G-5 Base Commander: "Kichiku" Vergo

The group flees through a connecting passage between A and B-Block. A massive furry creature carries several people on its back while smoke and debris fill the air. Someone shouts, “THEY SACRIFICED THE LAB TO LET THE GAS IN!!” Brownbeard roars, “WHEN DID YOU ALL SNEAK ABOARD!!” A voice replies, “WE CAN'T REST YET! HURRY IT UP, BROWN-BEARD!!” Brownbeard yells, “YOU'RE AS HEAVY AS I THOUGHT!!” In a lower panel a Marine-like figure snaps, “WHAT A TERRIBLE EXCUSE!!! GET THE HELL OFF ME!!!” Another answers, “WE'RE ALL REALLY TIRED AND SICK OF RUNNING.” A third states, “BUT WE DON'T HAVE A CHOICE HERE!!” Brownbeard retorts, “YEAH, SORRY. YOU'LL JUST HAVE TO BEAR IT...!!”

Brownbeard shouts, “GET OFF ME, YOU IDIOTS!!” while panting. Kin'emon declares, “BUT AFTER RUNNING SO MUCH, I'VE BECOME QUITE SICK OF IT, THAT I HAVE!!” He continues, “I REGRET THE INCONVENIENCE, BUT WITHOUT A MOMENT'S DELAY I MUST RESCUE MY SON MOMONOSUKE, THAT I MUST!!” Brownbeard growls at him, “HOW RELAXED ARE YOU GONNA GET!! IF YOU'RE NOT HURT, THEN RUN ON YOUR OWN!!! HAA... HAA...” Kin'emon replies calmly, “I'M PRETTY HUNGRY.” and “I AM A SAMURAI, SO I DO NOT HUNGER.” Brownbeard yells, “SHUT THE HELL UP!! BROWN-BEARD-SAN, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO EATI” Kin'emon answers, “YOU CAN HANG IT UP HERE.” and “BUT WHAT IF IT WERE TO GET COLD AGAINI” Someone notes, “NOW THAT WE'RE IN THE LAB, THIS COAT IS A BIT HOT.” Brownbeard threatens, “I'M GONNA SHAKE YOU ALL OFF!!” while panting heavily.

A final Marine yells, “WE HAVE TO GET OFF THIS ISLAND AND REPORT TO HQ!!!” as the group flees through the damaged passage.

Marines stare upward in shock as something crashes through the ceiling. “EH” “HOLD ON!! WHAT IS THAT UP BY THE CEILING!!I” one yells. Tashigi, adjusting her glasses, replies calmly, “I'M SORRY,...I UNDERSTAND ALL THAT QUITE WELL. LET'S GO!!” A massive impact erupts as a small dragon-like creature smashes down amid debris and smoke. “GYAH HHHHHH HHH!!!” Marines are sent flying, one shouting in terror. In the aftermath, Tashigi and a G-5 soldier examine the beast. “IT LOOKS LIKE A LIZARD OR SOMETHING!!” “WHEN DID IT COME THIS FAR...!!I” “WHAT THE HELL!I WHAT IS THAT THING!!I” “THAT...!! ISN'T THAT THE THING THAT CAME IN WITH THE STRAWHAT CREW!!I” Tashigi recalls, “I'VE HEARD ABOUT THIS. THERE ARE DRAGONS ON PUNK HAZARD!!!”

The dragon looms larger, jaws open wide. “DRAGONS!!I” a Marine cries. Another recalls, “THAT'S RIGHT. DR. VEGAPUNK DEVELOPED THE MYTHICAL BEASTS ARTIFICIALLY IN ORDER TO GUARD THIS ISLAND!!!” “BUT WHEN WE SAW IT BEFORE... IT WASN'T MAKING SUCH AN INTIMIDATING FACE, WAS IT!I” The creature charges, smashing through the room. “BANG!! BANG!!” Marines scatter as it rampages. “THIS IS BAD, RUN AWAY!!!” one shouts. The beast lunges but misses its target. “IT DODGED!!I” the G-5 soldiers react in panic, weapons drawn.

The dragon thrashes violently, biting through steel pipes and structures. “UOAH HHHHH HH!!!” Marines are hurled aside. “RUN AWAY, TO B-BLOCK!!!” Tashigi orders. “CRAP CRAP CRAP THAT'S STEEL!!! IF ONE WERE TO GET BITTEN BY THAT JAW...” “AND IT CAN BITE THROUGH STEEL!!! WHAT'S WITH THIS MONSTER!!!” The creature breathes fire and moves at incredible speed. “IT FLIES, IT'S SUPER-FAST, IT BREATHES FIRE” a soldier warns as chaos erupts around them.

The dragon smashes through the ceiling and escapes upward. “UWAH HH!!!” Marines yell. “EHI” one wonders. In the lower corridor Tashigi and a soldier watch it flee. “THEY'RE MAKING A RUCKUS OVER BY THE EXIT TO THE PASSAGE...!I” “IT PASSED US BY!!I IS IT RUNNING AWAYI” “DID SOMETHING SCARE IT” “GRRR RR!!” the dragon growls in the distance. “THANK GOD!!! EVERYTHING'LL BE ALRIGHT NOW!!!” a Marine cheers. Tashigi turns in surprise as reinforcements arrive. “AHH! EH!I SERIOUSLYI” “I CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!” “CAPTAIN TASHIGI!! REJOICE!! A STRONG REINFORCEMENT HAS COME TO PUNK HAZARD!!”

Vergo stands tall in the ruined corridor as G-5 marines react in shock and relief. One marine shouts, "CAPTAIN-CHAN, TAKE A LOOK!!! VICE ADMIRAL VERGO HAS COME TO SAVE US!!!" Another yells, "BEFORE OUR DEN DEN MUSHI WAS STOLEN, WE WERE ABLE TO CONNECT WITH SOMEONE!!" A third wonders, "SO DOES HQ ALREADY KNOW ABOUT EVERYTHING, VICE ADMIRAL...I" while another panics, "WHAT SORT OF REINFORCEMENTS ARE WE GOING TO GET!!!I" Smoker glares with narrowed eyes and clenched teeth. Tashigi stares wide-eyed, murmuring "VERGO...!!" Below, marines raise their fists in excitement: "VICE ADMIRAL SMO-YAN AND VICE ADMIRAL VERGO!! WE'VE GOT G-5'S TWO BEST GUYS ASSEMBLED!! WE'LL BE UNBEATABLE!!" One marine urges, "NO...!!! RUN AWAY, EVERYONE..."

Vergo suddenly attacks, slamming a marine with a brutal strike that sends bodies flying. Large sound effects "ドッドッドッドド" echo as marines are hurled through the air, one screaming "!!!I" and another "IT HURTS!!" Vergo's gloved fist drips blood while marines collapse in pain with cries of "EHI", "GYA HH!!!", and "EHII" A marine in the background shouts "!!!I" as chaos erupts. Vergo looms over the fallen G-5 soldiers, his expression cold and merciless.

A marine screams in terror, "IF WE'RE HIT BY YOUR SHIGAN, WE'LL..." while another questions, "V-V-VICE ADMIRAL VERGO, I KNOW THEY SCREWED UP, BUT...!I" Vergo stands in the G-5 base hall and speaks calmly: "THE MEN OF G-5 ARE A ROUGH BUNCH OF FOOLS, BUT IF YOU GET TO KNOW THEM, YOU'LL SEE THAT THEY'RE NOT AS BAD AS PEOPLE SAY. WELCOME. I'VE HEARD ABOUT YOU COMMODORE SMOKER. I LOOK FORWARD TO WORKING WITH YOU." Tashigi sweats nervously, thinking "GYAH HHHH". Vergo continues, "I SUSPECT YOU'LL COME TO SEE THEM AS YOUR DEAR LITTLE UNDERLINGS." A marine laughs, "SOMETIMES HE JUST PICKS UP AND HEADS BACK TO HIS HOMETOWN!! HE GOES TO CARE FOR HIS SICK LITTLE SISTER..." while another asks, "VICE ADMIRAL VERGOI"

Vergo reports, "AH... WE LOOKED INTO IT EXTENSIVELY AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN ANOTHER FALSE REPORT. VICE ADMIRAL VERGO, CONCERNING THE REPORT ABOUT KIDNAPPED CHILDREN FROM THE OTHER DAY..." A marine captain protests, "THERE'S NO EXCUSE. I TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE BLUNDER OF MY MEN!! WE WILL HELP YOU HOWEVER WE CAN...!!!" while another demands, "CAN YOU REALLY CALL YOURSELVES MARINES!!I" Tashigi asks, "...IS THAT SO." Vergo replies, "YOU'LL UNDERSTAND TOO, IF YOU EVER BECOME A PARENT. CLINGING TO THE HOPE THAT IT MAY SIMPLY BE A KIDNAPPING ALLOWS THEM TO LIVE." He then draws his bamboo sword and strikes violently, shouting "THAT MAN IS NO LONGER THE ONE YOU ONCE KNEW!!!" as marines are sent flying with impact sounds "ドンッ" and "ガッ". Someone yells, "EVERYONE GET AWAY!"

Marines scream in panic as their captain lies beaten. “CAPTAIN-CHAN!!!” one shouts. Another cries, “HE HAS BEEN… HAA… FOR A LONG TIME NOW…” A brutal kick sends the woman in the fishnet top flying; she crashes down with a pained “AHH!!!”. The G-5 soldiers stare in horror at the man they believed was Vice Admiral Vergo. “VICE ADMIRAL VERGO IS…!!!!” “IS IT A DISGUISEI IS HE AN ABILITY USER!I” “IT’S GOTTA BE AN IMITATION!!!” “THIS GUY’S AN IMPOSTOR!!!” “THERE’S NO WAY VERGO-SAN WOULD DO SOMETHING LIKE THIS!!!” The impostor looms over the fallen woman amid shattered debris and impact lines.

The G-5 soldiers refuse to accept the truth. “HE’S HUMANE AND JUST!!! SO DROP THE ACT, PHONY!!!” one yells. Another adds, “HE’S A GUY WHO ALWAYS STICKS UP EVEN FOR A BUNCH OF GOOD-FOR-NOTHING SOLDIERS LIKE US…”. The impostor laughs as chaos erupts around the base. A desperate voice calls, “HELP US, SMOKER-SAN!!!” while the beaten woman pleads, “PLEASE STOP…!!!” and gasps, “I CAN’T SPEAK”. Elsewhere a marine notices, “A LADY IS…” as Smoker appears with a sharp “!I” and the impostor is sent flying with a massive “DANG!!!” impact.

The impostor Vergo is hurled backward by a powerful strike, debris flying. “CALLING OUT FOR ME!!!” he snarls. In a smaller panel Sanji stands with a cigarette, stating, “I HEARD THE FALL OF A WOMAN’S TEARS.” A marine shouts, “S-S-STRAW-HAT CREW!!” while another wonders, “WHY IS A PIRATE…!I” The impostor crashes through the wall with a huge impact effect as the scene shifts to the sudden arrival of the Straw Hats.

Sanji explains, “IT’S BECAUSE AN UNFAMILIAR PRESENCE APPEARED BEHIND US. NEVER MIND IT…!!!” Nami replies, “BUT IT LOOKS A BIT DIFFERENT”. Kin’emon recognizes the attacker: “THAT…!!! IT’S THE DRAGON FROM BEFORE!!” A massive dragon-like creature rampages through B-Block of the Brownbeard bus terminal. “HMMI” someone mutters. The Yeti Cool Brothers appear, one growling, “HAA…HAA… THE SMALLER ONES ARE EVOLVED MODELS THAT WERE DEVELOPED LATER. IT’S QUICKER AND ITS BODY IS HARDER!! IT’S MOVING IN TO ATTACK!!!” while another yells, “OF COURSE! THE SEDATIVE MUST HAVE WORN OFF” and “THOSE EYES…!!!” as the beast roars “GRRRRR!!!”.

Narration explains the plan: TAKING THE SHORTEST PATH THROUGH B-BLOCK AND HEADING TO ATTACK CAESAR'S RESEARCH ROOM while MAKING A MAD DASH AND GOING AHEAD OF EVERYONE—LUFFY AND SMOKER. Smoke and debris fill the air with SFX like ドッドッドッド and ドギャアアアア. In the facility hallway, a voice declares, THE MEN OF G-5 WERE A NECESSARY PART OF MY EXPERIMENT!! Another shouts, WHAT HAS THAT BASTARD VERGO GONE AND DONE!!! A figure warns, THAT IDIOT! THERE'S NO POINT IF THEY'RE NOT KILLED BY SHINOKUNI!! The harpy-like woman with wings snaps, YOU THINK I CARE ABOUT THAT MORON'S LIFE!! DO IT!!! A scarred man questions, WITH VERGO IN THERE TOOI Instructions follow: HURRY UP AND SEAL THEM IN THE PASSAGE, AND THEN OPEN THE OTHER GATE TO LET IN THE GAS!!! Caesar's research room sign is visible as the group moves to seal the area.

Luffy lunges forward with a massive punch, yelling YOU WON'T GET AWAY AGAIN!! while a scarred man growls URGG HHHHHH HHHHH!! and CAAAAAE EEEEEEEE EESAR!!! SFX explode across the panel. Nearby, a marine pants HAA... *PANT* HAA... *WHEEZE* *WHEEZE* *COUGH* HAA... HAA... while another voice says YOU ALRIGHTI The reply comes: NO I'M NOT!! JUST HOLD UP THERE, YOU... HAA... HAA...! I... I RAN SO FAST THAT THE GROUND CAUGHT ON FIRE!! HAA... HAA... A DING DONG sound rings as Luffy catches his breath, saying HAA... OKAY, I'M GETTING THERE. HAA... HAA... HAA... JUST WAIT UNTIL I SAY "GO." Voices urge RIGHT. YOU READYI and warn YOU... HAA... HAA... THAT'S CHEATING ISN'T IT. FLOATING AND FLYING AROUND LIKE THAT, HAA... The scarred man blocks Luffy, declaring IT'S FINE. VERGO IS MY OPPONENT...!!! while Luffy retorts HEY!! I DIDN'T SAY "GO" YET!! *WHEEZE* *WHEEZE* SO DON'T GET IN MY WAY!! HAA... HAA... and the scarred man answers TCH. AH. IT'S MY GUY. A distant HAA... YEAH I GOT IT. AND I'LL BE TAKING CAESAR. echoes as they clash.
