Dr. Clover holds up a certificate bearing a rose seal and declares, "ROBIN, TAKE THIS. THIS CERTIFIES THAT YOU'RE A SCHOLAR." He points dramatically with his cane, shouting, "LISTEN, ROBIN!! REMEMBER WELL WHAT BEING AN ARCHAEOLOGIST MEANS!!" Young Robin smiles while clutching a small wrapped gift. Scholars in the background cheer, "CONGRATULATIONS, ROBIN." A large sign reads "Ohara Library, Head Librarian (Archaeologist) Dr. Clover." The word "HARA" appears on the library wall as the crowd erupts with "どどん!!" sound effects.

Dr. Clover's intense face fills the panel as he roars, "IS THE 'PAST'!!!" and "KNOWL-EDGE"... The scene shifts to the massive Tree of Knowledge towering over Ohara. Narration explains, "THIS IS THE 5000 YEAR OLD TREE!!! THERE ARE NUMEROUS AMOUNTS OF DOCUMENTS THAT WERE BROUGHT TO THIS 'TREE OF OMNISCIENCE' FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD THROUGHOUT THE YEARS." Inside the vast library, Dr. Clover stands with arms spread before scholars and states, "UNDER THIS 'TREE OF OMNISCIENCE' FROM EVERY SEA OUT THERE!!! BY US USING THESE BOOKS, THERE EXISTS ABSOLUTELY NO HISTORICAL MYSTERY THAT WE CANNOT SOLVE!!" A globe model and bookshelves surround them. Scholars reply, "THIS LIBRARY TAKES PRIDE IN BEARING THE WORLD'S LARGEST AND OLDEST BASE OF KNOWLEDGE. EXCELLENT ARCHAEOLOGISTS HAVE GATHERED."

Young Robin declares with determination, "DOCTOR! I... I WANT TO SOLVE THE MYSTERY OF THE 'VOID HISTORY'!!!" Dr. Clover pats her head and replies, "AND I EXPECT YOU TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE WORLD WITH RESEARCH ON VARIOUS CULTURES. UNDERSTOODI BE PROUD OF YOURSELF FOR BEING ABLE TO STUDY ARCHAEOLOGY IN THIS PLACE." Robin asks, "WHY!I WE'LL KNOW WHAT HAPPENED DURING THE VOID CENTURY IF WE STUDY THE PONEGLYPH, RIGHT!I" Dr. Clover reacts in shock, "N-NO!! THAT'S PROHIBITED!! ABSOLUTELY PROHIBITED!!!" and "YOU SHOULD KNOW BY NOW THAT DECIPHERING THE PONEGLYPH IS A CRIME!!!" Robin stands shocked as he continues, "I KNOW! YOU USED YOUR ABILITY TO PEEK INTO THE BASEMENT!!! YOU...!!! HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT!I" Robin cries out, "NUOOO!!" while scholars watch in alarm.

Inside the vast Tree of Knowledge library at night, young Robin stands before the towering Poneglyph in the basement. The scholars react in shock. "THE PONEGLYPH LATE AT NIGHT IN THE BASEMENT!!!" someone shouts. "BUT, ALL OF YOU... YOU'RE STUDYING," another voice adds. The scholars burst in from the front, furious. "BUT YOU'D NEVER LET ME INTO THE ROOM EVEN IF I CAME IN FROM THE FRONT!!" one yells. "DON'T TELL ME YOU WERE PEEKING IN ON THAT, TOO!!" another demands. "HOW'D YOU KNOW OF THAT...I WHAT'S GOING ON!I" "YOU!! ROBIN!!!" they roar. Robin, sweating and determined, faces them and declares, "TO BECOME AN ARCHAEOLOGIST, SO YOU'LL LET ME JOIN IN YOUR RESEARCH!!! THAT'S WHY... I TRIED MY HARDEST."

The scholars surround young Robin, their faces grim. "ROBIN..." one murmurs. "YOU'RE STILL A CHILD!!!" another exclaims. "IT'S TRUE... YOU'VE GAINED THE KNOWLEDGE TO CLAIM THAT YOU'RE AN ARCHAEOLOGIST... BUT..." They plead and warn her desperately. "I SWEAR ON THE TREE OF OMNI-SCIENCE...!! IF YOU GO NEAR THAT BASEMENT AGAIN, WE'LL PROHIBIT YOU FROM ENTERING THE RESEARCH CENTER AND THE LIBRARY!!! UNDERSTOOD!I!" one shouts. "...WE, OF OHARA, ARE THE ONLY ONES WHO CAN DECIPHER THE ANCIENT WRITINGS." "WE'RE ALREADY INVOLVED. WE CANNOT TURN BACK." "IT'S A GOOD CHANCE. LET ME TELL YOU." "WE'RE DETERMINED TO DO THIS... WE'RE WILLING TO RISK OUR LIVES." "EVEN US... IF PEOPLE FIND OUT ABOUT US, WE'LL BE BEHEADED." "COUNTLESS SCHOLARS LOST THEIR LIVES ALL OVER THE WORLD....!" "WHEN THIS BECAME THE WORLD'S LAW 800 YEARS AGO..."

A flashback begins under a crescent moon as young Robin runs across a bridge toward the port town. Narration reveals: "ROBIN'S MOTHER OLIVIA HAS BEEN CAPTURED. SHE STILL DOESN'T KNOW... THE INCIDENT FROM THE OTHER DAY... SHE'S COMPLETELY... FOLLOWING HER MOTHER'S PATH. HER FATE IS OBVIOUS...!!!!" Robin watches from hiding as her mother is led away in chains. Later, Robin stands alone by the shore, staring at a massive wanted poster of "NICO OLIVIA" with a massive bounty. Small sounds punctuate the scene: "TAP TAP", "SPLISH..."

On a stormy sea, a massive figure lies half-submerged in the waves, barely clinging to a rock. "TAP TAP" sounds echo as young Robin approaches the enormous, injured giant on the shore. The giant's fingers twitch slightly. Robin stares up in shock, a sweat drop forming. "WHA...I" she gasps, eyes wide at the sight of the fallen giant before her.

A massive figure thrashes in the surf, coughing violently as waves crash over him. "GEH-BO-BO!!" he chokes, body half-submerged. A close-up shows a twitching hand. Farther along the rocky shore, the same giant lies beached and motionless under an empty sky, still coughing. A small girl with short black hair stands watching silently, three dots hovering near her. The giant suddenly rears up in agony, mouth gaping wide as he roars, "GU-GAA-AAH!!!" while the girl remains a tiny silhouette below his massive hands.

The giant lies face-down on the sand, arms outstretched toward the tiny girl. "..." he groans weakly. She stares back, murmuring "MIMIZUI" as the note clarifies "MIZU MEANS WATER AND MIMIZU EARTHWORM." The giant suddenly thrashes upright, water spraying everywhere as he yells "BHAAAA!!" and clutches his head. Large onomatopoeia "ゴク ゴク ぐびぐび...!!" marks him gulping air while the girl watches from the treeline.

The giant sits up among the rocks, a label identifying him as "Drifter (giant) Saul." He speaks gratefully: "... YA SAVED MUH LIFE...... WONDER IF DAT PERSON'S A'IGHT, TOO." Young Robin stands before him and replies, "I SEE... I DON'T CARE WHERE DIS IS... BUT I WISH I'D DRIFTED TO SUMPLACE UNINHABITED..." Saul answers, "YUP.... DIS LAND... GOT A TOWN, NOI" Robin simply looks at him.

Saul sits cross-legged, explaining his injured leg and plans to build a raft. Robin asks, "... IS DIS DA FIRST TIME YA SEE A GIANTI" Saul replies, "YUP." He continues, "LEMME TELL YA, DON' THINK'A ME LIKE DOSE BARBARIC 'ELBAF.'... I'LL ASK YA ANYWAY, EVEN IF YA SAY NAY, BUT... WOUL'JA PLEASE NOT TELL ANYBODY 'BOUT MEI" Robin answers, "OKAY." Saul adds, "IT BODERS ME DAT SINCE DEY'RE VERY WELL-KNOWN, PEOPLE TINK GIANTS'RE ALL LIKE 'EM. WE'VE GOT SOME GENTLE GIANT RACES, TOO."

The giant in the black hat stares down with a fierce expression, sweat flying as he growls, "IMPOSSIBLE. NO WAY A CHILD CAN KEEP ANY SECRET~..." and "I WON'T TELL." A voice answers, "YA ANSWERED TOO QUICK. IT'S IMPOSSIBLE." He sweats more, muttering "OKAY." In close-up his scarred face twists as he insists, "I'M NOT INTERESTED IN YOU." Young Robin watches him with wide eyes and says, "IT'S 'CAUSE..." The giant suddenly bursts into wild laughter, eyes squeezed shut, mouth wide open with teeth bared, shouting "DERESHI-SHISHI-SHISHI!!! DERESHI-SHISHI!!!" while hearts float above his head. Robin stares in surprise, asking "DERESHII WHAT DOES THAT MEANI" and "YOU'RE LAUGHINGI" The giant roars back, "HOO! DERESHI!!!" and "WHATI I'M JUS' LAFFIN'!" Robin observes, "YER QUITE A CHAR-ACTER."

The giant continues laughing uproariously, "DERESHI! DERESHI-SHISHI!!!" Robin's face breaks into a bright smile, eyes closed as she giggles, "...HEE HEE." The giant praises her, "AHAHA-HAHA-HAHA! THAT'S A FUNNY WAY TO LAUGH!" and "YA SHOULD LAUGH MORE. HEY, YER CUTE WHEN YA LAUGH." Robin answers softly, "DERESHI-SHISHI!" while thinking "(ま..." The giant adds, "...PEOPLE BEEN TELLIN' ME I AIN'T GOOD AT LAFFIN'." Robin asks, "WHAT'S YER NAMEI" The giant replies, "AH, THAT... DI" then proudly declares, "I'M SAUL! JAGUAR D. SAUL." Robin introduces herself, "ROBIN." Saul continues, "I DON'T REALLY KNOW. EVERYONE IN MY FAMILY LINE GOT IT."

Saul stands among rocky cliffs and tells Robin, "I SAID I WOULDN'T TELL." "AN' IF ANYONE FINDS ME, IT'D BE TROUBLE." "SOME-ONE'S AFTA' ME NOW." "ROBIN, T'BE HONEST," he adds while walking away. A caption reads, "Fourth night after the giant had drifted in..." The scene shifts to a coastal area with a large ship labeled "MA..." and a giant structure in the distance. An angry man with a checkered scarf yells, "WE'RE MISSING BREAD!! OUR SHARES!!!" and "WHERE'S ROBIN!I" A woman beside him asks, "HONEY, WHY SO NOISY THIS EARLY...I" The man shouts desperately, "ROBIIIIN!!" A close-up shows a different man with a large nose and sweat drops thinking, "MMMM." while another panel exclaims, "THE JAMS, TOO!!"

Saul sits on the rocky shore offering food, saying "I APPRECIATE YER THOUGHTS. JUS' EAT DA REST, ROBIN." Robin eats quietly while Saul munches and remarks, "YUM." Robin replies, "WELL... I'LL KEEP BUILDIN' MY RAFT." and "I APPRECIATE DAT YA CARE." Saul answers, "OKAY." and "I GOT SOME FISH LAS' NIGHT AND ATE IT. I'M OKAY." Robin looks down and confides, "BUT HER JOB KEEPS HER AWAY ON THE SEA, AND I DON'T EVEN REMEMBER HER FACE. I DON'T HAVE ANY PARENTS. I HAVE... A MOM." Saul asks, "YA BEEN WIT' ME ALL DAY LONG FOR A FEW DAYS NOW. BUT... ARE YA BOREDI" Robin continues, "BUT THEY WON'T LET ME JOIN THEIR RESEARCH GROUP. I LIKE THE ARCHAE-OLOGISTS," while Saul warns, "WON'T YER FRIENDS AN PARENTS GET SUSPICIOUSI"

A young girl with black hair stares up nervously as a towering, bearded man in a black hat looms over her. He laughs wildly, "DERESHISHI!!!" while declaring, "AH... YER A DEVIL FRUIT USER, HUHI" and "THE KIDS IN TOWN... SAY I'M CREEPY, SO I DON'T PLAY WITH THEM." The man continues, "ACTUALLY, I ENVY YA. I'VE BEEN TO DA GRAND LINE, AND I'VE SEEN AMAZING DEVIL FRUIT USERS. AREN'T YOU AFRAID OF MEI" The girl replies softly with "...". He adds, "IF YA KEEP LAFFIN', Y'CAN BE HAPPY!" and "FUNNY OR NOT, DOESN'T MATTER. YA KNOW WHAT," as the scene shifts to a wide view of rocky hills where he stands holding a log. The girl smiles brightly and answers, "HEHEHEE! IT'S STILL A FUNNY WAY TO LAUGH." The man questions, "WHYI" while she beams.

The large man keeps laughing with "DERESHISHI" as he tells the girl, "I'D BE AN IDIOT TO LAUGH WHEN I HAVE A HARD TIME... SO JUS' LAFF! WHEN YA HAVE A HARD TIME, JUS' LAFF. Y'SEEM T'BE HAVIN' A HARD TIME, THOUGH YER JUS' A CHILD. WHYI YA LAFF WHEN YER HAVIN' FUN. DAT MEANS, IF YA KEEP LAFFIN', YA'LL HAVE MO' FUN. IT WON'T BE LIKE DAT, DERE-SHISHI!" The scene cuts to a Marine ship sailing on the sea with labels: "TO CHIEF SPANDYNE...", "FROM MARINE HEAD-QUARTERS", and "West Blue, Somewhere on the Sea." Inside a ship's cabin twenty years ago, CP9 Chief Spandine sits with agents. He snaps, "I DON'T CARE IF IT'S OHARA OR OPERA. WHY'D I HAVE TO COME ALL THE WAY TO THE WEST BLUEI" An agent reports, "I ALREADY TOLD THEM I'D NOTIFY THEM ONCE WE SEE THE COASTLINE." Another says, "IGNORE 'EM! THEY'RE JUST CALLING FOR A STATUS REPORT." Spandine orders, "CHIEF, THEY'RE CALLING YOU."

Dr. Clover stands beneath the giant Tree of Knowledge as someone shouts, "DR. CLOVER!!" and "DOCTOR!!" In a town square, a man with a rabbit-like hat growls, "NOTIFY THE SCHOLARS!!" while another replies, "OKAY." A figure warns, "LET'S TAKE PRECAUTIONS. IT COULD BE AN INVESTIGATION!" A man on the shore stares at a docked Marine ship and stammers, "HAA... HAA... ERM... I DON'T KNOW FOR SURE, BUT A MARINE SHIP IS ANCHORED AT THE SHORE." Back on the rocky hills, the large bearded man bursts into louder laughter, "GOOD, GOOD, GOOD, DERESHISHISHISHI!!!!" The young girl hugs her knees, squeezes her eyes shut, and shouts back with a grin, "DERE-SHI!!"
