The Weight of Memory

High above the island, a floating figure on a small craft declares, "I bear witness to this achievement......and I maintain that it is a huge step toward world peace!!" while a small creature cries "WAAH!!" Narration notes: "Even if the world does not accept how she came to be... the girl is unmistakably human!! It was a success!! A REMARKABLE STEP..." Below, Dr. Vegapunk, Chief of MADS, The Laboratory of Peace, lies injured on the ground clutching a blonde figure as both wail "WAAAH!!" and "WAAH!!" A voice sobs, "IT HURTS! I THINK I BROKE SOMETHING!" In the next scene a frantic figure with wild hair shouts "HURRY!!! BONNEY'S BEEN INJURED!!" while another cries "GLINT!!" and "DEAR ME!! ARE YOU ALL RIGHTI MEDICS, LOOK ALIVE!!" A close-up shows a panicked face yelling "BONNEY!!!"

Action erupts as a helmeted figure is hurled through the air with the cry "...FUTURE!!" while another shouts "WHOA!!" and "DISTORTED..." A mustached man yells in shock. An explosion rocks the scene with massive impact SFX "ゴゴゴン!!" as a small creature is blasted away screaming "GYAH!!" and a spiky-haired figure cries "HYAA!!" A close-up shows a determined face. From below, a voice states "EVEN IF YOU KILL ME... TIMELY..." while another desperately calls "BONNEY!! STOP THIS!!"

The mustached man is sent flying with a powerful thrust, screaming "GYAAAAA AAAH!!" as the attacker yells "...THRUST!!" Nearby a small figure gasps "AGH..." with SFX "しるる" while another grunts "UGH..." and a star-shaped impact appears with "POP!" A dazed character mutters "DAG-NABBIT!!" as a tall figure in a bodysuit stands amid rubble holding a staff, declaring "I SUPPOSE THESE SHINY DOO-DADS ARE A MANIFESTATION OF THE YEARS I JUST LOST." A woman with headphones exhales "HUFF." twice while looking on tensely.

The man in the black hat and spotted cloak thrashes amid rubble, eyes wide with panic. "MY POWER DOESN'T LAST FOREVER ON LIVING THINGS!!" he cries. "CALM DOWN," another voice urges. He reaches out desperately: "GIVE ME BACK MY GOLDEN YEARS!!" A tall figure looms behind him, weapon raised. "YOU'VE TURNED ME INTO A HELPLESS CHILD!!" he wails. Bonney appears in close-up, sweat on her face, expression fierce. "B-BUT BONNEY!! IF I TELL YOU..." the man stammers from the side. Bonney glares, teeth bared. "YOU SAID YOU HAD A REASONI WELL YOU BETTER START TALKING. WHY THE HELL DID YOU KILL MY FATHERI!" The man recoils in shock. "HUHI!" A large speech bubble declares: "IF I DIVULGED THE REASON... IT WOULD ONLY SERVE TO HURT YOU!!" He clutches his head: "THAT'S WHY I CAN'T..." In the background, a sign reads "RED PORT." Figures point upward at a massive red line. "...TO CLIMB THE RED LINE!! LOOK! KUMA'S TRYING..." one shouts. "THERE'S NO WAY HE'LL MAKE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP!!" another exclaims as the man collapses, panting.

Kuma clings to a metal beam, face bloodied and desperate. "...THAT I WOULD KEEP HIS SECRET FROM YOU NO MATTER WHAT!!!" he shouts. "I PROMISED KUMA..." Bonney stares in shock, sweat dripping. "!!I" In a vast industrial chamber filled with machinery and numbered panels, Kuma stands firing a weapon. "I'M NOT TRYING TO PULL A FAST ONE HERE!!" he yells. "DO I LOOK LIKE I WAS BORN YESTERDAYI! STOP SCREWING AROUND!!" Bonney demands. "YOU'VE GOTTA BELIEVE ME!!" Kuma fires again amid smoke and sparks. "YOU'RE SAYING YOU CAN'T TELL ME......WHY YOU HAD TO KILL MY DADI!" she presses. Bonney's face twists in anguish. "IT'S BEEN HARD ON ME TOO!!" she cries. "YOU LIAR!! DAD WOULD NEVER CHOOSE TO DIE AND ABANDON ME!! I'LL KILL YOU!!" Kuma retorts, "NOBODY MADE THE DECISION FOR HIM! KUMA CHOSE THAT FATE FOR HIMSELF!!" Bonney screams, "I WISH I COULD FORGET THE WHOLE ORDEAL!!"

Explosions rock the area as Marines fire rifles. "I'VE ALWAYS BEEN PROUD TO CALL HIM MY CLOSE FRIEND!!" Kuma declares amid smoke and debris. "KUMA'S AN INCREDIBLE MAN!!" A Marine with headphones shouts, "BONNEY, PLEASE UNDERSTAND!! I CAN'T SAY ANYTHING MORE ON THE MATTER!!" Bonney lunges forward, striking the man. "GYAH!! THIS IS CHILD ABUSE!!" he yelps. "BEEP BEEP BEEP" sounds from a device. "JUST SPIT IT OUT!!" Bonney demands. "I'M NOT GONNA BLINDLY SWALLOW YOUR HALF-ASSED EXCUSES!!" The man is knocked down in a cloud of dust. "PAY NO ATTENTION TO WHAT'S OVER THERE!! IT'S GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH KUMA, YOU HEAR!!" he pleads. Bonney walks away. "BONNEY, WAIT!!" he calls. She turns with a surprised "HUHI" as another figure reacts "AH!!" Bonney's face shows shock and tears.

A hand crushes a device amid sparks. "OIL BREAKDOWN!!" reads the effect. "BONNEY!!" echoes as she stands alone in shadow. Bonney approaches a massive control panel, hand extended. "....!!!" she reacts as alarms blare. A door marked "KEEP OUT" and "CAUTION" swings shut behind her. "THAT'S OBVIOUSLY A LIE!!" she thinks. In a vast circular chamber lined with glowing orbs and machinery, Bonney stands before a brilliant white light at the center. "PANT..." she breathes heavily, sweat on her face. The glowing core pulses intensely as she stares into it, the room filled with mechanical arms and numbered panels.

Inside a high-tech lab filled with glowing monitors and scribbled equations, a curly-haired scientist discusses the soul with Vegapunk. "THAT A PERSON LOSES 21 GRAMS OF MASS UPON DEATH, AND THAT COULD BE CONSIDERED THE WEIGHT OF THEIR SOUL," he states. "THAT'S RIGHT. A SCIENTIST OUT IN WEST BLUE ONCE POSTULATED..." Vegapunk replies, sweat flying, "MEMORIESI" The scientist continues, "IF NOTHING ELSE, SUCH A LINK WOULD PROVE THAT THE SOUL DOES IN FACT EXIST! FASCINATING, ISN'T ITI!" Vegapunk, seated and gesturing, asks, "SO I'M WONDERING IF THAT SAME LOGIC CAN BE APPLIED TO OTHER NERVOUS SIGNALS... CAN WE DETERMINE WHETHER THINGS LIKE 'IMAGINATION' AND 'MEMORIES' HAVE MASS AND VOLUME AS WELLI!" The scientist excitedly explains, "A TOTAL WIRELESS TRANSMISSION OF NERVE SIGNALS!! NOT ONLY THAT, BUT YOU CAN EVEN TRANSFER IT TO OTHERS!! AND YOUR POWER CAN TAKE SOMETHING INTANGIBLE LIKE PAIN AND GIVE IT A PHYSICAL FORM..." Vegapunk leans forward, "SO YOU WANT ME TO PULL OUT MY OWN MEMORIES AND SHOW YOUI" The scientist pleads desperately, "NO. NOBODY ELSE WOULD SEE THEM, I PROMISE!! PLEASE!! IT WILL HELP ME ADVANCE SCIENCE!! PLEAAASE, I'M BEGGING YOU!!" Vegapunk refuses flatly, "THAT'S FAR TOO PERSONAL."

Bonney stares in horror as a distant figure stands near a massive pink bubble. "IT'S MORE THAN ENOUGH TO KILL SOMEONE!" she realizes. "NO..." A voice warns, "DON'T TOUCH THAT, BONNEY! I'M SURE YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH KUMA'S POWERS... THERE'S NOTHING THERE BUT PAIN!!" Bonney whispers, "ALL TOO WELL." Explosions erupt as Marines open fire. "I KNOW MY FATHER'S ABILITY... DON'T LET HIM GET TO MARY GEOISE!! SHOOT HIM DOWN!!" someone shouts. A direct hit lands with massive impact. "DIRECT HIT!!" Marines yell, "HE'S STILL ALIVE!! MAKE SURE YOU FINISH HIM OFF!! In a massive explosion of debris and impact lines, the giraffe-man unleashes his attack as the panel reads "NOSE GUN..."

The giraffe-man spins wildly with zig-zagging attacks amid smoke and debris. A voice declares, "I HAD MY FILL FIGHTING CRITTERS... WITH ZIG-ZAGGING ATTACKS BACK IN WANO!!" The opponent is labeled "GIRAFFE-MAN GYRO!!" as massive impact effects erupt. Elsewhere, a stern man with a headband glares and says, "QUICKLY, BEFORE VEGAPUNK GETS HERE... SERAPHIM!" A cloaked figure shouts, "I'M TIRED OF IT!" Below, a wide-eyed scientist yells, "DESTROY THE LABO-STRATUM!" while a frog-like creature and others react in panic. Explosions and motion lines fill the panels as the lab is targeted.

Panic spreads as characters react in horror. One screams, "AHHHH!" while another yells, "THEY'RE GOING TO ANNIHILATE THE LAB!" A cyborg-like figure shouts, "THIS IS BAD!!" A massive wide shot shows the Vegapunk laboratory complex exploding violently in the sky, with the structure labeled "VEGAPUNK" amid smoke, debris, and flying figures. Below, a woman with long hair and a small creature are caught in the blast as voices cry, "KYAAA!!" and "UWAAA!!" Someone notes, "THEY'RE BASICALLY DOING OUR JOB FOR US." Another adds, "THEY SURE KNOW HOW TO RAZZLE-DAZZLE!"
