THE FLYING FISH RIDERS

Sanji spins wildly with hearts in his eyes, shouting, "AH, MERMAIDS!! EVERY MAN'S DREAM!! THE JEWELS OF THE SEA!! AND I FINALLY FOUND ONE~~~!!!" Large SFX: "あっはっはっは". Camie the mermaid blushes nearby with hearts floating around her. Sanji continues, "MER~~~MAIDS~~~!!!" In the next panel Sanji kneels dramatically, apologizing, "I'M SORRY, SANJI!! FORGET I EVER SAID ANYTHING!!" while thinking about Thriller Bark. Brook sits and asks, "HEY! AREN'T YOU FORGETTING ABOUT GRANNY KOKOROI" Luffy stands watching as Camie introduces herself. Nami sits nearby. Franky comments, "YOU'RE THE FIRST MERMAID I'VE EVER MET!! YOU SAID YOUR NAME WAS CAMIE-CHANI" Camie replies cutely. Later, an older man with a turban says, "OH, YOU DIDN'T KNOWI I GUESS THERE WASN'T ENOUGH TIME TO MENTION IT EARLIER..." Luffy reacts in shock, "EH!I YOU MEAN GRANNY KOKORO WAS A MERMAIDI! BUT SHE WALKED ON TWO FEET!!"

Brook points at Camie and declares, "BUT CAMIE IS PRETTY CUTE. ACTUALLY, THIS IS MY FIRST TIME MEETING A MERMAID, TOO!" Nami and a blonde girl stand nearby. Luffy punches Sanji hard, yelling, "YOU'RE JUST DOWNRIGHT RUDE!!! IT'S GROSS THINKING THAT GRANNY WAS A MERMAID." Sanji protests, "STOP SCARING THE POOR GIRL!! GET LOST!!" Brook retorts, "A SKELE-TON!!" while opening his skull, "I CAN OPEN UP MY HEAD, NEAT, HUHI" Luffy demands, "WHAT FOR!!I" Brook begs, "SAY, COULD YOU SPARE ME SOME CASHI" Sanji screams in agony, "DON'T SAY IIIIIIIIT!!!" while the group reacts in shock. Luffy asks excitedly, "WHAT THE HELL KIND OF A QUESTION IS THAT!I" Brook questions, "HEY, DO MERMAIDS POOPI" Nami snaps, "SHE GOT OVER THAT QUICK... THAT'S SO FUNNY!!"

The crew gathers on the deck of the Thousand Sunny. Brook kneels dramatically, saying, "BECAUSE IT IS ME... THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE...... APART FROM YOUR CIRCLE OF FUN, OH, WHAT MIGHT IT BEI CAMIE, CAMIE... IS SOMETHING WRONGI SOMETHING UNNOTICED FOR FAR TOO LONGI" Camie looks surprised. Nami apologizes to Camie, "SORRY, I TOTALLY FORGOT!!" Luffy grabs the starfish-like creature on Camie's head, complaining, "WHAT IS THIS TALKING GLOVE THING!I OH YEAH, THIS HAS BEEN BUGGING ME THE WHOLE TIME, CAMIE!" The starfish, Pappug, explains, "WHY AM I UNDER HER CAREI I DON'T MIND IF I SHARE. ARE STARFISH... SUPPOSED TO TALKI AND A STARFISH! HE'S ALSO MY MASTER... THIS IS MY PET, "PAPPUG." Camie adds, "CAMIE'S CLAMS, YOU SEE, ALWAYS GO RIGHT TO ME! SO IT'S THE FOOD."

Pappagg the starfish sings while strumming a guitar: "'CUZ I'VE GOT PLENTY OF HANDS~TOO~ SPAAAARE! ♪" Nearby voices question his identity: "THAT'S CRAZY-HARD WORK, DUDE! OH NO, NOT AT ALLI" "YOU'RE NOT A HU-MANI I MAY NOT BE HU-MAN BUT I AM A STAR-FISHI" "YO, YOU'RE A HU-MANI I MAY BE A STAR-FISH BUT I'M NOT A HU-MAN..." A footnote explains the Japanese pun on "hitode." In a flashback scene, Pappagg declares, "THE DESIGN IS PAPPAGG! I WANNA BE A DESIGNER SOMEDAY, TOO!!" and "IT'S SUPER POPULAR BACK ON FISHMAN ISLAND!...AND YEAH, SO THIS T-SHIRT IS THE 'CRIMINAL' BRAND." Someone shouts, "THAT'S YOUR CUE TO LAUGH!!" and "THANK YOU!!!" Luffy exclaims, "NEVER UNDERESTIMATE 'WILL POWER'!!" as Pappagg replies, "SO IT WAS SOME KIND OF BIG ACCIDENTI" "THE WORLD RUNS ON IT, KID!!" Pappagg continues, "BUT WHEN I FINALLY LEARNED THE TRUTH, I HAD ALREADY LEARNED TO TALK!" and "GOOD OF YOU TO ASK! WHEN I WAS LITTLE, I THOUGHT I WAS A HUMAN!" Someone asks, "SO, WHY CAN YOU TALK, ANYWAYI"

Pappagg shouts excitedly, "I'M AN UP-AND-COMING DESIGNER!! THANKS FOR SAVING ME! I LOVE YOU ALL!" and "AND THERE YOU HAVE IT! I'M THE STARFISH, PAPPAGG!!" Nami responds, "ACTUALLY, THE TIMING COULDN'T BE BETTER. WE'RE KINDA AT A LOSS FOR DIRECTIONS." "WE'D LIKE TO ASK IF..." A sign identifies "Pappagg the starfish (The 'Criminal' brand designer)." In another scene, Nami says, "I'M SORRY, I GOT LOST... WHERE ARE YOU NOWI" as a voice answers, "HI, HACCHIN! IT'S CAMIE!" Someone warns, "OH, RIGHT! YOUR TAKOYAKI REWARD... THEN LET'S SEE IF HACCHIN CAN MEET UP WITH US." "TIME OUT, NAMI!! THE TAKOYAKI COMES FIRST!!" A skull-faced figure appears with "HACCHINI" and sound effects "だぁー!!" while Luffy and others react with surprise.

A ship sails near rocky cliffs as a voice calls, "OH, IT'S YOU, CAMIEI MOHAHAHA... DON'TCHA KNOW WHO I AMI THIS AIN'T HACCHI!" and "...I" In the next panels, Nami asks, "HEY! WHY DO YOU HAVE HACCHIN'S DEN DEN MUSHI, ANYWAY!I" while a crewmate notes, "SEEMS LIKE THERE'S TROUBLE." A fishman declares, "IT'S ME, MAKURO!! Y'KNOW, THE BLOCKHEAD WHO VISITS ALL THE TIME FOR THE MAKURO CREWI" The group reacts in shock: "EEEH!I YOU'RE NOT HACCHIN!!I" "AW, CRAP! I JUST INSULTED MYSELF!!" with sound effects "うっ" and "ビリッ." Below, the fishman laughs, "YEAH, I GUESS. IF IT HAD BEEN LIKE USUAL, THEN WE PROBABLY WOULDN'T HAVE WON. BUT THIS TIME, WE HAD HELP FROM THE 'FLYING FISH RIDERS'! MOHA-MOHAHA!" Someone shouts, "LIAR!! HACCHIN WOULD NEVER LOSE TO YOU CREEPS!" as the crew stands on a dock with a large structure nearby.

Hatchan struggles, "NGH... ONCE I GET MY STRENGTH BACK, I'LL CAP THESE GUYS AND FIND YOU..." while a fishman threatens, "I... WAS OFF-GUARD... DON'T COME LOOKING FOR ME." Camie cries out, "AAH!! HACCHIN!! THEY REALLY GOT YOU!I" and "NGH... CAMIE... YOU'RE SAFEI THANK GOODNESS..." with sound "GACHI." The fishman announces, "WE'RE AT THE SHABONDY ARCHIPELAGO, IN THE SEA 5 KILOMETERS TO THE EAST OF GROVE #44." "WANNA SAVE HIMI GIVE IT YOUR BEST SHOT!" "YOU KNOW HOW RARE OCTOPUS FISHMEN ARE!!" "MOHAHAHAHA!! WE'RE GONNA SELL HIM FOR SERIOUS CASH, CAMIE!" Camie pleads, "HACCHIN... DON'T COME..." as the group reacts with alarm. Sound effects include "GAH", "CAN IT, CALAMARI!!", "BLAM!!", and "SMELL YA LATER!" The fishman warns, "IT'S THE HIDEOUT OF THE TERRIBLE KIDNAPPERS, THE 'FLYING FISH RIDERS'!!!"

Nami stands with a troubled expression, sweat dropping as she thinks, "SOUNDED VAGUELY FAMILIAR...... WAIT A MINUTE. THAT VOICE, WHICH WAS SUPPOSEDLY HACCHIN'S...... NO, IT CAN'T BE. IT MUST BE MY IMAGINATION." Luffy suddenly shouts with wide eyes, "WEREN'T YOU PAYING ATTENTION!I SO, WHERE'S THE TAKOYAKII" while Hatchan flails in the background. Camie the mermaid pleads, "I HAVE TO GO SAVE MY FRIEND!! I'M SO SORRY! THE TAKOYAKI WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR LATER!" A suited man warns, "I DON'T MEAN TO STICK MY NECK WHERE IT DOESN'T BELONG, BUT IF YOU'RE GOING TO GO SAVE YOUR FRIEND, THEN LET US HELP YOU OUT." Camie turns in surprise as someone says, "HOLD ON, CAMIE. WHAT!I" Nami points upward with a grin and asks, "EH!I YOU REALLY MEAN IT, NAMI-CHINI" The group discusses directions: "HOW WE CAN GET TO FISHMAN ISLANDI IN EXCHANGE, HOW ABOUT YOU TELL US..." The fishman leader growls, "WHAT ABOUT YOU!I" before correcting himself, "I MEANT TO SAY THAT THEY'LL HELP YOU OUT. AH, CORRECTION."

Luffy yells excitedly from the deck, "WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY SO!I ALL HANDS ON DECK!! WE'RE GOING TO SAVE OUR TAKOYAKI, EVEN IF IT KILLS US!" The crew responds with a loud "AYE AYE!!" Nami explains, "HE'S THE OWNER OF THE TAKOYAKI STAND I WORK AT!" while asking, "OKAY, BUT WHO'S HACCHIN, ANYWAYI WILL YOU HELP ME RESCUE HACCHIN, LUFFY-CHINI" A map panel shows the route: "IT'S ABOUT 5 KM OUT FROM THE REST OF THE ARCHIPELAGO, SO LET'S START HEADING WEST. WE'LL RUN INTO IT IF WE SAIL IN A STRAIGHT LINE TO THE SHABONDY ISLANDS. GROVE #44 IS THE ISLAND FARTHEST EAST IN THE ARCHIPELAGO." Camie lounges and says, "THAT MEANS OKAY! YOU KNOW THE PLACEI" She suddenly shouts, "HEL-LOOOOO!!" waving her arms as the fish respond with swirling sounds. The group agrees, "LET'S HURRY! OKAY, SOUNDS GOOD!"

The Thousand Sunny sails through rough waves as schools of fish leap alongside it. Luffy points and asks, "CAN YOU SHOW US THE WAYI" while Usopp exclaims from above, "WOW, TONS OF FISH POPPED OUT OF THE WATER!" SFX show fish splashing with "PACHA" and "CHAPON." Close-ups capture fish reacting with swirling motion lines and exclamation marks. Sanji leans on the railing and questions, "BUT HOW WILL THEY FOLLOW US IF THEY'RE UNDERWATERI" Luffy stares in amazement, "AMAZING! YOU CAN TALK TO FISH!I SO MERMAIDS REALLY CAN DO THAT AFTER ALL..." Nami adds, "SO THEY'LL ONLY LEAD US UNTIL WE'RE HALFWAY THERE. THEY SAY THE FLYING FISH RIDERS ARE SCARY." Sanji snaps at Luffy, "ZIP YOUR LIPS, OR ELSE YOU CAN SWIM WITH THEM!" Camie smiles confidently as the crew watches the fish guide them.

Luffy leans over the Sunny's railing with hearts in his eyes, shouting, "BRA-VO, MS. MERMAID-!!" while a fishman crewmate panics, "I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING!! THE FISH ARE..." Luffy throws his arms up yelling, "YA-HOO!!" Massive fish leap from the water with dramatic impact lines. A wide splash panel shows an arrow striking the sea surface with bold SFX "どっ!!" and motion effects. From the deck, the crew cheers wildly: "THREE CHEERS FOR CAMIE!!" Nami raises her fist as Luffy and others celebrate. Camie smiles and says, "AWESOME! ALL WE NEED TO DO IS TRAVEL THAT WAY, HUHI" The fish continue leaping around the ship as the group heads toward Grove #44.

On the deck of the Thousand Sunny, Zoro stands with a serious expression and asks, "DOES THIS MEAN WE'VE FOUND A WAY TO MERMAID ISLANDI" as the ship cuts through the waves. "WE'VE SET SAILI" he adds. Robin grips the helm and declares, "ALL RIGHT!! LEAVE THE HELM TO ME! STEER US AT 4 O'CLOCK." Franky laughs from the upper deck, "BEHEHE... THERE'S NO NEED. I STILL HAVE A LOT TO LEARN. NO, THIS IS INCREDIBLE!!" Below, Franky stares in shock at the memory-erased Hachi and shouts, "HE ERASED IT!! HE ACTUALLY ERASED THE MEMORY!! YOU'RE THE FIRST ONE I'VE EVER MET." Camie the mermaid waves cheerfully beside Luffy and Sanji, saying "NICE TO MEET YOU!!" Luffy grins and exclaims, "HM...I A MERMAIDI YEAH, KINDA. HEY, LOOK, ZORO, THIS IS CAMIE THE MERMAID! SHE'S THE REAL THING, AND SHE'S AMAZING!!" In the lower panels Luffy stands with arms crossed facing Hachi, who sweats nervously. Luffy says, "UH, YEAH. WE'RE STRONG." Hachi replies, "BUT ARE YOU SURE YOU GUYS ARE ABLE TO HANDLE THISI MORE IMPORTANTLY, YOU GUYS OFFERED TO HELP WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT. THEY MUST HAVE DONE SOMETHING TERRIBLE TO HIM. HE'S A TOUGH GUY, SO EVERYTHING WILL BE ALL RIGHT. I CAN'T HELP BUT WORRY... HACCHIN'S VOICE SOUNDED SO WEAK..."

Hachi continues explaining the danger while standing with Luffy and Sanji. "YOU CAN EARN A PRETTY PENNY TRADING HUMANS AROUND HERE. THEY TRADE HUMANSI HOW TERRIBLE," he says. A skeleton in a top hat warns, "I SHOULD WARN YOU THAT THESE PARTS ARE HOME TO PLENTY OF KIDNAPPERS. THE SHABONDY ARCHIPELAGO IS HOME TO DOZENS OF GANGS JUST LIKE THEM!" Luffy listens intently. Hachi adds, "SINCE CAMIE AND I WERE EATEN BY THAT SEA MONSTER AND DIDN'T MAKE IT BACK IN TIME, HE MOST LIKELY ASSUMED THAT IT WAS THE MAKURO GANG AND WENT TO PICK A FIGHT WITH THEM. AND AS FOR HACHI, THE OWNER OF THE TAKOYAKI SHOP... SINCE MERMAIDS FETCH AN ESPECIALLY HIGH PRICE, THE MAKURO GANG, MADE UP OF THREE FISHMEN, IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR A WAY TO CATCH CAMIE." Sanji smokes thoughtfully and says, "... IF IT WERE HIM, THEN I WOULDN'T BOTHER TO HELP... IT'S NOT LIKE THERE'S ANY CHANCE IT COULD ACTUALLY BE HIM, THOUGH." Franky looks at a wanted poster and mutters, "IS STARTING TO REMIND ME ABOUT A CERTAIN FISHMAN WE RAN INTO BEFORE... ALL THIS TALK ABOUT 'HACHI' AND 'OCTOPUS'..." Camie cries, "YEAH, YOU'RE RIGHT... HACCHIN IS SUCH A NICE AND HONEST GUY. IT'S ALL MY FAULT."

Franky explains the situation to the crew. "WHO SUDDENLY STARTED CAUSING ALL SORTS OF TROUBLE AROUND HERE. THEY'RE A BUNCH OF KIDNAPPING THUGS... THEY SAY THAT ONCE YOU'VE BEEN TARGETED, YOU'RE A COMPLETE GONER..." Usopp gestures while speaking. Sanji asks, "BUT SINCE THE 'FLYING FISH RIDERS' WERE INVOLVED, THE STORY'S DIFFERENT... UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES, THERE'S NO DOUBT HACHI WOULD HAVE WALLOPED THOSE GUYS... WHO ARE THEYI" Hachi sweats and replies, "THEY'RE LED BY 'DUVAL,' SOME GUY WITH AN IRON MASK! NO ONE KNOWS WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE." A wide shot shows the Flying Fish Riders' ship speeding across the sea. Franky notes, "BUT IT SEEMS HE'S SEARCHING FOR SOMEONE. THEY SAY HE'S ACTUALLY CHECKING EVERY SHIP THAT PASSES THROUGH HERE." Brook plays his guitar and sings, "GLADLY~!! HEY, BROOK! THAT'S YOUR CUE! SING HER A SONG TO CHEER HER UP! THANK YOU VERY MUCH... WE'LL SAVE THE TAKOYAKI SHOP, FOR SURE!!" Luffy smiles at Camie and says, "ANYWAY, CAMIE! YOU MEAN THE SHOP'S OWNER, I HOPE."

The Thousand Sunny sails across open water with music notes in the air. Suddenly a school of flying fish bursts from the waves, shouting, "THE FISH ARE SAYING, 'THIS IS AS FAR AS WE GO.'" Camie gasps, "WHAT HAPPENED, CAMIEI EH!I" as the fish swarm past. Luffy yells from the railing, "NO, NOT IN THE SEA--!! IN THE SKY!!" The crew looks up in shock as the Flying Fish Riders descend from above. "WHERE!I I DON'T SEE ANYBODY!!" someone shouts. "UWA!! HERE THEY COME!! IT'S THE FLYING FISH RIDERS!!" The riders on their flying fish mounts close in on the Sunny, weapons ready.

High above the sea, members of the Flying Fish Riders soar on their massive flying fish mounts, engines roaring as they streak through the sky with dramatic motion lines. One rider grips his controls tightly while another shouts in alarm. Below, the Thousand Sunny rocks violently as the crew reacts to the sudden aerial assault. Luffy clings to the railing, yelling "UWAAA AAH!!!" as the ship pitches. A crewmate cries out "WHOA! THE FISH ARE FLYING!!" while another exclaims "FLYING FISH!I THEY CAN FLY THAT HIGH!I" The fish riders dive closer, their mounts leaving trails of spray and speed lines.

The Thousand Sunny is under siege as flying fish zip past the ship. Crew members shout warnings: "WATCH OUT! THOSE FISH..." and "THAT WAS A CLOSE ONE!!" One yells "ARE ABLE TO FLY FOR 5 MINUTES ONCE THEY POP OUT OF THE SURFACE!!" while another warns "THEY'RE COMING AROUND!!" Duval, riding a large fish, points forward and declares "YEAH!! IT'S THE STRAWHAT CREW, WITHOUT A DOUBT!!" A subordinate calls out "TELL THE BOSS!! ROGER!!" Luffy appears on deck, grinning fiercely as he grips his hat. Duval's men discuss their target: "WE ONLY CAME FOR THE MERMAID, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE WE'VE HIT THE JACKPOT!" The fish riders close in with aggressive speed lines and impact effects.

The scene shifts to the Flying Fish Riders' Hideout, a fortified island base flying their flag. Subordinates report to Duval: "IS ON BOARD A PIRATE SHIP RIGHT NOW. THAT MERMAID YOU LURED OUT..." Duval reacts with shock "EH!I CAMIE'S ON A PIRATE SHIP!I" and "YES, SIR DUVAL!I" He then snarls orders: "LISTEN UP, MAKURO GANG..." Later panels show Duval aboard his fish, eyes blazing with hatred as he declares "AT LONG LAST... THE VERY SHIP... I'VE LONGED FOR IN AGONY!! THE MAN WHO RUINED MY LIFE... WILL PAY WITH HIS OWN!!" His face twists in rage beneath his helmet as the ship approaches.
