The chapter opens with the note that Zoro gets rid of the problems in one fell swoop, and the title reads "CHAPTER 779: THE LAST FIGHT." Fujitora asks Zoro whether his sword has ever broken. Zoro answers that it has happened more times than he can count, but that Zoro has never broken one of his own swords; if Mihawk's blade had been clad in Haki, it would not have broken either. A translation note explains that the class of Mihawk's sword literally means "black sword." Zoro remembers Mihawk telling him to consider every nick in a blade a blemish on his pride, that all swords shall be Kokutou, and that until Zoro masters this, Mihawk forbids him from touching alcohol.

Behind the former royal plateau, Fujitora asks whether anyone is wounded. A subordinate answers no, because Admiral Issho managed to keep the plateau afloat, not a single person was hurt, and everyone around the town center has already been evacuated. At Port Town Acacia, citizens stare at the plateau where the palace was located and shout that Lord Pica has been beaten. They ask whether the top executive was really defeated and whether the huge stone statue was split in two.

The people marvel at Elizabello's power, saying he still did not take part in the tournament and must be Garp's grandson's underling. King Riku decides that since he was saved in the end, he will let the matter slide. The Smile Factory suddenly explodes, and people inside cry out, "What on earth just happened?! The factory just exploded!" The explosion marks the destruction of the factory that had produced the source of Dressrosa's suffering.

The liberated workers and dwarves cheer as the Smile Factory is blown to bits. One shouts, "Blast it to bits! The factory that made us suffer for so long!" Another says they are never going to be tricked and enslaved again. A Donquixote supporter says Pica just got his ass kicked and the factory has been blown to bits, but he still clings to hope that their defeated will rise again and that the factory will be reborn. The people answer with hope of their own, saying they have Mansherry on their side.

At Level 4 in front of the palace, the Sunflower Fields, Leo calls out to Robinland and Lady Rebecca to see if they are okay. Leo realizes Kyros is not their captain after all, and praises him as a valiant figure who looks exactly like the statue. Kyros says he may just be a couple steps short, but confirms that he saved the princess. Mansherry arrives and sees Kyros's horrible wounds, begging, "Please, let me heal you!" Kyros recognizes her as Princess Mansherry and says he has heard about her power and its supposed limit, telling her she does not need to use it on him.

Mansherry protests that Kyros's entire body is dripping blood. Kyros answers that he is fine and still conscious, and more importantly he is glad Mansherry is okay, because her survival must have been hell. He asks her to save her happiness for when the stifling Birdcage disappears and says that if she wants to use her power, there are countless people across the country who need it more than he does. He looks over Dressrosa, saying they have destroyed the factory and their battle now proceeds to its moment of truth: whether the country can be returned to King Riku's hands, or fall into darkness and despair again. The hopes of Dressrosa now rest with Luffyland and Lawland.

Mansherry asks, "Pirates?" while Rebecca thinks of Lucy, and Robin thinks of Luffy and Traffy-kun. Leo says those two are their mainstay. The scene shifts to the top level of the palace, below the palace inside Rampart Tower, where Koala contacts Sabo. She says things look pretty bad and asks if he can make it there from his location. Sabo answers that he just made it inside Rampart Tower, but Koala says he is too far. Sabo says he is helping the last prisoners out of the Colosseum, showing that he is still working elsewhere while the final fight unfolds above.

Koala tells Sabo that Luffy will be in harm's way if he has to deal with the situation alone, but Sabo says he will be right there. He adds that there is not much Koala can deal with by herself anyway, making her snap, "Geez!" Back at the former royal plateau, Zoro says he is fine and does not even have a scratch, while the people swarm him with thanks, crying that his display saved their lives right before their eyes. Zoro tells all of them to wait a second as they crowd around him.

Zoro tells the celebrating people to save their happiness for when the Birdcage disappears, because the fact that it still stands proves the man behind it is still standing. According to Lady Viola, most of the enemy's strength has already fallen and only three big players remain, but Viola corrects herself: "No... two. Just now... another..." The page cuts to the royal palace first floor, where someone declares that a victor has been decided, showing that another fight has just ended even as the larger threat remains.

On the royal palace first floor, Luffy shouts, "Stop it, Bellamy!" Bellamy is covered in wounds and coughing, but continues attacking. Luffy warns him that he will not make it out alive, yet Bellamy keeps fighting through the pain. The page shows Bellamy's stubborn final stand in the corridor, with Luffy forced to face a man he does not want to hurt while the battle's last major opponents narrow down.

Bellamy says that even if he dies, if he can take Luffy with him, he stands a chance of actually being remembered by Doflamingo. Luffy asks what the point is in risking his life for a piece of scum like that. Bellamy answers, "That's for me to decide!" and continues his attack. Luffy, bruised and exhausted, keeps trying to talk him down, but Bellamy chooses the meaning of his own fight even while Luffy calls it pointless.

Doflamingo watches and asks whether Luffy thinks Bellamy is unaware of the facts: that Doflamingo said he would "set Bellamy free," but also that Luffy is right there killing himself trying to beat Doflamingo. Doflamingo laughs that if he can only get Bellamy to acknowledge him in death, he respects that, and asks, "What of it?" Bellamy, bleeding and grinning, accepts the twisted logic, even as Luffy realizes Bellamy knows full well what Doflamingo is doing.

Luffy calls Bellamy a liar and says it is not as if this is the only way. He shouts, "You're a man, aren't you!? If you know what that word means, shut your mouth and fight!" Bellamy answers that he wanted this and that even if it means letting the only man he ever respected lead him to his grave, he will have it. He tells Luffy that if Luffy has no intention of taking him up on his fight, he will kill Luffy where he stands. Bellamy thanks Luffy for calling him a friend and says farewell, while Luffy raises his fists and Bellamy screams, "Die!"

Luffy strikes Bellamy down while Bellamy thanks him. Luffy says he knows he picked the wrong guy to look up to, and knows his own pitifulness too. Bellamy thinks that fools have their own foolish way of doing things. Doflamingo, watching from above, says Law is in for a rude awakening and tells him to bring his pitiful self up there; when Law sees Luffy's lifeless corpse, Doflamingo wants to know his reaction. The chapter ends with "ONE PIECE Ch. 779 END" and a note that the series will be on hiatus next issue, planning to resume with issue 17.
