There's a Way

Inside the Enies Lobby Tower of Justice, Spandam suddenly remembers something. "Ah, wait guys," he says, stopping CP9 and adding, "I forgot about this... Take these with you..." He presents two strange fruits, their spiral patterns immediately recognizable. Kalifa and Kaku each hold one in silence while the others react in alarm from the hallway. "Uooooo!! Hey, hey!!! Wait, that's...!!!" someone shouts, and the answer comes in a full cry: "It's a Devil Fruit!!!" The story pauses on the weight of those two fruits. In the middle of Robin's transfer and the Straw Hats' invasion, Spandam casually hands CP9 powers that could permanently change the shape of the coming battles.

Jabra recoils at the fruits in open panic. He shouts, "Shit!!! Don't get them near me!!!" and even yells, "Me, too!!" when the others tease him. Usopp, still disguised as Sogeking, asks, "Jyabura? What're you getting so excited about," while Jabra snaps, "Idiots!! Don't you know?! I'm an 'ability user'! Because of this, there's a devil residing in my body!! Therefore, if I get close to that fruit, a devil will come out and start fighting with my devil, and then my body will explode!!!" The others coolly correct him. Lucci dismisses it as "Such nonsense," explaining that intelligence operatives should not be fooled by rumors. Blueno clarifies that scientists have already proven the transfer theory: if someone eats two fruits, "their body would explode without a trace, and they would die." Jabra mutters, "What!? Really???"

Spandam explains that his reach is what put the two Devil Fruits in CP9's hands. When someone asks, "But... chief!!! You were able to get your hands on 2 devil fruits!!! Where'd you get them...?!" he grins, "Fufufu... become stronger, CP9!!! I have connections... Eat it for the future...!!!" He admits, "However, I will say one thing. As to what kind of devils reside in those fruit... even I am not aware of it...!" In Rob Lucci's room at the Tower of Justice, CP9 discusses the gamble. They can know the fruit's name only by the power it gives, and Kaku notes, "It wasn't in my picture encyclopedia either." Another says, "It's hard to think that this fruit comes from this world... I feel some strange power from it, like a gravitational force." The risk is total: "What kind of power we might get is completely up to luck."

Lucci sits calmly with alcohol in hand and reduces the Devil Fruit gamble to discipline. "There are plenty of people who sail their entire life looking for a single Devil's Fruit," he says. "The chances of you weakening from it are very low. Besides, being a hammer isn't that much of an inconvenience. Regardless of the type of power, it all depends on how you use it." He tells Kaku and Kalifa, "Eat it and see. It'll be fun." Below him, the others bicker. Kaku says, "Kalifa! Don't do it! Nothing good will come of it!!" while Kalifa answers, "It tastes like shit, you know! Like shit!" Fukurou laughs that Jabra does not want Kaku powered up, and Jabra yells back that envy and jealousy hurt a man's good name. Lucci's message is colder than their jokes: power is worth the risk if they can master it.

Kaku and Kalifa commit. Kaku bites into his fruit with "Baku!!" and admits, "Hm... It would be fun." Kalifa tastes hers and says, "...If it's a winner, it'll gladly welcome it." Both bites are followed by the same disgusted reaction: "!!!" Then Jabra howls, "Uoooo!!! They ate them! Damn it--!!!" Kaku and Kalifa both look shaken by the taste; Kalifa mutters "Ugh" while Kaku falls silent. The page is funny on the surface, but it marks a serious shift. Two CP9 agents have just accepted unknown Devil Fruit powers, and even before the abilities appear, the room understands that their future fights may become far stranger.

From outside the Tower of Justice, the new users complain immediately. Someone asks, "Did anything happen?" and Jabra demands, "Yoyoi!! Anything weird happen to your body!?" Kalifa answers, "Haa... haa... I don't think anything changed..." Lucci explains that the change comes later: "You'll realize the change in due time... This is the birth of more 'ability users.' So get a hang of your powers at least...!" The thought then lands on the missing Blueno. Lucci says, "Depending on the chief's orders, you might be in a battle soon." Kalifa remembers, "Blueno... Couldn't wait around, so he went ahead to the festival..."

On the courthouse rooftop, Luffy and Blueno face each other amid rubble. The map labels the fight: "Courthouse Rooftop - Luffy vs Blueno." Blueno admits, "I underestimated you," because he can no longer keep up with the speed of Luffy's attacks. Luffy fires back, "Don't underestimate me!!!" Blueno decides, "I will be more careful. Direct hits won't work on a rubber man..." and uses a Six Powers technique, "Geppou," launching himself through the air. Luffy watches as Blueno steps through the sky and changes the angle of the fight. The rooftop duel is no longer simple strength against defense; Blueno is forced to use mobility and technique to avoid the improved force Luffy is bringing.

Luffy winds up another strike with "Gomu Gomu..." but Blueno cuts through the air first: "Rankyaku!!!" The note explains that Rankyaku means Hurricane Leg, and the slicing kick tears across the rooftop. Luffy dodges with a sharp "Uo!!" as the attack gouges the stone, then Blueno spins into a follow-up defense. The page names it "Tekkai Rin," with the note that Tekkai Rin means Iron Mass Wheel. Blueno opens a door in the ground beneath Luffy. Luffy shouts, "Eh? Just now, a door appeared on the ground...!!" then drops with "Uwaa!!!" and "Gacha! Gacha!" as the floor closes around him. Trapped, he yells, "Damn, I'm stuck...!!! What, what!? Where'd those little doors come from?" Blueno reveals the answer by opening doors in the air and stone. Luffy demands, "You!! What!! What'd you do?! Is it a Devil Fruit!?" Blueno replies, "It's a 'Doa Doa Fruit.' I'm a door man. I can change anything that separates into a door." He demonstrates a "revolving door" on Luffy's head, making him spin with "Oaaaaa" and leaving him dizzy, grinning, and shouting through the disorientation. The page defines Blueno's true threat: anywhere with a boundary can become an entrance, exit, or trap.

The revolving door leaves Luffy's head spinning. He screams, "Eeh!? Eh!? What's happening!? My eyes are spinning!!!" and then begs the world to slow down: "Which way's the front!? Stop!! The crew finally has visual confirmation that Luffy is already battling CP9 above them, and the rooftop duel is directly connected to the group's route toward Robin.

Sanji notices the same thing and calls out, "Hey!! Cook!" Another voice says, "Yeah, I saw it." Sanji realizes, "Luffy's already... battling with the CP9...!!" Chopper reacts, "Eh?" while Nami cries, "Seriously!? Damn it, he's already started!!" But the situation on the ground is just as desperate. The group is completely surrounded, and because of someone's steel ball, Gomorrah cannot move anymore. One rider asks, "But how do we get through?" as the enormous King Bull lies trapped amid thousands of enemies. The page holds the two fronts at once: Luffy is already fighting above, but the others cannot reach him unless they break through the crowd choking the streets below.

Government soldiers swarm the trapped King Bull and shout, "Shoot!!! Shoot all the pirates off of that monster!!!" Zoro sees the only opening and says, "There's only one way left!!" The Franky Family rallies with "Let's go, you guys!!!" and "Yeah!!" while Chopper is pulled along in panic, yelling, "Wait!!!" and "Chopper!?" Gomorrah suddenly communicates something to the group, and someone translates it: "That's what Gomorrah said!!!" The message is simple and vital: "Hold on tightly!!!" Others shout, "Don't get off!!!" as the bull prepares to move despite the trap. The rescue party stops looking for a clean path and decides to become the path.

Gomorrah rises again, staggering but alive. The riders shout, "Gomorrah!?" and "You can still...!!" while the bull groans "Baruroro..." Government soldiers panic: "The monster's still alive!!! Shoot the monster!!! Shoot it dead with trench mortar!!!" The Franky Family and Straw Hats fight back to protect him. "Fight back!! Help Gomorrah!!!" someone cries as bullets and explosions surround them. One of the enemy vehicles rolls closer, and the field becomes a storm of shouts, smoke, and gunfire. Gomorrah is wounded, exhausted, and now the entire Government force wants him dead, but his body still moves because the people on his back have nowhere else to go.

Gomorrah charges again with a massive "Barurururuaaaaa!!!" and smashes through enemies despite the bombardment. The riders cry "!!!?" and "U-waaa" as his body lurches out of control. The truth becomes horrifying: "He can't see!!! They got his retinas, so he's lost his eyesight!!!" Someone shouts, "What's wrong!? Are you really at your limit?" while another pleads, "Uwaaa!! Hey, Gomorrah!!! Why are you running into walls!!!" Gomorrah bellows "Buorahyurua!!!" and keeps moving blind. The group realizes, "You can't see!!?" Yet he still hears them and still charges. The page turns a rescue mount into a tragic guide: Gomorrah is no longer seeing the route, but he is still trying to carry them.

Everyone screams for Gomorrah to stop. "You gotta stop!! Gomorrah!!" someone yells, and another warns, "It's running out of control!!!" Even as guards yell, "Hold your surrounding position!!" and "Kill it!! Stop that monster!!" Gomorrah pushes on. Sanji remembers the earlier joke from inside the Sea King: "I can't eat anymore, I'm full...!" and someone asks, "It was in the stomach?" while the Franky Family says, "Let's take it home as emergency rations." The absurd memory sits beside a real sacrifice: Gomorrah is fulfilling Sodom's share with a broken body.

Gomorrah breaks through the siege at D-block. The announcement rings out, "Calling all personnel!! The King Bull that the pirates are riding have broken through the siege at D-block!!!" The riders and enemies alike scream "Oo-waaaa!!!" as the blind bull tears forward. At last the courthouse front plaza comes into view. The crew shouts, "We're here!!! We're at the courthouse, Gomorrah!!!" and "You did it--" while soldiers repeat, "They've made it to the courthouse front plaza!!!" Gomorrah collapses in triumph, and the group cries, "We did it!!" In the aftermath, Franky arrives with his own anger: "Big Bro!! Sodom and Gomorrah were beaten up by the pirates!!!" and he roars, "You got guts messing with my henchmen!!!" Gomorrah, battered but alive, makes cheerful sounds as someone says, "Hey, don't dance when you're hurt!!" Sanji and Zoro debate whether there is a dead end ahead, with Sanji saying, "A dead end? Do you see one?" and Zoro answering, "Nah, I don't see one anywhere." As Gomorrah almost crashes, the group screams, "Gomorrah!! Stop!! Don't run randomly!!" and "Stop--!!!"
