Saul

The Buster Call falls on Ohara. Explosions rip through the island while villagers scream, "Oowah!!!" and "What's that bombardment!!?" The page labels the destruction as "the research of Ohara's scholars" going beyond imagination, and the warships close in while people cry, "Hurry to the evacuation ship!" The knowledge Ohara protected has become the reason the island is being erased.

The cannons roar with the official command: "Obliterate the demons of Ohara" and "In the name of justice!!!" Shells strike even near the people fleeing the island. A villager screams, "What's going on!? We're not off the island, yet! Are they trying to kill us, too!?" Another cries, "Shit! What's that!!?" and "Whoa!!" The scholars understand the scale of the attack: "It's definitely the war force of the headquarters!!" Clover says bitterly, "How foolish...!!" because the warships have even directed their attack at the Tree of Omniscience.

Spandine hears that Robin claimed to be an archaeologist. A subordinate says, "Chief, that kid... she said she's an archaeologist..." Spandine answers, "Yeah...!! She did say that. I don't know if it's true or not. But, when you're in doubt, it's better to get rid of her!! Remember that face. Don't let her off of this island." He tells the agents to go, while elsewhere people shout, "Everyone, retreat!! Get back to your ships!!!" and "What's going on!? Why did they open fire already!?" Olvia lies injured but thinks only of Robin: "My life is what's most important!" Clover shouts, "Protect the Tree of Omniscience!!!" and "Do something about the fire on the library!!!"

Amid smoke and falling ash, Robin and Olvia finally reach each other. Their hands meet, and Olvia says, "I've always wanted to do this." Robin throws herself into her mother's arms, crying, "Mom...!!!" Olvia holds her close and repeats the word that now means everything: "Always..." The island is burning around them, but for this brief moment the years of separation collapse into one embrace.

Clover watches mother and daughter together and realizes the depth of what has happened. He asks, "Is it true that you can read Poneglyphs!?" and thinks, "It's all my fault... Robin...!! If only I had known this sooner...!!" Robin apologizes through tears: "I'm sorry... I really wanted..." Olvia kneels before her and says, "I'm very surprised that you're able to read them. You studied hard, didn't you? It's not an easy thing to do... I'm so proud of you, Robin!!" For Robin, the forbidden knowledge that made her dangerous is also the first thing her mother praises.

Clover warns Olvia, "You shouldn't waste your time here." He tells her, "Olvia... run away with Robin!!! If you can sneak Robin onto the evacuation ship somehow, she can leave the island!!!" Only the officials who were present know Robin can read the Poneglyphs. Robin sobs "Eeeen!!!" as Saul suddenly appears through the smoke, calling, "Robin!!!" and "Ye'r here!! I was lookin' for ya!!" Robin cries, "Saul!!" and he sees Olvia too: "So, ya found Olvia, too, huh!?"

Olvia is shocked: "Saul...!! Why are you on this island!?" Saul answers that the ship was lost at sea and Robin rescued him on the beach: "Some kinda fate...!!" But he tells them to forget that because the situation is serious and they must get off the island. Then he entrusts Robin to Olvia: "Take care of Robin for me!!! Take my daughter...!! Take her away from this island!!!" Robin protests, "Mom!! I don't want us to be separated!! We've finally met...! I'm staying here, too!!" Olvia, however, says, "I... I still have things to do here."

Olvia tells Robin what every scholar of Ohara knows: "History is an asset to humanity. I'm sure it will shed some light on the future that you'll be living." Because Robin is a scholar of Ohara, Olvia says she should know this well. But someone must pass on the history inherited from the past, or it will disappear. The scholars did not want to reveal history for personal fame; they wanted to hear the voices from the past and protect them. Olvia admits, "Our research will end here," and adds, "But even if Ohara perishes," the duty to carry the truth forward must not perish with it.

Olvia smiles through her wounds and tells Robin, "We shouldn't give up on the future that you'll be living in!!!" Robin still does not understand. Saul says, "You'll understand it one day," while Robin cries, "I dun ged it!!" Olvia pleads, "Now, please go!! Saul!!" but Robin refuses: "No, I'll stay here!! Mom!!!" She has found her mother at last, and the future her mother is trying to save feels like another separation.

Robin screams, "Mooom!!!" and Olvia answers with the words she has earned too late: "I'm happy that you called me that. Thank you." Then she gives her daughter the only farewell she can: "From now on, live your life to the fullest for me, Robin!!!" Robin reaches out, crying, while Olvia stands in the burning island's smoke. Their reunion becomes a goodbye almost as soon as it begins.

On the warships, Marines notice the chaos near shore. A Marine calls, "Vice Admiral!! Vice Admiral Kuzan!" and reports uncertainty: "On the island... yup, no doubt..." Saul appears among the destruction, and the Marines identify him: "Vice Admiral Saul, the one who deserted, is there!!!" Saul shouts back, "Stop!!!" He pleads, "Stop!! Ya don't hafta kill 'em!!! Capturin' 'em woulda been fine!!!" The Marines argue, "But they resisted..." and "Dey're not dose violent pirates!!! Are ya guys so weak dat ya can't even hold 'em down!!?" Saul's outrage is simple: the Buster Call is not justice, it is slaughter.

Saul stands amid the ruin and says, "But I still dun get why dey hafta die." Marines report that they have captured many investigation ships in the past, and Olvia, furious, asks, "How dare you! Hurting my nakama...!!!" Saul asks the question at the heart of Ohara: "Do ya really want da weapons?" A Marine claims, "Without ever doubting the law, claiming that you just want to prevent the production of the weapons...!!" Saul answers that the Government has been "mindlessly punishing" them and is just afraid of a past it does not even know. The Marines call it a top-secret mission and mention "Buster Call!!?" with dread, while Saul realizes this order will lead to warships.

Saul argues that the captured people are only scholars: "Dey're only scholars. We dun hafta go dat far!!" He says they simply wanted to understand history, and if their research is that dangerous, why did the Government help them too by capturing people from across the world? The answer from the officers is obedience: "Gimme proof dat dey're completely 'evil'!!!" Saul cries that it is the Marines taking away lives at every scene, but is told, "Are you doubting the Government...? Shut up and just follow orders!!" He turns to Olvia and says, "Tell me your story... for a bit." Then the alarm comes: "Vice Admiral Saul took the criminal and fled!!! Emergency!!! Capture them!! Capture Saul and Olvia at any cost!!! You have permission to shoot them!!!"

The flashback reveals Saul's final break with the Marines. Pursuit ships close in, and Saul says, "I'll take care of 'em." Olvia warns, "Saul... you'll never be able to return to the military." Saul accepts it: "S'okay... I can't stay in da Marines wit dis doubt inside my chest. Even if it's keepin' wit da law, dis mission is too tyrannical. I jus' follow'd muh own sense of justice..." He tells Olvia to go back to her hometown and tell her people about it. She says, "I won't say thank you," and Saul laughs, "Dereshishishi!!! I wish you good luck!!"

In the present, cannon fire targets Saul. Olvia screams, "Saul!! Go back, please!!!" but Saul refuses: "No, we can't do dat!!!" The Marines shout, "Fire!!!" and Saul realizes, "Dey're aimin' at me!!" Robin cries, "Saul!!!" as shells explode around him. Saul answers with all his strength: "Be proud, Robin!!! Yer mom is honorable!!! Ohara is honorable!!! Pass on da history of dis island someday, Robin!! Ohara fought da world!!!" Even while the cannons tear into him, he turns Ohara's destruction into a message for Robin to carry.

A shell hurtles toward Robin, and Saul shields her with his body. The blast hits him with a massive impact. Robin cries, "Ah?" and then "Saul!!!" Saul apologizes despite saving her: "...!! Sorry, Robin... Did dat scare ya?" Marines nearby shout, "W... whoa!! It hit!!" and "Don't apologize!! He's an accomplice of evil now!!!" Saul asks, "How wud dey atone if Robin got hurt!?" He breathes hard and tells Robin, "Haa... haa... wait here for a while." Burned and bleeding, he is still protecting the child who rescued him.

Saul grabs a Marine warship and lifts it from the sea while Marines scream, "Ooowah!! Please stop it, Vice Admiral!! What're you doing!?" and "Don't do anything more than that...!! Wait, are you insane!!?" Saul answers, "... I dunno wat da justice is now. But I'll just protect muh friend...!!!" Robin cries, "Saul!!! Stop it!!!" but Saul tells the ship, "Be ready, if ya make me yer enemy... I won't let ya get away...!!!" With a roar of "Gyaaah!" he hurls the vessel, turning the Marines' own weapon back against them to buy Robin a chance to live.
