE BE OKAY, SHAKKY!'. A woman with long hair weeps in despair while a grinning man with wild hair declares: 'THEY LEFT BEHIND NO TRACE...'. The scene shifts to a furious man with a topknot shouting: 'HOW COULD YOU LET THIS HAPPENI! I'M GONNA KICK YOUR ASS!! DAMN YOU, ROCKS!'. A box states: 'WORD SPREAD ACROSS THE SEAS...'. Narration continues: '...AS THE WORLD'S ECONOMY SANK INTO DEEP DESPAIR. THEIR SMILES FADING...'. The Kuja Pirates' ship appears with the text 'KUJA PIRATES EMB'. Shakky is shown in close-up with tears, and another woman reacts with shock as sound effects of screams echo across the island.

One year later in God Valley, West Blue, a grand rocky formation rises from the sea. A woman calls out: 'SHAMROCK, SHANKS! IT'S YOUR FATHER!'. A tall armored man with a crown stands proudly as a voice shouts: 'GARLING!!'. Another exclaims: 'I ALWAYS KNEW YOU'D COME BACK!' and 'I'M SO HAPPY!!'. Garling replies with a heart symbol. In the next scene, a woman with a scar on her face says: 'HUHI'. Garling speaks: 'WELL... IF WE WERE TO SHARE A HOME, IT CERTAINLY WOULDN'T BE HERE. THIS ISLAND WON'T BE AROUND MUCH LONGER.'. Two young twin boys wave excitedly, one saying: 'WHY DON'T YOU STAY HERE WITH ME...I' and the other replying: 'YEAH, THEY'RE MY KIDS!'. Garling notes: 'TWINS, HUHI HOW PRECIOUS.'. A box reads: 'TOURNEYI'. Garling continues: 'SHE WILL BE MINE, PROVIDED I TRIUMPH IN THE UPCOMING TOURNEY. BESIDES, I'VE ALREADY SECURED A WORTHY BRIDE FOR MYSELF AND PLACED THE ORDER.'.

A cloaked figure strides across a barren shore, sword drawn, as terrified civilians scream and flee. "GWAAH!! EEEAH! WAHH!" A large hand reaches forward amid the chaos. Marines charge onto the beach in formation. "MAKING LANDFALL NOW! YES, SIR!" A stern Marine officer commands, "BEGIN THE PREPARATIONS..." Orders ring out: "IF THEY DON'T RESIST, JUST CAPTURE THEM. LIMIT YOURSELVES TO TRANQUILIZER ROUNDS." Civilians panic as Navy ships encircle the island. "ARE THEY SEARCHING FOR SOME VILE CRIMINALI THAT'S RIGHT, THEY'VE SURROUNDED THE WHOLE ISLAND!! NAVY SHIPS FROM THE WORLD GOVERNMENT...I GET THE CHILDREN INSIDE!"

Marines confront each other amid the operation. "MY APOLOGIES! HE'S STILL IN TRAINING! SQUAD LEADER!! WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THIS UPSTARTI! BUT...!" An officer barks, "IT'S A TRAINING EXERCISE! NOW ZIP IT! YOU'RE TEN YEARS TOO EARLY TO BE QUESTIONING ORDERS, CADET! LIEUTENANT COMMANDER! WHAT EXACTLY IS THE GOAL OF THIS OPERATIONI" A woman and child are seized. "WHATI! DO NOT RESIST! KEEP STILL!!! KYAAH! EXCUSE ME! WHAT'S GOING ONI!" A bearded Marine roars, "JUST FOCUS ON COMPLETING THE MISSION!! DON'T QUESTION IT! THERE'S NO ROOM FOR PERSONAL DOUBTS WHEN FOLLOWING MILITARY ORDERS! THESE ARE JUST ORDINARY CIVILIANS!! BUT WHYI! RUN! THEY'RE CAPTURING EVERYONE!"

Young Monkey D. Dragon, sweating and intense, aims a tranquilizer gun. "IT'S OKAY... TRANQUILIZER ROUNDS SHOULDN'T KILL ANYONE!! HUFF... HUFF..." A Marine threatens, "I DUNNO WHAT'S GOIN' ON, BUT I'M LEAVIN' OUTTA THE WAY! SORRY. IF YOU LET ME DETAIN YOU, I WON'T SHOOT!" Gunfire erupts. "BAM! BAM!" A box labels the shooter: "MARINE MONKEY D. DRAGON (FUTURE SUPREME COMMANDER OF THE REVOLUTIONARY ARMY) FATHER OF LUFFY". Smoke fills the air. "IT'S SLEEPING GAS! PUT ON YOUR MASKS! HUFF... HUFF...!!"

A massive Navy prison ship labeled "MARINE" cuts through the waves, marked "NAVY PRISON SHIP (TRANSPORTING SLAVES)". Inside the communications room, a Marine mutters, "COULD'VE SWORN I SAW SOMEONE... HMI" Chained prisoners huddle together. "DON'T BE LOUD... YOU TWO... AND DON'T DO ANYTHING RASH... YOU'LL GET US PUNISHED TOO... PUNISHEDI" A curly-haired woman shouts, "I DID IT! GINNY! YOU'RE SAFE! WHAT A RELIEF! BIG BRO!"

In a dark holding area, chained slaves grow rowdy as one yells "WAH! GYAA!!" and another notes "THE SLAVES ARE GETTING ROWDY!" A large man with an afro smiles and remarks "SO... THERE ARE STILL SLAVES WITH SPIRIT." Nearby, a furious prisoner with wild hair and a metal collar roars "MIRACLES ARE NOT SO EASY TO COME BY!!" while shouting "MORON! DO YOU WANT TO DIE WITH NO KNOWLEDGE OF WHERE THEY ARE TAKING USI!" and "YOU NEED TO TRY IF YOU WANT TO BE SAVED!" The scene shifts to a coastal overlook where Morgans, president of the World Economic Journal, stands with suited men. He gestures and says "YOU'D RATHER KEEP THIS STORY QUIET, RIGHTI" One man replies "LET'S SKIP TO THE PART WHERE YOU PAY ME OFF!" Another warns "DON'T BE COY! YOU GUYS MUST'VE CAUGHT WIND OF THAT TRANSMISSION TOO." A voice asks "WHAT IS IT THIS TIMEI" and another states "YOU HAVE MORE ABSURD INTELI" A sign reads "CIPHER POL INTELLIGENCE BUREAU." Morgans continues "KUWA HA HA! JUST TRY AND STOP ME!" as a man in glasses laughs "HE'S JUST SOME KID RUNNING A LOCAL PAPER WITH A FANCY NAME! HOW DOES HE KEEP GETTING INTEL LIKE THISI!" A stern man warns "DON'T PUSH YOUR LUCK! YOU'LL BE ERASED." Morgans concludes "FOOLS, I'M GONNA LEAK NEWS TO PIRATE ISLAND EITHER WAY..."

Explosions and hearts fill the air over a tropical island as voices cry "I'M SO RELIEVED!!" "IS THIS FOR REALI!" "SHE'S STILL ALIVE...I!" "IT'S SHAKKY...!!!" and "GOD VALLEYI! WHERE'S THATI!" A massive impact erupts with the sound effect "ドカーン" and hearts. The long-haired man shouts "SHAKKY-CHAAAN!!" while a group including a bandaged fighter, a woman in a cowboy hat, and others react in shock. One declares "SO THOSE DAMN GOVERNMENT BASTARDS WERE THE ONES WHO KIDNAPPED HERI!" Another realizes "SHE'S GONNA BE A PRIZE IN A CELESTIAL DRAGON TOURNAMENTI!" A voice adds "THERE'S NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. THE NAVY'S IN TURMOIL." A suspicious figure growls "THIS SMELLS FISHY... CAN WE TRUST THIS SOURCEI" In close-up panels, the bandaged man yells "WHAT IF THIS IS SOME SORT OF TRAPI!" and "SHUT UP...!!" while others debate "WHAT DO THESE ONES DOI" "DIDN'T YOU WANT ONEI" and "LOOKS LIKE THEY'RE PUTTING DEVIL FRUITS UP FOR GRABS TOO, KAIDO." A woman smiles "THESE FRUITS COULD BE PERFECT FOR MY KIDS...!!" The long-haired man concludes "I ALWAYS FIGURED THAT WAS A BASELESS RUMOR. THE CELESTIAL DRAGONS' HUMAN HUNT..."

A massive, scarred warrior with wild hair bellows "LET'S MOVE!! GOD VALLEY AWAITS!!" and "IF YOU'VE GOT COLD FEET, YOU CAN JUST STAY BEHIND ON THE ISLAND!!" The Roger Pirates respond enthusiastically. One shouts "'COURSE WE ARE!!" Another calls "Y'ALL ARE WITH ME, RIGHT, FELLASI!" A small figure on the ship yells "IT'S PRETTY FAR, BUT WE SHOULD MAKE IT IN TIME!!" and "GYABAN!! WHERE'S GOD VALLEYI!" The ship sails under the Roger Pirates flag amid hearts and motion lines. In the lower panels, a fierce man commands "LEAD WITH THAT NEXT TIME!! I'M ON MY WAY!!" while another notes "IT SEEMS ROGER'S HEADING THERE TOO!!" A narration box states "IT WAS AN UNLIKELY TURN OF EVENTS, BUT THIS SMALL LEAK..." as Rocks appears with a determined glare, declaring "ROCKS IS ALREADY ON THE MOVE! WE CAN'T LET HIM GET AHEAD!" A giant ornate ship crashes through the waves with the sound effect "ビョオオオ" as crew members shout "WAIT!!" "WHAT IS IT, ROCKSI! WE CAN'T STOP NOW!!" and "IT'S A GIANT SHIP!!" One yells "WHO CARESI! SINK IT!!" Rocks spots a distant vessel and growls "SEE THAT VESSEL OVER THEREI IT'S A GOVERNMENT SURVEILLANCE SHIP." A horned warrior in armor warns "YOU KNOW, IF WE FOUGHT WITHOUT ANY REGARD FOR OUR OWN LIVES, WE COULD SINK YOUR PUNY LITTLE SHIP WITH EASE." Another figure adds "THEY SAID YOUR ENTIRE CREW WAS OBSESSED WITH THIS WOMAN. THAT'S HOW I KNEW I'D BE ABLE TO INTERCEPT YOU HERE, ROCKS." In the intense close-ups, Rocks retorts "WHY DON'T WE TALK IT OUTI JUST THE TWO OF US." The armored man sneers "...AND WATCH AS WE TEAR EACH OTHER APARTI! ARE YA REALLY CONTENT TO LET THE GOVERNMENT SIT BACK..." while mocking "YOU'RE NOTHIN' BUT A GIANT LUNATIC, CLINGIN' TO YER DELUDED VERSION OF PROGRESS!!" and "SO YOU'RE STILL TRYING TO CURRY FAVOR BY PLAYIN' THE GOVERNMENT'S LAPDOGI! YOU MAY BE KING OF THE OVERGROWN BRUTES, BUT YOU'RE UNDERESTIMATIN' US!!"

A shadowy figure speaks in confidence aboard a ship. "LISTEN. THIS IS FOR YOUR EARS ONLY. I AIN'T GONNA TELL ANYONE ELSE, NOT EVEN MY OWN CREW. AND WHAT WE'RE DOIN'... YA MUST HAVE AN IDEA WHERE WE'RE GOIN'..." In another scene, a wild-haired man with sharp teeth rages, "I BET EVEN NOW MY SHARKY'S CALLING FOR HELP!!" Nearby figures react as one says, "THAT BASTARD... WE DON'T HAVE TIME TO ERASE IT EASY...I" and another addresses, "YOUR MAJESTY, WHY TALK TO HIM...I!" The central focus shifts to a massive seated man with horns and a scarred face who declares, "IT'S DAVY D. XEBEC." A close-up shows his intense glare as he adds, "I'VE GOT A HIDDEN NAME." The wild-haired man continues, "BACK TO MY HOMETOWN. TOLD 'EM TO... 'COUNT ON THE DAVY CLAN!' TO KEEP 'EM TOTALLY SAFE, I SENT MY FAMILY AWAY... BUT TWO YEARS AGO, I HAD A KID. I AIN'T SURE IF THE TIMIN' WAS GOOD OR BAD..." A massive ship sails into view as he reveals, "GOD VALLEY. MY HOMETOWN IS..." The horned man reacts with shock, "!!I" and questions, "I SEE... SO YOUR KIN... YOUR WIFE AND CHILD ARE BACK IN YOUR HOMETOWN. BUT WHY ARE YOU REVEALING YOUR WEAK SPOT TO MEI" The wild-haired man grins fiercely, "THEY JUST MADE A MISTAKE. NAH. THE CELESTIAL DRAGONS ARE GATHERIN' THERE RIGHTI THEY WOULDN'T WANT ME CRASHING THEIR PARTY. ARE YOU SAYING THE GOVERNMENT STAGED THIS JUST TO LURE YOU INI"

The horned man reflects, "BUT IT DOESN'T FEEL LIKE LUCK'S ON MY SIDE ANYMORE, HARALD. TAKIN' SHAKKY WAS THEIR BIGGEST BLUNDER. DRAGGIN' ME BACK... STILL... IT FEELS LIKE DESTINY IS PULLIN' ME IN." He demands, "LEND ME A HAND!!" as long as his wife and child reach safety. Chaos erupts on deck with shouts of "HUHI! DON'T INTERFERE." and "BRING IT ON!!!" A figure yells, "IS THAT SO...I NO WAY! I'M GONNA SINK YOU RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW!" A dramatic panel shows the ship "ROCKS" under attack amid smoke and debris as narration states, "...AND TURN IT INTO A HUNTING GROUND, WHERE THEY SLAUGHTER ALL THE NATIVES FOR SPORT. IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE, BUT EVERY THREE YEARS... THE CELESTIAL DRAGONS CHOOSE AN UNAFFILIATED NATION RICH IN RESOURCES..." A terrified man screams, "HELP US!!! HOW CAN THIS BE ALLOWED TO HAPPENI!" while another cries, "YOU COWARDLY RAT!!!"

Flashbacks depict the chaos of the God Valley Incident with civilians pleading, "DON'T LET HIM TAKE THEM... MY KIDS... YOU HAVE TO GET THEM OFF THE ISLAND... PLEASE HELP...!!" A young curly-haired boy is urged, "COME HERE, TEACH, IT'LL BE ALRIGHT. YOU HAVE TO SURVIVE...!!!" The scene shifts to a grand tournament arena filled with cheering crowds and heart effects. A beautiful woman stands prominently as narration declares, "THE DAY OF THE GOD VALLEY INCIDENT... HER NAME IS SHAKUYAKU!!! BEHOLD THEIR FORMER EMPRESS, THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD... IN ONE OF THE CALM BELTS OF THE GRAND LINE LIES THE ISLE OF WOMEN!! WE NOW PRESENT THE GRAND PRIZE OF THIS TOURNAMENT, BEYOND ALL THE RARE DEVIL FRUITS UP FOR GRABS!!" Spectators shout, "WOOOOW!!! SHE'S GORGEOUS!! I WANT HER!" and "WHAT AN AMAZING PRIZE, SUMMERS!! YOU'D BETTER WIN HER FOR THE SHEPHERD FAMILY!!" A man declares, "SHE'LL BE MY WIFE. QUIT DREAMING, SUMMERS.
