Four Spooks of Thriller Bark

The old, battered-looking man repeats Robin's revelation in terror: "'SHICHIBUKAI' ...!!?" Luffy asks, "GECKO MORIA?" and then turns to Robin: "FOR REAL, ROBIN?" Robin says, "HE'S A MYSTERIOUS MAN..." The victim does not know why someone like Moria is on Thriller Bark, but he warns them: "I DON'T REALLY KNOW, BUT THERE ARE MANY VICTIMS THAT WANDER AROUND THIS FOREST JUST LIKE ME..." Luffy asks, "THERE ARE MORE...!?" The man explains that because they were led there, "YOU SHOULD ASSUME THAT MORIA HAS HIS EYE ON YOU." Some shadowless victims remain trapped in the dark forest fearing zombies, while others sail out to sea but live in fear of the sun. Weeping, he says, "EITHER WAY, WE DON'T FEEL TRULY ALIVE WITH THIS KIND OF BODY... FOR ONCE, BEFORE I DIE... I'D LIKE TO WALK UNDER THE SUN AGAIN...!!"

The man's desperation embarrasses him, and he tries to harden his voice: "THAT'S HOW IT IS...!? THAT'S TOUGH...!! ALL RIGHT!! I'LL BE YOUR HELP. DON'T WORRY!!! NO, IDIOT, I AIN'T CRYING." Sanji is moved anyway: "HE'S RIGHT. HEY, GEEZER!! ONLY BEAUTIFUL LADIES CAN MAKE TEARFUL ENTREATIES!!! YOU DON'T MAKE MY HEART SKIP!!" Zoro says, "YOU EVOKED TOO MUCH FEELING FROM HIM! DON'T FEEL RESPONSIBLE FOR IT." Luffy grins and makes the problem simple: "WELL, BUT THEN, WE ARE LOOKING FOR THE GUY WHO STEALS SHADOWS. IF HE'S AFTER US, WE'LL JUST KICK HIS ASS AND OSSAN WILL BE SAVED, TOO!!" The old man is stunned: "... WH-WHAT KIND WORDS...!! NOW I HAVE HOPE, EVEN IF YOU'RE DOING IT FOR YOUR OWN REASON!!!" The other victims cheer, "I'M COUNTING ON YOU!" "GOOD LUCK!!" "JUST KICK MORIA'S ASS." Sanji mutters, "SORRY THAT WE CAN'T MAKE YOUR HEART SKIP!" and someone notices, "THE REST OF YOU VICTIMS WERE LISTENING, TOO!?"

Meanwhile, at Hogback's mansion, Usopp's team hides as Hogback's laugh echoes through the halls: "FOS!! FOS FOS FOS!!" Usopp recognizes it: "IT'S HOGBACK'S LAUGH...!!" The three peer into a room and whisper, "WHAT IS THIS ROOM?" and "IT'S HIS LAB...!!" Inside, Hogback proudly calls to Cindry: "LOOK, CINDRY-CHAN!! IT'S... ART!! A GENIUS'S WORK!!" He boasts over a body on the table, "IT'S NEAR COMPLETION!! LOOK AT THIS EXCELLENT MARIONETTE!!"

Cindry answers Hogback with cold cruelty: "I hope it fails at the last step." Hogback reels: "WHAT ARE YOU SAYING, CINDRY-CHAN!? YOUR VIOLENT WORDS HORRIFY ME EVERY TIME!!" She announces, "Dinner is ready." Hogback recovers and asks, "AH...!! YEAH, OKAY. WHAT'S ON TONIGHT'S MENU?" Cindry says, "It's spaghetti soup." Then she dumps the food onto the floor. Hogback screams, "THERE GOES THE SOUP, CINDRY-CHAN!!" Cindry adds, "Plates should just cease to exist..." Behind the door, the hidden Straw Hats whisper in shock. Usopp says, "CINDRY-CHAN'S THERE, TOO...!!" and Chopper cannot reconcile her with the obituary: "IS SHE REALLY THE GIRL THAT DIED IN THE ACCIDENT...? I CAN'T BELIEVE IT." Hogback tries to reason with her: "I UNDERSTAND YOUR FEELINGS. BUT IF YOU DON'T LIKE THEM, WHY DID YOU CHOOSE SUCH A MEAL?"

Usopp notices something on the table: "...WHAT'S THAT ON THE TABLE...?" Hogback panics over dinner, "DON'T COOK ANYTHING SOUPY ANYMORE!!" while Cindry asks, "What about the spaghetti soup...?" and he weakly says, "I... I'LL EAT IT..." Chopper studies the body and says, "IT'S PROBABLY A DEAD BODY...!! WITH THAT COMPLEXION... IT'S PROBABLY NOT ALIVE ANYMORE. JUST LIKE THOSE ZOMBIES IN THE GRAVEYARD... HE HAS A NUMBER." Nami reads the number and realizes, "AND HE SAID IT'S NEARLY COMPLETE. NOW I GET IT." Chopper concludes, "THAT MUST BE A ZOMBIE IN THE MAKING...!! HOGBACK MUST'VE REVIVED ALL THE ZOMBIES ON THIS ISLAND... I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE TO EXPLAIN IT." Nami objects to the impossible: "...BUT THE ONLY PEOPLE YOU CAN SAVE WITH MEDICINE ARE PEOPLE WHO AREN'T DEAD. NO MATTER HOW STRONG YOU MAKE THE BODY OF A DECEASED, THERE'S NO WAY THAT LIFE WILL RETURN." Usopp says, "IT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT REASONING WILL SOLVE. IF WE PEEK FROM HERE, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO UNDERSTAND THE SECRET OF REVIVING A LIFE."

Before they can keep spying, a familiar laugh cuts through the room: "YO HO HO HO HO HO!!" Brook appears and politely says, "HOW DO YOU DO!?" then tells them, "YOU SHOULD JUST ENTER INSIDE IF YOU WANT TO SEE IT!!" Usopp, Nami, and Chopper freeze: "B-" "BROOK!?" "...!!?" Hogback shouts, "WHO IS IT!!?" and the intrusion erupts into chaos as the door crashes open and someone screams, "KYAH!" and "UWAAAH!!"

Hogback and Cindry stare at the intruders. Hogback shouts, "NUA!!? WHY ARE YOU GUYS HERE...!!?" Nami realizes the body they saw was not Brook: "WHAT!? THAT WASN'T BROOK JUST NOW!!?" Chopper says, "BUT IT WASN'T A SKELETON!! IT HAD FLESH AND SKIN..." Usopp screams, "GYAAAAH, THEY FOUND US!!!" Hogback asks darkly, "WHAT DID YOU BASTARDS... SEE? DIDN'T I TELL YOU NOT TO GET ANYWHERE CLOSE TO THE LAB...?" The three deny it in panic: "W-WE DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING!! NOT A ZOMBIE IN THE MAKING, NO!!" Hogback decides it is too late: "...WELL, IT'S OKAY. I DON'T CARE WHAT SECRETS YOU FIND OUT NOW...!! IT'S TOO LATE... THE 'NIGHT ATTACK' WILL START IN A FEW MINUTES...!!" The clock ticks as a caption explains, "THE NIGHT ATTACK...WHICH MEANS TO HUNT THE GUESTS."

Across the graveyard, the zombies announce that the hunt will begin. A voice declares that those "WHO HAVE WANDERED ONTO THE ISLAND" "WILL START SOON...!!!" The beaten zombies are buried again, each one stuffed back into the earth. "YOU'VE ALL BEEN BURIED AGAIN. EVERY ONE OF YOU," someone says, as zombie dogs growl, "GARURU RURU...!!!" and digging sounds go "BECHA BECHA." The command rings out: "NOW WAKE UP, SOLDIER ZOMBIES!!!" Another voice mocks their bodies: "YOU GUYS ARE DEAD!! ITCHINESS, HOTNESS, PAIN, ALL OF IT IS JUST YOUR IMAGINATION!! YOU FALL AGAIN AND AGAIN, BUT RAISE ONCE MORE FOR ANOTHER ATTACK. THAT IS YOU ZOMBIES' TRUE TERROR...!!" The corpses begin clawing upward again, groaning, "AAAAAAH..." and "AAAAH..."

The risen zombies are sluggish and mutter, "DON'T FEEL LIKE IT..." Their commander snaps, "HEY!!! DON'T SLACK OFF!!!" One zombie is still confused and cries, "CUT IT OUT, ZOMBIES!! TELL ME WHO I AM!!!" The others answer with a cascade of titles: "YOU'RE THE LEADER!!" "OUR LEADER, ABSALOM!!" "LEAAADER!!" "LEAAA-DER!!" "LEAAA-DER!!!" Then they start mocking him instead: "THE ONE WHO LOVES PEEPING!!" "ERO-LEA-DER!!" "ERO-SALOM!!" "EEEEROS!!" Absalom's silhouette snaps, "SHUT UP!!!"

Ghosts drift toward the mansion, laughing, "HORORO RORORO..." and "HORO HORO HORO..." Kumashi greets them nervously: "W-W-WELCOME BACK, PERONA-SAMA ...AND ALL..." Perona's ghosts float in with little "OH!" sounds, but Perona scolds from the shadows, "AAAAH! SHUT UP! DON'T TALK, KUMASHI!!" He only answers, "MUKU!" Perona complains about him: "WHY DO YOU HAVE THAT APPEARANCE WITH SUCH A DEEP VOICE?! IT MAKES ME ANGRY. IF THEY'RE NOT CUTE... THEY'RE NOT QUALIFIED TO WORK FOR ME!!" Her ghosts continue, "HORO HORO HORO HORO..."

The mansion clock nears midnight. Voices race through the corridors: "HURRY!! HURRY!!" "IT'S GONNA START!! IT'S GONNA START!!" and "IT'S TIME FOR THE 'NIGHT ATTACK'!!" The monsters call for their master: "IT'S ALMOST MIDNIGHT!!" "MASTER---!!" "MORIA-SAMA---!!" "IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP!!!" Nin charges forward and shouts, "ALL RIGHT!! NIN! GO FOR IT!!" Another servant says, "HERE YOU GO!!" and launches him with a powerful "FUGOH!!?"

The call to wake Moria reaches the heart of Thriller Bark. The servants shout, "FUGAGOH!!" "MASTER---!!" and the giant figure stirs with "GOH...!!" "NMM??" "...AH...." Gecko Moria wakes from sleep and says, "AAAAH, I HAD A BAD DREAM." His followers praise him: "THAT'S MARVELOUS, MASTER!!" and tell him, "SINCE THE LAST 'NIGHT ATTACK,' IT'S BEEN FOUR DAYS, AND YOU'VE BEEN ASLEEP ALL THAT TIME." They add, "SO YOU HAVE FOUR DAYS WORTH OF MEALS, MORIA-SAMA." The target excites them: "OUR TARGET THIS TIME IS SPIRITED!!" "THEY'RE THE TALK OF THE WORLD AFTER TAKING DOWN ENIES LOBBY!!" "I'M SURE THEY WILL BE OF USE FOR MORIA-SAMA!!!" At the same time, rain begins falling over Luffy's group. Luffy says, "IT'S STARTING TO RAIN PRETTY HEAVILY," and someone asks, "SHOULD WE RUN FOR THE MANSION?" Luffy pauses, "WAIT A SEC!!" In the thinning fog, he spots something huge behind the mansion: "I SEE A MARK... BEHIND THE MANSION! I CAN SEE SOMETHING HUGE!! WHAT IS IT...? A FLAG!?"

Behind the mansion, the mark resolves into something far larger than a flag. The old victim corrects Luffy: "NO...!! THAT'S A 'SAIL,' ISN'T IT?" Luffy repeats, "A SAIL!?" The reveal swallows the entire skyline: "THIS THRILLER BARK... IS A WHOLE TOWN BEING CARRIED BY THE WORLD'S LARGEST PIRATE SHIP!!!" Luffy notices the old man is still with them and says, "YOU'RE STILL FOLLOWING US!?" The man answers, "THAT'S RIGHT!! IT'S SO LARGE THAT YOU CAN'T SEE THE BIG PICTURE." He points them toward the true center of the ship: "UNDER THE MAIN MAST WHICH YOU CAN SEE BEHIND THE MANSION... IS WHERE GECKO MORIA RESIDES."

Absalom takes command of the soldier zombie unit as the clock reaches midnight. A deep growl goes "GARURU RURU...!!" and he announces, "ALL RIGHT, SOLDIER ZOMBIE UNIT." The page identifies him as "Soldier Zombie / General Zombie General 'Graveyard Absalom'." He declares, "THE GENERAL ZOMBIES WILL FINISH OFF THE PIRATES!!!" and orders the dead to terrify their enemies by refusing to stay down: "YOU GUYS JUST KEEP RISING UP AND MAKE THEM FEAR YOU WITH YOUR IMMORTALITY!!!" The undead answer with "WUOOOH!!!" while the attack drums go "BOOOHN!! BOOOHN!!"

Perona stands before her wild and surprise zombies as the clock finishes ringing midnight. She says, "OKAY, THE CLOCK HAS RUNG MIDNIGHT. WE'RE HEADING OUT FOR REAL, TOO." Her ghosts giggle, "HORO HORO HORO... DON'T THINK YOU CAN RUN AWAY FROM HERE, FOOLS!!" The page identifies her as "Wild zombie / Surprise Zombie General Ghost Princess Perona." She calls down to her forces, "ARE YOU PREPARED, ZOMBIES!!?" and adds with interest, "I SEE... 'STRAW HAT LUFFY,' HUH... WE'LL WELCOME YOU..."

The four spooks of Thriller Bark are framed together: Absalom, Hogback, Perona, and the shadowed master whose eyes watch from darkness. Their warning spreads across the page: "HERE YOU CAN HEAR THE HAUNTS OF THE DEAD... 'THRILLER BARK' BAD DREAMS WILL COME TO YOU!!!" Below them, the mansion looms in the storm. The gates creak, "GIII..." as Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Robin, and Franky stand at the entrance. Luffy decides, "ALL RIGHT, LET'S GO!!" and the chapter sends them forward "TO THE HAUNTED HOUSE!!!"
