Egghead - The Island of the Future

A colossal mechanical shark erupts from the sea beneath the Thousand Sunny, jaws wide. The crew reacts in shock. Someone yells "HUUHI!" as the monster surfaces. On the right side, a small figure bursts from the water near a giant boot; a voice cries "WHO'S THATI! SHE JUST POPPED OUTTA THE WATER!!" and "HURTLING THROUGH THE AIR!!" Below, the shark's eye glows while the crew panics. "KOFF!! PANT... PANT... GASP!!" "KOFF... I'M SAVED! WHO'S THEREI" "IT'S STILL BELOW US!!" "WAIT... WHERE DID THAT MONSTER GOI!" From the deck: "THERE'S SOMETHING SCARY BENEATH US!! LET'S SCRAM BEFORE IT SURFACES!!" "I THINK THAT RUNT'S TRYIN' TO SAY SOMETHIN'!!" "LOOK DOWN!!" "SHE SAID LOOK DOWN...!!" "JUST HOW FAR IS LUFFY GONNA KEEP FLYINGI" "GOOD, SHE SEEMS SAFE!! BUT..."

The giant metal shark lunges upward, jaws snapping shut on the Sunny's hull with a massive "SNAP!!" and "キキキキ!!!" as water explodes. "AHHH!!" screams a crew member. The ship tilts violently. "IT'S GOING TO BE A ROUGH LANDING!! HOLD ON TIGHT!!" A close-up shows Franky shouting "WHAT THE HELL IS THIS THINGI! A SHARKI! NO, IT'S TOO BIG... AND IT'S MADE OF METAL!" The crew scrambles: "FRANKY, TAKE THE HELM!! STEER THE SHIP OVER TO US!!" "YOU GOT IT!!" "...FELL IN THE SEA!! NOT GOOD! LUFFY AND THE OTHERS..." "AGH!"

The Sunny transforms mid-air. Mechanical parts deploy with "CLANK...", "SHING!", "CLICK!!" as the keel attachment and screw propeller activate. The ship rockets forward in a burst of smoke and speed lines. "KEEL ATTACHMENT!" "SCREW PROPELLER!!" A small figure clings to the shark's fin as it is hurled away. The shark itself sparks and beeps "BEEP... BEEP..." while its jaws open. Explosions rock the scene with "オオオオオーン!!!" and "ドドドドン!!!" as the vessel escapes the monster's reach. "RABBIT..." "AHH!!" "!I"

A massive explosion rocks the vessel as black smoke and debris erupt across the deck. A small horned figure in armor shouts in alarm, "WHAT WAS THATI!" while screams fill the air: "KYAAH!!" "AAGH!!" The blast sends the ship lurching violently. "BOOM!!" echoes amid the chaos. Below, crew members tumble as the deck tilts sharply. "WE'RE CAPSIZING!!" one yells while another cries "OH CRAP!!" A round mechanical figure with a sun-like face appears in a side panel. In the lower section, massive waves crash over the hull as two voices desperately call out: "NAMI-SAAAN!! ROBIN-CHAAAN!!" followed by "AGH!!" Water sprays everywhere amid the capsizing turmoil.

Luffy leaps through the air amid swirling currents and bubbles, shouting "LUFFY!! CHOPPER!! DON'T WORRY, I'M HERE!!" A massive shark-like vessel surges upward with intense motion lines. Inside, a large figure with swirling eyes commands, "HANG ON, YOU THREE! WE'RE HEADING UP!" while noting "THAT NOISE... IT SOUNDED LIKE AN EXPLOSION!!" The shark craft barrels forward through turbulent water. A close-up reveals its toothy maw and glowing eye as someone mutters "HMI" Below, the vessel fights a powerful current; a voice exclaims "OH MY!! WHAT A TREMENDOUS CURRENT!!" Another adds, "STEERING A SHIP IN THIS IS NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE!!" as the craft is tossed violently.

The shark vessel's mechanical arm extends as a cannon fires with a loud "BANG!!" The operator yells "EVERYONE HOLD YOUR BREATH!! WE'RE GOING TO DIVE!!" while another reacts "A CANNONI!" The blast sends the craft plunging downward amid "KA-POW!!" and massive impact effects. Crew members hold their breath in sequence: "HUUUFF" "HUUUFF" "HUUUFF" "KOFF!" with one declaring "HERE WE GO!!" The vessel crashes through debris and water with "BOOM!!" and "SWISH!!" effects. A final panel shows the shark craft struggling as a voice states "THE WAVES ARE TOO STRONG!! WE CAN'T GET BACK UP!!" amid bubbles and turbulence.

At G-14 Naval Base near a nearby island, Navy HQ Captain Tashigi smiles while holding medicine, saying "IT'S MEDICINE TIME!! BE GOOD BOYS AND GIRLS NOW!!" The base's distinctive domed structures are shown. In a lively scene with children and adults, a curly-haired girl exclaims "ABSOLUTELY!! I HARDLY RECOGNIZE YOU, MOCHA!!" Others react: "WE'VE ALL SHRUNK QUITE A LOT, HAVEN'T WEI" "BLERGH! IT'S YUCKY!!" "'CAUSE TASHIGI-SAN SAID SO!!" "I'M ONLY DRINKING THIS..." A boy calls "TASHIGI!! HAVE YOU GOT A SECI" Tashigi later appears serious, stating "HIS BEST FRIEND'S LIFE IS ON THE LINE, YOU KNOW I CAN'T. AND I'M WORRIED ABOUT CAPTAIN KOBY TOO, HE'S OUR JUNIOR AS A MARINE AFTER ALL..." G-14 Commander Vice Admiral Doll glares and replies "IT'S THAT PEST, HELMEPPO, CAN'T YOU DO SOMETHING ABOUT HIMI"

Navy HQ Commander (SWORD) Hibari shouts desperately, "I SECOND THIS, Y'HEARI! I OWE KOBY-SENPAI!!!" Beside her, Navy HQ Lt. Cmdr. (SWORD) Helmeppo pleads, "PLEASE, YOU HAVE TO LISTEN. I'M BEGGING YOU!! WE'RE ALL ON THE SAME SIDE, RIGHTI!" In the next panel, Navy HQ Rear Admiral (SWORD) Prince Grus sits in a chair while crew members argue around him. One yells, "WE'LL BE SWARMED BY PIRATES IF WE STICK OUR NOSES INTO THAT BEEHIVE!" Another adds, "PIRATE ISLANDI THAT'S EMPEROR BLACKBEARD'S HOME TURF!!" Grus is addressed directly: "PLEASE, PRINCE, WE NEED YOU!! YOU HAFTA COME WITH US TO PIRATE ISLAND, PRINCE!!" A crewman explains, "THAT'S WHY IT'S CALLED HACHINOSU!" In the bottom panels, a frantic Marine with wild hair cries, "AT THE MOMENT, WE CAN'T GET A HOLD OF DRAKE EITHER!! WE'RE IN NO POSITION TO ACT RIGHT NOW!! IS THAT CLEARI!" Helmeppo snaps, "ARE YOU CRAZYI! BOTH OF YOU CALM DOWN!!" while another Marine worries, "EGGHEAD'S SO CLOSE TO US... WHY CAN'T WE DEPLOY A SERAPHIMI"

On a rocky shore, a tall sign reads "LUFFY'S GROUP". A woman with long hair shouts, "WE WERE BOTH ON SABAODY TWO YEARS AGO!!" Luffy replies in surprise, "OH!! YOU'RE PART OF IT TOOI!" She continues, "I'M PART OF THE WORST GENERATION, JUST LIKE YOU!! HOW CAN YOU NOT KNOW WHO I AMI!" The woman, now revealed as Bonney, stands dripping wet and declares, "DON'T FORGET, WE'RE ENEMIES!! AND THE NAME'S BONNEY!!" Luffy, half-submerged and shivering, yells, "AHH!! IT'S SO COLD!! STILL... THANKS FOR SAVING MY BACON BACK THERE. DON'T SWEAT IT, BOGEY!!" A small creature asks, "ARE YOU SERIOUSLY AN EMPERORI" In the lower panels, Bonney asks Luffy, "ANYWAY, AREN'T YOU WORRIED ABOUT THE REST OF YOUR CREWI WHAT'S THAT SUPPOSED TO MEAN...I" Luffy responds, "OH, THAT'S JUST HOW I LOOK WHEN I'M TOTALLY FREE!!" She notes, "THEY MADE QUITE A STIR ABOUT IT IN THE PAPERS, YOU KNOWI I THOUGHT YOUR HAIR WAS WHITE NOW... WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH YOUR WANTED POSTER ANYWAYI" Luffy flexes and declares, "THEY'LL FIGURE IT OUT!! SHISHISHI!!" while a fish-man-like figure reacts nearby.

Bonney stands with arms crossed, saying, "THAT METAL MONSTER BACK THERE GOBBLED UP MY SHIP. THAT REMINDS ME, I'M STARVING!" Luffy, riding a shark-like creature, replies, "I CAME ALONE. SINCE WE'RE ON THE SUBJECT, WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR SHIP AND CREWI" The group reaches the shore of a futuristic island. A small robot-like figure asks, "THIS IS A GOVERNMENT ISLAND!! DO I HAVE TO SPELL EVERYTHING OUTI!" Bonney warns Luffy, "YOU BONEHEADS DON'T HAVE A CLUE, DO YOUI YOU'RE NOT GONNA FIND ANY FOOD JOINTS HERE!!" Luffy shouts excitedly, "OOH, DO YOU HAVE ANY MONEY ON YOU, LUFFYI! LET'S GO FIND A RESTAURANT!! I'M HUNGRY TOO!!" The massive island looms ahead with dramatic impact lines as narration and characters react: "DR. VEGAPUNK'S RESEARCH LAB IS BASED HERE!" Luffy exclaims, "VEGAPUNKI! I KNOW THAT NAME!! VEGAPUNK'S THE REASON I'M HERE. WE'VE GOT BUSINESS." The island is labeled as "THE ISLAND THAT'S SAID TO BE 500 YEARS IN THE FUTURE" and the group realizes, "WE'RE ON EGGHEAD!!"

A massive robot labeled "12 VEGA FORCE" bursts from the sea with huge impact effects and sound effects "どゴォォォ" and "ビし!!" The group stares in shock. Luffy's crew reacts with wide eyes and open mouths: "GIANT ROBOT!!" One Marine-like figure yells, "SOMEBODY'S COMING OUT!!" Inside the robot's cockpit, a small figure appears as text notes "*TN: OLD-TIMER SPEECH". A skull-faced figure comments, "PERHAPS OVERRIDING PRIMAL DESIRES IS SIMPLY IMPOSSIBLE. IT'S ANOTHER FAILURE. HMM, I WONDER WHY THIS WON'T DO AT ALL..." Bonney watches with a serious expression, clenching her fist. The robot towers over the water as debris and waves splash around it.

A small mecha-shark circles in the water as a goggled girl with pigtails speaks: "...TO SCOUT, REPORT, AND FIRE. BUT IT KEEPS TRYING TO EAT SHIPS." An angry bearded man shouts, "I ORDERED THE MECHA-SHARK..." while a woman with goggles replies, "THANKS FOR SAVING US..." The goggled girl continues, "THERE WON'T BE ANYTHING LEFT TO SALVAGE. I MUST HAVE BUNGLED THE PROGRAMMING," and adds, "HOW UTTERLY VEXING." In a high-tech interior, a young man in a black jacket marked "PUNK 02" stands confidently and declares, "I WORK FOR THE GOVERNMENT! DESPITE MY MEDIOCRITY. THEY LIKE TO CALL ME THEIR SCIENTIFIC GENIUS." A voice responds, "FORGIVE ME, BUT DID YOU JUST SAY I SAVED YOUI OH, YOU NAIVE PIRATES!" The bottom panel reveals a close-up of a smiling girl with headphones reacting with shock: "WHATI! HOW UNEXPECTED! DR. VEGAPUNK!!" She smiles brightly and says, "YOU CAN CALL ME..."
