The title page declares "CHAPTER 306 「DONUT RACE」". Usopp leans forward and shouts furiously, "I SAID NOT TO AGREE TO HIS GAME!!!" while pointing ahead. A large sound effect erupts as someone off-panel calls, "WHAT IS IT, USOPP!I" Narration reads, "THE TERRIFYING GAMBLE THAT YOU LOOSE YOUR FRIEND IN." In the lower panels the Foxy Pirates react with laughter: one crewmate cackles "HEH!! HEHEH! HEHEHEHE...!!!" while another confirms "YES, BOSS. I HEARD HIM. THERE IS NO WAY OUT OF IT NOW." Foxy himself declares with a wide grin, "STRAW HAT LUFFY ACCEPTED THE CHALLENGE!!" as his subordinates cheer "IT'S TOO LATE, FOOL. I HEARD IT LOUD AND CLEAR. HOHO HOHO! FEH FEH!!!" and "RIGHTI PORCH!I" A small voice protests "NO WAY OUT!"

Luffy roars at Usopp, "IDIOT, DON'T FALL FOR HIS TRAP!!!" while Usopp fires back "OF COURSE NOT!!!" Close-ups show Luffy's intense glare as he warns, "WANT TO GO BACK ON YOUR WORDS... UNLESS... YOU ARE NOT A MAN AND..." In the next tier Luffy yells "I WILL RETURN THE PAIN THEY GAVE SHERRY RIGHT NOW!!!!" and "MOVE OUT OF THE WAY, BOTH OF YOU!!" while a background figure cries "NO, OLD MAN!!!" A small panel shows Luffy looking concerned as someone says "DON'T WORRY, SHE'LL HEAL!" and "SHERRY ~~~... BUT HE DID THAT TO THE HORSE!!!" Luffy sweats and mutters "HUHE HUER..." The bottom panels capture Luffy's shock: "OLD GUY!!! THEY ARE PIRATES!!!" "DON'T DO IT," followed by a close-up of a gun firing with the cry "HU-EH... HUER...!!!" and an enraged Foxy bellowing "HOW DARE YOU DO THAT TO MY ROYAL SHERRY...!!!" while a voice urges "HANG ON... THE BULLET IS ALMOST OUT..."

Nami stares in shock, sweat drop forming, as she blurts out, "DAVY BACK FIGHTI" The massive Foxy Pirates ship looms behind her with its grinning fox-jolly-roger sail. A voice explains, "...THE CAPTAINS FROM BOTH SHIPS AGREE TO IT." Another adds, "YES. THE GAME BEGINS WHEN..." Below deck, Foxy crew members stand ready as the announcer continues, "TO YOUR CAPTAIN AS WE SPEAK." A grinning fishman-like crewmate declares, "OUR CAPTAIN IS PROPOSING THE GAME..."

Zoro and Sanji react with confusion. Zoro asks, "UH... HAVE YOU NEVER HEARD OF ITI THIS ISN'T JUST A FIGHT." Sanji snaps, "WE NEVER TURN DOWN A FIGHT ANYWAYS!!" and questions, ""PROPOS-ING...I" WHY BOTHERI" Nami explains to the group on the shore, ""DAVY BACK FIGHT" IS A GAMBLING GAME PLAYED BETWEEN PIRATES." Robin adds context about pirate crews using it to acquire good members. A Foxy crew member confirms, "THAT IS CORRECT. ACCORDING TO LEGEND, THE GAME WAS INVENTED... A LONG TIME AGO IN THE 'PIRATE'S PARADISE ISLAND.'" The rules are laid out: "THE FORMAT WE USE IS THE 3-COINS RULE. THAT MEANS 3 ROUNDS PER GAME!!" Nami realizes, "DAVY BACK FIGHT IS THE 'CONTEST FOR HUMAN RESOURCES'!!!" and asks about groups fighting over pirates.

Foxy's crew details the stakes on their ship deck. One declares, "THE CHOSEN CREW MUST THEN SWEAR ROYALTY TO THE WINNING CAPTAIN!!!" Others explain, "MAY PICK ONE CREW FROM THE LOSER'S TEAM." and "THE VICTOR OF EACH GAME..." The winner may also take the loser's pirate flag. A dramatic panel shows the black flag with crossed bones waving as the warning is given: "IF YOU LOOSE THE GAME, YOU LOOSE YOUR FRIEND!!!" Sanji reacts with alarm. Zoro, cigarette in mouth, warns the crew, "IN THIS GAME YOU ANTE UP YOUR FRIENDS AND PRIDE. IF YOU WIN, YOU GROW STRONGER. IF YOU LOOSE YOU CAN FALL AND NEVER GET BACK UP AGAIN..." He notes, "IT'S A VERY DANGEROUS GAME...!!!" and recalls the other ship they saw had no sail and "NOR WAS THERE A CAPTAIN..."

The Foxy Pirates celebrate wildly on their deck, shouting "WUUOOH~!!! LONG LIVE FOXY'S PIRATES!!!" Crew members point out the new recruits, noting, "LOOK, THESE ARE THE NEW CREWS WE GOT. THEY WERE THE LOOSER OF THE PREVIOUS GAMES!!" One recognizes them as the "BIG FANG FROG" Pirates. The defeated crew recounts their losses: they played "3-COINS" and lost five times, losing their ship-mechanic, navigator, doctor, and captain. They wail in despair. Nami reacts furiously, "WE WILL NEVER PLAY SUCH A LAME GAME!!!" while the Foxy announcer laughs, "YEAH!!! WE LITERALLY STRIPPED THEM OF EVERYTHING THEY HAD!" and "... THAT'S SO FOOLISH AND MEANINGLESS."

A large fish-like announcer declares the rules: "THE GAME WILL PROCEED AS LONG AS THE CAPTAINS FROM BOTH SIDES AGREE TO IT!!" The creature adds, "IDIOT. IT DOESN'T MATTER IF A CREW LIKE YOU REJECTS." On the shore, the announcer continues, "YOU WILL ALL BECOME THE ANTE OF THE GAMBLE." "AS SOON AS YOUR CAPTAIN, MONKEY D LUFFY, NODS HIS HEAD." The Foxy Pirates' ship looms nearby with its Jolly Roger. "YOU CAN CRY. YOU CAN SCREAM, BUT..." In the foreground, Nami stands with a serious expression while Sanji, Zoro, and another crewmate react. Nami says, "SOI LET THEM LAUGH, WHO CARES!I" A voice replies, "IF YOU RUN AWAY OR PLAY TRICKS YOU WILL BECOME THE LAUGHINGSTOCK OF EVERYONE IN THE WORLD." Another adds, "NO MATTER HOW FOOLISH IT SOUNDS..." Nami finishes, "IT CAN'T BE HELPED NAMI-CHAN... THIS IS THE 'LAW' OF THE SEA..."

Foxy glares and states, "YOU'RE TOO LATE." Nami responds coolly while the crew debates. Foxy shouts, "FINE!!! THEN WE HAVE TO STOP LUFFY NOW!!!" A crewmate warns, "WHEN THE CAPTAINS FIRE THEIR GUNS ONE AFTER ANOTHER, THE GAME STARTS." Sanji growls, "GIVE IT A REST... MEN ARE ALWAYS LIKE THAT..." Zoro snaps, "WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!!" Foxy retorts, "ME, TOO. I WOULD RATHER DIE." Suddenly, SFX: DON DOON!! (BANG BANG) as the captains fire. The massive Foxy ship lurches forward with a huge impact SFX "ドン ドドドドーン!!" as the announcer yells, "AH!!I IT SHOULD COME ANY MOMENTS NOW..."

Close-ups show Nami thinking "INTERESTING...", Sanji smirking "PERFECT...", Usopp gasping "HE ACCEPTED IT...", and Robin shocked "THAT MEANS....!!!I" The crowd erupts as the challenge is accepted. Pirates cheer wildly with signs reading "ACCEPTED ~~~~!!!" and "CHALLENGE..." while waving swords and flags. SFX "ガアアアアアア" fills the air. In the next scene, Luffy's crew is pelted with insults and debris. Multiple voices yell "IDIOT!!!" and "IDIOT!!!" while firing guns. SFX "PEH!!" and "ズバーン!!" ring out as Luffy stands firm with his back to the viewer, hat on, facing the jeering crowd. A large rifle barrel smokes in the foreground.

Luffy yells, "YEAH! I'M GOING TO KICK YOU ASS!!!" while striking a pose. The announcer declares, "ALL RIGHT. THE GAME HAS OFFICIALLY STARTED!!!" A Foxy pirate panics, "ALL WE HAVE TO DO IS WIN...!!" Another screams, "WHY DID YOU ACCEPT!!! DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND THE HORROR OF THIS GAME!!!" Hamburg protests, "DON'T LAUGH, HAMBOG!!!" while clutching his face. Luffy roars back, "YOU LITTLE BRAT!! HOW COULD YOU SAY SUCH A THING! BOSS IS VERY SENSITIVE!!!!" Luffy continues, "LUFFY, I KNOW YOU ARE PISSED FOR WHAT THEY DID TO THE HORSE, BUT..." In close-up Luffy bellows, "OF COURSE I CAN, YOU 2-PIECE HEAD!!!" and "2-PIECE... HEAD..." The crew urges him on: "I'LL SHOW YOU...!!!!" "LEAVE IT TO ME!!" "YOU SURE RECOVER FAST!!!!" "PLEASE AVENGE OUR PAIN!!" with SFX "ガアア" and "ひゅるるるる" as the horse rears up.

Explosions and smoke fill the air above the festival stage as loud bangs echo. Foxy stands center stage holding a massive megaphone, shouting announcements while the crowd cheers. A sign reads "THE INITIATION CEREMONY WILL BEGIN SOON. PLEASE BE QUIET." Vendors yell "PORK CHOPS AND HAMBURGERS, TOO!!!" and "HOT DOGS! GET YOUR HOT DOGS HERE!!" Someone demands "GIMME SOME HOT SAUCE!!!" A voice orders "SHUT UP!!!!!" as another calls for contestants: "WILL THE CONTESTANTS PLEASE COME TO THE STAGE!!" Luffy stares in shock at the stage, exclaiming "OLD MAAAN....!!!" while a small figure beside him says "HI HIN!!" and "GIVE ME 2 PLEASE." Usopp sweats nervously nearby. Spectators comment "ARE ALL THESE PEOPLE THE 2-PIECE HEAD'S CREW!I" and "WOW! IT'S GETTING REALLY INTERESTING..." as excitement builds: "HURRY! IT'S STARTING!!" and "THERE ARE SO MANY..."

Foxy dramatically raises his hand and declares "I WILL NOW STATE THE RULES OF THE GAME!!!" Porche cheers "YEEY! PORCHE-CHAN!!!" with a heart, while Foxy yells "ALL RIGHT, SCUMS!! BE QUIET!!!" A large banner proclaims "DAVY BACK FIGHT." The rules are announced: "RULE #1: THE CREWS AND FLAGS LOST IN A DAVY BACK FIGHT... MAY ONLY BE REACQUIRED THROUGH ANOTHER DAVY BACK FIGHT." "RULE #2: THE PERSON CHOSEN IN THE ENDGAME... MUST SWEAR LOYALTY TO THE WINNING TEAM IMMEDIATELY!!!" A masked woman with a wide grin asks "DO YOU SWEAR TO HONOR THESE RULESI" while warning "ANYONE WHO DISGRACES ANY OF THE RULES WILL BE SACRIFICED TO DAVY JONES!!!" Nami mutters "STOP MUMBLING, NAMI." as onlookers discuss cotton candy and the pirate flag rule: "RULE #3: THE PIRATE FLAG THAT IS TAKEN AWAY MAY NEVER BE USED AGAIN!!!"

Luffy, mouth full of noodles, shouts "I SWEAR!" with intense eyes. A long-nosed man beside him grins widely and replies "I DO." Foxy holds up coins, declaring "SEE THESE COINS!I" as dramatic effects burst around him. A massive explosion of light and motion lines erupts across the sky with "わああああああ" and "WUUOOOH!!!" A ship sails forward as narration states "THIS OFFICIAL GAME UNDER THE 3-COIN RULE WILL COMMENCE NOW." An unseen speaker reports "I AM REPORTING TO THE GREAT DAVY JONES THAT..." while a bubble reads "PU-TONG!!"

Robin explains "IT'S A LEGEND... HE ALSO TAKES ALL THE... SHIPS AND TREASURE THAT SINK TO THE SEA FLOOR" while Chopper asks "HE IS A CURSED PIRATE FROM ANCIENT TIME THAT LIVES UNDER THE SEAI" and "WHO'S DAVY JONESI" The crew discusses the game: "SO THEY NAMED THE GAME 'DAVY BACK FIGHT.'" "JUST LIKE HOW THE WINNER TAKES WHAT HE LIKES FROM THE LOOSER." "DAVY TAKES WHATEVER HE LIKES FROM THE SEA..." Sanji reacts "SO SWEET!!" as the long-nosed man lists crew roles: "A COOK, A DOCTOR, AND A ARCHEOLOGISTS...I A MONKEY, A SWORDSMAN, A NAVIGATOR, A SNIPER," while grinning and saying "AH... I'LL TAKE THAT ONE AFTER ALL~~~~!!!" and "YES, THAT ONE WILL DO NICELY!!" He asks "ARE YOU INTERESTED IN SOMEONE IN PARTICULAR, BOSS" as Luffy laughs "HM~~~ FUFUFUF...."

On the deck overlooking the bustling pirate crews, Sanji stands with hands on hips and declares, "I KNEW THAT. GET OUT OF HERE." A voice explains the rules: "EACH PERSON MAY PLAY NO MORE THAN ONE ROUND. YOU MAY NOT CHANGE THE GROUPING ONCE THE GAME STARTS." Another adds, "EXACTLY 7 PEOPLE FROM EACH TEAM WILL PARTICIPATE IN GAME." Someone asks, "HEY! YOU KNOW THE REST OF THE RULES RIGHTI" Nearby, a pirate remarks, "THAT'S SO NICE, SO MANY CREWS..." In the next panels the Straw Hats argue heatedly. Sanji snaps, "WHY WOULD WE WANT SOMEONE FROM THAT KIND OF PIRATE GROUP!I" Usopp counters, "WHEN WE WIN, WE CAN GET A SHIP REPAIRMAN, TOO!!" Luffy yells, "IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!" and "DAMN YOU!!!" while a masked fighter growls back. Zoro shouts, "GUYS!! ALL WE NEED TO DO IS WIN!!" Nami smiles and says, "IT'S DECIDED THEN. I'LL TAKE MY TURN IN OUR LISTING." Usopp protests, "NO, LET ME! MY LEGS ARE ITCHY ALREADY!" Luffy roars, "WHAT!!!I NO! I WANT TO FIGHT!!!" and "I'LL TAKE COMBAT." Robin notes quietly, "NO, THEY WILL TAKE ME BECAUSE I AM SO CUTE..."

The team lists are posted. Round 1 is the DONUT RACE with contestants Usopp, Nami, and Nico Robin. Nami thinks, "I DON'T WANT TO DO THIS, NEITHER, BUT YOU NEED TO TOUGHEN UP!!" Usopp sweats and recalls, "ACTUALLY, I JUST REMEMBERED THAT I HAVE THE *DIES-IF-ENTERS-A-BOAT-RACE SYNDROME...*" Someone notes, "IF IT'S SEVEN PEOPLE, EVERYONE NEEDS TO PARTICIPATE." Round 2 is the GROGGY RING with contestants Zoro, Sanji, and Chopper. Sanji yells, "THAT'S MY LINE!!" while Zoro warns, "DON'T GET IN THE WAY." Chopper cheers, "I'LL DO MY BEST!!" The final panel shows Luffy as the sole listed contestant for Round 3 COMBAT, arms raised and roaring with joy, "YEAH~~~~~~~!!!!" and "うおおおおおお!!!"

The announcer explains the DONUT RACE rules from a flying bird platform: "YOU ARE GIVEN 2 OARS AND 3 BARRELS TO MAKE YOUR CANOE. YOU ARE DISQUALIFIED IF YOU USE EXTRA MATERIALS!! IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE SHIP MECHANICS' SKILLS!" He continues, "FIRST UP, IT'S THE OBSTACLE COURSE AROUND THE ISLE, DONUTS RACE!!" and "I WILL BROADCAST THE RACE FROM THE AIR WITH MY SUPER SPARROW OF THE SOUTH SEA, GIGIN!!!" The bird chirps "CHI CHI" and "ピィッ". The Foxy Pirates' announcer Slim Tim introduces himself. In the stands, a Foxy Pirate leers, "HEY~~~ THAT ORANGE GIRL IS CUTE!! I WANT TO PLAY WITH THAT DARK HAIR CHICK!!" while another comments on the Straw Hats. Nami stands on the Barrel Tiger canoe with Usopp and Robin, Usopp muttering, "I TOLD YOU I'M NOT A SHIP-MECHANIC!!! THIS WON'T SINK... WILL ITI" The narrator box states the Straw Hat team: Nami the navigator, Usopp the sniper, and Nico Robin the archeologist.

The Foxy Pirates' team is introduced with their animal-assisted canoe: "IN ASSISTANCE ARE KAPOUTI THE SWORDFISH AND MOUNDA THE STAR-SHARK!!" Porche cheers, "OO~~~ LEAVE IT TO ME" and "AND NOW, REPRESENTING TEAM FOXY... SHE IS OUR SWEETHEART, PORCH!!!" The crowd roars as the cute-wagon ship speeds forward. Luffy yells from the stands, "KICK THEIR ASS~~~~~!!!!" and "BURRY THEM, PORCH HONEY~~~~~!!!!" while a spectator shouts, "HOLD ON A SECOND... THEY HAVE A FISH ON THEIR TEAM!!" Nami glares and declares, "BRING IT ON!!!" Porche smirks, "BOTH TEAM, GET READY~~~~~!!!!" and "I WILL MAKE YOU SINK." The page ends with the ONE PIECE logo and chapter number.
