The Riku Clan

In the basement of the colosseum, massive debris and garbage rain down violently. A huge man with a topknot and cross-shaped scars on his chest shouts in pain, "GYAAHH! THEY KEEP FALLING, ONE AFTER THE OTHER...!!!" Nearby, another giant figure with a skull-adorned outfit yells, "AH...!!! GRAMPS!! BIG BRO, TOO!!!" A third muscular man with a star tattoo coughs heavily amid the falling rubble, "UHH, SHIT *COUGH COUGH*!! WHAT THE HELL IS THIS!!I A MOUNTAIN OF GARBAGE AND TOYS!!I" Someone warns, "YOU SHOULD MOVE FROM THERE. OTHERS WILL BE FALLING."

The armored former gladiator Ricky clutches his head in disbelief, "YER... I MEAN... YOU ARE...!!!" Tank Lepanto roars, "IF I'M WRONG... THEN PLEASE FORGIVE ME, BUT...!!!" Ricky adds, "SUCH A MASSIVE SCRAPHEAP WOULD EXIST... TO THINK THAT IN THIS COUNTRY'S UNDERGROUND..." The group stares in shock at a battered figure rising from the debris. Multiple voices cry out, "KING RIKU!I" and "AREN'T YOU...!I KING RIKU..." One man exclaims, "KING RIKU!I DON'T BE STUPID... ISN'T HE DEAD...!I" Another notes, "SHIHAHA, DRESSROSA'S... LAST KING... I HEARD HE JUST WENT MAD."

King Riku, now revealed as an older man with a flowing cape, addresses the group while holding his helmet. He tells Tank Lepanto, "SQUAD CAPTAIN TANK. BUT YOU SHOULD NO LONGER CALL ME 'KING',...INDEED, I AM. I'M MERELY AN OLD MAN AT THIS POINT. AN OLD MAN WITH NAUGHT BUT A GRANDCHILD I COULD NOT SAVE... AND MY DEEP CRIMES." The crowd reacts with shock: "KING RIKU...!!! THANK GOODNESS YOU'RE ALIVE...!!!" and "IT'S KING RIKU!!! SO HE IS ALIVE AFTER ALL!!!" A caption box identifies him: FORMER KING OF DRESSROSA: RIKU DORDE III (REBECCA'S GRANDFATHER). Riku continues, "THE TRUTH IS, I AM NOW FAR TOO LONG... IT'S BEEN FAR TOO LONG!!!"

A scarred, fierce-faced man glares and declares, "YOU'RE PROTECTING VIOLA FOR ME, RIGHTI I WOULD NEVER DOUBT A MAN AS VIRTUOUS AS YOURSELF." Another voice answers, "IT MUST HAVE BEEN A PAINFUL DECISION!!" A grinning figure retorts, "NO, COMPARED TO YOURS, IT WAS NOTHING...!!" Below, the checkered-armored warrior points and shouts, "HEY, WHAT THE HELL!I SO YOU WERE KING RIKU ALL ALONG!!!" while a wounded man gasps, "...AHH. THE KING OF PRO-DENSE...!!" King Riku, crowned and bearded, roars with fury: "THE BALANCE BETWEEN THE SURROUNDING COUNTRIES WAS THROWN, AND THERE'S BEEN NOTHING BUT WAR! IT'S GOTTEN TO BE A REAL PAIN...!!!" He continues, "EVER SINCE YOU VANISHED..." The checkered warrior embraces him, exclaiming, "GLAD TO SEE YOU ALIVE!! THIS BRINGS BACK MEMORIES!! YOU AIDED MY COUNTRY DURING HARD TIMES ALL TOO OFTEN!!" as "OI, OI." and impact SFX "ドン!!" erupt.

Elizabello points accusingly, yelling, "HE KEEPS SELLING WEAPONS TO THESE WARRING NATIONS!! THERE'S SOMEONE WHO'S BEEN DRUMMING UP THE WARS FROM BEHIND THE SCENES, AND DOING QUITE WELL FOR HIMSELF AS A RESULT...!!!" A massive grinning figure looms as a voice states, "IN REGARDS TO THE WARS OF OUR FAIR KANOKUNI... HE'S BEEN PROVIDING WEAPONS TO OUR ENEMIES." Another speaker identifies, "HIYA HAYA IT'S THE BROKER, "JOKER"!! THAT'S DOFLAMINGO'S UNDERWORLD ALIAS, BUT WE DON'T KNOW WHERE THE WEAPONS ARE BEING MADE AND STORED." Elizabello explodes in rage: "KING RIKU! YOUR STRANGE ACTIONS LED TO DOFLAMINGO BECOMING KING... AND THANKS TO THAT, NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES ARE FACING UNTOLD HARDSHIP!!! SO OUR HAPPOU NAVY, UNDER ORDERS FROM THE KING OF KANOKUNI... HAS COME TO PUT A STOP TO THIS SECRET WEAPONS TRADE! THAT'S OUR TRUE PURPOSE HERE!!" with massive impact SFX "ドン!!".

Elizabello snarls, "SHUT YOUR MOUTH, DAGAMA!! BUT NOW THE NAME KING RIKU... IN OUR COUNTRY'S PAST, DRESSROSA WAS SURELY, A GREAT BENEFACTOR..." Dagama retorts, "YOU'RE RIGHT, ELIZABELLO-SAMA!!" A soldier shouts, "THOSE WHO KNOW NOTHING OF THE TRAGEDY OF THAT DAY WILL NOT SPEAK OF THE CHARACTER OF OUR KING!!!" while another adds, "THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW THE TRUTH OF THE INCIDENT 10 YEARS AGO..." King Riku's former soldiers react with shock: "I, AS WELL...!! KING RIKU!!" "ME TOO." "KING RIKU, I TOO... WAS A SOLDIER IN YOUR ARMY." "TANKI! IT'S FINE, AT THIS POINT..." King Riku stares in disbelief, hand raised, as "!I" and motion lines appear. Scattered SFX like "ファラ..." and "チッチッチ...!!" punctuate the tense standoff.

Panic erupts as toys suddenly animate and attack. A voice screams, "UWAHH!! WHAT THE!!I THE TOYS ARE MOVING!! I THOUGHT THEY WERE ALL DEAD AND BROKEN!!I" Soldiers and civilians flee amid flying debris and impact SFX "ギャッ", "ウワッ", "ドン". A massive toy soldier looms over the chaos. In the lower panels King Riku demands, "WHAT'S GOING ON HERE...!I" A Dressrosa soldier replies, "I THOUGHT THIS KING RIKU WAS HATED BY HIS COUNTRYMEN... THESE FORMER SOLDIERS OF DRESSROSA... EVEN SOME OF THE TOYS ARE BRAWLING DOWN..." while another mutters, "..." amid the spreading melee of living toys and confused fighters.

In the dim underground, a spiky-haired man with a fierce glare declares, "THE BASEMENT IS BOUND TO HOLD OTHER SECRETS." An underling replies, "UNDER-STOOD. CONTINUE YOUR INVESTIGATION." With as large a pitfall as this... A massive figure suddenly drops from above, crashing down with a heavy "どっ!!" and "ぐ" impact. The bearded giant reels back in shock, "NUHH!I" while a long-haired man flinches, "!I" A small warrior labeled "12" is yanked violently upward by the hair. From the side, someone yells "SAI!!" The small fighter spins helplessly through the air amid swirling debris and motion lines, crying "OWAHHHH!!!" A panicked voice shouts, "BIG BRO!" Another figure stares in horror, "OHH!I WHA-WHA-WHAT'S GOING ON NOW!!!I"

A grotesque fish-man-like figure grins widely, drooling as it says, "BEHEHE, RIGHT, RIGHT. IT'S OVER, SO NO NEED TO WORRY ANYMORE." It issues commands to nearby subordinates: "AND HEAD TO THE FACTORY AND THE PORT!!" "YOU FIGHTERS ARE ALL 'POWER' TYPES. FOLLOW THOSE RULES AND DON'T FORGET THEM." "JUST GO STRAIGHT AND EXIT THROUGH THAT DOOR..." "'OBEY ALL ORDERS FROM THE FAMILY'." "'CAUSE HUMANS NO HARM'." A small figure with a curly tail stands before a large ornate door marked with crosses and debris, thinking in shock, "HAS HAPPENED TO ME!!I" "JUST WHAT..." A skull-faced character with wings panics, "WHAT NOW!I" "WORK HARD, NOW!!" "I CAN'T DISOBEY HIS ORDERS!!" "I CAN'T CONTROL MY OWN BODY!!"

Inside the Colosseum prisoner gladiator lodging, a helmeted warrior grips the bars and shouts, "GO...!!! REBECCA!!!" A voice encourages from behind, "OI!! NEVERMIND CABBAGE FOR NOW, REBECCA! SHOW 'EM HOW IT'S DONE!!" An elderly bearded man with wide eyes mutters, "BUT WAIT. I THOUGHT THIS COUNTRY LOOKED LIKE A LOT OF FUN, AND EVERYONE SEEMED HAPPY, BUT...!!" "LOOKING AT YOU GUYS... THAT'S NOT REALLY TRUE, HUH!!" A cloaked figure nearby adds, "I'M GONNA FIND A CLOSER PLACE TO CHEER FROM!" Another comments, "HMM!!I NOW THAT I THINK ABOUT IT, IT'S KIND OF HARD TO SEE FROM HERE!!" A prisoner with a skull emblem on the wall explains, "THE LOSERS WHO STRAY FROM THE SYSTEM ARE TREATED LIKE GARBAGE." "AND REBELLIOUS LOSERS...!! JUST LIKE WITH THE WORLD GOVERNMENT, REALLY..." "DOF LAMINGO HAS SPLIT US INTO SUBSERVIENT WINNERS..." "WHAT YOU SAW WAS THE BRIGHT AND SHINING WORLD OF THE 'WINNERS'," "AND IF GARBAGE REMAINS HIDDEN IN THE SHADOWS... THEN THE COUNTRY RETAINS ITS IMAGE."

The helmeted warrior stares intensely, thinking, "THE PLACE WHERE I GREW UP... SOUNDS A LOT LIKE..." A radiant panel declares, "THE GARBAGE IS HERE." He clenches his fist, "LET'S GO TREASURE-HUNTING!!" In the corridor, he warns, "YOU SHOULD BE CAREFUL AS WELL..." A bandaged man replies, "...AND WE FEEL THAT THERE'S AN EVEN GREATER DARKNESS AT PLAY..." "ONCE YOU OPEN YOUR EYES, YOU'LL START TO BE ILL AT EASE HERE..." The warrior reacts with shock, "EHH!!I" "HMMI" A sudden "CLACK!" echoes as a massive weapon strikes near the door. A monstrous figure bursts forth with a roar, "AHHHHHH-HHHHHHH!!" while impact sounds "とばっ!!" and "どっ!!" fill the air. The warrior and others brace as debris flies.

In the vast flower fields of Dressrosa, the Tontatta tribe's ancient story begins. "OUR TONTATTA TRIBE... WITHOUT A COUNTRY OF ITS OWN, SET OUT TO SEA IN SEARCH OF RESOURCES. THIS IS A TALE OF LONG AGO..." A sign reads "FLOWER FIELDS: RIKU ROYAL FIGHTERS' REBELLION HQ." The old Tontatta king with sunglasses and crown explains, "BUT THEN, THE KING OF THE NEIGHBORING LAND, DRESSROSA..." Small Tontatta figures react in panic, "WAHH!! I FOUND A DWARF!!" He continues, "BUT THEY WERE OFTEN DISCOVERED BY BIG HUMANS AND WERE ON THE VERGE OF EXTINCTION..." The tale reaches the pact: "THAT ARRANGEMENT CONTINUED UNTIL 900 YEARS AGO!! THE NAME OF THAT KING WAS 'DON-QUIXOTE'. SUGGESTED A PACT THAT WOULD GRANT US RESOURCES AND SAFETY. IN EXCHANGE FOR 'A BIT OF LABOR'..." The king adds, "UP UNTIL THE WORST TIME OF THE TONTATTA TRIBE'S HISTORY."

The Tontatta elder recounts the cruelty: "THEY WERE TRULY DEMONS!!! UNBEKNOWNST TO ALL, THEY FORCED THE TONTATTA TO LABOR DEEP UNDERGROUND... WHILE THE BIG HUMANS ON THE SURFACE LIVED IN LUXURY OFF THE WEALTH WE PRODUCED. THEN CAME 'THE AGE OF SLAVERY'." Silhouettes show the suffering. "IN WHAT TEXTS REMAIN FROM THAT TIME ARE THE DETAILS OF THE CRUELTY OF THAT ROYAL FAMILY." The crowd erupts, "KING RIKU!!!" The narration states, "800 YEARS AGO...!! A NEW KING OF DRESSROSA WAS BORN. THEN, WHAT OCCURRED IN THE VOID CENTURY IS UNKNOWN, BUT..." The elder continues, "WHAT'S MORE, THE COURSE THAT THE NEW KING DECIDED ON... WAS 'ATONEMENT'. HE WEPT... AND THEY SAY THAT HE MADE THE MOST SINCERE APOLOGY. THAT THE DWARVES HAD ENDURED FOR CENTURIES, UNDERGROUND... WHEN KING RIKU CAME TO KNOW OF THE UNIMAGINABLE LABOR..."

Gancho declares, "THAT IT WAS SIMPLY THE WORK OF 'FAIRIES'... THUS, INCREDIBLY... THE 'LEGEND OF THE FAIRIES' TOOK ROOT IN THIS COUNTRY...!! HE DECLARED THAT THE DWARVES COULD TAKE ALL THEY NEEDED TO LIVE, WITH NO NEED TO LABOR. AND THE KING PACIFIED THE CITIZENS BY TELLING THEM..." A flashback shows the kind Riku clan ruling. "IT WASN'T THE RICHEST COUNTRY, BUT... IT BECAME A SPLENDID ONE, FILLED WITH SMILES. WHILE RULED OVER BY THE KINDLY RIKU CLAN... THIS COUNTRY SPARED NO EXPENSE IN THE AID OF NEIGHBORING LANDS." The scene shifts to a peaceful countryside where "WHERE BEAUTIFUL FLOWERS BLOOMED THROUGHOUT... UNNOTICED, OUR ANCESTORS, IN PRAISE OF THE KIND-HEARTED RIKU KING... TURNED THE LAND INTO A VERDANT PARADISE."

The story turns dark again. "BUT THEN, AFTER THE PASSING OF 900 YEARS... THE DESCENDANT OF THE DONQUIXOTE LINE, DOFLAMINGO, MADE HIS RETURN... FOR 800 YEARS, SUCH HAS BEEN THE TIES BETWEEN OUR TONTATTA KINGDOM... AND GENERATION AFTER GENERATION OF THE RIKU ROYAL FAMILY...!!" Gancho roars, "AND ALREADY, STARTING WITH MY DAUGHTER, MANSHELLY... 500 OF OUR TRIBESMEN HAVE FALLEN TO HIS EVIL WAYS!!! AND UNBELIEVABLY, HE INTENDS TO REPEAT... THAT TRULY EVIL HISTORY OF SO LONG AGO!!!" The Tontatta warriors rally, "INDEED. FOR BOTH DRESSROSA AND THE TONTATTA, THE DONQUIXOTE HOMECOMING... HAS BROUGHT NOTHING BUT WOE!! THAT'S RIGHT!! TODAY WE FIGHT!!! WE WON'T LET HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF!!!" They charge forward shouting "UOHHHHH!"

The scene erupts with Usopp shouting in outrage amid a chaotic flashback. "OHHHH!! THAT RIKU KING SURE WAS A GREAT GUY, BEING SO KIND TO A BUNCH OF LITTLE BUG PEOPLE." The toy soldier in the top hat roars back, "WHO ARE YOU CALLING BUGS!!!" Usopp continues yelling "USSO-LAND!! USSO-LAND!!" while the toy soldier retorts, "UOHHH, JUST AS EXPECTED...!!!" and "THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING, TOO!!!" In the next panels the toy soldier growls, "THAT'S WHAT I WAS THINKING, TOO!!!" and "OHHH, USSO-LAND!!" The toy soldier explains, "IT SEEMS AS THOUGH THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY DESPISE KING RIKU..." and notes that the female gladiator in the colosseum "WAS BEING BOOED AND CALLED 'THE GRANDDAUGHTER OF KING RIKU'." Usopp replies, "I MEAN IT IN A GOOD WAY... OH, WELL THANKS, THEN!!" The toy soldier then recounts the past: "AT THAT TIME, DOFLAMINGO ATTEMPTED TO ERADICATE THE RIKU CLAN... BUT I TOOK UNDER MY WING REBECCA, WHO SHARES THE ROYAL BLOOD OF KING RIKU." He adds, "BUT THE CITIZENS DON'T KNOW THE TRUTH BEHIND IT...!!!" and "TO THE BITTER END, THE KING TRIED TO PROTECT THE COUNTRY." The final panel shows the toy soldier stating, "TEN YEARS AGO... KING RIKU LOST THE TRUST OF THE PEOPLE... IN AN INCIDENT THAT OCCURRED ONE AWFUL NIGHT."

The toy soldier continues his story in tight panels. "I COULDN'T PROTECT REBECCA'S MOTHER." He adds, "JUST WHO ARE YOU..." and "IF IT MEANS PROTECTING KING RIKU'S HONOR AND REBECCA'S LIFE..." A young Rebecca cries out in the background. The toy soldier declares, "THERE IS NOT A SINGLE MOMENT WHEN I FORGET THAT DAY!!!" and "I DON'T CARE WHEN OR WHERE I DIE!! I'M STAKING IT ALL ON THIS FIGHT!!!" He explains his transformation into a toy: "THAT CHILD MAY NOT REMEMBER ME... GIVEN MY TRANSFORMATION INTO A TOY..." The scene shifts to a wide panel where the toy soldier stands beside Rebecca in the colosseum stands. A massive speech bubble declares, "REBECCA'S FATHER." The toy soldier finishes, "BUT I AM..." Rebecca reacts with shock, tears visible, as the page ends on the dramatic reveal.
