Captain of the Fishman Pirates, the Shichibukai Jimbei

On Level 1, Crimson Hell, Mr. 3's Candle Wall holds back Magellan's Hydra while prisoners tell the others not to just stand there and to get going. Magellan is surprised and asks, "Wax...?" Mr. 3 explains, "That's right, I ate the Doru Doru Fruit and I'm a candle man. This wax wall is as hard as iron. Your venom won't pass through!!!" Crocodile remarks that one never knows how abilities will interact, and the prisoners cheer that Magellan's Hydra was stopped and say they have gained even more respect for "3 bro."

Luffy realizes Mr. 3 can stop Magellan and says that only as long as the escapees move now can one of the hot floors be closed off. He tells the others to hurry ahead and take a ship while he tries to stop the poison guy until they get there, saying he has an idea. Jimbei asks whether Luffy really has a plan and warns that taking a ship with Magellan on their backs would be difficult. Luffy says they will all fight together, but Mr. 3 panics that he has no intention of fighting and was planning to run while the guard was up. The prisoners say they are weak but will stay too, while Mr. 3 insists, "I'm telling you, I don't want to!!"

Mr. 3 outfits Luffy with huge wax gloves and wax boots. Luffy beams that it will work and calls it perfect while prisoners warn him to pay attention and not get distracted. He thanks Mr. 3 and says the wax made him look cool, but Magellan orders him to fight rather than admire the gear. Magellan launches "Hydra!!!" again, and the poison surges toward Luffy. The page turns Mr. 3's cowardly support into Luffy's answer to poison: armor that lets him touch Magellan without being immediately poisoned.

Mr. 3 throws up another "Candle Wall!!!" but Magellan says that will not work. Luffy begins "Gomu Gomu..." and fires "Champion Rifle!!!" through the wax protection, punching into the Hydra and striking toward Magellan through the poison. Magellan groans while Luffy realizes, "All right!! I can touch him!!!" The attack proves that the wax armor is not just a shield but a way for Luffy to fight Magellan directly without sacrificing his hands to poison.

Magellan notices that cannons have been set up overhead with candle shields. Prisoners and Mr. 3 prepare the guns, shouting, "The cannons are set up over here with candle shields!!" The barrage and wax walls create a chance to delay Magellan. Meanwhile, at the Impel Down sea surface and front gates, the escaping prisoners believe there are no enemies left now that they have gotten this far. Buggy celebrates, but someone tells him not to let his guard down, calling him an amateur.

At the front gates, the escapees realize the problem is not over. They say there are ten battleships outside with 800 Marines on each, and they do not know how prepared the fleet is. To escape, they need to steal one ship, meaning all ten battleships may be against them. The prisoners rush the gates, shouting that they are finally out into the sun again, but others remind them they are not in the clear yet. One prisoner declares that no matter how many thousands of men wait outside, they will break through and get to the ocean. The gate crashes open as the mob charges.

Outside Impel Down, the prisoners stare into the mist and ask, "Where are the battleships!?" They panic when they realize there are no ships to steal and not a single guard. Someone says Magellan ordered the ships to set sail just now, meaning the escapees have no choice but to wait for Magellan to catch them. The sea itself is dangerous because the Calm Belt is full of giant Sea Kings, making it Impel Down's greatest defense. Jimbei, however, steps forward and says, "Rest assured!! I'm here!!! Leave it to me...!!!"

A prisoner finds a small Den Den Mushi, and Jimbei tells the others to hold onto him. Crocodile and Mr. 1 stand ready on a huge gate section that Jimbei is carrying like it weighs nothing. The prisoners are astonished and shout that he is carrying the heavy gate as if it is nothing, identifying him as "the Captain of the Fishman Pirates." Jimbei has turned a piece of the prison into a raft and prepares to bring Crocodile and Mr. 1 across the water toward the fleet.

The prisoners cheer as Jimbei heads out, saying they are getting shivers because they never imagined they would be able to see a Shichibukai fight. They say their hopes are revived because their savior, Captain Buggy, went along like it was nothing. Buggy, however, laughs privately that of course it is safer to be with two Shichibukai idiots than sitting around waiting for Magellan to come. The Marines on the distant ships spot the escaping group, and someone shouts, "They've spotted us!!!"

The Marine battleships open fire, but the raft dodges quickly. Marines shout that Jimbei is no ordinary fishman and call him "Jimbei, the Knight of the Sea." Jimbei says that as long as they get him to a ship, the fleet is done for, then tells the others, "I'll fire you onto the ship's deck. Hold on tight." Buggy panics and asks what Jimbei is saying, but Jimbei tells him to shut up. He uses Fishman Jujutsu, "Mizu-Gokoro," preparing to manipulate the sea itself.

Jimbei gathers the current and twists it around him, using "Kairyu Ipponzeoi!!!" The water coils like a rope and lifts the raft's momentum into a powerful throw. Buggy groans in terror while Jimbei focuses on the wave, turning the Calm Belt's water into a weapon and launch path. The technique shows why Jimbei can solve a sea problem that no ordinary prisoner or pirate can handle.

Jimbei's water launch sends the raft straight toward a Marine battleship. Buggy screams, and even Crocodile asks why Buggy came at all. Marines on the ship shout, "Oi oi oi, Jimbei, you bastard!!" and warn that the attack is coming right at them. The wave rises high, carrying the makeshift raft and its passengers toward the deck like a living spear of water. It is less a normal boarding attempt than Jimbei using the ocean as a throwing arm.

The Marines stare at the towering water spout and ask whether it is alive. Someone says there is no idea what it is, but then another voice realizes someone is riding it: Crocodile. The water crashes onto the ship and delivers Jimbei, Crocodile, Buggy and Mr. 1 onto the deck. The prisoners shout, "They're here!!!" as the first boarding team successfully reaches the fleet.

The Marines try to stand their ground, saying the escapees came to take the ship and they will not let them have it. Their plan is to toss the intruders into the water and win. Crocodile coldly repeats, "Toss them into the water?" and says it looks like they do not know who they are dealing with. Crocodile, Jimbei and Mr. 1 stand surrounded on the deck, but the mood has shifted: the Marines are facing two Shichibukai and a former Baroque Works assassin at close range.

Jimbei prepares Fishman Karate as Marines hesitate and then order each other not to falter and to fire. He uses "Yari-Nami!!!" or Spear Wave, sending a piercing blast of water into the ship. Marines scream as the attack hits, but Jimbei realizes, "Ohh... I was careless! That's the ship we're going to take!!" The chapter ends the action beat with Jimbei's power solving the sea crossing but also threatening to destroy the very vessel the escapees need.
