Adventure in the Country with No Name

The Straw Hats ride a large ornate sled pulled across the snow. Sanji sits at the front sipping from a bottle while Luffy stands and points excitedly ahead. Nami sits relaxed in the back of the sled, smiling. Behind them looms a giant, menacing snow-covered animal skull with curved horns and dripping icicles, its jaws open wide. Snow falls steadily over the mountainous landscape.

Color version of the sled scene. Luffy stands pointing forward with mouth open, Sanji drinks from a bottle while seated, and Nami smiles from the rear of the sled. The massive horned snow beast skull looms directly behind them, icicles hanging from its jaws. Snow continues to fall across the frozen mountain range.

A lone framed panel shows a man in a heavy black coat with fur trim and goggles pushed up on his head. He stands with arms crossed, head tilted upward, mouth open as if reacting to something above him.

Sanji finishes repairs on the deck and declares, "ALL FIXED UP NOW!" A voice answers, "GOOD," as he stretches his leg. He reflects, "I WAS GETTING TIRED OF ONLY LIFTING HEAVIER AND HEAVIER WEIGHTS. AND SINCE JUST SITTING HERE TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE SHIP IS BORING... NOW I CAN START TRAINING FOR REAL." Nearby, Usopp lies on the snowy deck in winter gear, quacking, "QUACK..." with sweat drops and sound effects "ぱん ぱん" as he reacts in surprise. Zoro sits cross-legged in deep meditation amid swirling snow and icy water, hands clasped, thinking, "WHILE SWIMMING IN THE COLD WATER... I MIGHT AS WELL DO SOME MEDITATING," with a loud "CLAP!" sound effect nearby and Usopp's shocked face visible in the corner.

The crew arrives at a snowy mountain town filled with conical-roofed stone buildings and falling snow. A large sign reads, "THE SNOWING TOWN, 'BIG HORN.'" A massive impact sound "どーん" echoes as someone announces, "THIS IS... OUR TOWN." In the lower panel the Straw Hats stand together in heavy winter coats: Nami exclaims, "NAMI, IT'S A TOWN! WE'RE FINALLY AT A TOWN FULL OF PEOPLE!" Usopp adds, "A REAL SNOW TOWN FOR SURE!" while Luffy stares wide-eyed and a local warns, "THEY GOT SOME WEIRD ANIMALS WALKING AROUND." Townspeople in the background watch curiously as a large horned animal carries a rider through the street.

Vivi questions the situation while Dalton, the tall armored man with a large weapon, replies, "...THIS COUNTRY DOESN'T HAVE ANY PROFESSIONAL SOLDIERS, DOES ITI THEY SHOULD POSE NO HARM. YOU SURE YOU CAN HANDLE ALL OF 'EM YOURSELF, DALTONI THEY ARE PIRATES. OR AT LEAST, THAT'S WHAT MY RELIABLE GUT INSTINCT TELLS ME..." He continues, "THOSE THAT AREN'T ON GUARD-DUTY CAN NOW RETURN TO THEIR NORMAL JOBS. GOOD WORK, EVERYONE. FOR THE TIME BEING, COME TO MY HOUSE." In the next scene Dalton reassures a woman, "REST ASSURED, EVERYTHING IS UNDER CONTROL, MADAM." Luffy and Usopp react in shock as someone shouts, "IS EVERYTHING ALRIGHTI DALTON, I HEARD THERE WERE PIRATES. AH! LOOK, A HIKING BEAR!" A stern man sweats and mutters, "I BEAR TOO MANY SINS FOR SUCH A POSITION. T-THAT'S PREPOSTEROUS!" while another figure says, "EVERYONE SAYS THEY'LL BE VOTING FOR YOU. DALTON! I'LL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO THE ELECTIONS IN TWO DAYS."

Dalton stands tall in heavy armor inside a wooden building and says, "I'LL GO HEAT UP THE ROOM RIGHT NOW... YOU CAN USE THE BED OVER THERE. PLEASE FORGIVE OUR HOSTILE WELCOME. MY NAME IS DALTON AND IT IS MY JOB TO GUARD THIS ISLAND. MY APOLOGIES FOR THE BELATED INTRODUCTION..." Vivi, seated on the bed, reacts with surprise, "HMI" Dalton continues, "I'D LIKE TO ASK YOU ONE THING..." A close-up shows Dalton's intense face as he thinks, "THAT I'VE SEEN YOU BEFORE SOMEWHERE... I GET THE FEELING." Vivi suddenly startles with large "ドキッ!!" sound effects and blurts, "Y-YOU MUST BE IMAGINING THINGS. I'M SURE WE'VE NEVER MET BEFORE... MORE IMPORTANTLY, COULD YOU PLEASE TELL US MORE ABOUT THIS WITCH...I"

Inside a warm room, a brick fireplace crackles while medical tools rest on the mantel. Nami lies in bed, face flushed and drenched in sweat, her fever climbing. Sanji stares at the thermometer in shock. "HER FEVER'S BEEN RISING STEADILY SINCE 3 DAYS AGO..." "A FEVER OF... 42 DEGREES!I" Dalton, the tall man in a fur-collared coat, stands beside the bed with Sanji and a tiger-masked figure. "IT DOESN'T MATTER IF THIS DOCTOR'S A WITCH OR WHATEVER AS LONG AS SHE CAN CURE NAMI! SO JUST WHERE THE HELL IS SHE!I" Dalton replies gravely, "YES, BUT I'M AFRAID WE DON'T KNOW WHAT THE CAUSE OF HER DISEASE IS, NOR HOW TO TREAT IT..." He adds, "IF IT RISES ANY HIGHER, SHE'LL LOSE HER LIFE..." Nami remains unconscious beneath the blankets, her condition critical.

Dalton points toward the window. "YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE MOUNTAINS... FROM THE WINDOW..." Sanji peers out and spots a round, snow-covered figure with a face. "YEAH, YOU MEAN THOSE EXTREMELY TALL-" Outside, Luffy and Usopp are buried in snow, wildly building giant snowmen. Luffy yells, "THAT'S IT! I'M KICKING BOTH YOUR ASSES! AND MY SNOW-ZILLA!" Usopp cheers beside his creation, "LOOK AT MY MR. HYPER-SNOWMAN!" Snow flies everywhere as the two Straw Hats play in the blizzard.

From the window, Dalton explains the snowy landscape. "THOSE MOUNTAINS ARE CALLED THE DRUM ROCKIES." A massive castle sits atop the tallest peak. "PERHAPS YOU CAN SEE A CASTLE AT THE TOP OF THE TALLEST MOUNTAIN IN THE MIDDLEI" Inside, Nami stands at the counter while Sanji, Luffy, and Usopp listen. Dalton continues, "PRESENTLY... IT'S A CASTLE WITH NO KING..." Luffy and Usopp react with surprise. "YEAH, I CAN SEE IT ALRIGHT..." "AHH, NICE AND WARM... CASTLEI" Dalton finishes, "DR. KUREHA, THE LONE DOCTOR IN THIS ENTIRE COUNTRY WHOM THE PEOPLE CALL A WITCH, LIVES IN THAT VERY CASTLE SITUATED ON THE MOUNTAINTOP." Sanji asks, "SO WHAT ABOUT THAT CASTLE...I" Luffy shouts, "WHAT!I"

Sanji reacts in disbelief. "WHAT!I AND SHE CALLS HERSELF A DOCTOR!I WHAT'S WITH THIS WOMAN!I" Dalton answers, "AS MUCH AS I'D LIKE TO, THERE IS NO WAY TO CONTACT HER." He adds, "OF ALL THE PLACES SHE COULD BE, SHE JUST HAS TO BE THERE... WELL, WE BETTER GO CALL HER RIGHT AWAY THEN! THIS IS AN EMERGENCY." The group discusses Dr. Kureha's reputation. "140!I AND SHE'S STILL ALIVE!I" "HER SKILLS AS A DOCTOR ARE UNDENIABLE, BUT SHE'S A BIT OF A KOOK... AND ALMOST 140 YEARS OLD AT THAT, TOO." Luffy, Usopp, and Nami sit together as more details emerge: "HOW DOES THIS OLD GRANNY EVEN GET DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAINS...I" "SHE'S BASICALLY A PIRATE!" "THAT IS ONE MEAN OLD HAG." Dalton concludes, "SHE TAKES ANYTHING SHE WANTS FROM THEIR HOMES AS PAYMENT. FINDS PATIENTS TO TREAT, AND AFTERWARDS... WELL, SHE COMES DOWN FROM THE MOUNTAIN WHENEVER SHE FEELS LIKE IT."

A massive full moon illuminates the snowy night as a witch cackles wildly from her sleigh pulled by reindeer: "HEEEEE HEE HEE HEE HEE!" Narration explains, "ACCORDING TO CERTAIN EYEWITNESSES, SHE SUPPOSEDLY RIDES DOWN ON A SLEIGH ON MOONLIT NIGHTS..." A stern man with a fur collar states, "THAT IS WHY THE PEOPLE CALL HER A WITCH..." In a wooden interior, panicked villagers react: one screams "I JUST KNEW THERE HAD TO BE WITCHES AND YETIS LURKING AMONG THE SNOWY MOUNTAIN PEAKS!" while another tumbles backward yelling "GAHHH! I KNEW IT! I WARNED YOU GUYS! I TOLD YOU GUYS ABOUT THE SNOW MONSTERS!" A terrified figure begs, "AHHHHH! PLEASE, GOD! DON'T LET THEM FIND ME!" Another voice adds, "OTHERS HAVE REPORTEDLY SEEN A MOST BIZARRE CREATURE TRAVELLING ALONG WITH HER..." In the next scene the tall man with the fur collar declares, "HOW THE HELL IS IT POSSIBLE FOR THERE TO BE ONLY ONE DOCTOR IN AN ENTIRE COUNTRY!I" A woman asks, "WHAT IN THE WORLD..." He continues, "IN ANY CASE, I'M AFRAID THE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS WAIT UNTIL SHE COMES DOWN..." and concludes, "YES, ALTHOUGH SHE'S THIS COUNTRY'S ONLY DOCTOR, SHE'S ALSO SOMEONE WHO I'D PREFER TO HAVE LITTLE TO DO WITH..."

Luffy suddenly slaps Nami awake on the bed, shouting "AND JUST WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING!I" while calling "NAMI! HEY, NAMI!" with loud "SLAP! SLAP!" sounds and "Hー!!" effects. Nami's eyes flutter open as she sweats and murmurs "AH, YOU'RE UP!" Luffy leans in close with a determined expression and says, "LISTEN, WE CAN'T GET A DOCTOR UNLESS WE GO UP THE MOUNTAIN, SO WE'LL BE HIKING UP." Nami looks weary with sweat drops while Luffy continues explaining the plan.

Luffy insists they must climb despite the danger, declaring "I CAN CLIMB IT." The others protest: "YES BUT IT'S IMPOSSIBLE AS IT IS RIGHT NOW! JUST LOOK HOW TALL THAT MOUNTAIN IS!" "WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL. WE GOTTA GET HER TO A DOCTOR AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, DON'T WEI" "EVEN SO, YOU'RE STILL GOING TO EXACERBATE HER CONDITION!" "IT'S FINE, I'LL BE CARRYING HER." "ARE YOU CRAZY!I JUST WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO PUT NAMI THROUGH!I" Nami lies sweating heavily and warns, "AND YOU'RE NOT EVEN DEALING WITH A NORMAL, HEALTHY PERSON HERE! SHE HAS A TEMPERATURE 6 DEGREES ABOVE NORMAL! DO YOU UNDERSTAND HOW SERIOUS HER SITUATION IS!I" A voice explains, "A NORMAL PERSON WOULD DIE INSTANTLY IF THEY FELL FROM A MOUNTAIN OF THAT HEIGHT!" Nami continues, "WELL... EVEN IF SHE FALLS, THERE'S ONLY NICE AND COMFY SNOW BELOW..." and finishes with a gentle smile, "MAYBE YOU CAN, BUT IT'S STILL TOO MUCH OF A BURDEN ON NAMI!...I'LL LEAVE IT TO YOU THEN, LUFFY." In the background Sanji and others react with concern as Luffy and Nami prepare.

Luffy grins widely and pumps his fist, shouting "JUST LEAVE IT TO ME!" with a huge "ぱしゅっ!!" impact effect. "GREAT!" he adds. Outside in the snowy village with conical-roofed buildings, Luffy carries Nami on his back while the others react. A voice calls, "MEAT...I" Sanji yells, "MISTER, GIMME SOME MEAT!" and "DO YOU UNDERSTAND JUST HOW SICK YOU ARE, NAMI!I" Nami replies weakly, "NAMI, ARE YOU REALLY FINE WITH THIS!I IT MAY TAKE OVER SEVERAL HOURS TO CLIMB UP." Usopp exclaims, "OH LORD, OUR NAVIGATOR'S JUST AS CRAZY AS OUR CAPTAIN!" Luffy reacts in shock, "WHAT!I EVEN ONCE!I" as someone warns, "LETTING NAMI FALL EVEN ONCE COULD MEAN THE END FOR HER! GOT IT!I" Zoro states firmly, "I'LL BE COMING ALONG TOO!" and Usopp agrees, "ALRIGHT," while adjusting his goggles.

In the snowy village, Nami is tightly bound to Sanji's back with rope as the group prepares to move. "ME TOO!" Luffy shouts from the side. Sanji adjusts the bindings, saying, "HOLD ON... STAND STILL! I HAVE TO TIE HER TIGHTLY AROUND YOU... TIGHTEN!" A voice replies, "ALRIGHT, HANG ON TIGHT, NAMI!" Another figure adds, "THAT SHOULD DO. I'LL STAY BEHIND HERE. I'D ONLY DRAG YOU DOWN IF I CAME ALONG." The large man in the fur-collared coat warns them sternly: "THE ROUTE TO THE TOP FROM HERE IS FULL OF LAPING...! THEY'RE EXTREMELY VIOLENT AND CARNIVOROUS RABBITS... IF YOU COME ACROSS A PACK OF THEM, THERE'LL BE NO ESCAPING ALIVE! IF YOU'RE SERIOUS ABOUT THIS, I WON'T STOP YOU BUT YOU SHOULD AT LEAST CLIMB UP FROM THE OTHER SIDE..." Luffy grins confidently while Sanji smokes, replying, "RABBITSI BUT WE'RE IN A HURRY... I'LL BE FINE. I'LL KICK ANY THAT GET IN OUR WAY." Luffy agrees, "YEAH. RIGHTI"

Luffy and Sanji argue heatedly in the snow. Sanji snaps, "DON'T SAY THAT, YOU IDIOT!" Luffy yells back, "BEFORE NAMI DIES! THEN LET'S GO, SANJI!" Large impact sound effects "だ だ" erupt as they react. In the next scene, the group stands on a path lined with snow-covered trees and buildings. Dalton looks ahead and says, "THE PROBLEM IS WHETHER OR NOT NAMI CAN HOLD OUT LONG ENOUGH... WELL, THERE'S NO NEED TO WORRY ABOUT THOSE 2 BUT... I WONDER IF THEY'LL BE FINE..." A bundled figure replies, "I JUST HOPE THEY CAN ALL GET TO THE TOP SAFE AND SOUND..." The scene shifts to villagers near the buildings, with sound effects "ヒュオ..." and "ヒュ..." indicating cold wind as one person asks, "WHAT'S WRONGI YOU SHOULD COME INSIDE ALREADY, IT'S QUITE COLD OUTSIDE..."

Nami stands outside the stone building, hands in mittens, and declares, "IT'S FINE... I... I WANT TO STAY OUTSIDE FOR NOW...!" The large man with the pipe, coughing "がっ がっ", responds, "ME TOO!" In smaller panels, the group discusses joining: "WHY DON'T I JOIN YOU THEN... I SEE..." Dalton's close-up shows a serious expression. He continues, "THE DOCTORS, I MEAN. THERE'S A REASON WHY ALL OF THEM SAVE FOR ONE DISAPPEARED... HMI IT USED NOT TO BE LIKE THIS LONG AGO..."

Outside the building, Nami and Dalton stand over the kneeling large man. Dalton states, "UTTERLY DESTROYED AT THE HANDS OF PIRATES... ONLY A FEW MONTHS AGO, THIS WAS..." The kneeling man adds, "YES... EVERYONE IS STILL UNEASY AT MERELY HEARING THE WORD, 'PIRATE'... SO THAT'S WHY WE WERE SO HOSTILE TO US..." Dalton continues, "THE ENTIRE COUNTRY!I" Nami reacts with shock, "WHA-" The kneeling man explains further: "O-ONLY FIVE PIRATES!I THAT'S CRAZY! WITH OVERWHELMING STRENGTH, THEY DESTROYED OUR ENTIRE COUNTRY IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE. THEIR CAPTAIN CALLED HIMSELF, 'BLACKBEARD'... IT WAS A PIRATE CREW OF ONLY 5 PEOPLE..." Nami gasps, "BLACKBEARD...I"

In the snowy ruins of the village, the scarred man with the fur collar speaks firmly to the group. "...THE NAME OF THIS COUNTRY WAS FORMERLY 'DRUM KINGDOM' AND THE RULER OF THIS KINGDOM WAS A MAN NAMED 'Wapol'." He continues, "HE WAS TRULY A MOST DESPICABLE KING...!" "THAT'S BECAUSE UP UNTIL THAT POINT, THE KING AND HIS TYRANNICAL RULE BROUGHT MUCH SUFFERING TO THE PEOPLE." Villagers react in shock. "YEAH, THAT'S RIDICULOUS! HOW COULD THAT BE!I" one shouts. Another cries, "WHAT!I THERE'S NO WAY! IT'D BE A GOOD COUNTRY FOR ONE'S COUNTRY TO BE DESTROYED!" A third adds, "BE THAT AS IT MAY... THERE ARE SOME WHO SAY IT WAS A GOOD THING THAT OUR COUNTRY WAS DESTROYED..." In the bottom panel, Usopp and a girl stare in sudden recognition as a massive sound effect erupts. "WAPOL!I" Usopp yells. The girl gasps, "AH! THAT MAN...! NOW I REMEMBER!"
