Ohara's Demons

A small framed panel floats on an otherwise empty white page. Inside, a young girl with short black hair, wearing a black dress, runs forward with a determined yet distressed expression. Her right fist is clenched and raised, left arm extended, as motion lines and sweat drops emphasize her urgent movement.

The massive Tree of Knowledge dominates the landscape under a cloudy sky. Speech bubbles ring out: YOUR MOM MIGHT HAVE EVEN RETURNED!!, MARINE WARSHIPS ARE HEADIN' TOWARD OHARA, LIKE... RIGHT NOW!!, ROBIN., WHAT HAPPENED, ROBINI,...DOCTOR!!, HAA, HAA,....!! A close-up shows young Robin's shocked face, wide eyes and sweat drops visible as she thinks COME HEREI....!! and HAA... DID MY MOM... In a flashback panel, an older woman with long hair says I CANNOT MAKE HER "THE DAUGHTER OF A CRIMINAL." while a bearded man in a hat replies I HAVE TO SEVER ALL TIES WITH HER. Villagers react with shock:...!! WHAT'RE YOU TALKING ABOUT, ROBIN...I, Zドン!!,....!!

Inside the Tree of Knowledge library, scholars and townspeople gather. A woman in a headscarf exclaims TO CAPTURE ALL THE SCHOLARS OF THIS ISLAND....!! while another figure notes OH, YEAH... LISTEN. I HEARD MARINE WARSHIPS ARE COMING TO THIS ISLAND. Young Robin stands silently with ellipsis bubbles. A tall bearded man asks WHAT HAPPENED... SO SUDDENLY...I Outside, a scholar warns BUT I HEARD GOVERNMENT WARSHIPS HAVE ARRIVED ON THE ISLAND... while another adds ABOUT WHAT YOU JUST SAID, THEY'RE NOT "WARSHIPS"... IT'S LIKELY MOST BE THE STRICTEST INVESTIGATION EVER. A close-up of a stern face growls FOR ONE AS LITTLE AS YOURSELF... NOBODY WOULD SUSPECT THAT YOU ARE AN ARCHAE-OLOGIST. Young Robin listens as a voice advises LISTEN, ROBIN... EVEN IF PEOPLE FROM THE GOVERNMENT COME TO YOU, YOU MUST NOT TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE AN ARCHAEOLOGIST.

Inside the Ohara research center, armed marines storm the halls and order everyone to stop working. A marine shouts, "PUT YOUR HANDS IN THE AIR! MOVE OUTSIDE, ALL OF YOU!!" Another yells, "STOP WORKING ON YOUR PROJECTS!!!" and "OUTTA THE WAY!!" A large man in a black hat and coat, Spandine, bellows, "WE'LL BE PERFORMING A THOROUGH INVESTIGATION, SO EVERYONE, GET OUT!!!" He continues, "THIS OHARA RESEARCH CENTER IS SUSPECTED OF COMMITTING A SERIOUS CRIME, THE DECIPHERING OF THE PONEGLYPHS." An older scholar protests, "AREN'T YOU BEING A BIT TOO VIOLENT...I" Spandine snaps back, "THAT DOESN'T CONCERN ME! TAKE THEM OUT!!!" A subordinate replies, "YES, SIR!!" while another marine warns, "DON'T DISTURB THIS PLACE... EVERYTHING THAT EXISTS HERE IS SO PRECIOUS THAT THE LIKES OF YOU COULD NEVER APPRECIATE THEIR VALUE..." Young Nico Robin stands silently in the foreground, watching with wide eyes as the raid unfolds.

From the rooftops and streets of Ohara, marines address the gathered townspeople. A marine declares, "THE DESTRUCTION OF THE WORLD" and labels the scholars "DEMONS WHO DESIRE" it. Another announces, "THE ARCHAEOLOGISTS OF THIS ISLAND" and "NOTIFYING THE TOWNSPEOPLE!!!" The townspeople react with shock: "HUH!I" "WHY!I" "!!!I" A marine explains, "THEREFORE, THEY'RE THIS ISLAND'S PRIDE!! THEY'RE BRILLIANT SCHOLARS KNOWN ALL OVER THE WORLD..." The order follows: "MUST GO TO THE EVACUATION SHIP ON THE WEST SHORE TEMPORARILY, WITH PROOF OF IDENTIFICATION!!!" Another marine states, "THOSE WHO'RE NOT ASSOCIATED WITH ARCHAEOLOGY..." while a final declaration reads, "IN THE MEAN TIME... THIS ISLAND WILL BE SUBJECT TO FULL-SCALE INVESTIGATION!!!" The massive Tree of Knowledge looms in the background as the crowd reacts in confusion and fear.

Panic erupts across Ohara as marines enforce the evacuation. One marine states, "OUR DUTY IS TO DELIVER THIS MESSAGE. IT'S OF NO CONCERN TO US IF YOU CHOOSE TO IGNORE THIS ADVICE." Townspeople shout, "SO WHY DO WE HAVE TO LEAVE THE ISLANDI" "IF IT'S A PROBLEM WITH THE SCHOLARS, WE DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEM..." "EVACUATION SHIP...!I WHY DO WE...I" A marine warns, "EVACUATE TO THE WEST SHORE!!! FLEE THE TOWN!!!" while another yells, "THEY'RE PLOTTING SOMETHING!!!" and "AND LATER SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES!!!" Scholars and residents flee in terror amid smoke and debris as the giant tree is struck. Large sound effects "わあああ" and "あ゛" fill the air. A marine concludes, "...!!!"

A World Government ship flies its flag near the coast as chaos continues. Spandine is struck, screaming "GIYAA-AAAAH!!!" A marine reports, "THE BULLET JUST WENT THROUGH THE JACKET'S SLEEVE." Spandine mutters, "AH, I SEE..." while clutching his arm. In the background, a man falls from a cliff as another figure stands nearby. Spandine gasps, "CHIEF, PLEASE LOOK CAREFULLY..." and later cries, "...TELL UPPER MANAGEMENT... LET MY SON... SUCCEED TO THE CHIEF POSITION...!!!" A woman with long blonde hair, Nico Olvia, aims a gun and declares, "I WON'T MISS NEXT TIME." while thinking "..." Large sound effects mark the gunfire and impacts.

In the forest clearing, Spandine stands over the kneeling Nico Olvia while two Marines watch. Spandine laughs, "MWAHA-HAHAHA... THIS IS..." A voice exclaims, "... NICO OLIVIA!!!" Another Marine adds, "WOULD BE ON THIS ISLAND BY COMPLETE CHANCE...!!!" and "I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS. A SERIOUS CRIMINAL WHO ESCAPED FROM THE MARINE'S PRISON..." Close-up, Olvia grips her rifle and says, "MY PRESENCE HERE... DOESN'T CONFIRM THAT." Spandine leans in with a wide grin, "A WOMAN WHO KEPT DENYING ANY RELATION TO OHARA'S SCHOLARS... AND THAT THE SCHOLARS HERE HAVE COMMITTED THE SAME CRIME AS YOUR EXPLORATION SHIP... SHOWS UP HERE... IT'S LIKE ADMITTING THIS IS YOUR HOMETOWN." Olvia replies, "...I" Spandine continues, "BUT THAT'S OKAY. WE WON'T NEED TO CONFIRM ANY RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN YOU AND OHARA. IF WE SEARCH EVERY INCH OF THIS ISLAND... NATURALLY, YOU'RE PREPARED TO MAKE EXCUSES... YOU ARE A VERY SMART WOMAN..." He adds with a smirk, "... HEH... WELL..."

Spandine leans forward with a manic grin, "THE GOVERNMENT BELIEVES THIS TO BE 100% TRUE!" He continues, "WE'LL SOON UNEARTH PROOF THAT THEY'RE STUDYING THE PONEGLYPHS..." In the background, Olvia stands silently while Spandine, now seated, gestures, "WE'VE CAUGHT PLENTY OF RESEARCHERS OF THE PONEGLYPHS ALL OVER THE WORLD... AND HAVE ALWAYS LOOKED FOR THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO OHARA. THE GOVERNMENT CAPTURING YOU GUYS, WHO'D BEEN RUNNING FROM SEA TO SEA FOR 6 YEARS, WAS ONLY THE BEGINNING." Spandine laughs wildly, "MWA-HAHA... THAT'S RIGHT!!!" Olvia stares in shock, "DO YOU KNOW WHY THAT IS...!I IF THE HOLY LAND OF ARCHAEOLOGY, OHARA, IS DEFEATED, IT'LL CAUSE THE BIGGEST COMMOTION IN THE ARCHAEOLOGY SOCIETY EVER! WE'LL BE ABLE TO SHOW HOW SEVERE THE PUNISHMENT IS FOR THOSE WHO PURSUE THE TRUTH BEHIND THE VOID CENTURY...!!!... TO MAKE OHARA AN EXAMPLE...!I IT CAN'T BE...!!!"

Spandine glares, "HEH, YOU DO KNOW A LOT, DON'T YOU...I RIGHT. THEY ARE THERE SO WE DON'T ALLOW ANY OF THE CRIMINALS TO ESCAPE." Olvia sweats, "THEN... THOSE WARSHIPS FROM HEADQUARTERS ARE ON STANDBY TO..." Spandine grins, "TO PERFORM A COMPULSORY INVESTIGATION ON THIS ISLAND. AND TO OUST ANY UNINVOLVED PEOPLE. BUT, AS A FORMALITY... WE STILL NEED TO CONFIRM THEIR CRIME. WE'RE NOT PIRATES. THAT'S WHY I CAME HERE IN PERSON." Marines appear in the distance. Suddenly, a massive impact strikes: "レッド...!!!" Olvia is slammed backward with a cry, "UGH...!!!" Two figures are sent flying as a voice orders, "TAKE HER DOWN..." A curly-haired Marine with glasses watches coldly.

Explosions tear through the scholars' hidden library inside the giant tree: "ビキドォンッ!!" Bookshelves collapse in chaos. Marines shout, "THERE SHOULD BE A HIDDEN ROOM!! FIND IT!!!" "SHIT!!! BAS-TARDS!!!" "COME ON." "HE'S STILL HEREI TAKE HIM OUT!!!" A scholar yells, "HEY, STOP IT! BOOKS HERE ARE THE PROPERTY OF THE WORLD!!!" The curly-haired Marine fires his rifle, "CHCHK!!" Jaguar D. Saul stands alone by the shore at Northwest Shore (Saul's hideout), looking out to sea. A close-up shows a sweating, wide-eyed face gasping, "DAMN...!!!"

Warships loom on the horizon as explosions echo across the sea. "THEY'RE SO CLOSE..." "...WARSHIPS ARE POPPIN' UP..." A massive tree housing the scholars of Ohara comes into view. Marines and agents surround the scholars, who are forced to kneel. A rifle-wielding agent barks orders: "GATHER ALL THE SCHOLARS HERE!!!" Young Robin stands alone in front of the group. "IS THAT IT!I" The Tree of Knowledge towers above the captives as the agents close in.

Panic erupts among the scholars. "WEST SHORE!!" "HURRY!!!" "WHERE'S THE EVACUATION SHIP!I" "I HEARD THEY WERE RESEARCHING HOW TO DESTROY THE WORLD..." "WHAT HAVE THEY DONE!I" "LOOK!! THE SCHOLARS REALLY HAVE BEEN CAPTURED!!" Robin speaks with an older scholar: "I HEARD THERE'S AN EVACUATION SHIP... I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE GOVERNMENT IS PLANNING TO DO... BUT YOU SHOULD GO!!" The scholar refuses, "SHUT UP AND GO!!!" "BUT... ME, TOO!! I'M JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE..." "ROBIN!!" "...NOBODY THERE IS NICE TO ME." "NO." "I'LL STAY HERE WITH EVERYONE ELSE!" Another scholar laughs wildly, "MWAAA-HAHAHA-HA."

A cloaked figure arrives. "SIR, GREETINGS!!" "HOW'S IT GOING, EVERYONE...I" Olivia appears among the scholars. "OLIVIA-SAN...!!" "SHI..." "OLIVIA..." "I DIDN'T KNOW THE FOREST OF THIS ISLAND... A stern agent declares, "IF YOU'VE GOT ANYTHING TO DO WITH HER, WE CAN END THIS QUICKLY." "SHE'S AN ESCAPEE... HER GROUP WAS OBLITERATED FOR DECIPHERING THE ANCIENT LETTERS..." Olivia lies motionless on the ground. "HOW CRUEL... TO A WOMAN..." Robin stares in horror. The bearded scholar urges, "ROBIN GO TO THE EVACUATION SHIP!!" "HURRY!!" Close-ups show Robin's tearful face as she whispers, "ROBIN..." "YOU'VE REALLY GROWN."

A massive explosion erupts from the Tree of Knowledge, sending shockwaves and debris flying as "ズドォーン!!!" shakes the island. Scholars and Marines react in horror. "WHAT ARE YOU THINKINGI HEY!! STOP 'EM!!!" "...!!! I CAN'T BELIEVE HE WOULD GO THIS FAR...!!!" "PURU-PURU-RU..." "OH... THAT MADE FOR A BIG SHOW..." "WHAT DO YOU THINK THE LIBRARY IS!I" "... WHA... WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!!!" A Marine reports, "WITH A HUGE STONE THAT SEEMS TO BE A PONEGLYPH AND OBVIOUS RESEARCH DOCUMENTS ABOUT THE ANCIENT LETTERS!!! THERE'S A ROOM IN THE BASEMENT WE'VE FOUND IT!!!" Young Robin stands among the crowd as someone says, "YEAH, THIS IS HIM." An agent requests, "HELLO, MAY I SPEAK TO CHIEF, PLEASEI"

Spandine grins menacingly and declares, "NOW, SCHOLARS OF OHARA..." while a Marine laughs "MWA-HAHAHA..." and a den den mushi rings "カチャーン!!". A massive impact strikes as "ドン!!!" echoes across the landscape. Spandine spreads his arms and proclaims, "YOUR DEATH PENALTY IS ASSURED!!!" The scholars stand in shock. Clover states, "THE WORLD'S GREATEST ARCHAEOLOGISTS WILL ALL BE EXECUTED, TOGETHER...!!!" Robin watches in horror as someone cries, "I TERRIBLY REGRET... TODAY, THIS DAY..."

Robin pleads with Clover, "JUST FOR READING ANCIENT LETTERS!I WHY!I" Clover replies, "EH... DOCTOR...!!!... ARE YOU ALL GOING TO BE KILLED!I IT'S A LIE, ISN'T IT!I" In the background, a Marine reports, "JUST REPORT TO THE GOROUSEI LATER. THIS WAS IT. THAT'S ALL I HAD TO DO.... SEEI WHAT A LETDOWN." Explosions rock the scene as scholars shout, "IS IT REALLY THE WEAPON ITSELF... THAT THE GOVERNMENT FEARS...!!!I" "WHAT!II" Robin yells, "ROBIN... STOP IT. NOBODY WOULD BELIEVE THE BABBLING MOUTH OF A LITTLE GIRL." A Marine retorts, "LIAR!! NOBODY THINKS LIKE THAT!" and "YOU LITTLE BRAT!! THEIR GOAL IS TO AWAKEN A POWERFUL WEAPON AFTER THE RESEARCH, AND KILL A LARGE NUMBER OF HUMANS!!!" Clover shouts, "DR. CLOVER! DOCTOR!" Clover declares, "HAVE BEEN STUDYING ALL THIS TIME...
