Chapter 916, "A Great Sumo Match in the Wano Country," begins with Urashima frozen in humiliation after O-Kiku slices off his topknot. The narration says the yokozuna's pride fades away, and the crowd gasps that not only did Urashima get dumped, but his topknot was cut off too. His hairpiece drops with a rustle, and the huge wrestler's face darkens as he realizes the disgrace. O-Kiku stands composed in the ring, while everyone around her understands the seriousness of what just happened. In Bakura Town's social order, this was not merely a haircut; it was a public wound to Urashima's rank, masculinity, and authority.

Urashima's shame erupts into rage. He bellows, "So, you betrayed meeeee?!" and roars O-Kiku's name across the arena: "O-Kikuuuuuu!!!!" The crowd recoils, saying he looks like a demon and crying, "Woah!!" O-Kiku asks in alarm, "Why did I... do that in front of so many people...!?" Her face shows the weight of the public act, but Urashima gives no room for reflection. He towers over the sumo ring like a monster whose authority has just been challenged. The crowd's fear and O-Kiku's shock make the moment feel less like a tournament dispute and more like a feudal punishment about to begin.

O-Kiku recognizes the danger immediately: "Oh, no... that stance is...!!" She knows Urashima is preparing his Equinox Harite, a technique that sends his opponents flying. Someone begs, "Please forgive me, Lord Urashima!" but Urashima is past restraint. He calls O-Kiku an "inferior womaaaaaan!!" and swings down, shouting, "Die!! You low-class..." Luffy moves at once. Before the strike can crush her, he stretches into action with "Gomu Gomu no..." The scene turns on a clear moral line: Urashima's public violence targets a woman for rejecting him, and Luffy intervenes before that hierarchy can land its blow.

Luffy intercepts Urashima with a sumo-style palm strike: "Tsuppari!!" The impact stops the yokozuna's attack and knocks him back, leaving the crowd stunned. O-Kiku cries out as the clash explodes across the ring, and Urashima grunts in pain. Luffy follows through so hard that Urashima is driven into the surrounding structure with a crash, while the spectators yell, "Skid skid...!" The page makes the reversal blunt. Urashima's supposedly fatal harite never reaches O-Kiku; Luffy answers it with an even more forceful open-palm strike, turning the yokozuna's own arena language against him.

Urashima is thrown across the arena, and the crowd cries, "The yokozuna was...!!" Luffy nearly slips into the danger himself, with voices shouting, "Don't falter, yokozuna!!" and "Too close!!" O-Kiku calls, "Luffytaro!!!" while people realize both Luffy and O-Kiku are safe. The ring erupts in panic and amazement as Luffy survives the clash and stands before the enormous wrestler. For a moment the town's entire hierarchy is suspended: a stranger from nowhere has stepped into the sacred spectacle, protected O-Kiku, and met the yokozuna's power head-on without being flattened.

Urashima demands to know who Luffy is and why he blocked his harite. He threatens, "If I don't rip o-kiku limb from limb... my honour will be tainted!!" Luffy answers in the only language the ring respects: "Let's sumo wrestle!! I'm great at it, after all!!!" He is introduced in the ring as a pirate and sumo wrestler aspirant, Luffytaro, with a fictional record of complete victory over Usopp. Urashima allows it only if Luffy can beat him, while Luffy tells him to get out of his way. The crowd mocks Luffy's size and asks what he is thinking, but Luffy has already turned the rescue into a challenge under the town's own rules.

Luffy and Urashima exchange rapid palm strikes in the ring. Luffy calls "Buddhist Harite!!!" while the crowd gasps that he is pretty agile and that Urashima cannot dodge the attack. Urashima responds with more sumo blows, shouting techniques such as "Eye Crusher!!!" and "Ear Splitter," while Luffy complains, "Hey!! Aren't those against the rules!?" The crowd also shouts that Luffy will not win if he keeps running away. The fight becomes absurd and dangerous at once: Urashima's sumo is mixed with dirty attacks, while Luffy dodges, counters, and treats the entire elite tournament like a chaotic brawl.

Inside Holdem's residence, the news of the arena reaches him. A subordinate reports, "Master Holdem! A woman cut off the yokozuna's top knot? It's caused a huge uproar!" Holdem only snarls, "And? What the hell do you want me to do about it...!?" Elsewhere, Luffy stretches his arms and shrugs, "Oh, well... whatever!" as he prepares to escalate the fight. Holdem's response shows that the officials care less about justice than about whether the disorder reaches them. The page links the public chaos outside with the officer who holds Tama, while Luffy keeps moving closer to the real target without fully knowing it.

Holdem tortures Tama while trying to understand her power. He pinches her cheek and says, "I'm busy right now. I'm trying to... pinch this kid's cheek off!" Tama cries, "It hurts!!" and begs, "Please forgive me!! I'll give ya back your baboon! Please stop...!!" Holdem calls the Kozuki family nothing but evil, claiming they were planning to destroy the country twenty years ago. When Tama mentions the Kozuki family, he says she should not cling to the dead. Meanwhile Hawkins heads toward the town, telling someone, "You're no match for him!! He'll have a straw hat around his neck!! Don't lay a hand on him!! I'm heading that way now." Law realizes Luffy is in danger of colliding with Holdem.
Luffy commits to a decisive strike and slams Urashima with another massive "Tsuppari!!!!!" The blow lands with absurd force. Urashima is launched across Bakura Town, smashing through buildings while people scream. The crowd had wondered what Luffy could be, whether he was really just another tiny challenger, but the answer arrives in the shape of the yokozuna's enormous body flying away. The page turns the tournament into wreckage. Urashima, who had broken dozens of bones in others, is now the one hurled helplessly through the town by a pirate who treated sumo as a rescue tool.

Urashima's body crashes through Bakura Town with a massive impact. Roofs and walls splinter as he is blown away, and the crowd screams, "Yokozunaaa!!!" and "Urashima was blown away!!" Someone says, "You've gotta be joking...!! He shouldn't have lost to such a little shrimp!!" O-Kiku watches in shock with her hands over her mouth. The entire arena understands that the town's strongest sumo wrestler has been defeated in public. The fall is not only physical; it cuts through the illusion that Bakura Town's privileged champions cannot be touched by outsiders, ronin, or people from the leftovers.

The crowd recognizes Zoro and panics. They shout, "He's...!! He's that magistrate murderer!!" and "Ah... he's Zorojuro!!!" When they see him beside O-Kiku and Luffy, someone wonders whether he is also part of that group with the strong female swordsman and the little sumo-wrestling shrimp. Luffy ignores the accusations and points from Koma-chiyo, shouting, "Hey!! Call the boss of this town over here!!! We came here to take Tama back!!" O-Kiku rides with her sword ready, while people scream that they are rebels and dangerous. The rescue is now completely public: Luffy has announced why he came, and Bakura Town sees him as an open enemy.

The authorities react by sending men after them. A subordinate points out, "Tama is that kid that Master Holdem caught!!" and orders, "Go get 'em...!!!" O-Kiku asks what she should do, but Zoro tells her to stop spacing out because he is going to watch her back. Luffy shouts at the surrounding enemies, "Call him out here right now!!" and then asks, "Sh-should I cut them...?" Zoro tells him, "Slice through them if you want to save Tama!!" O-Kiku answers with resolve, "I do want to save her!!" She draws her sword and cuts through the attackers while calling, "Wait for me, Tama!!" The rescue effort now belongs to all three of them.

The fight spreads through the town. A guard warns, "If you don't call your boss over here, none of you are getting out of this alive," but Luffy demands the name of the boss instead: "What's your boss's name?" The answer comes: "Ho... Holdem..." Luffy immediately roars, "Come out here, Holpig!!!" and warns, "If you've done anything to Tama, I'll never forgive you...!!" Bakura Town panics as flames appear and someone shouts to call the firefighters. Luffy's anger is no longer hidden behind the tournament. He is calling Holdem out directly in the middle of enemy territory because Tama is being hurt.

Holdem finally appears, furious that the chaos has reached his residence. Luffy shouts, "So you finally showed up!" and Holdem answers, "I didn't really have a choice, did I?" His men cry, "Master Holdem!!!" as he steps out with Tama trapped in the lion mouth at his stomach. The lion growls while Tama cries, "Big bro...!" Holdem snaps, "How dare you destroy my house with all of your sumo wrestling...!!" and another voice says Urashima flew toward them, so now the house is in ruins. Luffy and O-Kiku both scream Tama's name. The chapter's conflict converges: the sumo match, the destroyed town, and the kidnapping all meet in Holdem's body.

Holdem notices their swords and asks whether they are subordinates of Shuten-maru, the thief. He says, "I guess you want to rescue this kid, but... I'd suggest not moving another inch!! I can crush her with these jaws at a moment's notice!!" Tama cries, "Big bro..." while Luffy realizes, "His stomach is a lion..." Outside town, one of Law's men reports that Master Holdem is now sixteen, and that Captain Hawkins has just arrived at the entrance of Bakura Town. The situation continues to escalate. Holdem snarls, "I don't plan on returning her, you dumbass!!" while Luffy answers with absolute resolve: "I'm going to save you now, Tama!!" Law's subordinate begs, "Captain, don't leave me behind...!!"
