Small round birds perch along the railing beside him. Behind Luffy stands a short-haired swordsman holding a sheathed sword, looking toward the horizon as a small bird perches on the hilt.

Far out at sea, a small boat drifts under scattered clouds. A large speech bubble declares, "I'M STARVING!" Inside the boat, Luffy and Zoro sit facing each other. Luffy says, "NO, DRIFTING HAS WORKED PRETTY WELL FOR ME." Zoro replies, "DON'T YOU THINK IT'S STRANGE THAT YOU CAN'T NAVIGATEI" Zoro continues, "BUT I COULDN'T FIND MY WAY BACK TO MY VILLAGE. I FOLLOWED A PIRATE I WAS AFTER OUT TO SEA." Luffy answers, "I DON'T RECALL EVER CALLING MYSELF THAT." Zoro points at him and shouts, "WHAT ABOUT YOUI YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE THE HOLY TERROR OF THE SEAS!"

Zoro snaps, "YOU DON'T HAVE TO PUT IT LIKE THAT!" Luffy retorts, "HMPH! SO YOU GOT LOSTI" Zoro explains, "I HAD TO EARN MONEY SOMEHOW... SO I MADE THE BEST OF THINGS. I WENT AFTER PIRATES THAT WERE IN THE AREA." On the ship's deck, Zoro sits with arms crossed while Luffy crouches nearby. Zoro warns, "AT THIS RATE, WE'LL NEVER MAKE IT TO THE GRAND LINE. WE'VE GOT TO RECRUIT A NAVIGATOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE." He adds, "ANYWAY, WHAT KIND OF A PIRATE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO NAVIGATE A SHIPI IT'S RIDICULOUS!" Luffy flops backward yelling, "I'M STARVING!" as "FLOP FLOP" sounds echo. Zoro lies flat and declares, "THOSE CAN WAIT!! AND WE NEED A COOK, AND A MUSICIAN, AND--"

High in the sky, a large bird flies past with repeated "FNAP FNAP" sounds. Luffy and Zoro stare upward. Luffy says, "IT LOOKS PRETTY BIG..." Zoro replies, "IT'S A BIRD..." Luffy suddenly stretches his arm skyward with a "FWIP" and shouts, "HUHI HOWI LET'S EAT IT!!" From the ship below, Luffy yells, "GUM-GUM..." and launches himself upward with "BANG BANG... ROCKET!!!" as Zoro watches. Luffy grabs the giant bird mid-flight, declaring, "LEAVE IT TO ME! I'LL CATCH IT!!" while the bird reacts with a massive "VREEEENG" and "WHAP!!" impact.

Luffy stands with a giant pink bird perched on his head, gripping its beak in frustration. The bird snaps, CHOMP, as Zoro stares in shock, WHAT!I and raises a hand to his head, muttering OKAY.... Suddenly a massive monstrous bird dives from the sky with a piercing KREEK, attacking a small boat. An old man rows desperately, yelling DARN YOU! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!I as the creature snatches at him. Luffy and Zoro watch the chaos unfold while the bird screeches YOU IDIOT!!! and the man struggles against the assault.

The old man rows hard through rough seas, spotting a distant ship and shouting SHIPWRECK SURVIVORSI AT A TIME LIKE THISI HUH!I AHOY! IT'S A SHIP! HEY, WAIT! Zoro reacts with alarm, WHAT'D HE SAY!I as the boat rocks violently. He grabs a rope, yelling I CAN'T STOP! JUST GRAB ON AND CLIMB IN! The survivors tumble into the water with a huge SPLASH SPLASH and SPLASH WAP, Luffy and the others flailing as they are pulled toward the approaching vessel.

Dripping wet on the deck, the survivors face a group of pirates. One demands WHAT KIND OF PERSON ARE YOU!! as another growls YOU WOULD HAVE LEFT US TO DIE!! YOU MADE IT! GOOD! A fierce swordsman with a pompadour and skull bandana steps forward, declaring WE'RE PIRATES OF BUGGY THE CLOWN! while swinging his blade. The crew shouts HEY! STOP THE SHIP! Zoro stares in surprise, HUH!I recognizing the threat.

The Buggy Pirates panic and bow, pleading WE'RE SORRY, MR. PIRATE HUNTER ZORO, SIR! WE DIDN'T REALIZE WHO YOU WERE!! HEE HEE HEE... Zoro glares as Nami appears, furious, shouting YOU JOKERS MADE ME LOSE MY FRIEND! KEEP ROWING. IF THERE'S ANY LAND NEARBY, HE'LL GET THERE. The crew sweats and argues among themselves: SHE WAS A REAL LOOKER, THOUGH! IT WAS ALL HER FAULT!!! IT WAS THAT WOMAN!! I'LL TELL YOU HOW!!! THANKS FOR REMINDING US! SO, HOW DID YOU PIRATES END UP SOAKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE OCEANI

On the open sea, a small pirate ship with a grinning skull flies its jolly roger. The crew laughs wildly as one pirate boasts, "WE HAD JUST FINISHED RAIDING A MERCHANT SHIP..." while another cheers, "THIS IS A PRETTY GOOD HAUL!" and the rest echo "HAR HAR HAR HAR!!" A crewman suddenly spots something and shouts, "A BOAT!" His comrade wonders, "MAYBE CAPTAIN BUGGY WILL GIVE US A REWARD!" Another adds, "NOT A BAD, FOR A SMALL SHIP!" In the distance, a lone rowboat drifts with a figure slumped inside. The pirates stare and exclaim, "THERE'S A BODY IN IT." The motionless figure is an orange-haired girl lying face-down in the boat.

The orange-haired girl opens her eyes and thinks, "...THERE CAN'T BE ANYONE HERE IN THE VAST SEA... OH... I'M SEEING THINGS..." The pirates lean over the railing, one yelling, "WHAT'S WRONG, GIRLI HAR HAR HAR! ARE YOU DEADI" Another calls, "HEY... A GIRL!" She sits up in their boat and pleads, "I'M LOST AT SEA! AND MAYBE A PIECE OF BREADI...BUT COULD YOU SPARE A LITTLE WATERI I DON'T KNOW WHO YOU ARE..." The crew reacts with surprise. She then eyes their open treasure chest and says, "BUT FIRST LET'S JUST TAKE A PEEK IN THAT TREASURE CHEST!" The pirates reply, "SURE, WE'LL HELP YOU..." while she adds, "BUT PLEASE... HELP ME. IF YOU WANT GOLD, TAKE IT..."

The pirates urge, "AFTER ALL, WE'RE SAVING YOUR LIFE!" and "PATIENCE LITTLE LADY! FIRST, WE GOTTA SEE YOUR TREASURE!" while offering, "GO AHEAD, WHATEVER YOU WANT..." The girl smiles brightly and declares, "IT'S ALL YOURS!" and "TAKE THE WHOLE SHIP!" with a cheerful "HEE HEE". She leaps into action as the crew opens the chest and discovers it empty, shouting in shock, "HEY! THIS CHEST IS EMPTY!!!" From the water she calls back, "HEY!! SHE'S LEAVING WITH OUR SHIP... AND OUR TREASURE!!" as the Buggy Pirates realize they have been robbed.

Nami stands on the stolen boat and warns, "SMALL VESSELS SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONS AGAINST CAPSIZING. THERE'S A SQUALL LINE HEADING THIS WAY... THAT MEANS A COLD FRONT, FOLKS... WITH A STRONG LIKELIHOOD OF VIOLENT SHOWERS..." Dark clouds gather as she spots the storm and thinks, "BINGO!" The Buggy Pirates' ship is suddenly battered by massive waves; the crew screams "ARRGH!!!" and "KRAKO!!!!" while one yells, "WE'LL GET YOU FOR THIS!" and "S-SHE TRICKED US!!!" Nami waves goodbye from her departing vessel, saying, "SO LONG! AND THANKS FOR THE TREASURE!" as the pirates' ship is left behind in the raging sea.

On a small boat at sea, two crew members discuss a missing orange-haired thief. One says, "AMAZING. SHE USED THE WEATHER TO HER OWN ADVANTAGE, SHE MUST REALLY KNOW THE SEAS..." Another adds, "SHE'D MAKE A GREAT NAVIGATOR..." A third voice complains, "JUST AWFUL, AIN'T IT!I...AND THAT'S THE WHOLE SAD STORY!" Below deck on another vessel, the pirates argue. One asks, "WHO'S THIS BUGGY GUY ANYWAYI" Another worries, "IF WE RETURN EMPTY-HANDED, BUGGY WILL BE FURIOUS!" A third suggests, "WHAT'LL WE DO ABOUT THE TREASURE WE LOSTI" The last snaps, "WE'LL THINK SHE'LL MAKE A GREAT CORPSE!" In a close panel, a short-haired swordsman questions, "...THE FRUIT OF THE DEVILI" A fierce pirate with a skull hat glares and declares, "HAVEN'T YOU HEARD OF BUGGY THE CLOWNI HE ATE THE FRUIT OF THE DEVIL! ONLY THE MOST FEROCIOUS PIRATE IN THESE PARTS!"

His crewmates panic: "IF WE DON'T GET THAT MAP BACK, WE'RE DEAD!" and "I DON'T WANT TO BE KILLED BY ONE OF THE CAPTAIN'S CANNON-BALLS!" A skeleton-like figure plummets from above as someone orders, "SHOOT IT DOWN WITH THE CANNON!" and another replies, "AYE AYE, SIR!"

Nami dashes through the streets, narrowly avoiding cannon fire and debris as explosions rock the town with massive "YABBA" and "BOOM" effects. Pirates scatter in panic. Two crew members stare upward in shock: "HE FELL FROM THE SKY!!!" and "IT'S A KID!" Nami looks back with wide eyes, exclaiming, "WHAT!I" A boy plummets from the sky yelling "AAAAH!" and "EEYAA!" while cannonballs continue to rain down. Nami ducks and cries out, "OUCH!" and "WHO'S SHOOTING CANNON-BALLS AT ME!I" as more blasts erupt around her with "FSS" sounds.

Luffy stands triumphantly in the street after the explosion, shouting "I'M ALIVE!" while a voice exclaims "PHEW! HE'S NOT HURT!!!" Nami sits on the ground nearby, watching in relief.
