The White City

Inside a grand hall labeled 'NORTH BLUE SPIDER MILES WASTE PROCESSING PLANT WAREHOUSE', the Donquixote Pirates gather around a long banquet table. Doflamingo sits at the head while executives including Trebol, Diamante, Pica, and others eat and drink. Young Trafalgar Law stands nearby with a serious expression. CORAZON IS MY PRECIOUS, LITTLE BROTHER! I WILL PERSONALLY BRING DEATH TO ANYONE THAT SO MUCH AS TOUCHES A HAIR ON HIS HEAD!'. A sign identifies the group as 'DONQUIXOTE PIRATES CAPTAIN DONQUIXOTE DOFLAMINGO'. Law is labeled 'BOY FROM THE WHITE CITY TRAFALGAR LAW (AGE: 10)'.

In a flashback panel, young Law stands in a ruined street as voices ask, 'I DON'T KNOW. I BARELY MANAGED TO ESCAPE MYSELF. HOW'D YOU EVEN MANAGE TO GET OUTI', 'ARE THERE ANY OTHER SURVIVORS LEFT IN FLEVANCEI', and 'BUT JUST IN CASE, YOU BETTER NOT GET CLOSE TO ME DASUYAN! I AIN'T ABOUT TO CATCH SOMETHING LIKE THAT DASUYAN!'. A masked figure clutches his throat with 'UCHK!' while another demands, 'OI, WE'RE EATING HERE!'. Close-ups show Law's intense face as he states, 'I CROSSED THE BORDER. HIDDEN IN THE MOUNTAINS OF CORPSES...'. Someone asks, 'WHAT IS IT THAT YOU RESENT SOI'.

Young Law, covered in marks and wearing his signature hat, declares with wide eyes, 'BELIEVE IN ANYTHING. I NO LONGER...'. In a flashback, he glares and states, 'I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE.' and 'I PROMISE YOU.' Corazon appears in shadow, warning, 'CORAZON, YOU BETTER NOT GET CARRIED AWAY WITH YOURSELF.' Law replies, 'I AIN'T EVEN SCARED OF DYING!'. A woman with pigtails and a hooded figure stand nearby as Law rips his shirt with 'RIP!!' and shouts, 'YOU'RE GONNA GET THE "SKEWER TORTURE"! DON'T MESS AROUND WITH PIRATES!', 'STUFF LIKE THAT IS WHAT GETS YOU TORTURED, IDIOT!', and 'ARE YOU STUPID OR SOMETHING!I WEREN'T YOU LISTENING!I'. The woman yells, 'YOU'RE PROBABLY THINKING THAT JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE A KID YOU CAN CRY AND APOLOGIZE AND PRETEND LIKE NOTHING EVER HAPPENED, RIGHT!I'. Law stands defiantly with 'GLARE' effects around him.

The narration explains that all of the country of Flevance was known by the name of the White City. A small figure with goggles wonders, "WHAT IS THIS 'WHITE CITY' THAT HE'S FROM ANYWAYI" The scene shifts to a bustling white city where a masked man in a dark coat stands holding papers. A woman with a large bow smiles while holding documents and says, "ITS PEOPLE WERE ALL WEALTHY AND THE STREETS THEMSELVES SEEMED..." A small creature rustles nearby. In the background a child with curly hair exclaims, "STRAIGHT OUT OF THE SNOW COUNTRIES OF FAIRY TALES, THE EARTH, THE TREES AND GRASS WERE ALL PURE WHITE... I HEAR THAT ITS BEAUTY WAS SO SPECTACULAR THAT IT MADE YOU QUESTION WHETHER IT WAS REAL OR NOT." A large creature groans, "UHHH..." The narration continues: "AND FROM IT UTENSILS, PAINTS, SWEETS... MAKEUP, AND EVEN WEAPONS WERE MADE..." Another panel shows the city square with a statue as the text states, "ONE DAY, A CERTAIN TYPE OF LEAD, 'AMBER LEAD,' WAS DISCOVERED BENEATH THE KINGDOM. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THAT MINERAL WAS THE SOURCE OF THE WONDROUS NATURE OF THE LAND."

The narration details how the quick-to-notice World Government began to transport the goods, booming the transportation industry. Amber lead birthed Flevance bottomless wealth and became its primary export as customers worldwide purchased the high-quality goods. A large man with a top hat and cape slams his fists and declares, "FLEVANCE WAS THE ENVY OF THE WORLD. PEOPLE WERE G- LIOUS!" A woman with a bow reacts in shock. In a flashback panel a voice says, "SADLY... IT NO LONGER EXISTS." Others cry out, "WHAT!I" and "WOW... I WANNA GO THERE!" The bottom panels show a quiet room with a man reclining in an armchair beside a barrel and a bottle, with a banner reading "FLEVANCE" visible on the wall.

The narration reveals that about 100 years before the amber lead industry began, the World Government conducted a study and determined the mineral's true nature: a poison with little effect while underground, but once dug up and handled it begins to eat away at the human body. A small creature with goggles reacts, "HEHI!" A masked man in a coat walks with suitcases past a girl with pigtails. The text continues, "THE GOVERNMENT AND THE ROYAL FAMILY OF THE COUNTRY KEPT THIS TRUTH A SECRET. AND THE PEOPLE OF THE COUNTRY, UNAWARE, CONTINUED TO MINE THE MINERAL." A chaotic panel shows wealthy people celebrating with money flying as one man shouts, "BLINDED BY THE VIRTUALLY LIMITLESS FORTUNE AT THEIR FINGERTIPS," while others laugh and cheer.

The narration explains the terrifying generational effect: if a single child had lead build up, their children would have shortened life spans. A diagram shows life expectancy dropping across generations, with a figure pointing out, "DIES AT 70," "DIES AT 50," "DIES AT 30," "DIES AT 10," "NO DESCENDANTS." The masked man states, "AND THOSE CHILDREN WILL GROW UP AND HAVE THEIR OWN CHILDREN, WHOSE LIFE SPANS WILL BE FURTHER SHORTENED. GENERATION AFTER GENERATION, THEIR LIFE SPANS WOULD SHRINK. EVENTUALLY A GENERATION LIKE LAW'S, ONE THAT WILL DIE OUT BEFORE IT MANAGES TO EVEN COME OF AGE, WILL BE BORN." The final panels show the group walking away from the ruined white city as the text concludes, "IT WAS FAR TOO LATE. BY THE TIME THE WORLD HAD REALIZED... THE TOXICITY OF AMBER LEAD," with sound effects "バンッ!!" and "ビュルルル!!" erupting around them.

In a hospital corridor, narration explains the horror of Amber Lead sickness: "PEOPLE'S SKIN AND HAIR BEGAN TO GO WHITE RIGHT BEFORE THEIR VERY EYES...AND THEIR ENTIRE BODIES WOULD BEGIN TO ACHE. EVENTUALLY, ONE AFTER ANOTHER, PEOPLE BEGAN TO DROP DEAD. DOCTORS WERE POWERLESS TO STOP THE PROGRESSION OF THE ILLNESS." A shirtless man with white patches on his skin reaches out desperately from his bed. Further narration states, "SENIOR CITIZENS, ADULTS, AND CHILDREN ALIKE... AS A RESULT OF THE OFFSET IN LIFE SPANS, EVERY GENERATION BROKE OUT IN ILLNESS AROUND THE SAME TIME!" Outside on the street, a cloaked figure walks away as bystanders react with shock. A young girl cries out, "IS THAT HOW ALL THE PEOPLE OF THAT KID'S COUNTRY DIED!I HOW TERRIBLE!" Someone shouts "SENOR!" The narration continues, "THE TRUE TRAGEDY IS JUST BEGINNING!" A close-up shows a stern man with sunglasses and a cigarette declaring that Flevance was quarantined: "THEY CLOSED EVERY PASSAGE OUT OF THE COUNTRY. THEY, IN EFFECT, QUARANTINED THE WHITE CITY!" He adds, "SEEING THAT PEOPLE ACROSS THE WHITE CITY WERE SUCCUMBING TO THE EXACT SAME ILLNESS, FLEVANCE'S NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES BEGAN TO THINK OF AMBER LEAD SICKNESS AS AN EPIDEMIC."

The story of Flevance's downfall continues. Narration reveals, "WE'RE TREATED LIKE MONSTERS WHO HAD ESCAPED FROM THEIR CAGES. THE INHABITANTS OF THE WHITE CITY, HOPING TO FIND TREATMENT AND SAFE HAVEN IN OTHER COUNTRIES... THE ROYAL FAMILY TOOK THE AID OF THE WORLD GOVERNMENT AND ESCAPED AS THEY COULD." Soldiers fire on fleeing civilians at a checkpoint marked "STOP," with the text noting, "FEARED AND MISUNDERSTOOD, THEY WERE SHOT AND KILLED!" A close-up of the man with sunglasses states, "IRONICALLY ENOUGH, THEY HAD MORE LEAD BULLETS THAN THEY'D EVER NEED. BUT FLEVANCE DIDN'T STAY QUIET FOR LONG." Scenes show chaos and fighting as narration adds, "AFTER ALL, THE PAIN OF AN ILLNESS ISN'T SOMETHING OTHERS CAN FEEL! HOW UTTERLY HUMAN. THE UGLY IN THIS WORLD IS SO OFTEN SIMPLY JUST COVERED UP." The page ends with armed soldiers in gas masks advancing, narration declaring, "SHOW NO MERCY! COUNTRIES ARMED WITH THE JUST CAUSE OF RETRIBUTION... SO A WAR FINALLY BROKE OUT!"

Young Law stands with his family near the sea as narration recounts the evacuation: "LAW, YOU TOO! COME! ARE THERE NO MORE CHILDRENI AND THE REST WENT JUST ABOUT HOW YOU WOULD IMAGINE IT." His mother says, "OH, LAMIE IS... THAT'S RIGHT... WELL, WE'LL JUST HAVE YOU LEAVE ON THE NEXT EVAC SHIP!" Young Lami cries, "SISTER! MY SISTER'S ABOUT TO DIE! I CAN'T JUST LEAVE NOW!" A flashback shows a soldier stating, "THE SOLDIERS SAID THEY'D LET JUST THE CHILDREN ESCAPE!" Law's mother replies, "IT'LL COME AGAIN." In another scene, a woman tells Law, "SEE, LAWI THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS DESPAIR IN THIS WORLD. A MERCIFUL HAND WILL ALWAYS REACH OUT." Law's father adds, "BUT THEY TOLD ME TO LIVE ON, SO THAT'S WHAT I'M GONNA DO!" Lami pleads, "MY DADDY AND MOMMY BOTH DIED! YOU CAN HAVE THEM SAVE LAMIE AFTERWARDS!" Law shouts, "LAW! YOU'RE NOT COMING!I LET'S GO TOGETHER!" while children scream in panic.

At the hospital in Flevance, desperate voices cry, "DOCTOR! HELP US! DOCTOR!" Narration questions, "THERE MUST BE A WAY TO ELIMINATE AMBER LEAD FROM THE BODY! THE DISEASE ITSELF ISN'T EVEN CONTAGIOUS! WHY WON'T THE GOVERNMENT REPORT THIS FACT!I WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH DOCTORS HERE! OR BLOOD FOR TRANSFUSIONS! ANYTHING!" Young Law asks, "WHY IS IT SO NOISY OUTSIDEI" His father answers, "OH... THAT'S A FESTIVAL! YOU KNOW FLEVANCE IS ALWAYS LIVELY." Inside, Lami lies in bed saying, "HANG IN THERE JUST A LITTLE LONGER! DAD'S THE BEST DOCTOR IN THE COUNTRY! IT'S BECOMING WHITE..." while Law reassures her, "I JUST KNOW HE'LL MAKE YOU BETTER!" Law's father explains a medical procedure: "THIS PARTICULAR SURGERY UTILIZES THIS BLOOD VESSEL." The page ends with Law studying intently as his family smiles, but a sudden loud impact SFX "ビャン!!" startles him, his eye widening in shock.

Young Law screams in anguish over the bodies of his parents, crying out "FATHER!" and "MOTHER!" as debris and smoke fill the air. Nearby, his sister Lami smiles and says, "LAW, LET'S GO TO THE FESTIVAL!" A figure with a dripping face states, "TWO INFECTED... EXTERMINATED." Another voice declares, "A MERCIFUL HAND..." A woman in a headband adds, "WILL ALWAYS REACH OUT." In the devastated landscape filled with corpses, Law kneels and wails, "SIS-TEEEER ~~~!!!" as the scene shows countless bodies strewn across the ground.

Survivors including a young Law and Lami stand together as Law shouts, "I WILL LIVE ON!" and the group cheers, "LET'S GO TOGETHER!" Lami beams with excitement. The hospital erupts in flames as Law yells, "LAMIE!" The narration states, "THE WHITE CITY, FLEVANCE... WAS DESTROYED." Smoke and destruction engulf the burning cityscape while Law reacts in horror.

Narration reflects on a ten-year-old enduring tragedy: "FOR A 10 YEAR OLD KID TO GO THROUGH SOMETHING LIKE THAT... AT THE HANDS OF HUMANS. IN THE END... OF COURSE HIS PERSONALITY'S GONNA GET FUCKED UP..." Young Law sits alone thinking, "I JUST HAVE TO KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT, NO ONE'S GONNA EVEN FIND OUT... WHO CARES IF THE WORLD LOSES ONE MORE SHITHEADI" He questions, "WHY DOES THIS IDIOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO LIVE!I" recalling, "MY PARENTS, MY SISTER, EVERYONE... THEY ALL DIED..." Spotting a figure, he notes, "THERE HE IS... CORAZON..."

Corazon is violently struck with a massive impact SFX "グザッ!!!" as blood sprays. Young Law panics, "SHIT... I WAS SEEN..." A subordinate reports, "TO THE YOUNG MASTER!" Another declares, "I'M GOING TO REPORT THIS..." A fish-like figure exclaims, "HE... HE BROKE THE EDICT OF BLOOD!" and adds, "IT'S THE SKEWER TORTURE FOR HIM DASIYAN!" The scene shows chaos and alarm among the witnesses.
