In East Blue: Goa Kingdom, Fuschia Village, a Marine battleship approaches the shore. Villagers react in shock as Garp stands tall in the foreground. I JUST SANK A PIRATE SHIP OUT IN THE WATERS NEARBY AS I ARRIVED." Another panel shows Garp learning "...AND THEY'VE TAKEN OVER MAKINO'S BAR!!" as bandits appear. A large sign reads "GUARD STATION" and "MARINE HQ VICE-ADMIRAL GARP". Villagers react with "AAHH!! THAT'S SO REASSURING, ALL RIGHT!!" while bandits cause chaos. Garp turns sharply as someone yells "OI, GARP!!!" and "STOP!! YOU MUSTN'T!!".

YOU WERE RIGHT THERE IN THE THICK OF IT ALL!!!" The bandit leader continues her assault, "AND YOU CALL YOURSELF A MARINE HERO!! CURL UP AND DIE, YOU WORTHLESS OLD FART!!!" while striking Garp repeatedly. Garp retorts, "WELL, GARPI! DO YOU VALUE YOUR WORK OVER YOUR FAMILYI!I!" as Makino rushes in, shouting "STOP IT, DADAN-SAN!!" and "MAKINO..." A voice pleads, "NOW, NOW... THAT'S ENOUGH, BOSS...!!" while impact sounds and "DROP" punctuate the chaos.

Makino stands in shock, whispering "NO..." as the scene shifts to a young woman and child. A close-up shows a tearful woman shouting, "THIS MUST BE HARDER ON HIM THAN ANY OF US!!! GARP-SAN SAW THE WHOLE AFFAIR HAPPEN RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM, AND STILL COULDN'T DO A THING TO SAVE THEM...!!!" Villagers react with "NO, NO, NO, THAT'S FAR TOO IMPOLITE!" "WHO THE HELL ARE YOUI" "MY NAME'S ACE!!" and "THE ONE THIS'LL BE HARDEST ON... IS LUFFY...!!!" Young Luffy and Ace appear, with Makino calling "MAKINO! YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW MUCH HE LOVED THAT BROTHER OF HIS..." while Luffy and Ace stand nearby, one saying "AHAHA...! THAT'S STILL NO GOOD. ARE YOU ACTUALLY TRYING...I!" and "...AND WHAT DO YOU CALL YOURSELF, RUFFIANI JUST SAY 'AND WHO'RE YOUI'" Sound effects like "PEKO..." and "NO" fill the panels.

I WAS SHOCKED TO HEAR ABOUT ACE'S FINAL ACTIONS..." A close-up shows a scarred man with intense eyes declaring, "DON'T BE AFRAID TO CRY...!!! MAKE IT THROUGH THIS!!! IT'S THROUGH KNOWING BOTH VICTORY AND DEFEAT, WINNING WILD AND SHEDDING TEARS, THAT A MAN TRULY GROWS UP."

A volcanic island rises from the sea under the label "THE CALM BELT: ISLE OF WOMEN." Luffy's anguished scream erupts: "AAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH!!!" He cries, "...I'M STILL SO WEAK!!! I CAN'T PROTECT A SINGLE THING!!!" SFX of impacts and shaking echo across the island. In a jungle clearing, a bandaged figure carrying Luffy pants heavily (*PANT*) as Luffy shouts, "... LUFFY-KUN..." The bandaged man pleads while Luffy struggles, "LEAVE ME ALONE!!! GO AWAY...!!!" More *PANT* sounds fill the air as Luffy thrashes against the grip.

Luffy yells in rage, "IT'S MY BODY!!! I CAN DO WHAT I LIKE!!!" while striking wildly. The bandaged man (Jinbe) restrains him, saying, "I'M AFRAID THAT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE... I CANNOT STAND TO SEE YOU INJURE YOURSELF ANY FURTHER." Luffy's face twists in fury as he retorts, "IF THAT WILL HELP TO CALM YOU, THEN PLEASE, FEEL FREE..." only for Luffy to scream, "...SHUT UP!!! YOU SAY ANOTHER WORD AND I'LL PUNCH YOUR FACE IN!!!" Jinbe counters, "...IN THAT CASE, ACE-SAN'S BODY TOO BELONGED TO HIM ALONE. IT WAS HIS OWN CHOICE WHETHER TO LIVE OR DIE." Luffy continues thrashing with *GRIP!* sounds and impact effects as Jinbe holds firm, declaring, "I TOO AM WOUNDED, BUT I WILL NOT BE DEFEATED BY YOU IN THIS STATE...!!!"

Luffy unleashes a furious barrage of punches, roaring "NGHH HHHHHHHH...!!!" with massive impact SFX. The bandaged man endures the assault. The scene shifts to a forest clearing where the exhausted bandaged figure sets Luffy down amid *PANT* sounds. Luffy sits panting, "...!!" while the man catches his breath (*COUGH*). Luffy remains on the ground, visibly drained, as the struggle concludes.

Luffy, heavily chained in a dark stone cell, recalls meeting his little brother again after three years in the Kingdom of Alabasta. He speaks of his journey to track down Teach. Jinbe stands nearby with a serious expression. Luffy smiles faintly and says, "THE INSTANT I SAW HIM... I FELT SO RELIEVED." A sudden punch lands as Luffy shouts, "THAT HURT...!!!" The attacker yells, "YOU LITTLE BRAT!!!" Luffy growls back with a fierce glare while Jinbe reacts with shock, "NGH HHHH HH!!!" and grunts of pain echo through the fight.

Luffy, bandaged and furious, roars, "YOUR OWN GREAT STRENGTH, WHICH YOU NEVER DOUBTED FOR AN INSTANT!!!" and "THAT BRIMMING CONFIDENCE WHICH LED YOU TO BELIEVE YOU COULD OVERCOME ANY OBSTACLE...!!!" Jinbe kicks him hard, shouting, "ARE YOU NO LONGER ABLE TO SEE ANYTHING AT ALLI!" Luffy is sent flying. Narration describes the brother who was always his guiding light and the enemies who shattered his beliefs. Luffy is engulfed by dark clouds of self-condemnation as Jinbe warns, "YOU ARE ALLOWING THAT MIGHTY OBSTACLE KNOWN AS THE WORLD TO BLOCK OUT YOUR ENTIRE FIELD OF VISION!"

Jinbe shouts, "STOP COUNTING ONLY THOSE THINGS THAT YOU HAVE LOST!!!" and urges Luffy to silence his doubts. Luffy stares in shock, asking, "...THAT STILL REMAINS TO YOUI!" and "WHAT IS GONE, IS GONE!!!" Jinbe continues, "SO ASK YOURSELF THIS!! WHAT IS THERE..." Luffy's expression shifts as memories surface. He begins to realize something, sweat and tears forming while Jinbe pants heavily nearby.

Luffy's face fills with tears and snot as he breaks down, overwhelmed. Behind him, images of his crew appear: Zoro with a stern look, Nami smiling, Usopp grinning, Sanji, Chopper, Robin, Franky, and Brook. Luffy cries out with a trembling voice, "I STILL HAVE MY FRIENDS!"

Luffy sits alone on a rocky outcrop, knees drawn up. He recalls, "...THERE'S A PLACE... WHERE WE ALL DECIDED TO MEET UP." and "...THAT'S WHERE I HAVE TO GO..." A massive spread shows the devastated ruins of Marineford as Luffy shouts the names of his missing crew: "CHOPPER!! ROBIN!! FRANKY!! BROOKE!!!" "ZORO!! NAMI!!!! USOPP!! SANJI!!" and "I STILL HAVE... ALL OF YOU!!!" A small panel shows him thinking, "I see..." Below, silhouettes stand on a staircase as voices discuss Jinbe: "I'M SURE HE'LL CAUSE YOU ALL KINDS OF TROUBLE, BUT..." "WHEN YOU'VE GOT A HOPELESS LITTLE BROTHER LIKE HIM... IT MAKES A GUY WORRY." Luffy's face fills the final panel as he says, "TAKE GOOD CARE OF HIM."

Luffy's face shows relief as he thinks, "...I FELT SO RELIEVED. THAT'S WHY..." He remembers his crew: "...A CREW OF WONDERFUL FRIENDS." "HE HAD FOUND HIMSELF..." "...THE LUFFY WHO I REMEMBERED, THE KID WHO DID NOTHING BUT TAG ALONG AND HIDE BEHIND MY BACK..." "...WAS NOWHERE LEFT TO BE SEEN...!!" A small scene shows a cloaked figure saying, "I WANT TO SEE THEM..." and reacting "WHEW...!!!" Luffy smiles, thinking, "SO NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, HE'LL BE OKAY." The page erupts into a massive double-page spread of a volcanic island rising from the sea as Luffy cries out, "I WANT TO SEE THEM AGAIN...!!!!!!"
