In front of Caesar's research facility, the G-5 Marines still pound at the shutters and shout, "GIVE US BACK OUR SMOKE-YAN AND TASHIGI-CHAN!!" and "LISTEN HERE!! YOU OPEN UP THOSE SHUTTERS!!" One Marine notices the balloon and cries, "HEY! WHAT IS THAT BALLOON?!!" Caesar leads the children toward it, saying, "NOW, COME ALONG, CHILDREN! THIS IS YOUR HOME...!! I HOPE YOU WON'T VENTURE OUTSIDE SO CARELESSLY IN FUTURE!!" The children, exhausted and shaking, beg, "THE CANDY... GIVE US CANDY... QUICKLY...!" and "MASTER...!! THE CANDY...!!" Caesar has recovered them and is moving them back under lock and drugged control.

Caesar reassures the children with another lie. "NEVER FEAR! YOU WILL HAVE YOUR CANDY SOON ENOUGH!" he says, then tells them to hurry to the biscuit room because he has left plenty of candy there. "NOW HURRY ALONG TO YOUR ROOM, CHILDREN... AND SAVOUR THE TASTE OF THAT DELICIOUS CANDY...!!" The children cheer "YAAAAAAAY!!!" with blank, addicted faces. Caesar orders one of his men, "YOU...!! LISTEN CAREFULLY. ONCE THE CHILDREN ARE SAFELY BACK IN THEIR ROOM... LOCK THE DOORS TIGHT AND DON'T EVER LET THEM OUT AGAIN!!" The children follow the Sheep-guy toward the room, thinking only of candy.

Mocha hesitates while the other children obey. She pants, "...THIS PLACE IS...SCARY..." and the Sheep-guy asks, "OI!! WHAT'S WRONG, BRAT - I MEAN, LITTLE GIRL? WHY DON'T YOU HURRY BACK TO YOUR ROOM WITH THE OTHERS..." Mocha imagines the candy and whispers, "...DELICIOUS CANDY?!" but the thought turns to terror. She screams, "AAAAHHHHHHH!!!" and runs. Usopp and Sanji call after the children, "WAIT, ALL OF YOU!!! YOU MUSTN'T GO BACK TO HIM!!" and "DON'T GO TO HIM!!! DO YOU REALLY WANT TO GO BACK TO THAT LAB?!!" Mocha's fear is the first crack in Caesar's control over the group.

Mocha breaks from the line completely. The other children ask, "MOCHA...?" and call, "COME ON, QUICK! LET'S GO AND GET OUR CANDY!" She insists, "I DON'T LIKE THIS... I'M LEAVING AFTER ALL!!" A man tries to push her inside, saying, "WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?!! IT'S COLD OUTSIDE, AND DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT FLOOR THIS IS?! NOW, HURRY ALONG INSIDE." Mocha apologizes through tears, "NO... NO I'M SORRY I DIDN'T LISTEN TO YOU, LADY, NICE GUY...!!" Then she smashes through the door and cries, "HELP MEEE!!" while the guards shout, "STOP THAT!! GET AWAY FROM THE DOOR!!" Outside, the injured rescuers lie in the snow beneath the roaring wind.

Sanji, still in Nami's battered body, checks himself after the fight. "HAA... I'M MADE AN AWFUL MESS OF SANJI-KUN'S BODY... BUT IT LOOKS LIKE I'M ALL RIGHT... JUST HOW TOUGH IS HE...?" he says from Nami's point of view. Usopp is down nearby, and Sanji calls, "USOPP...!!" Nami, in Sanji's body, answers from the wreckage: "AHHHH... SANJI... YOU CAME TO SAVE ME..." Sanji snaps, "IT'S NAMI, ALL RIGHT?!" and then, when Nami says he does not have to sound so disappointed, he answers flatly, "Oh, yeah..." Inside the facility, Caesar returns to Vergo and Monet, saying, "SORRY TO KEEP YOU WAITING, VERGO. SHURORORO..." Monet asks when the experiment will begin, while Vergo worries about missing cookies.

Caesar orders Monet, "VERY SOON... MONE'! PREPARE THE TRANSMISSION!" Vergo says he wishes Caesar could at least keep better control of his own subordinates, and Caesar admits he feared the worst when Smoker arrived. Vergo calls Smoker "A WILD MUTT" he could not keep on a leash, but at least Smoker is now behind him. Caesar turns to Law, bound and beaten, and laughs, "AND YOU, LAW... HOW THE MIGHTY HAVE FALLEN! I DARESAY YOU FOUND YOURSELF QUITE POWERLESS AGAINST VERGO, ISN'T THAT RIGHT?" Law stays silent while Caesar notes that the "contract" with him has come in handy.

Caesar recalls Law's original bargain. Law had wanted to stay on the island, and Caesar agreed to provide his subordinates with the legs they lacked. But Caesar says it was not a bad deal only up to a point. He reminds Law, "YOU'RE MORE POWERFUL THAN I AM!!! THERE'S ONLY ONE BOSS OF THIS ISLAND, AND THAT IS ME!!!" Law answers that if he is to stay, he needs to weaken Caesar's position somehow. He offers a proposition: "I WANT YOU TO TAKE CARE OF THE HEART OF MY VALUABLE SECRETARY, MONE'. I TRUST YOU HAVE NO OBJECTIONS, MONE'?" Monet answers, "AS YOU WISH." In return, Law must give up something equally vital.

Caesar states the exchange with a grin: "YOU MUST HAND OVER YOUR OWN HEART TO ME!! THAT IS MY DEAL!!!!" If each of them holds the other's life, neither can easily betray the other. Caesar says, "THAT WAY, I'LL FEEL NICE AND SECURE...!!" But the security was never mutual. He laughs, "AS I THOUGHT, IT'S NEVER WISE TO TRUST PEOPLE!" then reveals, "YOUR HEART IS CURRENTLY IN THE POSSESSION OF VERGO HERE!" Vergo squeezes Law's heart in his hand, and Law is lifted in agony. Caesar says Law has nobody but himself to blame, because by now he must know the truth about trust.

Vergo squeezes Law's heart, making him scream, and Caesar mocks Law for not noticing Monet's role. He says, "THOUGH I SUPPOSE EVEN YOU COULDN'T HAVE BEEN EXPECTED TO NOTICE... MONE' WAS KIND ENOUGH TO FOLLOW YOU IN A DIFFERENT FORM." The prisoners react as Caesar reveals that Monet heard everything Law said. Luffy and Robin sit bound nearby, and Caesar adds, "I'M QUITE DISAPPOINTED IN YOU, LAW... JUST WHEN I THOUGHT I HAD MADE A GOOD FRIEND...!!" Law realizes he underestimated Monet: "THAT'S QUITE THE SHARP SECRETARY YOU'VE GOT YOURSELF THERE... I SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE WARY OF HER." He admits that he let his guard down because her master was such a half-wit.

Caesar does not tolerate Law's insult. He lunges and yells, "WATCH YOUR MOUTH, YOU LITTLE BRAT!!!" while Vergo's grip on Law's heart leaves Law gasping. Luffy is stunned that Law is still alive even though someone has his heart: "YOU'RE AMAZING!!" Robin asks the sharper question: "I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT YOU'VE DONE HELD AT THE MERCY OF YOUR OWN ABILITY, EH, LAW?" Caesar laughs and tells Law, "IT'S RIGHT OVER HEEEREEEE!" Then Monet reports, "MASTER, I HAVE PREPARED THE TRANSMISSION." Caesar orders, "I SEE, I SEE... VERY WELL! ACTIVATE IT!!" and the broadcast begins with the video-snail calling "NOSO" as its eyes open.

The broadcast shows the frozen half of the island, near the center. Caesar's viewers see a huge striped object in the snow, and the people outside panic: "AHHH!! SOME KIND OF IMAGE JUST POPPED UP!!" and "WHERE DID THAT VISUAL DEN-DEN MUSHI COME FROM?!" Others wonder, "WHAT'S IT SHOWING?! WHERE IS THAT?!" and ask, "IS THAT CANDY?! A GIANT PIECE OF CANDY?!" The narration explains that the images are being sent from around the frozen side of the island to "Underworld brokers" all around the New World. The illegal spectators now have a live view of Punk Hazard's killing field.

Caesar explains the pieces of Smiley shown on the screens. "RIGHT NOW, THESE 'SMILEYS'... FRAGMENTS OF THE FULL-SIZED 'SMILEY', HURLED ACROSS FROM THE BURNING SIDE... ARE GATHERING TOWARDS THE CENTRE OF THIS REGION." The fragments will reform on the frozen side and become Smiley once more, and then the experiment will begin. Caesar identifies Smiley as "NONE OTHER THAN THE VERY SAME H2S GAS" released from the poison bomb four years earlier, the gas that destroyed the island. The old weapon's flaw, he says, was that even victims of the gas could flee to safety while weakened.

Caesar announces how he corrected the flaw in the old poison weapon. He has given Smiley, his weapon from four years ago, a giant piece of "FOOD" that his calculations say will add a new effect to the poison gas and turn it into "A PERFECT WEAPON OF MASS SLAUGHTER!!!" He tells the prisoners and the hidden brokers, "YOU ARE ABOUT TO WITNESS... THE BIRTH OF A NEW WEAPON." Then he names it: "I CALL IT... SHINOKUNI!!!" The note explains that the name literally means "land of death." At the center of the frozen side, the people fleeing the gas see it coming and cry, "HERE IT COMES!! ARE WE REALLY GOING TO BE ABLE TO ESCAPE FROM THAT THING?!!"

On the frozen side, Smiley finally gathers into a single massive creature. It roars "RRAOGHHHH!!!" while the group running ahead realizes, "IT'S FINALLY COME TOGETHER ON THIS SIDE!!!" Brook warns, "NO, IT'S STILL GETTING BIGGER AND BIGGER!!" The pursuers and fugitives stare at the huge body while trying to keep moving. Kin'emon asks, "WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT MONSTROUS BEAST?!!" but there is no time for discussion. Someone shouts, "NO TIME TO THINK ABOUT THAT...!! JUST KEEP RUNNING!!!" The giant candy appears ahead, and the people below point up: "THERE SEEMS TO BE A LARGE BALL AHEAD OF US!!" and "CANDY...?!!"

Caesar's men report, "MASTER, WE'VE SIGHTED A MASSIVE GELATINOUS CREATURE!!!" and identify it as the monster "PRESUMED TO BE SMILEY!!" At the same time, Vegapunk's dragon, small version, sits near the scene and munches as people shout, "WHAT THE HECK IS THAT MONSTER?!" Caesar is pleased and orders, "VERY GOOD. ONCE YOU HAVE COMPLETED THAT TASK... YOU MUST EVACUATE AT ONCE FOR YOUR OWN SAFETY. HURRY INTO THE DRAGON SLEDGE AND..." Before he can finish, trouble begins. His men report, "AS INSTRUCTED, WE WILL PROJECT YOUR IMAGE INTO THE MIST!!" while someone screams. Caesar asks, "IS SOMETHING THE MATTER?"

The evacuation fails almost immediately. Caesar's men shout, "BIG TROUBLE!!! THE SLEDGE... IT SEEMS TO BE MELTING APART!! THIS SLEDGE ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE!!" They wonder, "HOW IN THE WORLD...?! COULD IT HAVE COME INTO CONTACT WITH SOME STRANGE CHEMICAL...?!!" Caesar tries to dismiss the report as "HARDLY VERY CONVINCING," but outside the panic is real. The dragon runs away, and Caesar's projected image tells everyone, "YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO RUN... RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!! PROTECTIVE CLOTHING WON'T DO YOU ANY GOOD!! TAKE IT ALL OFF!!! JUST RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN TOWARDS THE FACILITY!!!" The fugitives see his image appear in midair, but they decide to ignore it and focus on running.

Smiley arrives before the giant candy. Caesar's image shouts, "SMILEY!!!" and calls to it, "I HAVE MISSED YOU THESE THREE LONG YEARS!!!" Smiley roars and slurps forward, but Caesar warns, "BUT DON'T RUSH NOW... 'WAIT' FOR NOW, YES? SHURORORO...!!" He says he has prepared "some special food" just for Smiley and tells it, "WE HAVE SO MUCH TO CATCH UP ON... AH, SMILEY...!" The runners below stare in horror as Caesar orders, "ALL RIGHT, THEN!! EAT IT ALL UP, SMILEY! THAT'S RIGHT! THERE'S A GOOD BOY!" Monet quietly notes, "HE'S REALLY NOT LISTENING..." while Smiley, driven by appetite, moves toward the candy that will trigger Shinokuni.
