Sea Charts and Fishmen

A striped ship hurtles through stormy skies above a tropical island, trailing smoke and debris. Massive onomatopoeia “ゴゴオオオオオオ” shakes the sky as the vessel plummets. Below, the ship slams into the sea with a huge splash. On deck, crew members cling desperately to the railing while one figure yells “AGHHHH!” In a small side panel on the island, two men look toward the port; one remarks, “HUHI I THINK I JUST HEARD SOMETHING REALLY LOUD OVER BY THE PORT!” Palm trees and a lighthouse frame the scene as the ship continues its chaotic descent.

The striped ship spins wildly through the air amid clouds and palm trees. Onomatopoeia “ドゴォ…” and “ギャギャ…” mark the violent tumbling. The vessel smashes through rocks with “ゴゴボォ…” and “ザ・ボォ…”. A small flying object trails behind. From the falling ship, voices scream in panic: “WE’RE GONNA FAAAAAAA ALLLLL!” Another retorts, “THAT’S BECAUSE WE WERE SENT FLYING, YOU IDIOT!” A third voice cheers, “YAHOO! IT’S LIKE WE’RE REALLY FLYING!” The ship hurtles toward the island below.

The ship crashes violently into the treetops with a massive “ズバァァァッ” impact, flinging occupants forward. Crew members shout “AGHHHH!” and “WE’RE GONNA CRASH INTO THE TREES!” The vessel slams to a halt among the palms. On the ground, a swordsman with three blades at his waist—Roronoa Zoro—sprints through the foliage, reacting to the noise with “!!I” Nearby voices question, “THE HELL WAS THAT NOISE JUST NOWI” and “DID SOMEONE DROP A BOMB ON THIS ISLAND OR SOMETHINGI” From the wreckage, someone yells, “BUT WE’RE NOT STOPPING!” Another exclaims, “WHOA, WE’VE LANDED!” A figure in the distance states, “WELL IN ANY CASE,” while a crew member worries, “I HAVE TO HURRY UP OR USOPP WILL BE K…” Heavy impact sounds echo through the jungle.

A massive impact sends a fishman pirate flying backward through the air, his body contorted as he screams "AGHHHHH!". Below, Luffy stares in shock while Zoro lies injured on the ground. Luffy yells "OH! ZORO!" as a voice cries "BRO!" and Luffy shouts "LUFFY...!!!". The scene cuts to a wide view of the devastated shoreline where a huge explosion erupts with the massive sound effect "ドッゴォォォ", sending debris and shockwaves across the sand and palm trees.

On the wrecked ship deck, Johnny and Yosaku sit among the rubble. Johnny asks "HEY, YOU ALRIGHTI" while the group wonders aloud: "WHERE'S USOPP AND JOHNNYI", "HAVEN'T YOU FOUND HER YETI", and "WHAT DO YOU MEANI WE'VE OBVIOUSLY COME TO GET NAMI BACK." An enraged fishman pirate roars "THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!I". Zoro snaps "HE WAS ALREADY KILLED! THAT IDIOT GOT HIMSELF CAUGHT BY ARLONG! IF WE DON'T HURRY UP, HE'LL BE K...". Usopp panics "HMI WHAT'S WRONGI USOPPI OH CRAP! NOW'S NOT THE TIME TO BE WASTING TIME!". On the beach, Luffy, Zoro, Johnny, and Yosaku arrive to find the area deserted. Zoro calls out "...JOHNNYI" as Luffy stares ahead and someone mutters "IT'S TOO LATE."

Johnny screams in anguish, tears and sweat flying: "WAS MURDERED BY SISTER NAMI!! BROTHER USOPP...". Luffy, Zoro, and Yosaku react with stunned expressions. Luffy gasps "!!I". The group surveys the gouged-out shoreline. Someone asks "JUST WHAT ON EARTH HAPPENED HERE...I" while another notes "BUT THERE'RE NO TRACES OF ANYTHING HERE. NOT EVEN THE SMELL OF GUNPOWDER." A sign reads "WEST COAST OF COCOYAHI VILLAGE" as distant figures stand on the rocks.

Villagers on the beach spot a strange ship approaching. A girl shouts "HEEEEEYYY! SIS!" while others exclaim "IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANY MARINE SHIP I'VE EVER SEEN.", "ISN'T THAT... A MARINE SHIP!I", and "HEY, LOOK!". A child notes "AH, THE KID FROM GOSA...". Nojiko and the group discuss: "IT MUST NOT BE FROM THE MARINE BASE NEAR THIS REGION.", "THEY'VE SENT A SHIP FOR US!", "YEAH! THE GOVERNMENT SENT IT TO AID GOSA VILLAGE!", "YOU MEAN THATI", and "CAN YOU SEE THE MARINE SHIP!I". Survivors confirm "THAT'S RIGHT! SOME OF THE SURVIVORS FROM MY VILLAGE MANAGED TO CONTACT THE GOVERNMENT!" and "THEY SENT A SHIP!I" as the vessel draws closer.

From a high vantage point overlooking the sea, two marines gaze at the distant fortress. One addresses the other, "COMMODORE PURIN PURIN! I COULDN'T AGREE MORE," while the speech bubble continues, "THE WORLD MUST BE COMING TO AN END IF PIRATES CAN SET UP A COZY BASE AND STRUT THEIR STUFF LIKE THAT. SO IS THAT THE RUMOURED ARLONG PARKI" The grand structure labeled ARLONG PARK stands prominently with its arched gate, flags, and surrounding walls. In closer panels, a scarred marine officer speaks with determination: "DOES THAT ALLOW US, WHO STAND FOR JUSTICE, HOWEVER...!" Nearby marines discuss their objective: "IS ONLY TO RESCUE THE SURVIVORS OF GOSA VILLAGE WHICH WAS RECENTLY DESTROYED BY THE ARLONG PIRATES! OUR MISSION TODAY, LISTEN UP, MEN." The group salutes sharply as one shouts, "NO, SIR, NO!" Another declares, "TO SIMPLY OVERLOOK A PIRATE FORTRESS RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR EYES!I"

Inside a lavish room, a fishman pirate lounges while holding a Den Den Mushi. A voice says, "IF YOU CAN'T BUY'EM OFF FOR 2 MILLION, THEN JUST GET RID OF THEM. SOMEONE GO OVER THERE AND NEGOTIATE WITH THEIR CAPTAIN. MUST BE NEW..." Another asks, "THE 77th BRANCHI" The reply confirms, "YES, THAT'S WHAT IT SAYS." Suddenly an explosion rocks the area with a massive "BOOM!" Arlong stands tall, roaring as impact lines and debris fly around him. "WATCH OUT, ARLONG!" someone yells. Outside the fortress gate, fishmen react in panic: "AGH! THEY'VE FIRED THEIR CANNONS!" A huge cannonball strikes, shattering stone and sending Arlong flying backward amid flying rubble and dramatic impact effects.

Inside a grand hall, a stern man with a topknot questions, "DO YOU STILL WISH TO PROCEED WITH THE NEGOTIATIONSI" Across from him, a fishman seated on a throne bites down on a cannonball, smoke rising as an observer gasps, "W-WHAT MONSTROUS JAW STRENGTH... HE STOPPED A CANNON-BALL... WITH HIS TEETH...!" In close-up the fishman spits forcefully with a "SPIT" effect and growls, "CANCEL IT." Nami appears with a serious expression, warning, "HOLD UP, YOU GUYS." A small heart-marked "CHU" floats nearby. The scene erupts into chaos as fishmen and fighters charge forward with battle cries and motion lines, weapons drawn.

Three imposing Arlong Pirates officers stand together. Kuroobi crosses his arms and states, "THOSE HUMANS ARE TRULY FOOLISH IF THEY THINK THEY CAN CHALLENGE US OUT ON THE SEAS..." Chuu gestures casually, "JUST LEAVE'EM TO US!" and adds with a heart, "CHU THERE'S NO NEED FOR YOU TO EXPEND A WHOLE LOT OF EFFORT JUST TO GET RID OF SOME TRASH." Large nameplates identify them: "ARLONG PIRATES CREW OFFICER KUROOBI (RAYFISH-TYPE FISHMAN)" and "ARLONG PIRATES CREW OFFICER CHUU (JAPANESE WHITING FISH-TYPE FISHMAN)". In a lower panel a long-haired man smirks, "THAT SHIP WON'T EVEN LAST 3 MINUTES." Another laughs "GYOHO." A third grins, "HEH, THIS'LL BE QUITE A SIGHT IF ALL 3 OF OUR OFFICERS ARE FIGHTING."

On the Marine ship, officers shout orders across the deck. "OUR ENEMIES ARE FISHMEN SO DO NOT LET DOWN YOUR GUARDS, MEN!" "WE MUST SHOW THEM THAT WE'RE PREPARED TO FIGHT NO MATTER WHAT!" "FIRE ANOTHER SHOT THEN. THIS IS OUR DECLARATION OF WAR!" A subordinate reports, "COMMODORE! IT SEEMS THAT THE CANNONBALL FAILED TO EXPLODE." Someone murmurs, "THAT'S STRANGE..." The crew answers, "YES, COMMODORE PURIN PURIN!" Below deck a cannon fires with a loud "ばっ！" as a marine yells "LIGHTING THE CANNON!" An explosion rocks the hull; sailors scream "AGHHH!" and "WAIT." From the water a fishman blasts a powerful "WATER GUN!" sending marines flying with cries of "AGHH!"

Commodore Purin Purin stands tall on the tilting deck, cape billowing. A marine gasps "SIR!" while another shouts "WAIT! CALM DOWN, MEN!" and "PREPARE FOR BATTLE!" Someone cries "IT'S THE ARLONG PIRATES!" Purin Purin declares, "MY MEN AND I ARE A FAIRLY RENOWNED TROOP OF ELITE MARINES, I'D BE BEST IF YOU JUST SURRENDERED PEACEFULLY..." and "I AM COMMODORE PURIN PURIN OF THE MARINE'S 77TH BRANCH." Fishmen burst through the wreckage; enraged marines roar "KILL HIM!" as Purin Purin snarls "HOW DARE YOU...!"

A fishman clings beneath the hull, smirking "HEH." Sailors panic, "COULD A FISHMAN BE UNDERNEATH OUR SHIP RIGHT NOW!I" "WHAT'S GOING ON!I" The fishman named Chew points and explains, "CHU ♥ THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA. AND A SHIP WITHOUT A WORKING RUDDER HAS ONLY ONE DESTINATION..." With a massive "スゴゴゴゴゴ" the rudder is torn free. Another fishman yells "LET'S DO THIS!" and "MY JOB'S TO MOVE THIS REEF...!" as the sea erupts in "ウオオオオオ!"

The fishmen continue their assault. One growls "LET'S MAKE THIS SHIP EASIER TO SINK..." while Purin Purin demands "JUST WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT!I" A fishman laughs "JUST WHAT DO YOU SUPPOSE WILL HAPPEN THENI" as the hull cracks with "ズズゥウ" and "オオオオオオ." Another fishman states, "A GREAT REEF WAS MOVED, YOU KNOW! RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A STRONG TIDAL CURRENT..." The Marine ship is dragged helplessly toward jagged rocks while sailors scream "AHhhh!" and "EII!!!"

A massive Marine ship struggles violently in a sudden gigantic whirlpool that has appeared directly ahead. Crew members shout in panic: "AGHH! A GIGANTIC WHIRLPOOL SUDDENLY APPEARED RIGHT IN FRONT OF US!" "THE RUDDER WON'T WORK!" "THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!" The vessel is sucked into a spiraling vortex as smaller panels show the swirling water and a terrified close-up of a screaming sailor: "WE'RE BEING SUCKED IN!" On the shore of Cocoyasi Village, Nami stands with a grim, downcast expression. Narration reads: "NO ONE CAN HOPE TO ESCAPE FROM ARLONG'S RULE. THIS IS THE CRUEL REALITY..." Villagers including Genzo watch helplessly as a small group kneels on the beach. One villager says, "EVEN THOUGH THEY CAME TO SAVE US..."

Inside Arlong Park, Arlong stands with his back to the viewer, arms spread wide, declaring: "WITH NAMI'S SEA CHARTS AND OUR ABILITIES, NO ONE CAN CHALLENGE US ON THE SEAS. HEH, IT'S NOTHING AS LONG AS WE KNOW EVERYTHING THERE IS TO KNOW ABOUT THESE SEAS FROM THE WINDS TO THE OCEAN FLOORS." A fish-man with a fur hat and sharp teeth grins menacingly: "SORRY FOR MAKING YOU GO THROUGH ALL THAT TROUBLE, BOYS..." Arlong continues, "SPEAKING OF WHICH, NAMI'S AN INVALUABLE MEMBER IF WE'RE TO CREATE OUR ARLONG EMPIRE." When reminded of the promise to free Nami's village once she pays 100 million beli, Arlong roars with a fierce close-up: "I'M A MAN WHO WOULD RATHER DIE THAN BREAK A PROMISE INVOLVING MONEY...! OF COURSE, AS I'VE SAID BEFORE," while a small "CHU" heart floats near one of the fish-men.

On the beach, Johnny yells at Luffy: "WELL HE'S MAKING UP BULLCRAP! LUFFY, STOP! IT'S NOT AS IF JOHNNY'S THE ONE AT FAULT HERE! AND I SWEAR I'LL KICK YOUR ASS! SAY IT ONE MORE TIME," while Yosaku tries to hold him back. Luffy's face fills the panel in extreme close-up, eyes blazing with fury as he shouts: "WE'RE CREW-MATES! THERE'S NO WAY THAT NAMI WOULD KILL USOPP!" From below, someone asks, "JUST WHO DID YOU CALL CREWMATES, LUFFYI" A shocked voice stammers, "NAMI..." Usopp clutches his face in disbelief: "IT'S FINE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BELIEVE IT...! BUT I SAW IT WITH MY VERY OWN EYES...!"
