Sabo's Adventure

At Kyros' house on a hill in eastern Dressrosa, Robin tells Kyros, "I just came to see his face one last time." Rebecca says, "Robin! There's no need to wake him." Robin asks, "Are you leaving Dressrosa already?" and explains that CP Zero have turned back and are heading for Dressrosa again. In the crowded hideout, she warns, "You guys should also set sail as soon as possible. Within a day or two, Dressrosa's gonna be quite the hectic place." Someone muses, "Still... to think that there was another brother besides Ace..."

The Straw Hats and allies talk about Sabo while Luffy sleeps. Franky says, "Seriously, this is the first I've ever heard of it!" and someone says, "Luffy was probably the most surprised, to be honest." Luffy lies unconscious while the group remembers the brothers' sake ceremony. They recall, "The three of us exchanged vows of brotherhood over cups of sake," and that Ace and Luffy were shocked when Sabo agreed to become pirates. Sabo's old farewell words are remembered: "Old man Crap did his best to keep us on a short leash... but once we agreed on becoming pirates... when we were kids, Ace, Luffy and I thought of life as if we were quite the handful..."

A flashback begins from Sabo's memory after his childhood accident. He remembers Ace shouting "Sabo!" and Luffy crying, "Ace! Luffy! Run!" as the Celestial Dragon's cannon destroys his boat. Sabo says, "But, one day, I... I met with an accident. Or, well, an 'incident'." He wakes in a filthy place and says, "This place is almost like a bird cage. I can never be free! As long as I'm here... it reeks of rotting humans! Haa... this country stinks more than a garbage dump!" The boy asks, "What is that matter, boy?" and "What even is freedom? Where is it? I wonder..."

Sabo's rescue is shown: he screams "Ace!" and "Luffy!" while his ruined boat burns and sinks. Dragon and the Revolutionary Army find him badly injured. Dragon says, "You sure took our sweet time, didn't you, Dragon!" while a comrade asks, "How long are you gonna make us wait?!" Sabo is described as being "in critical condition," and someone urges, "For someone! Get this kid a doctor!" The revolutionaries hurry him away, but his survival comes at the cost of severe trauma and memory loss.

Sabo wakes bandaged with no memories. A revolutionary says, "He's regained consciousness but... his condition is... quite peculiar." Sabo asks, "Wha-?" and others say, "His memories... won't return?!" A name is written on his personal belongings, and they tell him, "There's the name 'Sabo' written on your personal belongings... is that your name, boy?" One says they do not know if he has family, but he has had no contact with parents. Sabo panics at the idea of going back: "No! I don't want to go back! Just take me away with you somewhere! Anywhere!"

The revolutionaries confirm Sabo is completely amnesic. One asks, "So you really were completely amnesic?" Sabo says, "The only thing clear to me... was that I, at no cost, wanted to return to my parents. I didn't remember anything else..." He later realizes, "Ace filled me in on everything. That's what I've come to realize." Robin tells him, "Wow. Good thing your memories eventually returned." But the timing was cruel: Sabo says his memories came back only when he learned Ace had died. Koala notes, "His timing couldn't have been any worse," and another asks if Sabo is okay after only listening to the events.

Sabo remembers learning the news at Revolutionary Army headquarters: "Fire Fist Ace!" and the headline about "The Yonkou, Whitebeard, and..." He asks, "Is this true?! Are you really Straw Hat Luffy's father!? You gotta be shittin' me!" Dragon says, "More importantly, look at this!" Sabo reads of Ace's execution and insists, "I'm gonna become a pirate!" Then the memory returns fully: "I'm gonna become a pirate! Then I'm gonna become a bigger pirate! I'm gonna show the world!" Koala says, "Sabo-kun, what's the matter? You're acting weirder than usual..." while Sabo collapses, panting "Haa- Haa-"

The shock of Ace's death hits Sabo all at once. Robin says, "Apparently Ace was... run through by Akainu!" Koala explains, "If you exchange vows over a cup of sake with someone, you become brothers!" Sabo realizes, "That's right..." and someone says, "The person who was killed... isn't some nameless pirate..." He screams "Sabo-kun!" and falls, crying out in agony, "Waaaaaaaaaggggghhhhhh!!!" At the bottom, Sabo's memory lands on the truth: "Ace is... my brother!"

Back in Dressrosa two years later, Sabo says, "And I'm sure as hell ain't gonna lose my other brother." A revolutionary reports that the chief of staff is awake and asks, "Seriously, what a relief!" Koala scolds him: "Did your memories come back?! Are you gonna get outta Revolutionary Army?" Another says, "You had an incredible fever, Sabo. You were out for three days straight. You had us really worried!" Sabo says he needs to meet Luffy and must ask permission to the Revolutionary Army, because there is a certain Devil Fruit he simply must have: Ace's Mera Mera no Mi.

Sabo meets Luffy before the colosseum battle. Luffy shouts, "Straw Hat Luffy!" and angrily asks, "And who the fuck are you?" Sabo reveals himself: "It's me, Luffy." Luffy is stunned, and Sabo says there is no way he will fail to recognize his little brother even if Luffy is wearing a disguise. Luffy notices the pipe and asks, "Who is 'me'? The Mera Mera no Mi..." Sabo says, "There's no way I can let Burgess obtain my little brother. Even if he's wearing a disguise." He explains, "Little brother? The only people who ever called me their little brother was Ace and..." before Luffy finally understands.

Luffy realizes the truth and cries out, "Sabo!?" The flashback recalls when Ace and Sabo exchanged cups of sake, and Sabo embraces him. Luffy bursts into tears and screams, "Sabooooooo!" while knocking into him with an "Oof." The colosseum crowd and Bartolomeo react wildly; someone yells, "Whhatt?! Boing boing!! Liiiength! Yough waaah!" and "Bwaaaagh! Gwaagh! Youh ahh!" Sabo says, "Luffy!" and then, "I'm glad too..." as the long-lost brothers reunite after Sabo's memories return.

Luffy cries in Sabo's arms, telling him, "I'm glad you're still alive!" But he also sobs, "But... Sabo! I saw Ace murdered right before my own eyes!" Sabo answers, "Yeah. Ace has died, but... I'm glad you managed to make it out of there!" Luffy admits, "I was about to lose my only two brothers without being able to do anything about it!" Sabo thanks him: "Thank you for staying alive, Luffy!" He adds that if Luffy had died too, he would have been all alone.

Back in the present hideout, Sabo checks on Luffy and the Mera Mera no Mi. Rebecca asks, "Is it okay if I... eat the Mera Mera no Mi!" Luffy wakes enough to answer, "Mmmm! That'd be for the best!" and then says, "Well then, I'm off!" Sabo says he already got to see Luffy's face. Robin tells him, "Gotcha! Don't you worry!" Sabo says, "I'm leaving him in your hands!" and explains, "I went ahead and made one for Luffy... and well, I can only imagine what his like trying to keep the reins on Luffy, but..." He also asks the others to take care of Luffy.

Sabo leaves Dressrosa and calls Hack by Den Den Mushi: "Sabo? This is Hack." Sabo answers, "Yeah, I've just left. I'll be there soon!" Zoro, smiling beside Luffy, says, "Man, that's almost the exact same thing Ace said to us..." On the other end, someone reports, "Roger. How was it? Luffy-kun was quite..." while the call cuts off with "Gacha" and "Dial tone." Hack yells, "Why the hell did you hang up, operator?!" and "Way too close! That was too close for comfort, Hack!" Sabo rides away on crows and asks, "Can you bring these out whenever you want?" The narration says the elder brother leaves until the day they meet again. End marker: "CH. 794 END."
