Strong World

The scene opens at Marine Headquarters three years before the Great Age of Pirates. A wide view shows the fortress surrounded by jagged rocks and ocean waves. Narration states: ABOUT 3 YEARS BEFORE THE GREAT AGE OF PIRATES... A young Garp argues with Sengoku and Tsuru. Garp declares, "MAYBE YOU AREN'T, BUT I AM!! WE'RE NOT THROUGH YET!!!" Sengoku reports, "OFF THE COAST OF ED WAR IN THE NEW WORLD!!! ROGER AND THE GOLDEN LION HAVE MADE CONTACT." Garp reacts with shock, "WAIT, GARP!! THERE IT IS!" In the lower panel the crew debates boarding the Oro Jackson. Tsuru says, "OTSURU-CHAN, IF YOU ARE HEADING OUT, GIVE ME A RIDE!!" Garp protests, "I DON'T LIKE LETTING YOU ON BOARD. YOU ALWAYS DESTROY THE SHIP." Sengoku retorts, "YOU DON'T HAVE ORDERS TO SHIP OUT, DO YOU!I" A woman adds, "DON'T SAY THAT. I HAVE TO BRING DOWN ROGER MYSELF!!!" Garp is told, "GARP-SAN, DID YOU TURN DOWN YET ANOTHER PROMOTION!I" and replies, "YOU'RE SO COOL!"

Marines react as Admiral Sengoku and Vice-Admiral Garp head out together. Someone shouts, "WHOA!! ADMIRAL SENGOKU AND VICE-ADMIRAL GARP HEADING OUT TOGETHER!!" Garp yells, "THAT'S NOT WHAT I MEANT!!" while another voice says, "OH, DON'T WORRY. I'LL GIVE YOU ALL THE CREDIT." Garp insists, "GARP!! SHIKI IS MY BUSINESS!" A woman with glasses shouts, "WELL, IT'S ROGER, AFTER ALL...!!! GARP-SAN CAN'T LET THAT ONE GO...!!!" The scene shifts to the sea with the caption THE NEW WORLD. On the Oro Jackson, crew members panic around a wounded Roger. One cries, "THAT'S IT! CROCUS-SAN, HOW IS THE CAPTAIN DOING!I" Crocus answers, "I HAVE ALL SORTS OF WEAKNESSES, DUMMY!!!" Roger laughs, "YOU CAN'T DIE NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES YOU GET STABBED, SO WHAT DO YOU CAREI" A crewmate screams, "CAPTAIN ROGER!!! OUR LIVES ARE MORE IMPORTANT!!!" while another yells, "JUST DO AS THE GOLDEN LION ASKS FOR THE TIME BEING!!" and "HE SHOULDN'T FIGHT, SHOULD HE!I AS HIS DOCTOR, TELL HIM HE SHOULDN'T DO IT!"

Rayleigh urges, "JUST HAVE FAITH IN TOM'S SHIP, THE ORO JACKSON!!!" A crewmate shouts, "RAYLEIGH-SAN!!!" while another says, "JUST GIVE UP. WE HAVE BEEN WITH ROGER FOR AGES AND HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO STOP HIM!!" Roger smiles, "ROGER'S TIME IS ALMOST UP...!!!" Shiki appears in a massive close-up, grinning wildly with a cigar, declaring, "HOW MANY TIMES HAVE WE HAD THIS TALK, ROGER!I WE HAD OUR PROBLEMS WHEN WE WERE YOUNG, BUT THAT IS ALL WATER UNDER THE BRIDGE NOW!!! PLUS I'VE GOT THE PERFECT PLAN THAT I'VE SPENT YEARS WORKING ON! WE'LL BE ABLE TO TAKE OVER THE WORLD IN NO TIME!!! BE MY RIGHT-HAND MAN, ROGER!!! YOU KNOW THE LOCATION OF THE WEAPON THAT CAN DESTROY THE WORLD!!! AND I'VE GOT THE MAN-POWER!!!" Roger refuses, "WHAT GOOD IS A PIRATE IF HE CAN'T DO WHAT HE WANTSI YOU CAN PRESSURE ME ALL YOU WANT, I HAVE NO DESIRE TO RULE, SHIKI!!!"

A massive pirate fleet sails through turbulent seas as a voice demands, "HOW MANY SHIPS DO YOU THINK THERE ARE!I" Another shouts, "STOP IT, CAPTAIN!!" and "OUTTA THE WAY." Close-ups show tense crew members reacting. A circular panel states, "SO YOUR ANSWER." A fierce close-up of a mustached man with a scar growls, "IS THAT YOU WANT TO DIE TODAY!!!I" The reply comes with intense determination: "NO! MY ANSWER IS THAT I'M GOING TO CRUSH YOU ALL!!!" The right side reveals the enormous Golden Lion fleet dominating the waves. A massive speech bubble declares, "BUT I WILL STILL DECLINE YOUR OFFER!!!" Large onomatopoeia "ゴゴゴゴゴゴ" and "ドドドドドド" shake the page alongside the title "GOLDEN LION!!!" and a dramatic impact SFX "ドーン!!!" as the lone ship presses forward against the fleet.

Narration boxes recount the clash: "COMMANDER OF THE LARGEST PIRATE FLEET AROUND, AND GOLD ROGER, WHO WOULD LATER BE KNOWN AS THE PIRATE KING, CAME TO BE KNOWN AS THE BATTLE OF ED WAR." The final box reads, "HALF OF SHIKI'S FLEET SANK..."

In a ship's cabin, a lion-man with a steering wheel lodged in his head says, "IT'S IN THERE PRETTY DEEP. I WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE IT..." A voice replies, "HE MIGHT DIE IF YOU TRY TO REMOVE IT. I SEE..." On deck, a surprised character yells, "THAT'S YOU!!!" while another asks, "HOW IS THE WHEELI" and "OH... DR. INDIGO." The lion-man responds, "HUHI WHAT'S THAT CHICKEN DOING THEREI" Dr. Indigo notes, "ACTUALLY I THINK GETTING A WHEEL STUCK IN YOUR HEAD DURING BATTLE IS PRETTY RARE. I'M SURPRISED YOU ARE STILL ALIVE. OH WELL, THESE THINGS HAPPEN. WELL, THEY DO COMPARE ME TO A LION, AFTER ALL." Narration boxes explain: "THEN HIS CREW MYSTERIOUSLY DISAPPEARED," "ROGER FINALLY DID THE IMPOSSIBLE AND CONQUERED THE GRAND LINE," "AND A YEAR LATER... THEY STARTED TO CALL GOLD ROGER THE PIRATE KING. ABOUT TWO YEARS LATER," ending with a cheerful "TADA!!!" and reactions of "ER..."

Newspapers fly with headlines: "THE WORLD WAS IN SHOCK." and "NEWS OF HIS ARREST BROKE." with cries of "EXTRA!! EXTRA!!" A shocked man with a cannon demands, "YOU KNOW FULL WELL WHAT SORT OF MAN HE IS!!!" Another roars, "DON'T LIE TO ME!!! WHO'S GONNA BELIEVE THAT!!!I" A voice adds, "IT'S A TRUSTWORTHY SOURCE...!!!" The panel shows a port with the Golden Lion ship as someone shouts, "ROGER... CAPTURED!!!I" with an impact "GAH!!" Below, an intruder alert sounds as figures rush: "INTRUDER ALERT!!!" "BOSS!!...WHERE ARE YOU GOING!I" "THEN STOP LYING ABOUT IT!!!" "BOSS! PLEASE CALM DOWN!!" and a panicked "WAHH...!!!"

Crowds of shocked pirates and marines react in panic at Marineford Plaza. "OH!" "!!I" "IS THAT REALLY HIM!I" "HOW MANY ARE THERE!!!" "THE LOCATION IS THE MARINE FORD PLAZA!!" A lone figure stands atop a massive pile of defeated foes, sword drawn, black coat billowing. "I KNOW HOW STRONG HE IS!!!" "PANT" "JUST ONE!!! IT'S... GOLDEN LION!!!" "SCUM LIKE YOU COULD NEVER CAPTURE ROGER!" "PANT" A massive close-up reveals the snarling face of the Golden Lion himself, Shiki, cigar in mouth and eyes blazing. "WE COULDN'T GET ALONG, BUT WE LIVED THROUGH THE SAME AGE!!!" "THE PIRATE KING!I SO WHAT!!! IF HE'D JOINED FORCES WITH ME, WE COULD HAVE TAKEN OVER THE WORLD!!!" "IF HE IS HERE, BRING HIM OUT!!! IF YOU'RE GOING TO KILL HIM, THEN LET ME DO IT!!!"

Shiki continues his rant in Loguetown. "IN LOGUETOWN, THE TOWN OF BEGINNINGS." "IF YOU FOUGHT HIM, HE'D BE ABLE TO WIN AND ESCAPE." "ROGER IS THE PIRATE KING." "ADMIRAL SENGOKU...!!!" Sengoku appears stern. "DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH!!! THAT IS THE WORST HUMILIATION FOR THAT PIECE OF SHIT!" "THE LEGEND OF ROGER THE PIRATE KING... WILL END IN THE WEAKEST OF THE SEAS, EAST BLUE!I" Vice-Admiral Garp stands ready. "HIS EXECUTION IS SCHEDULED FOR A WEEK FROM NOW IN EAST BLUE, WHERE HE WAS BORN." "WILL PROBABLY BREAK THE HEARTS OF MANY PIRATES." "ROGER'S DEATH" Shiki draws his sword in fury, hair whipping wildly. "DON'T INTERFERE WITH THE EXECUTION...!!!" "YOU MAY CALL IT WEAK... BUT EAST BLUE IS A SYMBOL OF PEACE...!!!" Impact lines and debris fly as the confrontation peaks.

Close-ups show Garp, Sengoku, and the Golden Lion glaring with intense expressions. "GARP, SENGOKU, GOLDEN LION" "!!" A wide view reveals the devastated Marineford, buildings half-destroyed, smoke rising, and a massive Marine ship embedded in the rubble. "UNTIL MARINE FORD WAS HALF DESTROYED." "THESE THREE FOUGHT" "AND IN THE END, THE PIRATE GOLDEN LION WAS SENT TO IMPEL DOWN." Onlookers react in horror. "H, HEY... GET THE WOUNDED OUT OF HERE!!" "WHAT THE HELL...I"

A wide ocean vista shows waves and a distant island under dramatic skies. "ONE WEEK LATER, THE GREAT AGE OF PIRATES" "BEGAN WITH GOLD ROGER'S DEATH!!!" A sequence of intense close-ups captures the reactions of pirates: a fanged man with wild hair, a serious dark-haired man, a screaming figure with an eye patch, and a goggled long-nosed man. "GIVING PEOPLE A PREMONITION OF THE TURBULENT TIMES TO COME." "THE NEXT DAY, THE NEWS SPREAD AROUND THE WORLD," A lone woman in a long dress stands by the shore looking out to sea. A hooded man with a straw hat and a serious expression appears, followed by a figure holding a large straw hat. "わああああああ" "ッ!!" "ギャァァァァァァ" "バキッ...!!"

In the wake of Gol D. Roger's execution, people everywhere react to the news. A group of pirates huddles together. "They won't attack us here." "Guess there'll be more pirates, Oimo." Nearby, a woman with curly hair and a stern man with a goatee read a newspaper. "A terrible age has begun." Elsewhere, a grinning man with a cigar asks, "Captain Cricket!! Did you hear Roger left an amazing treasure behind when he diedI" "Roman-tic, isn't it!I" Another man shouts, "Did you hear the news, Tonjit!I" A stilt-walker declares, "Someday I'll be the world stilt's champion." Explosions and chaos erupt as someone yells "WAH!!!" A young woman points and exclaims, "The Great Age of PiratesI Can everyone become a pirate nowI" A small girl warns, "If you're not really strong, you can't join a pirate crew." A frantic mother cries, "Oh my!! What on earth!!I This child is cursed!! It's the curse of the age of pirates!!" while a baby laughs, "Goo goo gaga! Goo goo gaga!" In the background, a man in a top hat rallies others: "We must become strong!!! Stronger than justice!!!" The world erupts into excitement and fear as the Great Age of Pirates dawns.

News spreads to Impel Down's Level 6. Prisoners react wildly to the announcement that Gol D. Roger left behind a massive treasure. "Wow! Wow!" "The Pirate King left behind a huge treasure when he died!!" "Did you hear the big news!I" A massive prisoner roars, "A new age has begun!!" Another yells, "The sea belongs to pirates now!!!" From inside a cell, a voice asks, "Why did you die, RogerI" The prisoners grow frantic: "We've gotta get out!! Right now...!!!" "The age of pirates is here!!!" The scene shifts to a close-up of a bloodied, bandaged prisoner with a massive mustache and horns. He growls, "...A new age...!I" then shouts, "Pirates rule the seas...!!! Someday I'll make you see that..." before sneering, "Ridiculous......All you selfish idiots out there looking for treasure will only get in the way...!!!"

Two years after Roger's death, the myth of Impel Down's invincibility crumbles. Alarms blare as guards shout, "Shiki the Golden Lion has escaped!!! But he is still somewhere inside!!!" "Chief!! There's trouble!!" A prisoner lies on the floor with severed feet. Guards panic: "He cut off his own feet...!!!" "No, sir! He did not remove the shackles...!!!" "Did he find a way to remove the seastone shackles!I" A swordsman with a topknot and striped shirt appears, asking, "Have you seen my two swords...I They're both famous. Oto and Kogarashi." He laughs, "Hahahaha..." as he charges forward. Guards yell, "We can't let him get away!!!" "We have to find him!!!" The swordsman declares, "It's time for a promotion!! Oh!! I mean, it's Shiki!!!" while running through the prison corridors.

Shiki grins wildly as he escapes. "Thanks for the past two years." A guard screams, "Deputy Magellan!! Shiki's here! Help!!!" Shiki replies, "Sorry, but I'm going to have to leave...!!! Don't need my feet, though... You can have them." A dramatic narration box states: "Shiki escaped!!!" and continues, "Pirate Fleet Admiral Shiki, the 'golden lion' becomes the first prisoner involved to escape from Impel Down." It adds, "And so though the pirates' fangs had been broken once, the golden lion broke out of his cell and once more returned to the seas." Shiki laughs triumphantly, "Hahaha!!!" as he runs, while a guard pants, "Hahaha... Pant... Pant... OK... Now I have legs." The final panel shows an explosion and a scream, "AHHHHHH!!!"

Garp sits with a serious expression, holding a Den Den Mushi as he speaks with Sengoku. "WE'D BETTER BE CAREFUL... HE'S A DANGEROUS MAN." "YEAH, I HEARD." "BUT HE WON'T MAKE A MOVE JUST YET. HE LIKES TO BE THOROUGHLY PREPARED." Sengoku replies from afar, "BUT IT'S THE GOLDEN LION SENGOKU HERE. SORRY TO INTERRUPT YOUR VACATION, GARP..." In a separate scene, young Ace crawls wildly while Makino and a man with glasses react in panic. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING CRAWLING, BRAT!I COME BACK HERE, ACE!!" "AH! AH! HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO THE MOUNTAIN! MAKINO! WHERE'S GARPI" An older woman with curly hair watches from afar, thinking, "OH, THAT'S ODD. COULD IT BE TRAVELLERS...I" Inside a building, a young girl named Kuina sits with two others as the woman notes, "I'D HOPED THIS CHILD WOULD BE ABLE TO TAKE OVER THE DOJO... BUT IT'S A GIRL..." "OH, DON'T WORRY. KUINA WILL BE STRONG." Suddenly Garp bursts in with a huge grin, startling the girl. "ACE-CHAN!! IT'S GRANDPA GARP!!" "AH! AH!...SAN, YOU'RE BACK! OH!! GARP!!"

Bellemere smiles while holding a rifle, speaking with young Nami and Nojiko. "IF HE COMES TO EAST BLUE, I'LL GIVE IT TO HIM!" "I HEARD SHIKI ESCAPED...!!!" "THE GOING... MERRY... YES...!!!" "I'D LOVE TO BUILD THIS SHIP SOMEDAY." "I ASKED A MAN NAMED YASOPP TO COME." "HAHAHA! WE CAN ALWAYS COUNT ON YOU, BELLEMERE!" "HE... HE SAID THAT'S SHANKS'S CREW." Elsewhere, a scientist-like man with goggles panics amid explosions and bubbles. "DAMN! ANOTHER FAILED EXPERIMENT!!" "MY KID'S BLOWING BUBBLES!!!" "HE DID IT AGAIN...!!!" A large man with a mustache reacts to news of the Golden Lion. "THEY CALL HIM THE FLYING PIRATE. THE GOLDEN LION, EH...I" In a city street, young Robin stands nervously. "PANT... PANT... SHE'S JUST A KID, BUT SHE'S GOT A BOUNTY OF 70,900,000 BERRIES ON HER HEAD...!!! NICO ROBIN'S HERE!I" A tall man with a mustache and a dark-haired man in a coat discuss her. "YES... THIS IS TOUGH!! 42 DEGREES IS HARD!!" "BINKS'S SAKE...♪" "OH!! I FARTED!! YOHOHOHO!" A man with a headband apologizes, "SORRY, LABOON. I SAILED ON ROGER'S SHIP AND SEARCHED FOR THEM... BUT THERE'S NO SIGN OF THE RUMBA PIRATES..." A massive sea creature attacks a lighthouse. Elsewhere, a man asks, "HE'S INSIDE. DO YOU WANT SOME JUICEI" "IS RAYLEIGH HEREI" "SURE." "OH, HELLO, HATCHAN." A woman named Shakky appears as a man crashes through the ceiling. "NYUUUUU!! I'M HERE, SHAKKY!"

Rayleigh smiles slightly while speaking to Shiki. "SO YOU GOT OUT, SHIKI..." "RAYLEIGHI" "BUT WHAT DO YOU PLAN TO DO NOW...I" In a grand hall, Whitebeard lounges with a bottle. "I'LL DROWN YOU RIGHT HERE AND NOW, GOLDEN LION." "IF YOU JUST CAME HERE TO SPOUT YOUR NONSENSE, IT'S YOUR AGE NOW, WHITEBEARD..." "SO WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE WORLD WITHOUT ROGERI THERE ARE NO WALLS TO HOLD US IN ANYMORE." "HAHAHA, I SEE YOU'RE ANNOYING AS ALWAYS. THAT PUTS MY MIND AT EASE." A man with a scar questions, "ARE YOU PLOTTING SOMETHING AGAIN...I" Blackbeard grins widely. "AND THEN I'LL SHOW PEOPLE WHAT A REAL PIRATE IS LIKE." "I THINK I'LL LIE LOW FOR A WHILE..." The final panel shows the One Piece logo and chapter end text.

High above the clouds, a narration box reads: MERVIE, A CLOUDY, UNEXPLORED MOUNTAIN ON THE GRAND LINE. In the misty jungle below, Dr. Indigo stands among bizarre plants and creatures, raising one hand as he reports, "I'VE MADE ONE DISCOVERY... THERE ARE MANY THAT AREN'T FOUND ELSEWHERE... IT APPEARS THERE'S A BALANCE BETWEEN THE PLANTS AND ANIMALS HERE." A furious voice snaps from the shadows, "GET TO THE POINT, INDIGO!! HOW LONG WILL MY PLAN TAKEI" Dr. Indigo continues explaining the unique ecosystem while a massive, fanged beast looms nearby. The cloaked figure's face fills a close-up panel, eyes narrowed, declaring, "ALL RIGHT, WE'LL CARRY OUT MY PLAN IN TWENTY YEARS!!! AND THEN I WILL SHOW THEM HELL ON EARTH!!!" A small inset states, "AND SO TWENTY YEARS PASSED... THIS IS WHERE IT ALL BEGAN!!" In the final panel the cloaked man walks away through the trees as a quiet reply drifts after him: "...OK..."
